Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
winemakesmummyclever · 07/08/2008 13:51

Hi,

Can I join you all here? I have been on the March 09 thread, but my scan yesterday put my edd back to 23 Feb. Added to the fact that I will be having another cs, that means I will probably have the lo anytime from mid Feb onwards (fingers crossed).

Just to introduce myself, I am 34, live near Manchester with my dh (married 3yrs this month) and my ds (aged 28m). This is my 4th pg, sadly I lost the other babies. I am a SAHM and pt student, having thrown away a glorious NHS career to be a librarian . Lord knows how I am going to stay on top of everything as the baby is due bang in the middle of the academic year. Ho hum - life was always meant to be interesting!

Had my first scan yesterday and all is well so far. Hope to stay with you all right through until February!

Nappy fever!!!!!

Pink Tulips - Kushies (also sometimes spelled Kooshies) are probably one of the best AIO nappies out there but they weren't for me and DS. I found that I had to boost them with proper extra booster and, before I found the bumbles, had to use a disposable overnight cause no way would it have lasted. On the positive side, they wash really well, dry quite quickly, as AIOs go) and are really pretty cause of all the fab designs.
If you are still interested, I would be happy to post you a few to try out. Mine are from 10lbs.
My bumbles have poppers, I have 4 nippa ones which I use for overnight so that I don't have to send them to nursery...they find poppers confusing sometimes!

Welcome home McDreamy...I saw him on TV last night...naughty thoughts drifting across my face

Welcome to the Thread WMMC.

PinkTulips · 07/08/2008 15:16

i find i use competely differnat nappies at night than for daytime as both mine are heavy night wetters... they can barely walk in their night nappies they're so boosted

i ordered a few more last night, a couple of kissaluvs (i know they're not supposed to be great but god damn they're cute!), a couple of bambeasies with poppers, an ella's house hemp nappy, a swaddlebees sized velour nappy and a swaddlebees econappi's pocket.

already have 10 sandies as they were on special and 90% of people seem to get on with them so figured it was worth it. a few wraps and a couple more nappies and i'll be sorted.

i'm determined to get organised before october as dd was born at the same time of year and christmas made such a mess of our finances that all the things i'd planned to 'pick up cheap in the sales' ended up not being bought.

we ended up with no cot! no baby equipment at all really except a cradle i'd used as a baby and a travel system my parents bought us. we had to go into town when she was a week old to buy a baby bath, nursing bras and more clothes for her ffs! about the only thing i had bought were nappies as dp had gotton a voucher for the shop that sold the BMs as a xmas bonus.

am determined not to be caught short like that again so want to have everything gotten before october when i start my xmas shopping.

hello WMMC.... love your name! you must be really pleased to have less time to go than you thought

chilledmama · 07/08/2008 15:30

I have a couple of Bamboozles which dry really quickly and are really absorbant given that they are quite thin, everyone I know that has Sandys loves them...I like the bumbles cause we have such hard water (portsmouth)that we need the nice inner bit otherwise his bits would be red raw! Also makes removal of solids easier
I love nappies...so easy to spend far too much money!!!
My next thing will be to buy a new wrap for bambino so that DS can have push chair for a little while longer! I love looking on bigmamaslings
they have so many lovely items and I can hire them first to check which one i eally want. I currently have a wilkinet and a beco but need to replace the wilkinet with something a bit more specialist[win]

onwardandupward · 07/08/2008 15:43

I'm going minimalist with baby supplies this time.

Last time we had a (charity shop) pram which I think got used 3 times. We had a cot given as a gift which was the most expensive laundry basket I have ever owned. I had a breast pump and bottles and stuff for EBM, but was rubbish at expressing, so I sold them...

This time, I'm planning to have a few basic clothes, a wilkinet and a ring sling, and some nappies. Oh, and a car seat for when we go in cars (unlikely to be more than once every few weeks). The end. Let's see how that works out!

herbgarden · 07/08/2008 16:14

Little Miss Norty - I too feel like my insides have shifted up right to just under my bra strap (at the front ) -same feeling I had when very bit last time and it almost makes me feel a bit out of breath and full - is that what yours feels like??

Lucky for me I'll recycle all ds stuff and I have a sil with 3 kids and won't be having any more so I'll get all the stuff back she lent me last time - hurray !!....including double buggy if I need it.....it's great having generous family sometimes !

Welcome WMMC...

herbgarden · 07/08/2008 16:16

ps just did a search to see when davidsmom last posted on mumsnet and it was a while ago - hope all ok with her....

mslucy · 07/08/2008 17:59

onwardandupward I'm liking the cut of your job.

Our battered maclaren will be hosed down and I will be begging some babyclothes off friends and relatives - I gave mine away ages ago.

The new one can go in DS's cotbed and we'll get DS a bunk bed, which he will LOVE.

Maternity clothes (with exception of 2 topshop treats) off ebay and begged off friends and neighbours.

We have a very active freecycle community in our area which will doubtless come in handy.

The only thing I really fancy is a sling. Any suggestions?

laidbackinengland · 07/08/2008 18:09

I've got a lovely sling which I used for DS3 - it's a wrap which not everone is into, but it worked well and he loved be curled up in it (a bit hard to tie up by yourself to start off with but you soon get used to it.)

www.littlepossums.co.uk/slings/wrap-slings.htm#ellaroowrap

I am just beggin, borrowing and stealing for this one too, can't be doing with the stress of expenditure ! The only problem I will have if it is a girl.... hell no...she will have to be a tomboy !

Gina80 · 07/08/2008 18:21

Evening everyone. DS has just dropped day feeds in the last 2 weeks and has started showing signs that he's not bothered with the morning feeds. Wonder if it is the taste as he was a complete boobymonster before

Hi WMMC - I wholeheartedly approve of the name Welcome. I might be bumped off into your space on the March thread after my scan in 2 weeks as I'm currently 28th.

TinkBM - Is it the same map as BLW site one? as I'm already registered on that one (under my usual name)

rosieposey · 07/08/2008 18:43

Hello everyone - havent posted in a few days because its been pretty manic here - glad to see everyone is a ok and welcome to WMMC too

Off to see Batman movie with DP later on (not really my thing but i promised!) so will scoff popcorn and revels for two hours this evening ... bliss

Hi McDreamy - glad all is well with you - are you in Wiltshire at the moment - i think it was yourself that said you were coming back here for a while

I used my doppler today and picked up the lo's heartbeat for the first time - was so chuffed and all my DD's heard it just as clear as a bell. tried it at 10 and a half weeks and couldnt find a thing - 12 weeks on Sat! its flying by

herbgarden · 07/08/2008 19:37

I used a baby bjorn with ds and found it really comfortable for me and he loved it....

MarkStretch · 07/08/2008 20:31

Oh boo, I feel very sad

It seems dd isn't settling at her Dad's and can't sleep. She just rang me to say goodnight and at the end of the call her voice cracked and she started crying and she is so far away, I can't do anything to comfort her.

Now I feel like a mean mum for making her go and stay with her Dad.

I hate it

herbgarden · 07/08/2008 20:40

Oh dear Mark Stretch - that must be hard to hear her feeling upset...it's always a difficult time that going to bed though isn't it....just hope she'll be better in the morning.

MarkStretch · 07/08/2008 20:50

Well apparently she had a good day and they had lots of fun watching films and making fairy cakes and going to the shops. It's just bedtime.

But I HATE not being able to cuddle and kiss her and smell her lovely head.

But I also know it's very important that she spends time with her Dad, and that he and all of his family think the absolute world of her and would hate for her to be upset. Ex-DP lives with his mum and dad so I'm sure him and Granny will be cuddling her to bits.

I just miss her.

MarkStretch · 07/08/2008 20:50

Sorry for being miserable everyone.

onwardandupward · 07/08/2008 20:55

Slings. Oh don't get me started!

With tiny baby (up to about a year) I love love love the Wilkinet. We also had a second hand Tomy last time, which was a real Dad's sling (I couldn't stand it, it just hung off my shoulders)

From about 3 months until the child gets too heavy (somewhere around 3?) a ring sling is a must have IMO. I have always loved the Huggababy, but they have quite a stiff fabric and short "tail" - I did get a maya wrap ring sling, and found it too stretchy and slippery for my taste, but I know some mums of newborns who just adore them.

THe Babyhawk is cool and I love the Toddlerhawk for older children.

And I've hardly started...

onwardandupward · 07/08/2008 20:56

Oh, and I've never been a big fan of baby bjorns - friends with them were saying they were getting back ache at 3 months old, but our wilkinet was still going strong at a year...

herbgarden · 07/08/2008 21:24

I'm sure her granny will be making her feel all loved and comforted. I don't like not really having a last cuddle with ds before bed....what happens when they don't want cuddles anymore ??

I've never tried any other slings onward - maybe I should have a shop around ??

TinkerBellesMum · 07/08/2008 22:29

mslucy I'm a wrapper all the way! I make my own which works out really cheap - especially as I can sell the spares and make most of the money back. I'm still using mine now, even though most people put a limit on jersey wraps - all mine are jersey or fleece.

Gina, not sure I know the BLW one. This is a map just for this group

dinkystinky · 08/08/2008 09:00

Morning all. Markstretch - dont worry about feeling sad: its natural I'll bet DD is absolutely fine today and will have lots of fun with her dad and granny and granddad - and you're being a good mum by ensuring she gets to spend quality time with them.

I had a babybjorn for DS - was fine and used it until he was 1 - though I think you do need to ensure you get the positioning right and do the straps up tight to avoid the backache everyone complains about. He was a nosy little critter from birth and loved being in it peeking out at the world so would have hated being wrapped up in a sling or wrap where all he could see was the sling or me - though each baby is different. My NCT friends all swore by their ring slings though tried DS in one of theirs and he wasnt having any of it!

Scan this afternoon - abit irrational but feel like I did at school before a big test. Just hope everything is ok...

Gina80 · 08/08/2008 09:34

Good luck at your scan this afternoon Dinky x

winemakesmummyclever · 08/08/2008 09:42

Thanks for the welcome. There are so many of you, it's going to take me a while to get up to speed.

I have never used a sling or wrap, even though I wanted to . When pg with ds, I developed sacroiliac joint problems (similar to PSD) which have never fully resolved (despite physio, TENS, ultrasound & accupuncture), so dh did all the sling wearing whilst I concentrated on keeping myself upright!

Markstretch - I bet your dd is having a whale of a time today and being cuddled and cossetted by her dad and gp. She'll be home before you know it and you can just sit still and snuggle her close while she tells you of her adventures.

Dinky - all the best for your scan today.

Gina80 - the March ladies are lovely - will still be lurking on there despite def having a Feb edd.

Must go and try to persuade ds to get dressed before we have to take grandma to the hairdressers. The little exhibitionist just loves being naked!

onwardandupward · 08/08/2008 09:47

With the Wilkinet, the baby can be facing outwards from when the neck is strong enough - about 3 months?

And it'd be a similar age last time when I learned how to carry a baby upright and facing out in a ring sling

So slings are fine for outgoing babes!

I have to say, while I worked out the wilkinet myself no problem, with the ring sling, it really helped to have a friend who was an experienced ring slinger, and we spent a weekend together while she showed me all the tricks of the trade!

LittleMissNorty · 08/08/2008 11:16

Good luck for scan Dinky .....report back!

Hello everyone else and welcome to the thread WMMC
