Morning ladies

I have been so crap and haven't posted for over a week. I thought maternity leave was going to be all about sitting on MN but obviously not

So just to say CONGRATULATIONS to those who have thier little ones.

All the best to Dizzy and ChaCha for today. Can't wait to hear from you later

Well today is a great day to have a baby, as it happens to be my birthday So please update the stats TS 28 today and feel like shite!

Was up night before last with sickness and pooing (apologies I know it's breakfast time) This started very strong pains that went on for about 4 hours, and then stopped. So yesterday was completely shattered and nothing to show for it. Exactly like the episode I had 5 weeks ago.

Oh yes, had ante natal check up at docs yesterday aswell, wasn't normal doc. He looked at me and said "1 baby or 2?" I said "Just the 1 I hope" so he said "Oh, you better get on the scales then!" Cheeky fecker!

Sorry for the me me me post, I have tried to catch up on the thread and can see everybody is generally well apart from having had enough of being PG and just wanting the babies out! Can I join that club please?

CaptainCaveman · 31/07/2008 10:01

Just in case you need to know....this is what happened for my planned cs. An emergency may be different in terms of preparation? (anyone know?)

Planned CS - usually done under a spinal anaesthetic.
The anaesthetist administers the spinal block whilst you are sat upright on the operating table, then lays you down. With me they then tilted me a little from side to side (to make sure it took full effect???). They then check by spraying you with some freezing cold spray that you are sufficiently numb.

Catheter gets put in. IV line in your arm. BP cuff on your arm.

Screen is put up across your chest so you can't see all the 'action'!
Surgeon gets to work and about 15 mins later whips out a baby!
Then they sew you back together and off you pop to recovery.
Ta-da.

CaptainCaveman · 31/07/2008 10:06

Happy birthday shazza . I agree it is a great day for a bday as it is also my best friends' birthday today. Nice to see you back anyway!

I'm having a much better day today (ha, it's only 10am!). I plan to watch a 24 marathon and sleep a lot. Might put a wash on if I can be arsed. Other than that I intend to drink iced water and eat ice lollies and ice pops . Plenty of room on the comfy settees if you care to join me.

My huge feet are super itchy - anyone else got this? Not sure what to put on them. Witch hazel is doing nothing - might try some sudocrem

PetitFilou1 · 31/07/2008 10:07

Thanks for that CC - What is it like afterwards? How long do you stay in for and how fast is recovery (in your experience)?

PetitFilou1 · 31/07/2008 10:08

Happy Birthday to Shazza btw! Missed that!

ataraxis · 31/07/2008 10:09

Happy birthday shazza - 28 ... hope you have a fantastic day.

pf - I had DS2 at home (am hoping for the same) - I don't think you are being too casual about it, it is very casual at home (assuming everything goes well). From what I gather, they are pretty damn quick at blue lighting people to hosp if required (though I am sure it won't be). If you are comfortable with it, and things have gone smoothly, then in my opinion definitely the best place to be.

As DS2 came in the middle of the night, DS1 was in bed and we didn't bother anyone else (he was at the door just as DS2 was born, apparently that happens quite a lot - took it all in his stride). If you have people who are happy to take the DCs and are available then no worries.

A friend of mine had a HB earlier this month - her first DD was a bit of a nightmare birth and she (friend) lost loads of blood, so the MW etc were a bit cautious, but she really wanted a HB this time and everything went swimmingly.

CaptainCaveman · 31/07/2008 10:17

pf I felt a bit sore afterwards and the morphine gave me itchy skin (common side effect), but I wouldn't say I found it painful. Was up and out of bed the next day but plan to do it sooner this time if I am allowed.

I think I felt more delicate than anything. I took paracetamol and voltarol for 3 days then nothing. Physically I could have gone home after 3 days but ds was too small so we ended up staying in for 5 days.

ataraxis · 31/07/2008 10:19

cc - can I come please? very very ...

my day -

  1. work (or pretend to)
  2. sainsbury's (DS2 playing up last night prevented me from doing an online order and we have nearly no food in the house.
  3. take the boys swimming
  4. go recycling
  5. dinner, playing, bed
  6. ironing (have about 4 hours worth)

I want your day instead, I'll even take the itchy feet in exchange

Shazza2002 · 31/07/2008 10:28

CC Not sure if there's enough room on the sofa for this lard ar$e. Bloody doctor, he was a man I must add, why when you're pregant do people suddenly think it's ok to insult you.

Helpfull post about the CS aswell. I had VB first time but everytime I go for check ups this time baby seems to have changed position, so if baby doesn't play ball this time I'm wondering what will happen.

My day involves;

Getting dressed (have to include that as it is a chore)
Going to Next for friends birthday present
Card shop

That's it I think, not very exciting for a birthday a know. Was planning on going out for a curry this evening but stomach is still not settled and can't face it.

FoghornLeghorn · 31/07/2008 11:32

Back from hospital. Baby is laying the right way YAY . Obviously I'm over the moon it means no CSection but also slightly disappointed it's just sit and wait now, nothing anyone can do.

DH is sure midwife said 'she' at one point during the scan, although I didn't pick up on it. Now part of me wishes we knew for sure what we were having.

sarahnh · 31/07/2008 11:38

Great news FL... if its any help that happened to me with my dd.. we dodn't know what sex the baby was had to have a late scan and mw said she during the scan.. we nearly died from shock but didn't say anything and low and behold it was a girl so maybe she is!!!

Happy birthday Shazza.... i cannot believe we are nearly here.. i keep remember all our message on the conception board wondering if we would ever concieve and now our babies are nearly here

Shazza2002 · 31/07/2008 11:42

Baby lying the right way is something I just presumed happened, it's only now starting to worry me, so am really pleased for you FH

As for lady mentioning 'she', I think they either say she or he, as apposed to 'it'. But that doesn't help does it

Shazza2002 · 31/07/2008 11:44

I know sarahn To be honest it has gone quite quickly really, the 1st 7/8 months flew by and it's only this bit seems to be dragging.

PetitFilou1 · 31/07/2008 11:45

ataraxis thanks, that's really helpful. I'm just quite chilled about giving birth but I was even the first time I did it (for some reason - as I am not a naturally relaxed person!)

Dh I think feels a bit lost as I suspect feels that I have just gone ahead and taken charge of the whole thing. I think it is partly as he is a Dr and he just thinks of all the worst case scenarios. I think he is being really OTT at the moment.

I may, of course, get my comeuppance when d-day arrives, but I hope not.

cc thanks for the postscript about c-sections too...

alittlebitshy · 31/07/2008 11:50

happy birthday shazza

re this thread vs postnatal - who thinks we should just carry on on this one til we've all popped THEN move over to pn?? else we're going to get confused with 2 going on at once and i for one would miss those ladies still here......

We've just been out for a coffee. we're back and dh has gone to collect dd from her holiday club (she's going to one in the am and one in the pm this week and is LOVING it!!!)

Am meant to be uploading the pics from camera but can't see where dh has put the blasted wire thignummy (technical term has got lost in the depths of mumnesic mind).

Thanks for all your kind words

Even though feeling tired (we had a few shorter bursts of sleep but poss more overall even though not the 5 hour stretch if that makes sense) i'm feeling reasonably positive right this sec

Good luck dizzy and chacha. yay - more babies!

MrsMagooo · 31/07/2008 11:59

HaPpY bIrThDaY Shazza

Sausageandmash · 31/07/2008 12:27

Morning all,

Lots of good luck to dizzy and chacha and lots of contraction-y type vibes to those who are desperate for their bumps to 'exit the premises'.

TS - Lol re: your constipation issue - is your MIL eating humble pie as you reach for the prunes?

I wonder whether you might be able to change my stats - this LO is STILL breech so I have a C-Sec date of 15th August!! (FL - glad yours has made the decision to turn - mine's been more of a Maggie Thatcher!)

Very odd to be joining you ladies who know when you're giving birth (last delivery was em. C-Sec, after they found out my dd was breech, part way through labour - I must just have an upside down sort of womb!) put it's def. focussed my mind as to hosp. bag, nursery, etc. I'm nearly half way their physically, it's just my mind which has to compute!

CaptainCaveman · 31/07/2008 12:51

Hey s&m here's to weird wombs which only accommodate a breechy! Both mine have been stubbornly breech . Apparently its either to do with the shape of your uterus, or your pelvis, or both, or just a 'freak' of nature. Personally I like to think of myself as extraordinary .

Got a call from the mw at MAS - my blood tests show another raise in uric acid levels so the doc wants me to go back on sat for another bp check, bloods and CTG. I do feel better knowing that I will be seen before Monday.

I wonder how the 'birthing' ladies are getting on? It's so exciting, I can't wait to find out what dizzy had!!

CaptainCaveman · 31/07/2008 12:52

and what chacha had - I just realised she doesn't know either! What an exciting day

cyteen · 31/07/2008 13:32

Hello ladies, another absolutely knackered mum-to-be here. gigglegirl and ataraxis put me to shame, I'm not working and have no other kids to look after yet still can barely drag myself to the kitchen to make lunch, let alone do anything useful Think Joe-in-the-womb is tired too, he's been very quiet all day.

Have been to the eye clinic this morning to have photos taken of a pigmentation spot on the back of my right eye - they gave me those dilatory eyedrops so now I am a wonky-eyed freak Popped in to see my former workmates as well (I used to be a med sec at the hospital), which was lovely and also completely cured me of any residual nostalgia for the place. Now I am lying on the sofa being loved on by the cat....so sleepy....

Happy birthday Shazza! As a special treat I think you should go back and slap that cheeky doctor in the face - how rude.

bealcain · 31/07/2008 13:49

ok, so i;ve just had an hours sleep, why do i not feel refreshed and prepared to start the afternoon??

had a sweep this morning and now feel really niggly, it hurt like hell. mw obv. didn;t have very long fingers

getting induced on 08.080.08 at 8am, who's bettig she'll come at 8:08pm??

TS lmao at constipation, although i'm sure it's very uncomfortable. but if you release it the baby will just drop out to??

sorry i can't add to cot talk VG i'm a co-sleeper and both of mine went straight into beds, although a drop side would be handy i'm sure.

Annvan i take it you're asleep now, happy dreaming hun

LadyOfWaffle · 31/07/2008 13:49

Happy Birthday Shazza

Are Dizzy and ChaCha off having babies today? Very out of the loop. GOod luck you two if you are!

I can't believe at least 4 babies are here already, I am in denial about the fact I have max of... 18 days left (If I am 10 days overdue and induced). Keeping legs crossed at least for another week until DH gets back off his training course

Righty, off to get more preparing done before DH leaves - it seems to be taking forever! No idea where the playmat/gym or anything is yet [frazzled] At least the mountain of newborn clothes are all washed now - can't believe I was worried I didn't have enough!

Take Care all xxxxxxxxxx

Buckets · 31/07/2008 14:21

PF You need to get your DH on a homebirth website or a Sheila Kitzinger book from the library or Ebay - I'm afraid he's never going to take your word for it!

Gigglegirl you are a machine! Just as well you're having a CSec, it will force you to sit and rest

My moans: I had insomnia most of the night for 1st time, stupidly just lay there the whole time, my fault really. New alarm clock I bought yesterday had defective light so swapped it for another model today but that's mainspowered and I have no sockets nearby so that will have to go back too. And now, suddenly, in the last weeks of my last ever pregnancy I develop stretchmarks right in the middle of my tummy - thought I had gotten away with a couple of discreet extensions on the hips.
