Its good that you have only one person overseeing your pregnancy Singing - that is a position that i would love to be in as from what i can remember the NHS did tend to keep you in the dark and i wasnt perusing the internet for info the way i am able to now. Thats sound advice though Singing - stick with one practioner if you can

idontbelieveit · 08/07/2008 19:17

hello all. Good to see another new thread.
I went to the bank today and paid in a couple of cheques at the deposit point but somehow didn't put the slip in with the cheques so they had to phone me for my account details . Think that dd keeping me up all night might have something to do with it.
i am 10 weeks tomorrow woohoo! got to go and cook dinner but back in a bit.

Singingintherain · 08/07/2008 19:18

I am just so glad that I have the chance to be Private this time. I have never had that chance before. I must admit that I do use the state sytem here. I find that it is easier to be seen in an emergency. I just make sure that I let my consultant know as soon as possible of any results. My GP is also good, but I have not yet seen a midwife.

I am not sure how they look after you here. My consultant is good for my medical issues and those of my pregnancy, but you need the support of a Midwife.

I am very worried about having antenatal classes as they will not be in English and I have forgotten since it was 13 and 9 years ago since my 2 DD's. I am not sure if they even have them or what will happen to me. I do know that the whole labour process is DH free here. He waits outside. I think DVD's will be my best option at the moment.

OP posts:
rosieposey · 08/07/2008 19:33

What? do they make you labour without your DH? Thats really poo I mean some women like to without their partners but i dont think i would want to. I know what you mean about wanting to do Ante Natal classes again as its been nearly 12 years for me too - i am sorry you dont speak the language so will find it difficult to participate - your DH speaks it though right? Could he translate for you if he went with you at all? DVD's are ok but its nice to make friends at the classes too - am hoping i do as dont know anyone around here either

Singingintherain · 08/07/2008 19:45

No, my DH does not speak Spanish either. His is just a better than mine.

Yes, I have seen several men having to wait outside the delivery room during my visits to the emergency room. At one point there were more men than women waiting.

I hope I can have mine in the Private Hospital, where it might be different. I could not cope on my own. I think I will feel so isolated.

OP posts:
rosieposey · 08/07/2008 19:56

Well hopefully it stands to reason that you should be able to get to use a private hospital if you are insured through your DH's company fingers crossed. And surely given the day and age that we live in you should be able to have your DH in with you whilst in labour regardless - maybe it just isnt the done thing over there but they dont actually stop you if you want your partner in with you? I hope so

oooggs · 08/07/2008 20:38

blimey singing - hope the private clinic allows dh there

I am 10+4 today and I feel/look the size of a whale, twins wrecked my tummy muscles and I am eating so much of anything just to stave off the sickness - not that it is working

oopsacoconut · 08/07/2008 22:04

Hi just a crasher - McDreamy - The Royal united Hospital in Bath run a private Nuchal clinic - scan and bloods cost us £200 and for us was worth it - we had 20mins in with sonographer and then bloods. Tst results came in by 6 pm the following day. CAT me if you want contact details for them.

TennantbellesMum · 08/07/2008 22:29

Quick reminder about the map, if you want to add yourself email me: tinkerbellesmum @ ymail.com and I'll send you an invite.

I thought I'd let you know I got a call from PALS today. She's spoken to the doctor's boss and she's going to have a word with her and explain how things are done. Whilst she (PALS lady) was in antenatal she took some juniors aside and explained to them too. Should be interesting to see how this goes in future.

PinkTulips · 08/07/2008 23:27

woo hoo.... 10 weeks tomorrow! a quarter of the way there

according to dp i definitely look pregnant now... eeek!

still haven't told my parents as the less time my mother has to freak me out about SB the better... will have to tell them next time they see me though as it's fairly obvious. think my dad might have guessed already though

that's great about the PALS woman speaking to the docs tink.... hope it has an effect on the way they speak to you and others like you

TinkerBellesMum · 08/07/2008 23:50

PinkTulips, if last time is anything to go by, I'm a third of the way there!

PinkTulips · 09/07/2008 00:01

eeeek, exciting and terrifying for you! are you optimistic about getting further with this preg?

have you talked to sparklygothkat at all? she's had 4 preterm babies and has alot of info and advice about not being able to go full term with a pregnancy, think her longest was 33 weeks.

TinkerBellesMum · 09/07/2008 00:09

We've chatted on the premature forum. This is pregnancy 4, longest is 31 weeks, so they don't expect me to go to term (I was told they should have been ready for me last time). They're putting me on a progesterone gel from 16 weeks that will help prevent me going into labour, but when baby is ready to come it will. I don't really know whether to be optimistic, Tink did well because I had a "healthy" (except the Hughes, but that was treated) pregnancy so she was a good weight. My hope is that the ACT will keep my pregnancy healthy and the Progesterone will keep me going long enough to have a healthy baby.

LittleMissNorty · 09/07/2008 08:23

Hello all

Well the secret is out here as well.....told colleagues at work yesterday

btw Singing, nucal scans have to be done between 11 and 13.6 weeks - does that fit in with your trip? I'm very lucky and get one on the NHS in my area.

rosieposey · 09/07/2008 09:06

Good morning everyone Its bucketing down here and i really dont feel like doing the Tesco run this morning!
Tink is your consultant optimistic about you going further in your pregnancy this time? Hope so and will keep everything crossed for you - cant conceive of what it must be like having babies before they are meant to come out and the worry of getting them to a stage in hospital where they are ready to come home. Ohhh is kind of exciting thinking about being a quarter of the way at 10 weeks though - i still wont believe it till im there ( two and a bit weeks to go ) Looking forward to all the good stuff though like kicks and big bumps

Newb · 09/07/2008 09:08

AAArgh, please remind me that I can't expect to feel 100% all the time. I've got off quite lightly so far, bit of nausea and tiredness, but I can't seem to take things easy (which I am doing) without feeling bad. Note to self, feeling rubbish while at work is not a sign of weakness.... I do not have to continue at full steam to prove myself....

Can you tell my mum's a teacher, so never had a day off school for anything!

Right, back to it!

imaginewittynamehere · 09/07/2008 09:18

Morning all. Hope everyone is doing ok. Am feeling soooo tired, can just about make it to 6pm when DH gets home then I collapse in a heap on the sofa. I've been in bed at the same time as dd (8:30) every night. I truly don't think I was this tired with dd certainly shows that full time with a toddler is more tiring than full time work I think.
Looking forward to 12 weeks, I truly hope I have more energy by then.

Still no sign of a scan date (should be early August) I just want to know when it is so I can look forward to it properly iyswim - plus I need to get my mum or dad to come over & look after dd so the more notice they have for work the better too.

LittleSarah · 09/07/2008 10:23

Phone up about scan! Honestly, I know my date because I phoned a week ago and they said then they would send a letter... no letter has arrived. So they may have booked you and just not told you yet.

Newb - you can't expect to feel 100% all of the time! I'm going out tonight for some drinks and really not looking forward to it. Despite the fact been mainly in recently. Partly it's because I'm feeling lazy and partly because it'll mainly be a section of df's friends he doesn't see much so I hardly know them. Oh well, I'm dragging him to Mamma Mia! at the weekend .

I'm not getting a nuchal scan, but remind me, what is it for again?

LittleSarah · 09/07/2008 10:24

PS imaginewittynamehere - my appt should have been about 20th of July... and am going on the 5th August.. boo hoo.

MarkStretch · 09/07/2008 10:50

Just rang my surgery and they think the midwife books me in for my nuchal scan but they aren't sure. Hmmm.....

I will investigate, but haven't heard from the hospital.

DD still off school unwell so I am trying to work from home and answer questions about the nightgarden and make toast whilst on the phone and doing paperwork.

dinkystinky · 09/07/2008 11:52

Markstretch - poor you! Hope DD gets better soon.

Still no sign of a scan date for me - after numerous calls, hospital insists they dont have referral letter, GP insists he sent it on the day I saw him (over 2 weeks ago). After alot of persuading, the GP is refaxing the letter over as an urgent referral and am probably going to spend the afternoon on the phone to the hospital to ensure they dont lose it again. What a nuisance!

Imagine - definitely call up to find out about your scan. I wouldnt have discovered the levels of bureaucratic nonsense preventing me getting a scan date if I hadnt called up to find out...

PinkTulips · 09/07/2008 12:03

well with ds i marched down to the hospital and accosted the bookings lady in person as i needed an earlier scan to date the preg and they booked me for 22 weeks. there's alot to be said for the personal approach if you're having trouble with getting appointments, they're usually fairly desperate to get the angry, crying pregnant woman out of their office

has been raining since 6am here so yet another day of the poor kids being housebound i'm losing the will to live

oooggs · 09/07/2008 12:05

little sarah - I'm not having a nuchal scan either - and I don't know what they are for!

PinkTulips · 09/07/2008 12:15

they check for indicators of downs syndrome... usually only offered to women over 35 or otherwise at high risk of having a downs baby
