Hi July Mum's. Been busy the past week or so with vistors but have caught up on e'ones progress and am glad to hear how e'one is doing.

To join in the weight discussion ... at last visit I was 17 weeks and had put on abt 5kgs which sounds like a huge amount compared to other Mums to be out there ! Mind you, I know that I do put on weight as in my last pregnancy, I went from 52kgs to 76kgs !!!! HUUUUUUGE and it was painful to lose which I did manage . This time I am abt lighter, but still weight is piling on and I know that my inability to curb my yearning to eat , anything, is contributing !

I am also now feeling movement from baby which although not new still feels incredibly exciting and thrilling !

Yes Pamina - stats on us July Moms would be good. I keep forgetting dates and number/sex of babies/kids everyone has already.
I actualy work near Fleet Street - hopped on the Central line at Chancery Lane to Bond St. Dotty P is at Bond St tube - speedy shopper - back at my desk in hour and a quarter!!

Suffering badly with sciatica -hobbling around which is hard with two such little ones.

Can anyone recommend something to deal with my dry, flaking skin on my face. It is really, really bad... oh and blotchy too - so something for sensitive skins would be good... PLEEEEEEASE!?

hoxtonchick · 10/02/2005 15:55

hello all,

i am so with you mommyd on the mood swings - i am mean to ds sometimes & feel soooooooooooo bad (dp can stick up for himself....). it's been a bit better in the past couple of weeks (i'm 18+4 now) so fingers crossed.

not too much else to report. dp felt the baby moving a couple of days ago which was exciting, i'm getting big proper kicks now. we've just spent a couple of days in amsterdam without ds which was lovely, really relaxing. back to the fray now!

Afternoon all. Not much to say but just wanted to say hi .

I have spots and dry skin too, it's driving me mad. If anyone has any idea how to get rid then let me know!

merglemergle · 10/02/2005 16:17

Haven't posted for a while. Visitors etc then admitted to hospital with bleeding. Baby is fine though, and hospital seem unconcerned that I have lost loads of blood so hey.

I am dutifully eating lots and lots of chocolate to keep my iron levels up.

Had a scan today-baby completely fine-but miserable radiographer refused to tell us if girl or boy because that wasn't the purpose of the scan.

Fed up with maternity clothes. They are basically too big but the only clothes that fit. I cannot find a source of nice, cheap tops.

Anyone else been looking at double pushchairs? VERY tempted by Phil and Ted's-but 3x the price of your basic mothercare double...but I walk about 6 miles a day (no car, nursery 3 miles away) minimum so maybe can justify...

Bagpuss30 · 10/02/2005 16:23

Hi Mergle, hope you are OK now.

I have P&T's buggy and am wrestling with the idea of doubles kit for journey to nursery in Sept - it is a lot of money - I am still reeling with the shock of purchasing 12 months ago but it is very cool. I had Urban Detour before hand and found that that was better for pavement walking - very smooth to push and seats decent for toddlers. Can't comment on P&T's yet, only in single mode.

I bought some maternity tops from Mothercare. Plain cotton stretch with a scoop neck and long sleeves. Don't swamp me and are also only £10 each.

OP posts:
merglemergle · 10/02/2005 16:48

Mothercare stuff doesn't actually seem too bad. I think when pg with ds it was just so awful that I tend to avoid it but I just realised that ALL my materinity clothes that I actually wear come from there. So I suppose I'd better check out their tops...

Isn't the P+T doubles kit only about 50 pounds, once you have the basic model?

How is it for lightness & steeing?

Mergle, doubles kit would only be £50 but then there's the rain cover for about another £20 and as ours is the V1 model (looks the same but has different fixings for doubles) I will have to import it from NZ adding another £30 to the bill!! It steers OK but there is a very nasty bit of pavement near the nursery here and I always get caught out by the camber as it is very free-wheeling! It is great off-road though, although I am a bit worried by the height of the newborn bed, which is low - dh won't buy me another though so it will have to do!

MergleMergle, hope all is well, scarey stuff. Must have been a relief to see all was well in the scan. I hate miserable sonographers ( or whatever they're called) sure they're human & may have had a shit day, but it's silly not to tell you the sex.
I have been saved the maternity wear dilema for now, a good friend in Queensland posted down a whole bunch of tops that actually look OK. We're heading into Autumn here so I'll need some warmer gear eventually. So far the belly belt with jeans is doing me proud.
Good luck to all those with pending scans...

Lolasmum · 11/02/2005 12:55

Hello all. Haven't posted for a while as first dd was ill and I had to attempt to work from home then I've had flu for the past 7 days. First day at work in absolutely ages today.

Poor you Mergle, what a shock that must have been.

I've started thinking about a double buggy but the size of them puts me off. I'm hoping that since dd will be almost 3 when I have this one that she'll be OK just with a buggy board. I'll try and get a 2nd hand double for emergency use. Not sure what I think about the Phil & Ted. The baby at the bottom won't get much of a view. Dd was a nosy parker right from the word go!

As to the weight issue, I'm 18 weeks today and have put on 3.5lbs. Bump definitely looks a lot bigger in the evenings then it does in the morning.

I haven't got my next scan until 23 weeks at Kings. Seems like ages to wait. We still don't know whether to find out the sex or not. Didn't with dd, but maybe it would help us to prepare dd if she knew what she was having on the sibling front. Everytime we mention babies she gets very angry. Well, got 22 weeks to talk her 'round....

webwoman05 · 11/02/2005 16:12

End of the week! Hurrah! Hope everyone is doing OK.

Merglemergle - so sorry to hear about your bleed but so pleased that the scan must have reassured you. Keep eating that chocolate!

We do sound like an attractive lot with our dry skin and spots! I seem to go from one week looking like a spotty teenager to the next with nice glossy hair and clearer skin! Dead Sea Magik is great for dry skin - you can use it all over your body. Really good value at less than £5 for quite a big bottle. It was recommended to me by a homeopath years ago when I suffered from really bad dermatitis all over my face. You can get it from Holland and Barratt, some department stores and even some branches of Superdrug. I've even used it on DS when he suffered with dry skin as a baby.

Babydot - We know for defo that this baby is a boy because of the CVS (invasive test testing for Downs etc - needle through abdomen) but when we had a 3D scan just before the CVS the doctor said he was 70% sure that this one was a boy. Had a feeling too. Not sure why, just did. Saying that with my first pregnancy they told us at our 20 week scan that we were expecting a boy. I think at Kings they are more likely to tell you (if you want to know) what sex it is at 20-23 weeks beause earlier than that they can make mistakes! Which I'm sure can be quite upsetting for some people. I personally didn't have a preference, just a nice healthy baby will do! DS1 is delighted that he is having a brother but only because his best friend has 2 brothers and he wants to be the same! He'll be 4 and half when the baby comes so quite a gap.

Luckily I won't have the dilemma of double buggies like some of you ladies but does anyone know what age buggy boards are meant to be up to or is it a weight issue (ds1 quite underweight although growing quite tall). He still has a habit of doing a runner from me at times but has got to the stage where he is too big for his buggy. Can be a prob sometimes as I don't drive, tend to get the bus mainly which is fine but not so good if I have a lot to carry. Tend to do a big shop with DH at w/e or internet shop but there always seems to be some shopping needed!

Can't wait to hear about your forthcoming scans -April seems so far away!

Good luck and have a nice weekend!

Hi Webwoman, is the Dead Sea Magik ok for children then? My dd has awful dry skin all over her body at the moment and nothing seems to get rid of it. I will look out for it if so.

As far as I can remember buggy boards can be used up to age 9 but it is ages since I had one (bought it and took it back cos it was so unstable on the back of our buggy) so I might be wrong.

I can't imagine what it's going to be like when dd starts nursery. She is generally OK for the walk one way but insists on being carried/using her buggy on the way back. I suspect she will be worse still after being tired out playing there. She is so different to her brother who has walked everywhere since he was nearly 3 with no problems .

Hope everyone has a nice weekend, Pamina, hope you have a nice birthday .

Ooh, get a take-away and spend the evening in! We were supposed to be going out this weekend and had babysitting lined up etc. We're not going now because we realised that its Valentines weekend and I can't be doing with busy restaurants and the like. Have a great time whatever you do.

Happy Birthday Pamina!

merryberry · 12/02/2005 18:41

Hello strangers, read your messages, hope all is well. Not that I'm shallow or anything, but all I have to say of possible use is: MommyD, try Neal's Yard Frankinsense for dry 'mature' skins. Doesn't irritate me and is all I can find to keep the flakiness under control.

We're settled in new house now, very lovely. Been working hard, bump aches. Can't wait for spring and more daylight. Have developed hollow legs when it comes to things with butter on/in, so must be gaining weight.

Am off to eat strawberries and havea quiet Sat night in with strawberries and my better half. (saldy, no direct connection between the two things!).

Hoping to stay awake for CSI New York. How glam is my w/e:-)

xx to you all.

AussieSim · 14/02/2005 04:04

So I'm having a boy! It was clear as day. The technician kindly pointed out the penis and testes. I already have one DS, but it was actually what I wanted.

I have a really bad cold at the moment - the worst time to have one, when you can't have drugs.

hoxtonchick · 14/02/2005 04:19

happy belated birthday pamina, long time no see merryberry & congratulations aussiesim. if you're feeling really grim i think you can take paracetamol - check with your pharmacist.

i'm doing ok, but we had some awful news this weekend. my cousin, who was 27 weeks with her first, developed pre-eclampsia very rapidly. she's in intensive care, but the baby died. i'm so sad for them. and scared too, for myself. but i feel selfish about that. am going to send a card, & on mumsnet's reccommendation call them up soon.

anyway, hope you all had better weekends. xx

Lolasmum · 14/02/2005 12:04

Thats horrible news HC. Can't be easy for you to deal with emotionally. Mixture of fear (for yourself), guilt (that you are OK) and being upset for your cousin. Poor you.

When I had to see the doctor last week with a temperature they said I could take paracetamal. The doc said that the only reason some people say you can't take it (and lots of other things) when you pregnant as no studies have been done to proove its ok. Doc said that for most drugs it was impossible to get the required no. of pregnant woman to take part in a trial.

As to the dry skin, when I first read the posts about it last week my skin was fine. Ever since then my face has become red, dry and scaly (I look gorgeous!) So, I'm off out at lunchtime to try and find some Dead Sea stuff....

Has anybody got anything romantic planned for tonight? Dh lost his job on Friday (it was on the cards - he worked for Allders at their head office) so hes at home today and has promised to have my tea on the table for when I get home tonight! He's got a 2nd interview for a new job this afternoon so please keep your fingers crossed. Trying not to get too excited as apparently they are seeing quite a few people.

Bagpuss30 · 14/02/2005 16:57

Hello Everyone, I'm just back from my scan .

Sonographer was lovely and chatty and baby was very healthy and also a BOY .

I'm quite excited at the prospect of getting all of ds's little outfits out of the loft again, well actually very excited .

Congratulations AussieSim on your boy (maybe we'll be able to start a virtual football team on this thread).

HC, I hope you are OK and of course hope that your Cousin makes a speedy recovery. It must have been very frightening for her . My sil had a m/c about a month ago and it is very difficult to know what to say or feel I agree.

Hope everyone else is OK - who has the next scan?
