Had masses of snow this morning and the school is closed much to ds's delight so will be out making a snowman in between blizzards. Not going out in the car as the radio advised not to.

whimsy - good luck with the scan. My friend had pre-eclampsia and it wasn't so bad the 2nd time round.

Glad I am not in labour just now - what a thought going to the hospital in this weather!

Lolasmum · 23/02/2005 09:32

Good luck for today Whimsy. There was an article in yesterdays Guardian saying that a recent study by Gt. Ormond St (I think) has shown that taking Folic acid throughout the pregnancy (not just 1st 12 weeks) can help prevent pre-eclampsia. I'll try and hunt on the guardian website later today and see if I can find it.

Lolasmum · 23/02/2005 09:45

Here's the Guardian article www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1419593,00.html

(sorry, I can never do this properly!)

whimsy · 23/02/2005 13:41

Well we went for the scan today and everything is ok
We did ask what sex it was but just our luck the baby was lying face down and she couldn't see. Blood pressure was ok and no protein in my urine, which I have had for the last 6 weeks so that's good news
Lolasmum im off to read that article now (im no good at links either)
Thanks for the support it does help

Bagpuss30 · 23/02/2005 13:43

Glad it all went well whimsy .

Hi Pamina, as time has gone by my symptoms are more and more like the ones I had with ds although initially I thought they were more like the ones I had with dd. Go with your gut instinct, it's probably right .

OP posts:
MommyD · 23/02/2005 15:13

Pamina3 - I have two boys already. I had no nausea with the first two pregnancies and felt incredibly sick 24x7 from weeks 6-14 with his pregnancy. On that basis it could be a girl. I am having the same cravings though, so on that basis number three could be a boy.
I was thinking that bump shape might give the game away (but I am not big enough yet to tell). With both boys I had compact bumps that were all out front. Friends having girls were more 'round' and less out front.
I have done the wedding ring tests (for a laugh) and it says girl this time. The needle test that I did when pg with ds1 (before I knew he was a boy) said I would have three children, B, B, G and in that order. But all that is surely a load of old baloney!!! I really don't care as long as bean three is a healthy, bonny baby!!

MommyD · 23/02/2005 15:21

... oh and I have no gut instinct with this one.

I did however have a dream that I was pg with a girl around about the time of conception. dh would love to find out the sex but I am determined not to. We were told at 12 weeks with both ds1 and ds2 because dh wanted to know. It's my turn now for a surprise and a bit of good old guessing!!

Lolasmum · 23/02/2005 16:26

Congratulations Whimsy.

Pamina - when I was pregnant with dd all my cravings were the same as you. I also went of spicy food. This time I'm craving curries and keep forgetting that chocolate even exists! Maybe that means I'm having a boy? I don't want to find out though. I want to play the guessing game right until the end!

merryberry · 23/02/2005 20:41

Pleased to hear your good news Whimsy.

I have not a clue what I'm having: don't get my 20 week scan til week 24!! And can't tell from any symptoms...our mad builder swears its a girl by putting his ear near my belly, does that count?

Does anyone have names? After an agony of indecision we've sort of reached Ada Louise and Rohan Vincent. Or Rohan John.

merglemergle · 23/02/2005 20:50

hello all. had 21 week scan today...its a girl! dh very very pleased. I'm fairly pleased and disapointed only because it will be harder to convince him to go for no 3. Baby fine but a bit small-not concerned as ds was at this stage and he was 8 1/2 lbs at birth.

Also-following unpleasent stay in hospital-told not to lift anything etc so thought it best to buy spiffy 3 wheeler phil & teds and use as single for now. Very very pleased with it-it is SO easy to steer.

Good luck with all upcoming scans people.

merglemergle · 23/02/2005 20:51

I love Ada Louise as a name btw.

And just thought I'd say-the Chinese gender predictor has been right BOTH times for me-and for two people at work. Spoooky...

I did strongly think I was having a girl this time though, and a boy last time.

Tessiebear · 23/02/2005 20:56

Mommy D - i had the same result from the wedding ring thing as you (have 2 DS's and am 22 wks pg with no.3) also the chinese gender chart says a girl and i have had round the clock sickness with this one (with DS's it was only in the morning) .... and guess what - its a BOY

whimsy · 24/02/2005 07:34

I hae done the wedding ring thing and it says a girl but im not convinced I think it's a boy . Whats the Chinese gender predictor?

Bagpuss30 · 24/02/2005 08:20

Merryberry, no we don't have any names yet - neither of us can think of one - might start a thread about that now I come to think of it.

Mergle, congratulations on your girl. I felt the same when I had dd, but I managed to convince dh eventually to go for a third . Glad to see you have bought the P&T's. You can join me in accessory hell now . I actually have just bought the travel system adaptor for mine. I'm really pleased with it as it fits the britax seat we already have so it gives us another option when out and about without having spent a fortune.

Tess, congratulations on your boy (you will be just like posh and becks now ). There must be a lot of boys thanks to TTC 11, if I remember rightly we got our BFP's in the same week .

whimsy, I don't have a link for the predictor thingy but I did put one on the last thread for the Bounty.com one which has also been scarily right for me too! There are loads of them out there but they give varying results.

MommyD · 24/02/2005 09:07

Tessiebear I don't really believe the old wives tales about morning sickness or the the wedding ring test or the needle test and the Chinese gender charts were right with one son but not the other. At the end of the day I will only know what I've got when I see it!!!

I reckon morning sickness gets worse the older you get!

Good fun guessing though.....!

Eulalia · 24/02/2005 13:37

mergle - congrats on your girl

whimsy - good news.

I thought that the first pregnancy was always different anyway as regards shape of bump as muscles are tighter and the baby can engage much earlier. Apparently 2nd and subsequent pregnancies the baby may not even fully engage till labour.

As for MS - well I wasn't bad with ds and quite bad with dd and was somewhere in the middle with this pregnancy - I am obviously older now and it wasn't nearly as bad as 3 years ago so don't let age put anyone off in that respect.

Had no feeling about previous pregs and really don't mind this time at all.

hnnappies · 24/02/2005 14:17

Hi All

Im sam and im already a mum of three girls and am expecting apparently a baby boy on the 2nd July. Im excited but scared as i havent had to bring up little boys before. Im also having lots of pelvic pain already which is making things hard as my eldest is only 4. I tend to have premi babies so im not sure when this baby will actually come though am looking forward to its arrival.

MommyD · 24/02/2005 15:51

Hi Sam - wow three girls and your eldest is 4, and you are pregnant. You must be busy! I thought I was busy with my two boys - 1.5 and 2.5 yrs!

The other thing with this pregnancy is that I am a lot more emotional - I fly off the handle in a second and burst into tears all the time. didn't have that in the first two.

Whimsy, I have similar concerns to you. I had threatened labour at 25 weeks with DS but held on till 35 weeks. I still can't talk about the delivery and the couple of weeks afterwards without getting teary and it was more than 2 years ago. I am 22 weeks now and all is going well, so I am hoping I will be luckier this time. I am working with a Naturopath and an accupuncturist to that end.

DH and I have settled on a name. It was the only one left standing after we crossed out all the ones the other one really liked. I was a bit dubious about it at first but it is growing on me now and I have started referring to him by name. It is Kai. It works well as my DH is german and our last name is so long. Our only concern is that DS will ask us why he got 4 syllables and his little brother got just one.

I have grown out of two maternity skirst already and am feeling really bad about constant urges to buy more and more maternity gear. Last pregnancy was in a german winter so I just stayed inside in the german equivalent of track suits (hausanzug). But now I am out and about in sunny Sydney and have quite an active social life. I am consoling myself by committing to sell it all on ebay when it is over (odds of talking DH into a third are slim and I can't be too pushy as I will be 36 when this one is born).

OzJo · 25/02/2005 08:03

Hnnappies...what does the Hn stand for Has Nuff? Hate Nasty....you must be living in the misddle of nappie hell with all those small offspring...good luck! I have one girl, and am apparently having a boy this time round. So far the best advice I've had is make sure you poke the willy into a downward position when you're puting on a nappy, saves soaking everything but the nappy.
Aussie Sim, feel no guilt...bad enough our bodies have to go through this weird expansion, I', sure it's all good for the baby in the long run.
Must go eat.

hnnappies · 25/02/2005 10:25

The HNnappies name comes from my first two girls Helaina and Natasha that got me into making reusable washable nappies that are called Happy Nappy Days nappies (the D in days comes from my third daughters middle name which is Deanna). So my user name kind of combines both.

I only have Gillian my youngest in nappies at the moment but because i also make them then yes i guess i am swimming in nappies -lol.Its a bit sad but i actully enjoy the nappies as they are so colourful and cute so its no hassle for me either dealing with Gillians or making ones for sale.

The only think i find about being a work from home mum of three is that you have to be quite organised but that you have to realise that your not always going to get work done when the girls are about or that the house isnt always going to be as imacualatly clean as you want it to be. At least with more then one they tend to play with each other as they get bigger which give you time to get some things done. When there small invest in a baby sling so you can get on and work and still look after them at the same time.

hoxtonchick · 25/02/2005 12:50

hi all,

just back from my scan - it's a girl! ds was right. i am very happy, grinning like an idiot. everything was completely normal on the scan, we were in & out in 10 mins. the scanners at the homerton are just fantastic - it was a nice reassuring bloke this time. we were 10 mins early for the appointment & they took us straight in - wow!

MiL has taken ds out for the afternoon & i'm meant to be working....

xx
