Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Lozza70 · 02/09/2008 15:31

Just back from my antenatal appt and all okay and baby engaged but met the consultant I am under for the first time. Just wait until you hear what he said.... I was on the bed and pulled up my tee shirt for him to listen to the baby and he just looked at me and laughed and said to the midwife that's an 8 pounder already I'm only 35 weeks on Thursday. I said you should not scare a preggers lady like that and he siad if the baby arrived next week it would be okay. Now I'm sure he was joking as he has booked me in for my next appt at 39 weeks but you should have seen my DH face when I told him!! Needless to say it has put a rocket under my preparations, previously I had been procrasinating and thinking I would do everything once I finish work at 37 weeks. Off to Mothercare tonight to look at car seats

ajm200 · 02/09/2008 16:15

Lozza, good nets that your appt went well. I suspect that the Dr was just teasing you about the size of the baby. Even with a scan it is all guesswork. Probably an idea to get most things sorted before 37 weeks though, just in case. Babies do tend to come when they like and yours may not decide to wait until its due date.

jenwa · 02/09/2008 17:29

I am uncomfy again today, bloody varicose vein in my bits , really swollen again. Off for a bath in a bit to calm it down then will look at the new ikea catalogue, yeh, although cant afford anthing. DH spending on the loft. Still not convinced it will be ready but it looks good. I am hoping it will and if baby is due on the right date then it will all be fine, if its early then we will be buggered!

star6 · 02/09/2008 17:39

ouch jenwa! How do you know it's a vericose vein down there? I can't even SEE that area...
DH is cooking dinner now but I feel like I could eat my own foot I'm so hungry.

Had 34 week check today. Baby is head down and am now measuring 32 weeks!!! That's in "normal limits" apparently. That means it grew 3 weeks worth (3cm) in just 2 weeks as at 32 weeks it measured 29. Feeling SO much better now. I don't care if he's a bit small (I'm 5'2" and DH is 5'9", so no much hope of a long one anyway), I just want him to be "normal" and healthy!!
My last two iron tests are low... the latest was 8.6 but I've been taking the tablets and floradix... just not working. But it's A LOT better now as earlier on it was 4.8!! She said it will just make me more tired and if I bleed a lot during labour then I would need a blood transfusion... how do you know if you're going to bleed a lot during labour? And is a blood transfusion quite normal? I'm ok with being tired... used to it now

ajm200 · 02/09/2008 17:49

Star, Good to hear that your baby has had a growth spurt and that you are happier about its size.

I've had low iron during this pregnancy too even though I've been taking iron since I got pregnant. To get your iron tablets to work, you could try cutting down on coffee, Taking the tablets with a large glass of juice and not eating any calcuim rich food around the time you take the tablets. It seems calcium prevents iron being absorbed.

You don't know if you are going to bleed a lot during pregnancy, there is no way of knowing or preventing it. Some blood loss is normal but if there is too much they sometimes have to give a transfusion. I know a lot of mums but only two have needed transfusions. It is not something that you need to worry about.

star6 · 02/09/2008 18:06

Thanks, ajm200. Good to know that's a routine thing.
Interesting about the calcium... didn't think of that. If you drink Soya milk I wonder if that is better?
Just ate a delicious meal of halloumi, sweet potato, vegetables, citrus dressing, rocket and spinach. Iron with citrus with calcium!

DH and I are ROFLing because I just got out of breath getting off of the sofa! HA!!!!!
I get up an hour earlier than I need to each day and take a walk for an hour... and I don't even have the energy at the end of the day to lift my beluga self off of the sofa!!! This is hilarious!!!!

bethoo · 03/09/2008 08:59

Morning everyone, hope you are all well.
just received an email that was sent just before midnight yesterday from twinklytoes, she had a large bleed yesterday morning til 6pm and had a scan which revealed a grade 4 placenta previa - full cover of cervix. she may be in hospital til baby arrives, cs booked for 1 Oct but if she has anymore bleeds then it may be earlier. she is hoping to return home but likely that she will be in til the delivery. ds is shellshocked but coping admiringly. she also sends her best wishes to all.
so if you do manage to get on the net twinkly our thoughts are with you.
xx

twinklytoes hope everything still goes smoohtly and LO holds out til 1st october, tons of love and luck

am going to have to bite the bullet and get DH to sort out my lady garden...got burns last time I waxed and hate shaving

hansnava · 03/09/2008 11:20

hi all
havent posted for ages so thought id better before i got kicked off the list.

so my consultant last week and my platlets are still low (even though that didnt make a difference with dd's birth. also said i can have csection as i had one last time also looks like i would have to have one neway as lo still breech.

bethoo my lo is quiet most of the time so i wouldnt worry too much. i asked consultant when i saw her and she said as long as u get ur 10 movements a day then thats ok.

twinklytoes hope ur doing ok and lo holds on for a few more weeks.

Lozza70 · 03/09/2008 13:24

Good luck twinklytoes hope you and LO are okay.

Any advice on how to handle an over excited Granddad to be? My parents are in Spain and I spent last night on the phone to my Dad trying to persude him not to book flights over to me for my due date and that we would call them once the baby has arrived. I cannot imagine going overdue with Mum and Dad sitting on the sofa keeping an eye on me for any sign that I may be going into labour! I would not mind but this is not the first grandchild as my sister had a baby last year.

On another subject question for CSWS or anyone else who may know. I'm just back from the shops with my Arnica and I think it was you who suggested it to try and prevent bruising etc. When do you start to take it? Similar question on the raspberry leaf tea. When should you start drinking it?

ronshar · 03/09/2008 13:33

Twinklytoes, another one who is desparate to be the first to deliver from the October thread. I hope all is ok. The best place to be is in hospital. Get DH to bring in a lap top and you can get yourself used to constant Mumsnetting.

Jenwa, ouch, varicous veins in your fanjo. That cant be nice for you.

Sambrads, maybe you should sit down with DH and explain how worried you are.It might help him to understand the moods. Also it might make him feel bad about moaning to you and then he will leave you alone

Bethoo, how is it all going with (X)DP? Are you talking again?

Blimey ladies still commuting! I am struggling to commute between the sofa and the loo!
I can also get my hands between bra and bump. I am getting some bad pains today. I took to my bed this morning. Touch wood they have gone now but I did really worry this morning. You would think I wouldnt be too bothered this being my third time
Hello to everyone else. I hope all is expanding nicely.

bethoo · 03/09/2008 13:34

my mw said rasbberry leaf at 35 weeks though on my packet it said from 30 weeks so anytime now shoudl be ok.

bethoo · 03/09/2008 13:37

we are talking a little thoug hjust on the phone these days though sometimes i feel like an inconvenience calling him so not bothering. ds is having his first hair cut at 4 so it is a family event so he is picking me up and we will both be there as he gets his blonde curls hacked trimmed off. they are jsut getitng knotty now and when his hair is wet they reach his shoulders! so must remember to take camera, PFB and all that! luckily it is his mothers shop so get it done for free otherwise i would have attempted it myself!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 03/09/2008 14:04

lozza we have similar issues with my folks - 1st grandchild and they live in france. Have persuaded them to wait until baby is born then book their tickets

ajm200 · 03/09/2008 14:41

I was advised to start taking the arnica at the first sign of labour, that way baby gets some too. The poor little mite is gonna get squashed a bit during the birth

Last time I took raspberry leaf from 28 weeks and this time from 30... it isn't going to make your body do anything it isn't ready for. Only avoid it if you have a history of miscarriage.

sambrads · 03/09/2008 15:34

hello ladie show are you all?

twinkletoes my thoughts are with you and good luck and take care

i bought raspberry leaf tablets this time as i feel that drinking the tea nearly killed me as i hated it was thinking of maybe bouncing on my birthing ball soon i have heard of 2 people who bounced at night and had there babies in the morning and they were only 35 weeks

jenwa · 03/09/2008 15:38

myjobsismum no they dont cause a problem and should just go away although I have heard about them rupturing but that can be in extreme cases, as long as the MW's are aware I think all should be ok.

As for the lady garden, yes also had been using electric razor and mirror but now scared I may shave my bits off and its akward in the mirror and swollen down there, maybe I will ask DH
