Thanks rowanmac - but friends ruined it already by saying it's a unisex name. DH won't consider anything but totally masculine (and unique) for his son.

WOW! Only ONE scan??? That's crazy!
Can a labour ward really be closed? I thought they would have to be 24 hour as babies can arrive at any time, right?

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/09/2008 20:04

Sambrads - mw should be able to tell if baby is breech by feeling, although you'd probably know yourself from the direction of the kicks (I could tell when ds was), so I don't think that that alone is a good reason for a scan. Very disappointing not to get one if you had been expecting it though.

Labour wards don't close star (don't know about MLUs) - it was just a dream, so don't go giving yourself nightmares about anything else!

for ear infection star. I go through phases of getting loads of them, and they are horrid. There are antibiotics that you can safely take during pregnancy if you think you need them. One thing that you should be aware of which the docs won't tell you though, is that sometimes taking them can cause minor problems with the baby's teeth as an infant.

I had a growth scan today. They estimated the current weight at 5lbs 6oz, but wouldn't project a birth weight from that. All the measurements were pretty much exactly on the 50th centile line (head marginally above). No more scans scheduled for me now.

Better start thinking of a non-contentious thread title then ladies .

I am wondering if you go full term if your tummy muscles have come apart???? I am gong to see consultant next week re if placenta moved and birth options after 3rd degree tear but am now wondering about whether if going full term is going to damage my tummy muslces more, surely it means more stretching. MW said its a prob if you can fit a fist in them. I dont really want them to come apart but if I had a c-sect they would cut through them anyway wouldn't they??? I know its lower than your actual tummy where they cut but its the same princable surely cutting through everything. I am soooo confuessed as really dont know how to have this baby. I dont want to tear again, I dont want my tummy muscles ripping again and I am not sure I would handle c-sect with a 3yr DD and me being an obsessive tidier!!! Please can the fairies deliver this for me???!!!!!

csws How about "due after sept thread"!!! only joking (and no offense made to anyone from sept thread reading this!!, just a joke)!!

star6 · 01/09/2008 20:14

I wouldn't take antibiotics while pg. I just take no risks whatsoever... I know I know paranoid, but I'd rather no risk than little risk of anything. Thanks, though - good to know if it gets too unbearable that there is relief available.

5lbs 6oz sounds really good, right?? DH was 5lbs 7oz at birth and I was 6lbs. Seems quite normal to have a 7-8lb baby these days, though from what I've read in birth announcements

hedgepig · 01/09/2008 20:19

how C* Sambrads. Try and focus on the "everything is OK" part of the conversation .
LOZZA the same for scans here in cambs (except no nucals on the NHS even at over 40). I have another scan at 36 weeks to check fluid levels since my amniotic fluid had disappeared by 40 weeks in my last pg.
DS goes back to school tomorrow so I an furiously labeling his new uniform (why didn't I start this earlier) and it's my last week of work thank heavens I am so tired. Rosebury a lie in to 10:30 sounds great I can't wait .

bethoo · 01/09/2008 20:45

CSWS how about 'The real final countdown'' or you could put sept permitting in brackets if you want a real fight on our hands!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/09/2008 20:53

Now now bethoo .
I'm not sure that it will be the final countdown though, especially for those not due at the beginning of the month. There tends to be a lot more chat as the births loom ever closer and people start maternity leave and have more time on their hands.

twinklytoes · 01/09/2008 20:57

hedgepig - spent the morning labelling everything, even though dd1 going back in her summer uniform. can't face the prospect of doing all the winter stuff during half term with a 2week old.

got 34wk apt with mw tomorrow, half hour apt so can do bloods.

how about "the only way is out...." ???

bethoo · 01/09/2008 20:58

how about ''it is only a matter of weeks''?

hedgepig · 01/09/2008 21:05

How about "here we go! here we go! here we go!" Like in the football chant.
CSWS - had a little giggle at your comments about mws should be able to feel which way up a baby is, after my undiagnosed breech with DS . But you are right about the movements, with DS I didn't have kicks at all just wriggles and squirms which should have given the game away but I was in 1st time mum la la la mode then so though that was normal. Also it was before I discovered mumsnet so I didn't know about this amazing information resource.

sambrads · 01/09/2008 21:41

i think the fact that i am so annoyed is that it is standard practise to get a scan done at 35/36 weeks in northern ireland.

they normally check growth fluid and babies weight .just feel a bit gutted

how about " bring on the bundles of joy"

star6 · 01/09/2008 21:57

Sweet sambrads. I like that one a lot the thread title.
Go back there and tell them you want your scan!!

ronshar · 01/09/2008 22:19

How about Bring on the stiches?.

35 weeks and all is well. I feel like I have dropped a bit so hopefully baby not floating quite so freely now.

My DH took nearly 3 months to want any bedroom action after DD1. Terrified him, the whole birth etc. Not too bad after DD2 as home birth much more gentle for him.

1sttimer80 · 01/09/2008 22:33

hey all, gosh you guys are really chatty!!! I;m on maternity leave but jugglign between cooking for DH (to make up for all the time she's had to cobble dinenr togetehr because I was too sick to) and getting the MOt done, the car serviced and the gasman wanting to chnage the meter ?!).

I'm a little worried about baby being breech. I'm 35 weeks and although I feel kicks I can;t really pinpoint where they are. baby tends to move from right to left as my stomach always looks a little lopsided Sometimes, and especially int he evening, I feel a really heavy weight on my pelvis, which I reckon is a good sign????

I do have another scan next week to check on the baby's kidneys and how much fluid is there, so hopefully they'll be able to check on that. Also got peadicitrician appointment on friday. I really hope everything is ok. As birth time comes closer I'm getting more and more anxious!

DH is being driven up the wall at the moment, doesn't help but I have almost no sex drive left. Even though I;m on maternity leave by the time I get to bed all I want to do is sleep! poor thing, I do feel sorry for him though!

Anyway, about the next thread, bring it on! How exciting is it that we're already on the next thread!

sambrads · 02/09/2008 08:56

1sttimer i to feel kicks everywere although i do feel alot of them at the top of my bump. i have a very heavy feeling in my bits for the last few weeks and the midwife said that was agood sign as it shows that the baby is coming down nicely

me and dh seem to be arguing an awful lot lately we have had a stressful week of us both being sick then ds being in hospital.

this morning before he went to work he said "i know your pregnant but you dont realise what i have to put up with your moody and i am always walking on egg shells "

it does annoy me as dh has witnessed what labour is really like and now i am really feeling the pressure of what i have to go through again of course i am going to be moody i am 36 weeks pregnant !!!!!

07mumstheword · 02/09/2008 09:22

Sambrads My DH says the same but then I'm moody anyway so it's nothing new It's the tiredness I struggle with by the time he comes home and tea is on the table (see I am a dutyful wife) I am shattered and he thinks I'm miserable. I've tried explaining it's not because he has come home I'm actually glad he's home to help with DD but I know he finds it hard to accept I'm just tired and actually quite happy underneath it all.
Still there'll be more tiredness to come in a few weeks

Morning everyone else hope you're all well.

Sallypuss · 02/09/2008 09:31

Morning all

Hope everyone's well.

Lozza must be something in the psyche of the pregnant commuter - I too am planning to work until 37 weeks (4 more weeks to go). I was going to work until 38 but saw sense when my boss started to look ill at the prospect. Have to say the commute's not been too bad (all 1.5 hours of it) as generally those nice people on the central line are usually shamed into giving up their seat and we haven't had much of a summer. Am getting more tired though now and starting to feel a little weary of an evening (and of a morning if I don't get a decent night's sleep!)

bethoo · 02/09/2008 09:47

morning, i find that going to bed before 10 is doing wonders for my energy levels.
pissed off with my boss as turns out he was whinging about me being in late this morning though i was not in the end as xdp picked up my urine sample this mornign to drop off at drs, he was going on about who was going to cover me now that i have got to this stage etc and who will do the work now i am off on maternity leave! dont officially finish for maternity until bloody due date! only taking leave as lsot loads last year and did not get it paid so determined not to lose out, i am entitled to it after all! was too nice before sacrificing my leave so others could take theirs. ungrateful b$%$^%!
also yesterday went to order my buggy but no release date but should be sometime this month so fingers crossed will get it before baby is born!

does anyone know that if baby is engaged now (35 weeks) it could mean the baby will come before due date? 5 weeks is a long time stuck in the pelvis surely?

Sallypuss I am also a Central line commuter but I don't have to be on there for as long as you by the sounds of it. Generally I am getting a seat at the moment, looking pretty large now so that helps, but sometimes I envoke the amazing instant sleep when I step onto the carriage. All those men in the preggers seat hving to suddenly close their eyes. I become pretty brave in asking for a seat if one is not forthcoming but even I cannot wake someone up for a seat

I think I have dropped quite a bit in the last week or so. Have an antenatal appt this afternoon so hopefully I will find out more. My back and pelvis have also been really sore in the last few days so I think the baby may be engaged.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 02/09/2008 12:15

bloody hell tons to catch up on....can't believe the difference in some areas between how many scans you get, I thought everyone got the bog standard 12 weeks and 20 weeks unless needed growth scans or whatever

i'm working til 36+3 (3.5 weeks to go!), mum thinks I'm mental and should finish immedaiately but all I do is sit on my arse accruing holiday pay and London commute ain't too bad for me on the train from streatham to victoria - especially as I've been offered a seat pretty much every day since 15 weeks...

have to say I find men are generally way more forthcoming about offering seats up than women, also I kinda feel like I should just ask for it, because to be fair lots of commuters do their journey heads down and don't neccessarily see you. maybe I'm just being naive about human nature! get more angry at women who blatantly stare at my bump and don't offer their seat up

I wanna be engaged! got antenatal appt with doctor next week then another with midwife the following week cos she's organised my 36 week appt to be a week early to book me for a homebirth, yay!!!

ajm200 · 02/09/2008 13:24

Wow, everyone's been busy posting on here over the last few days.

Congrat to those of you on maternity leave and if your DCs have gone back to school already. It's great isn't it. I wish I could get leave from being a full-time mum (only kidding!)

Baby has dropped over the past few days, can get two flat hands sideways between my bra line and my bump. It starts just above where my waist once was.. guess that explains all the BHs I've had.

Made a complete idiot of myself yesterday.. picked up a new car and had to trade in my beloved cabrio. When it came to driving away, I burst into tears and had to get hubby to drive. Stupid pregnancy hormones.. felt like a right idiot..

Actually told someone this am that baby is due next month OMG! It's gonna be too soon if I don't get myself organised.

bethoo · 02/09/2008 13:37

ajm my lo is engaged too though i had not noticed as bump has not changed! probably because i am short! saw your other thread ref labour after engagement as i am curious too. i guess she will be stuck in my pelvis for the next 5 weeks! funny as i read on the net that usually your first engages weeks before birth but then subsequent babies do not engage til labour! that does not seem to be the case if going by alot of mn experiences. was hoping to have this baby at 39 weeks, never mind!

ajm200 · 02/09/2008 13:42

Bethoo, I'm in no rush to have this LO but I do need to calm my DH down a bit. I think he's been talking to my MIL who has got him convinced that this baby is going to arrive anytime now. He's gone from calm and ok to an absolute nightmare...

bethoo · 02/09/2008 13:46

bless, my xdp keeps forgetting when ours is due and asks daily the due date! shows that even now he doesnt actually listen to anything i bloody say! in fact i doubt i will even tell him when i go into labour! he probably would not listen then call several days later asking the due date whilst i am sat there nursing our dd!
