Okay this is for all you feel sickly today. I read (somewhere yesterday) women can "loose" weight during the last month of pregnancy due to the following: nausea returning, lack of appetite, and diarrhea. All three of those symptoms are caused by the body eliminating all unnecessary stuff to make birthing easier. On the flip side some can experience constipation due to baby settling lower and pressing on bowels in negative way.

Where's the beauty of pregnancy??????

Ann, odd but sometimes baby presents head down then flips. That could have been what happened with your friend. The reverse is also a possibility and upsetting for women who have CSec only to find baby was correctly presenting.

As for bags, I think we've all at least started and some are ready and waiting. I'm packed!!

Sazzles -v. impressed with quiche. Are you passing round slices on here?

It's good news about the scan Sarahn--I had midwives tutting over my fundal measurements throughout both of my last pregnancies, muttering darkly about big babies, and they were big articles but it's definitely a dodgy art and certainly not key to working out what will happen with the birth.

Here in Ireland nobody has tried to measure the bump at any stage, even though the care is more hospital oriented, and you'd expect more measuring because of that. There isn't even a graph for it in my A4 sized pregnancy notes. Of course, I have no idea what it's like to have small babies but I think there is a fair amount of scaremongering about the big sort. Anyway, it's generally a relief not to have any charts to be disappearing off the end of ...

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only cloth nappy obsessive. I can't quite understand why I've got so attached to the totsbots we've had for DS2, but it dawns on me that anyone using cloth might want to try fleece wipes as well. I got mine last time on ebay and they are fab. Thrown in the wash with the nappies they save loads of time and money ... And fab for noses too.

DD's 'baby in my tummy' popped out for a chat today. She's called Keka apparently...
She's went back in for a while though so a few more weeks of baby-free life here at least.

Sibh · 02/07/2008 16:27

Aaah--'she's went back in'. Must proofread properly!

Also forgot to send best wishes to Dizzy and family and to Cyteen.

And VG--I hope the crutches (and Minstrels) are helping ...

AnnVan · 02/07/2008 16:29

AAh - my thanks all. personally am terrified by idea of breech baby/possibility of cs. Really don't want Csec, the idea terrifies me. ( I've always been really helathy, and never had surgery or even so much as an x-ray. Anyone out there had csec, what was it like?? Anyone having elective cs?

AnnVan · 02/07/2008 16:33

My sister is also pg due roughly same time as me. She took her DD (aged nearly three) to the detail scan with her. She told the sonographer 'first you look at the baby in mummy's tummy, then you look at the baby in my tummy' will she ever live it down? I think her parents will be reminding her of that when she's 18/ get's married etc.

sarahnh · 02/07/2008 16:37

Sibh another Irish lady, i was born and bred in Dublin but have lived over her for 12 years so i guess here is my home now, although what i would do for a constant supply of irish cabury's chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TwilightSurfer · 02/07/2008 16:38

My DD talks about the baby in her tummy too. It's just their precious way of being more like the person they love most....MOMMY.

alittlebitshy · 02/07/2008 16:40

annvanThere are several of us who have had sections before and some of that number are due to have electives (in my case 3 weeks tomorrow!!!). Ask any questions you want - we'll do our best.

Had another funny moment earlier -felt really woozy etc. Have thus just been on sofa for past 3 hours - dh went and collected dd from school for me, thank goodnes, and he's just taken her over to Rainbows. Had some discomfort near where my c-section scar was and was panicking, but after I dozed off and woke up it felt ok, so I think I'm just tired, and.. er... pregnant.

alittlebitshy · 02/07/2008 16:41

Is Irish cadbury's choccie different then sarah? In what way? mm chocolate......

ChaCha · 02/07/2008 16:44

i often thought of using real nappies but really haven't a clue, is it hard work? I will have 3 under 3 all in nappies i guess and need easiest option.

Still feeling shite. What can i eat? Dont even fancy junk!

abs - Sometimes a bit of rest really helps. I keep texting DH to see where he is even though i know he is still miles away and has a customer to see on way. I just want to get in a warm bubbly bath and close my eyes.

AnnVann - I had a water birth planned with DS1 [sniggers at self] but i ended up being induced, failed to progress and 23 hours later had an emergency section. I thought i was alright at the time but i really wasn't and when the SPD kicked in this time last year with DS2 and all these niggles i decided an elective was to be what i would have. I couldn't bear anymore pain and for me personally i couldn't have had a better delivery. All went v.smooth, baby handed to me instantly, lots of bonding and a happy old me. I will have another section just waiting a week tomorrow to get my date.
I will have had 3 sections, 2 laparoscopies, appendicitis etc.. so no stranger to surgery It is ok.

ChaCha · 02/07/2008 16:53

OH and like Sazzles said, staff were also fantastic from start to finish.

Thanks all, it's not really that I'm determined to have a totally natural birth, I'll do what's necessary, but the idea of being cut open just terrifies the hell out of me Don't much like the idea of epidural either - needle in spine yikes, guess I'm just a coward at heart

Sibh · 02/07/2008 17:00

Handing round Irish cadbury's for all to taste. Yes it is much creamier ...

Hope you're feeling better Albs. There seems to be a lot of wooziness going round at this stage. Are the leg cramps still bothering you or have they eased off a bit?

Sarahnh--I lived in Dublin for a year in the nineties, and grew up in England with Irish parents. In West Cork now and settled here for good near my sisters who are all round and about too... Are you still going to use the name Tess (it's on your list details) by the way? Me and DH both love it but put the name aside as it doesn't quite go with the other two.

Chacha it sounds as if that would be a lot of nappies. I've found it's fine when you're in the swing of doing the nappies as part of your routine, though it's not for the v. squeamish. I got on a lot better with it when I stopped soaking the nappies and used paper liners instead. The draining of the buckets was the vile bit. All the used ones I have are still shiny white so getting them clean isn't an issue.

Hmmm.. are the long posts giving away the fact that DS and DD have been deported taken out by daddy for the afternoon?

cyteen · 02/07/2008 17:07

AnnVan I think there's a few ladies on here who are having or considering sections for various reasons, and certainly some who've had them with great success in the past. I know what you mean about not wanting one - I am keen to avoid a hospital birth if at all possible - but they don't have to mean a less positive experience from what I'm told

I'm measuring big for dates as well (measuring 34 but am 32), but like others on here I don't think it means that much.

My bag packing hasn't started yet, but I have got pretty much everything I need for it. Have spent some time squaring things away in the spare room, so now have a chest of drawers stocked with clean tiny clothes and nappies boxed up at the side awaiting use.

Soothing hugs to Shazza and ChaCha - get yourselves tucked up, ladies, and get some good rest.

alittlebitshy · 02/07/2008 17:32

Argh - all this food sharing, I feel like i'm the only one turned up to a party without something

sibh - ooh you;re having a nice free afternoon. Lovely Thanks for asking about the leg cramps. They're still happening,. In fact after a bad night last night sleepwise I just rounded off the experience as the alarm wen toff by leaping out of bed yelling cramp, as I had cramps in both upper legs. Ow. Dh did ask if I was ok .

sarahnh ooh that sounds yummy. My face cadbury's (boring old enlglish version) is the turkish delight one. yum yum.

annvan I had an emergency c/s with dd. Basically I was induced (was overdue, but bp went up suddenly... I since realised it was cos ob had threatened an internal so I was freaked by that - normlly then, and this pg, my bp is fine), started having contractions 3-4 mins apart within 30 mins, this went on..... I dilated... it went on....36 hours later I started pushing, but she wasn;t coming. Decided she too big, so did em c/s then rather than struggle on and have her or me get distresse. Was all fairly relaxed and nice (though I so don't remember much - extreme knackerisation by that point). I decided this time to request an elctive since second babies are often bigger, and I do not want the same experience again. Hopefully I will not be as shattered, not going through all that labour etc, and will start the parenting process in a betetr frame of mind than I did after all that tiredness..... I'm not sure I felt happy again for many many months

Dh and dd will be back from rainbows in a mo (dh didn't stay and play - though am sure he's have loved it!!). Will be a cheats dinner tonight. Fresh pasta and shop bought (y'know the fresh stuff) pasta sauce. The pasta is known as the pasta that dd likes in this house, cos she calls it "the pasta that I like" .

Wonder how bealcain is doing. And assume that as her dh manged to type message on Fb that his sight was slightly better. Hope so, the poor things - the pair of them.

oopsacoconut · 02/07/2008 17:38

ALBS - your face is turkish delight???
just doing a quick catch up back in a bit

alittlebitshy · 02/07/2008 17:40

oh pants - me and my typing proofreading . that's like my bixes of breastpads isn't it?????
