moodywren · 31/07/2008 20:45

Had 4d scan on Tues he looks just like my youngest son and has his father's nose.

Have added some scan photos to my profile if anyone wants to look

bethoo · 31/07/2008 20:51

oh moody he is gorgeous and i am so bloody of you! also is that your pup? how cute too

i feel movement on both sides so am sure that she is lying sideways!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 31/07/2008 20:53

Those pictures are fantastic Moodywren - you will set me off again!

moodywren · 31/07/2008 20:59

The pups are from a litter my bitch had in feb been gone to their new homes a while now. Was hoping for more puppies soon but don't think she fell pregnant this time.

Couldn't afford the scan really but it was worth every penny. The place we went was a private house in the country and we were there 2 hours, 1/2 hr scanning then a walk around the garden and a drink and then another 1/2hr scan. Loads of photos plus cd rom and dvd, was only supposed to get 4 pics but the guy got a bit carried away and we got about 20 photos, and 68 on cd

tedmundo · 31/07/2008 21:02

Hello all - I just HAD to post on the twinkly, shiny new thread.

12 weeks for us and counting... although DS was induced at 36 weeks so I have to be prepared for an early arrival.

DS was 5lbs 1oz so I have a stack of early baby stuff ready just in case history repeats itself. It was very odd for me when mums in my NCT group were giving birth to babes literally DOUBLE of my DS!

He is still tiny and a terrible eater (I think I may have bleated about this before as it is my one, constant worry with him) but we are now seeing a dietician at the children's hospital and make slow progress with him.

This baby is breech at present but I gather this is nothing to worry about yet. Just means I get booted in the bladder on a regular basis. Ouch.

I managed mixed feeding til about 10 weeks and then went fully to bottle. Really want to try harder this time - all being well I think it will help me being a bit more chilled this time round. I was a bit of a worrier with the first born and wanted to "see" how much he was drinking. To try to encourage myself to breastfeed longer I have been spending money on nursing bras and clothes.

On non-baby topics. CSWS - have a lovely birthday and enjoy the movie. I am hoping to see it next week! Bethoo - does dp not remember the wise old saying about listening at closed doors! A bit of the green eyed monster never hurts eh?! Jambers - parallel lives for us - we bought a cotbed for the 18 month old last night on ebay. We have made a tiny bit of progress in setting up his new room but nowhere near enough. DH assures me it is nothing to get stressed about...

tedmundo · 31/07/2008 21:15

moodywren - I "ahhhed" out loud when I saw the baby AND pup photos. It must have been a wonderful experience, you lucky thing.

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/07/2008 21:17

Lovely pics moody .

It's great to hear that so many of you are hoping to breastfeed for longer this time round. Mumsnet is great for breastfeeding support, so do post about it if you have problems, and remember that the first few weeks are the hardest, and if you can get through them then you get to start reaping the rewards .

tedmundo - should we know why you were induced at 36 weeks? Am v interested in early/on time induction stories at the moment, as bearing in mind that I may need to be this time.

Jambers - how are your building works doing? Again I can't remember who else was planning major works . We now have one velux in the loft room, and should get the second one finished tomorrow, and then the dormer over the following couple of days. Still a long way to go though, and the estimated completion date is well after the baby is due!

tedmundo · 31/07/2008 21:32

CSWS - I suffered from pre-eclampsia with DS so induced.

I truly hope for you that you can avoid it. But with GD they may decide to induce you do you think?

I am going to beg for an epidural if they induce me again. I went straight into hardcore contractions and had to cope only with a single dose of pethidine (never again) and gas and air (utterly useless).

They kept fobbing me off (as I now strongly suspect there were no anesthetist available for non-theatre work) until it was too late to have one. I just don't think they expected me to labour so fast. 10 hrs from the pessary being inserted to having ds in my arms.

I am watching Clueless while on here - Paul Rudd is gorgeous isn't he?!

hedgepig · 31/07/2008 21:33

snowy cr** news about the house maybe you can get your picture in the paper and shame them into letting you stay
CSWS I found bf last time really hard DS didn't want to feed you could leave him 6hrs and he still wouldn't be interested. I'm sure the feelings I had that I must do it didn't help with the pnd I had. I will see how it goes this time and if it isn't working I will bottle feed earlier.

Im also a bit aprehensive about the size of this dd, dd3 was 8lb 11oz and it really hurt didn't have to have any stitches though

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/07/2008 21:52

You bunch of wusses - dd was 9lbs with nothing but gas and air!

Yes tedmundo - induction very much on the cards due to GD unless he comes pre due date of his own accord.

tedmundo · 31/07/2008 22:03

Hey I am a fully signed up member of wuss club and proud of it! And he was so tiny, god help me if he weighs anything near normal! I imagine a 9 pounder smarted a bit eh?!

rosebury · 31/07/2008 22:57

evening ladies sorry not posted for a long time just busy all the time.

Glad to see that you are all ok and growing nicely. I will be 31wks this weekend 9wks to go wow counting down feels amazing.

Pain relief does not even enter my head i have had my last four children at home without any intervention or assistance and my last ds was 9lbs 4oz and I am only 5 foot 2 inches tall so it is possible ladies but I have had a lot of practise.

I will now try to keep in touch it feels good to be back.

WheresTheAuPair · 01/08/2008 00:09

Hi all- love the new thread

has anyone else not yet worked out where exactly the new baby is going to go? Dh has the idea that he can go in with our toddler after a few weeks...my thoughts were more like moving him out of his office/boys room/upstairs shed. Trouble is where to move stuff to (have we got time to build an extension?!) If memory serves I never slept well with DS in the room- like sharing it with a v.noisy hamster- all that snuffling and wriggling!

Emmsy1 · 01/08/2008 06:36

Nothing wrong with being a wuss! if your brave and lucky enough to be having a home birth read the next few paragraphs!

WOMEN EXPERIENCE LESS PAIN AT HOME
It is well understood that sensations of pain in labour
are regulated by hormones released by the woman's body.
During the labour, oxytocin - the hormone which causes
contractions and helps the baby to be born - works in
harmony with endorphins - the body's own pain relieving
hormone. During a home birth, the woman's body will release
these hormones according to her needs and she will usually
cope well with the sensations of labour.

However, when a woman attempts to give birth in another
environment, such as a hospital, this process may not work
as well. Even if a woman feels rationally that hospitals
are 'safer' places in which to give birth, her subconscious
mind knows that this is not the case, and she feels insecure.
This causes her body to secrete the hormone adrenalin,
which causes the levels of both oxytocin and endorphins
to drop. She experiences far more pain than she would in
her own home and this has several other effects on her labour
which are described below.

Sallypuss · 01/08/2008 08:53

Hi everyone

New thread is really filling up fast isn't it?

csws - hope you have a lovely birthday with lots of pampering.

moodywren - lovely photos. Have got my 4D scan this pm so will post if I can work out how to do it. Puppy photos v. cute - I'd post pictures of our 3 hounds if I could get them to sit still long enough....

Have a good day all.

Lozza70 · 01/08/2008 09:04

Morning everyone. Thought I would post on the shiney new thread. Still suffering from pelvic pain and the belt given to me by the NHS physio has been cp. Probably not helped by the heat here and the fact even before I was preg I seemed to run a temp at least a few degrees above everyone else caramelbunny thanks for the website where you found your physio that sorted out your pain. Will be following that up this weekend.

Working from home today which is fantastic. We have just finished redecorating the whole of the upstairs of the house so I can start to get our lives reorganised at lunchtime and get things into the right rooms again. It feels like we have been camping in our own house for months. It also means that I can start buying baby things!! I was stopping myself as the house was so messy I had nowhere to store things.

Suffering more and more with swollen feet and the cankles are very attractive not. BP is all okay according to the ANC so I think it has just been the hot and humid weather plus working loads. I managed to rack up 350 miles in the car on Fri and another 250 on Wednesday with work which probabily did not help.

10 weeks to go now and starting to feel a little apprehensive as this is our first. Any advice from the more experienced??

07mumstheword · 01/08/2008 09:17

I've not been around for a while but keep checking in, glad you're all doing well and seem as tired as me!

I just had to comment on size! I'm measuring 2 wks ahead and MW told me I'm not destined to have a small baby (dd was 9lb 2oz with gas, air and pethadine) so I said to DH sod it if it's going to be big then lets try and hit the 10lb mark
My friend told me the pain is just the same between 7lb and 9lb 14oz so bring it on!
I'm still very very scared though

CSWS Happy Birthday to you. I should get the result of my GD today so I might be back for some advice.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 01/08/2008 09:29

Emmsy - Thank you for posting that about HB - I am planning one for this baby and keep having wobbles.

I had dd at home without any chemical pain relief - I used a pool and TENs machine (still not sure they work). I threw up so the MW wouldn't give me G&A. The pool was great but I got out to have the baby and despite nearly biting dh's knee off it was managable (they sensibly ignored my screams for drugs and to go to hospital as dd was nearly out at that stage). I have to say though as dd came out with her hand by her face I tore a bit and being stitched up was horrible I was given gas by then but still ouch - I am really scared about tearing again this time.

So any tips for avoiding the needle would be great[wince emoticon]

bigmouthstrikesagain · 01/08/2008 09:31

At my 28 week check up I did measure big (30cm) so I may well be having a big un (gulp) dd and ds were both over 8lbs so it seems likely.

bethoo · 01/08/2008 09:58

remember that fundal height is only an estimate, i measure 2 weeks small and bear in mind that when i had my 20 week scan she was the right size. it can depend on how the lo is lying too and how you carry. i carry high but like i say i am sure she is lying transverse as kicking is on both sides unless she is doing the splits!
am so tired these days, i guess it does nto help that i walk iver a mile to and from work each day! at least it keeps the weight down!
going to an open day at dog home this weekend and they have pony rides so hoping to get ds on one!

bethoo · 01/08/2008 12:12

does anyone find that when the turn over in bed their tummy hurts or is it jsut me!

ooh foot under the rib!

caramelbunny · 01/08/2008 12:52

Good luck with physio Lozza, will hopefully make the next few weeks a more pleasant experience.

Have been getting organised this week, got new pyjamas, slippers, dressing gown as well as those mini travel toiletries (I know they're a waste of money but they're just so cute) and stacks of maternity towels. Have also bought new babygroes and vests and coming home from hospital all-in-one suit for baby (although hoping for home birth). All seems quite exciting.

Had bought absolutely nothing during last pregnancy when my daughter made a surprise appearance at 32+4. Am torn now between thinking it could happen in the next 4 weeks and then worrying how I'll cope still sat here overdue with nothing else left to get ready. Am also worried about pushing out a full sized baby as my daughter was 3lb 13 and slipped out relatively easily.

rosebury · 01/08/2008 13:15

Hello everyone you have all been chatty this morning.

Emmsy1 great info on home birth I fully agree as I am not a martar in any way but staying at home for me pain relief simply is not needed maybe your article wxplains why.

Wherestheaupair sorry but you need to kick him out of the spare room find a small corner for the computer down stairs maybe buy a smaller desk and the rest of the clutter goes in the loft garage or shed maybe even the bin. We have just done the move and at first i thought it would not be possible but it has worked out quite well.

Lozzo olease start to slow down this is the final stretch and you will need all the energy that you can get. My feet and hands keep swelling up especiallly with this heat but I se it as a warning to slow down a bit I also keep an eye on my bp and rest up if it gets a little high.

Bignouth gas and air for stitches absolutely essential sorry but no tips on preventing a tear I am sure there are all kinds of tails about using various oils or creams to make the area supple but from my experience it is down to what happens at the exact moment of birth and just because you had a tear last time does not mean that you will necessarily tear again.

Bethoo totally agree with you about guessing the size of the baby it is very difficult for anyone to tell we all carry differently and I had a scan last time because i knew that the baby was big but the scan said it would be average 7 to 8pounds he was 9lbs 4oz. I laughed when i read you were going pony riding as I thought at first you wanted to get on a pony I was so relieved to realise that it was your ds that was going to ride.
