Sazzles good to see you about hun

Buckets blooming daft isn't it - 'they' are always moving the goalposts - same with weaning! One day they'll make up their blooming minds

Sorry to hear DS's paed is being an ass!! Good luck trying him dairy free, I hope it does the trick (my newphew cannot have any dairy at all & OMG the things that contain dairy products amazes me, he even has to have a special tomoato ketchup )

MrsMagooo · 30/07/2008 18:07

Sazzles I've been wondering how accurate growth scans are...had to have one at 35+3 and E was estimated at weighing 5lbs 3oz.

DD was 7lbs 11oz so I'm guessing E will be about the sameish weight??!

PetitFilou1 · 30/07/2008 18:16

On the formula conversation: if I go down that route (and I hope I don't have to) I will be doing the same as I did with ds - Mrs Magoo style. Bllcks to new guidelines - what do they want you to do - make it in a Michael Jackson stylee isolation tent?

VG Thanks for my gold star - but really it is down to having my friend and her dcs with me - its pretty easy with company isn't it?

ataraxis · 30/07/2008 18:17

thanks sazzles . things seem to have calmed down a bit at the moment so hopefully won't be an issue.

BabiesEverywhere · 30/07/2008 18:18

"Nothing to stop you doing it, just be discreet when there's a HV around to avoid a lecture"

Except potentially our babies could get seriously ill or die, if we don't make formula to the new guidelines AND happen to get a bad batch of formula. It is only a tiny risk, but it does happen.Link Here

Though I don't understand why it is not possible to make formula in sterile sachets like a lot of medicine is made. Sure it would cost more to make but with the formula companies massive profit margins, they could afford to do it and that way reduce/elimate this issue.

ataraxis · 30/07/2008 18:21

pf, that's what i was thinking on reflection too - that both my DSs have been fine using 50/50 ish (pre-boiled fridged + newly boiled) so there is no way i will be changing anything to make life more difficult!

And anyway, with other ones around these LOs are bound to get stuff into their mouths with millions of bacteria on from an early age (thinking about the fingers of a 3 year old ).

But I do take on board the comment about HV... managed to make my HV visit last less than 5 mins today. She came over, gave me some leaflets, asked if I had any questions - nope, was I sure - yep. OK then, bye... '

VintageGardenia · 30/07/2008 18:22

Yes doing things is SO much easier when you have a friend (easier than a DP/H actually) and another child. I am much more energetic and good-humoured with friends than family. Bonkers really.

BabiesEverywhere · 30/07/2008 18:24

Seems like loads of August mums are seeing health visitors is this a pre- visit for the baby to be, or visits for existing children ? Or is this something else I have yet to have arranged.

MrsMagooo · 30/07/2008 18:27

Trouble is guidelines change so frequently & one person will say one thing & someone else will argue that, that's wrong

Ataraxis lol at thinking about the fingers of a 3 year old - so true isn't it!

I remember thinking my MW would be horrified that we had a dog when I was PG with DD & saying I had to be very careful when DD started crawling etc - she didn't bat an eyelid & said having pets would help build up her immune system no end lol

ataraxis · 30/07/2008 18:27

BE - mine invited herself! It was a pre-baby visit, not entirely sure of why (didn't have one at this stage with either of the other two) think it is just that she is a maternity cover HV... or something...

VintageGardenia · 30/07/2008 18:29

No HVs here, not a sniff of one.

PetitFilou1 · 30/07/2008 18:29

Babieseverywhere
You don't get a HV visit pre baby - I expect the people going are taking existing children. Tendency is to obssessively go with first baby then hardly bother with second. Third ... well quite frankly ds2 will be lucky if he gets weighed more than twice!

Mind you mine did come round when I first moved to the area - which is fair enough

MrsMagooo · 30/07/2008 18:34

Oooo Sazzles you jammy thing you enjoy!!!!

Thanks for that re scan info - so hard to tell isn't it!!

I was told throughout my PG with DD that she would be 9lbs+ so we bought everything in 0-3 which was miles to big for her, she was 7lbs 110z when born & still really dinky now (she's 25 months & in 9-12 months clothes) so this time I have bought a mix of clothes from 7.5lbs & up just to cover my bum

Buckets · 30/07/2008 18:34

Oh God, HVs! First timers, please take everything they say with a pinch of salt!
I got an answering machine message from my HV yesterday wondering if there was anything she could help with DS over the holidays. WTF? Like what? I've researched EVERYTHING to do with special needs for under 5s round here and I know there isn't anything he'd be eligible for, let alone anything she's be able to help with. I assume she's talking about the SN angle anyway but DH is off for August on Paternity and then DS starts pre-school so we don't actually need anything!

MrsMagooo · 30/07/2008 18:38

I did have a really lovely HV who helped me no end get through my PND but all of a sudden I seem to have a different one

Some woman I've never heard of phoned to book a date for DD's 2 year check - I have no idea what happend to my lovely HV

Had a battleaxe of a MW though!

TwilightSurfer · 30/07/2008 18:39

Buckets I don't know if things are more lax or not.... maybe. I know that of my friends that use/used bottle/bottles, they'd wash them out with soap and water (nipples too) and set them on a post to dry. I (and alot of folks i know) use Playtex Drop-In bottles. Not a lot of cleaning involved with them other than the nipple. And I would just hand wash those with soap and water after each use...occasionally I would pop them in a pop of boiling water if I got a crazy whim. It does seem, after reading all the posts on the subject, you all take more care than at least me (i'll leave the rest of the states out).

As for bad formula.....you must be talking about liquid kinds. I've never used liquid only powder mix.

See I'm a bit LAZY......{{{twilight shows off her LAZY badge, with honor}}}

Nb - feel guilty writing this on here as it's still mainly ante-natal and I'm post-natal and hormonal.

Hmm - not sure I'm in happy daze. Am very tearful a fair bit of the time. Keep panicking about what we've done, and how life will never be the same. dd loves ds (first time i've typed that!)thank goodness. If she showed any jealousy I think i'd be even worse, but it's all my problem - not hers or dh's. I think if i knew when i'd get a full night's sleep i'd be ok, but life tired terrifiies me and makes me feel even more irrational.

those wgho bf before is it normal to be feeding fairly non stop at this stage??? When he's awake he's either feeding or pooing (and pooing in sleep as well) - we've had a few walks round where he's looking out at the world with cofnused/intrigued baby eyes but on the whole i've been feeding him a LOT. SOmetimes 30 mins between end of one feed and start of next. SOme feeds are more like snacks (10 mins) - some are longer (though thankfully not as long as dd's used to be) but it's a lot. That's right for newborn right???? When does it start to settle into a bit more of a predictable pattern???? Right now I can't see how i'll ever get anything done - dh is doing everything else. Once he's back at work and dd is at shcool again in sept how will i get dinner cooked let alone anything else? or will dh still do it all for a while??

I'll stop - cos I'm rambling and irrational.

MrsMagooo · 30/07/2008 18:43

I think tbh we are a tad paranoid over here & go a bit OTT with sterlising etc!

I'm a bad mummy - I did sterilise the bottles but from a fairly early age if DD dropped a dummy or something I would simply pick it up give it a suck or a quick blow & hand it back to her!

A friend of mine sterlisies everything that isn't nailed down - her DS is one of the sickliest babies I have ever known!

Buckets · 30/07/2008 18:44

Sazzles, DS has never done a solid poo in his life so we're quite used to it. It just annoys me that there could be a really simple solution like an intolerance or allergy but if I want to try and isolate it I have to do it all by myself. What if he doesn't grow out of it and is still having horrendous stinky explosions (that he doesn't notice) when he starts school, nappy or no nappy? How's that supposed to help a boy with a social disability?
Better go put some soya milk on the shopping list, start slipping it into his milk.

MrsMagooo · 30/07/2008 18:45

Albs Ramble away hun - that's what we're here for

{{{{hugs}}}}

All sounds very normal to me hun - things will settle down though!

Glad to hear DD is loving DS

CaptainCaveman · 30/07/2008 18:47

Lovely new thread TS - very glamorous and upmarket compared to other threads .

Well I've just had a hormonal melt down and cried for 30 mins. So now I do have a headache and flashing lights in front of my eyes. I'm buggered if I'm ringing the clinic whilst the witch is still on duty though. What set me off? Mainly the fact that none of the chinese take-aways sell Yuk Sum or shredded chicken in lettuce leaves. That and I was explaining to dh about the clinic visit.....

oops your story made me laugh out loud, especially when you waved to him!!

VG nice put-downs. I'm liking your style

I've also got back ache now. fucking fucked off

VintageGardenia · 30/07/2008 18:47

Just read the IBFAN story . I did use formula for DS as a supplement to the bf (I know, I know, not supposed to...). We had, like others, sterilised bottles of boiled water in serried ranks in the fridge, and we added powder as needed. I never, until today, heard anything about bacteria etc in the powder. How horrible.

As far as I remember we steriised everything up to about 12 months, even though DS was pottering about and getting manky by then. I suppose there's a difference between the odd lump of mud and the kind of dangerous bacteria that lurk in bottle teats.

I have completely avoided thinking about this until today. I don't even have a single bottle in the house if needed!

Buckets · 30/07/2008 18:49

Won't offer you chocolate CC in case it makes your headache worse - have some Thorntons toffee.
