sorry

gubbed - worn out/tired/knackered
wheeched - to move quickly/nip out
fanny - fanjo/foof/front bottom

there in lies your Scots/English lesson for the day - practice please as I will be testing you later on

if in any doubt always make it sound like you're trying to clear your throat to spit

TwilightSurfer · 27/06/2008 14:08

Bigboy, do yourself the best favor of all...don't over-think the birth. Each birth experience is different. Make up your mind to "go with the flow." If you want an epidural then ask for an epidural. Often times written birth plans are a document for emotional disaster as you can put too much hope into them and if things don't go accordingly you feel robbed. Just relax and breath deeply and remember whatever happens in the end you will have an incredible baby.

Captain, if you were able to do well with a manual breast pump with DS1 then I'd say that should work this time as well. The high end electric ones have wonderful bells and whistles that benefit folks (like me) who have milk issues (like let down problems). I'd say first it's a choice based on need (what you need it to do for you) then it's an issue of cost (electric being more expensive than manual).

Dizzy, it's only 9am here am I totally gubbed (even after going back to sleep for an hour). Fanny feels like it's falling off most days leaving me no option but to sit so I can hold it in place. Plans to wheech out later but will check back to see if I passed my first Scots/English lesson.

Buckets · 27/06/2008 14:26

Haven't achieved anything today as I came down with a migraine as soon as I'd finished my last post on here! DS has been an angel all day.

Bigboy re birthplans: I'm having an elective Section but am thinking of doing a birthplan for just in case I go into labour naturally and decide to just go for it (well, you never know!) Some things I've learnt are:

  1. Don't ask me questions during a contraction (you need to shut off your rational brain)
  2. Don't break my waters unless absolutely necessary
  3. Don't cut cord until it has stopped pulsating (good for baby apparently)
cyteen · 27/06/2008 16:25

At home! On sofa! Watching Deal or no Deal!

Took DP out for lunch at Pizza Express, which we both thoroughly enjoyed Then he went back to work and I went shopping for baby bits in Boots. I am now equipped with:

maternity pads (mmmm, bricks of glamour)
cotton wool
arnica tablets
Infacol
sterile gauze
micropore tape
washable breast pads

No bloody Lansinoh though, grr! And I must confess, I did indulge myself in the baby clothes section with a completely unnecessary but completely irresistable purchase of three front-opening sleepsuits with cartoon monsters on them

To top it all off, I got home to discover a free copy of Grazia addressed to my landlady had come through the letterbox! I don't usually go in for crap mags, but right now, celebrating my leisure, it's just what the doctor ordered.

VintageGardenia · 27/06/2008 16:26

I am too gubbed to wheech.

Appt this am with midwife sitting in for consultant, she's nice but hassled today because some tulip father-to-be starting ranting and raving about the appointments getting backed up and he'd been there for 20 mins etc etc and when were they going to get seen etc etc. He was stalking around making loud calls on his mobile while his preg missus sank down behind her rumpled copy of Hello!

Anyway all ok except the old SPD for me too, and she's also predicted a big baby, although I am measuring my weeks - not sure how that works. Am shortish at 5'2 so if the babba's big that I suppose makes spd less surprising. However BP and all that fine so we'll just get on with things as much as possible.

I second Buckets's list re. birth plan, another thing I would add if it's not standard in your hospital is that you want the baby put skin to skin with you straight after birth. I know with DS that didn't happen & I really wanted it to.

Envy to those finishing work. Another couple of weeks here.

cyteen · 27/06/2008 16:49

Oh, forgot to mention that Boots are doing BOGOF on own-brand facial cleansing wipes at the moment. I bought some for my hospital bag on convenience grounds. I hate having a dirty/sweaty face, so at least I know one part of me will feel fresh

Does anyone else think they will really miss the sensation of their baby moving around once the little ones are born? From being quite freaked out by it at first, I love it now, seeing the swish and wobble and feeling the shifting about. It's undemanding company

I will never say 'i am going to have a quick catch up' during any quiet time. You guys can really talk and I just can't keep up!

LMAO, my mum is Scottish and some of those words i noticed as they were highlighted had me in hysterics. Brought back memories of childhood annuals called 'The Broons' and 'Oor Wullie' Remember those DD?

Braved blood tests this afternoon - hoping iron levels are not too low, should find out next week at m/w appt.
Saw physio for SPD and apparently have it on opposite side to last year's pregnancy, pelvis was realigned once again and told to go back next week to learn exercise Think i'll be booking in with osteopath again.

Sorry to hear about some of the appts that have been had. Hope you're all feeling ok now.

Have not even thought about a hospital bag!! I guess as i'm having an elective i've not really thought about possibility of needing to have a bag ready at door. I guess i should have a few bits to hand..or will end up stuffing babygrow and nappy into pocket on way out, far cry from DS1 prep where Samsonite Weekend Bag was packed and ready at door by weeks 30 and full of pampering treats and lovely things.
Newborn will be sleeping in with me so nothing to prepare house wise i guess.

Anyone else unprepared?!?

oopsacoconut · 27/06/2008 18:37

Hello All

Sorry I missed out on feeling Dizzy

Hope everyone feeling better after horrible appoinments.

I had an okay GTT today. After not eating since 10pm last night i turned up for my first lot of bloods at 8.45 is instructed and they were already 30 minute late! So duely bled, measured, heatbeat listened to and fed crappy oranged flavoured sludge. Walked out the door and parked said orange sludge in the fresh clean bin!!! was made to go and drink more, told to rest and come back in 2 hours so went to work collected boy, drove back to m/wife (45 minutes in each direction)new midwife this time - she refused to accept that my right arm has NO workable veins and she would have to use the second vein in my left arm. 4 Attempts on right arm and small crying boy saying 'stop hurting my Chrissie' finally persuaed her to change arms and use the vien I suggested!! Hey ho one stab and she had her blood. Then to make it up to small boy she let him run the doppler and Find baby's heartbeat. Told to go and have lunch then come back for other bloods - Iron etc... I said not on your nellie it's now or we don't do it!! So she took them there and then - I smiled sweetly and left. She then noticed my limp and made me go back so she could check pelvis - mild SPD - keep my legs together!!! I said it's a bit late for that - she had NO sense of humour!

Only 4 weeks of work left then yippeeee maternity leave - although i wish i had taken it sooner.

Will try and catch up more later when wee beasties are in bed - I doing my very lastest overnight at work -

oopsacoconut · 27/06/2008 18:47

OOOH sorry just realised I wrote as much as War and Peace!!!!

Buckets · 27/06/2008 19:08

Well done standing up for yourself there Oops, I probably would have had spent the whole day fannying about at their beck and call.

dizzydixies · 27/06/2008 19:13

oops am always available if you feel the need

chacha what do you mean remember them, sometimes I fell my family ARE the farking Broons, esp when we go enmass to a wedding/christening etc

ts & VG gold stars for you both for effort and use in correct context

sazz you get a must try harder although am loving DD's style re the library

buckets hope your head is better soon - sending lovely cooling soothing thoughts to your forehead

bealcain hosp?!? A&E?!? what have I missed

has Sarahnh been on re her rash?

been having lots of movement today which is good after a pretty slow one yesterday. Girls have me demented so dh now in charge - made tea of a usual favourite - creamy pasta with parmasean/chicken/peas but didn't have frozen peas so used tinned garden peas and needless to say it looked like a pile of green sludge and wasn't eaten

also bought pots of rice pudding instead of custard so am not in favour tonight at all

quick update on mammydixie, doc has been out to house to see her and put her on strongest pain killers you can get without being in hops, she's still weak/faint/bleeding so if no improvement in morning into hosp with her - all sounds horribly serious and am sorry I shouldn't have mentioned it at all, she has been sick for a long time now - thank you for all your lovely thoughts though

ChaCha · 27/06/2008 19:40

DD - Sorry to hear about your mum, i now remember your early postings when i was able to log in more. Hope hospital not necessary. Thinking of you.
LOL at the Broons Family, there was always an annual under the Christmas tree from my mum's relatives when i lived there - fond memory.

Oops - Well done you!

Forgot to mention the date 08.08.08!!!! Physiotherapist was more interested in this than anything else. Told me to twist consultant's arm to get elective on this date and was v.excited about it. Hadn't even crossed my mind! Had to laugh at her genuine excitement though!

dizzydixies · 27/06/2008 19:44

chacha tis a great date as then dh/dp has NO farking excuse

I remember being in threatre having dd1 and looked at the clock at 23:30ish telling them to hurry up as I wanted her out that day
the nice wee trauma nurse was saying - oh you're alright you'll not be doing this another day

at which point I announced I wanted her born on 7th of the 7th so dh might manage to remember it

bealcain · 27/06/2008 19:58

Chacha.....i'm loving my EDD of all the eights but it;s never gona happen.....hey ho!

DD DH had a groinal hernia repair 4weeks ago, was off for 3weeks and then got conjunctivitus (?) in both eyes so has had another week off. still cant see and trip to A&E was coz he's cncerned he still cant see after being on 4different sorts of eye drops for the past week. told it's a very bad case so dont know how long till it clears up. i did wonder why he said i looked beautiful today!! lol it's been a help having him off meaning i haven't had to take both ds to hospital with me, but that's about it as he can't actually help out or watch that they're not killing each other as he's blind.....aaaahhhhh

anyway on the plus side, i'm having contractions. i fell down the stairs with ds2 this morning and have since been having contractions, no bleeding or loss of any sort, but had a warm bath to see if they go away and they haven't so who knows i may have inadvertantly bought on d-day

dizzydixies · 27/06/2008 20:06

FFS what are you like - with your very casual announcement of my dh is blind, I fell down the stairs AND i'm having contractions?!?!?!?!?!?!?

a warning next time please!!!

are you in any pain, are you ok? have you phoned the m/w?

{{hugs to dh}}

bigboydiditandranaway · 27/06/2008 20:09

thanks for your messages twighlight and buckets as soon as i know what position the baby is in nearer to the time i'll then have more of an idea about the birth, lots to consider, but yes a lovely bundle at the end

Bea - you have a wonderful sense of understatement!!! Have you spoken to your m/w - if not and contractions still going on please ring her - or we can get the MN nag encouragement team on you until you do.

Dizzy - Hope all goes well with Mamadixie and she dosen't need the hospital. Your dinner sounds yummy my lot LOVE anything that looks abnormal - we add mushy peas to macaroni cheese to make macaroni sneeze!!! Tonight we had 'parents are away and friends to sleep over tea' Hotdogs, chips followed by icecream and flakes, then mlkshakes, popcorn and a movie (high school musical for the 56th time)

Cyteen - nice to see one of us late ones finally getting things together - DH suddenly realised this morning if GD is confirmed they will induce at 38 weeks - 6 weeks until we could have our baby! He finally decided we need to decorate and get things in place.

dizzydixies · 27/06/2008 20:33

pmsl @ macaroni sneeze - brilliant!!

was supposed to be beef stroganoff but ran out of time before tea

poppy was in St Andrews grinning inanely at all pregnant women again incase it was you

bealcain · 27/06/2008 20:37

i haven't as yet, am waiting to see if they develop into anything, could just be a case of the ol' BHs. if i cant sleep i promise i'll ring them.

still no leakage or show so am pretty confident it's not,. but we'll see what the night holds for me.

it's not understatement i just reckon it;s coz i'm a pro now!!

love the macoroni sneeze too, will seriously have to try that with ds's
