I'm only familiar from my own research 12+ months ago. In the end I really couldn't afford an MB as the replacement for our other 3 wheeler and I also wanted the flexibility of the second seat for when we decided to have baby 3. Anyway, here is my two penneth, Personally wouldn't bother with a carrycot unless I was having a winter baby as the regular seat does just as well and is less enclosed. I would spend the money on a lambskin liner (which you can use in the summer) and a UV/insect mesh which comes in handy when you want them to sleep in the garden in their buggy whilst you do the weeding . Also as the zip has only two seat positions I would imagine that this would make it difficult for a sleeping toddler as it would recline too far back - my two have always insisted that they sleep on a partial recline once their legs reach over the end of the buggy seat. When I was pg with dd I looked at an Easylife sport buggy and that also had sling seats (not sure if these are imported anymore now but they are another New Zealand make) and I concluded that they were too bucket like for a small baby for my liking, having said that, everyone has different priorities I suppose. HTH .

hello harriett, i'm going to the homerton too, they're fab. especially the scanning people. do you live in hackney? i'm due with no.2 on 10th july.

Harriett · 07/04/2005 11:54

Hi Hoxtonchick! Yes, I live in Hackney- but on the Homerton side, so it's not that far for me to waddle over to the hospital. I am due on the 14th July. I agree with you about the scanning people- I've had the same girl twice and she was really lovely.
so you're on your second? I can imagine it's quite hard work!

hoxtonchick · 07/04/2005 13:45

we're in london fields, not too far away. and can drive to the hospital in 10 minutes.... i am finding it hard work second time around, no time to indulge myself. but quite a few people on this thread are on their third so i'm a relative amateur! i'll look out for your when i have one of my many appointments (diabetes, high intensity ante-natal care. yay, lucky me...).

Harriett · 07/04/2005 14:00

Poor you!
I feel quite lucky that it's been OK for me so far, I have terrible back pain which I hope to ease by starting the antenatal yoga at London Fields this week- have you or anyone else tried antenatal yoga or is it a complete waste of money and will I just end up asleep in a corner?!!!
thanks x

is that the one on broadway market? not into that kind of thing personally, but i know lots of people like it. and it's a good way to meet other mums. i think swimming's great, it's just finding the energy to go. in fact, i've only been once since i've been pregnant. really should cancel my gym membership....

Bagpuss30 · 07/04/2005 15:13

Just wondering if any other 2nd or 3rd timers are having strong Braxton Hicks yet? I feel like I'm being shrink wrapped and the other night dh said he could see which side of my bump the baby was lying on - he was sitting on the other side of the room at the time .

BTW, ayone fancy starting a new thread yet?

Hi srangers and welcome Harriet.

From looking at the more recent threads everything is ticking over quite nicely for people. I hope you're all OK.

I've been beavering at end of job recently. They were unable to vary my hours or reduce my workload and as I'm still sick most mornings I've called it a day with three weeks leave now (left over from last year) and maternity leave starting at week 32.

Actually had a cracking last day yesterday. I took everyone who has worked for me in the last 18 months and managed to get them drunk and keep everyone out for over 3 hours. Impressive in our guilt-tripped, over-working public service environment.

Feel happy but weird to be away. Suppose I will keep checking to see if bits drop offa me now I'm a lady of leisure, pre-birth:-)

Got plans to waft in the sun in April and May and June looking at nice places like the chelsea physic garden and kew and hampstead. I've never been to these places except at w/ends so I'm interested to see how much more peaceful they might be.

See you more, I hope. xxfxx

dw and I regularly walk on Hampstead Heath / Kenwood etc. If you would like company, or want to scoff cakes in Kenwood's café, just shout. I'm a Friend of the Physic garden and if plants float your boat, it's a pleasant island in the madness of Chelsea.

Maybe a pg laydee walk could be organised for the Heath ? (I can stay at home and send dw out in my place, unless you bring associated bear grapplers with)...

merryberry · 09/04/2005 17:07

Oh, we're almost neighbours then? I'm in Kentish Town now. I'd love to have a walk sometime. Where are you both. Is this your first kid?

I've been to the physic garden twice but its been very busy. i'd love to learn more about it.

Have got to go and do something complicated with a newly acquired potato ricer. Ah, the domesticity of the non-working newbie mum-to-be.

hub2dee · 09/04/2005 19:30

Hi merryberry, We live fairly close - nearer Golders Green. I think you're one month ahead of us in your pg... dw is 23+4, so you must be quite a bit more sticky-outy than dw ! (Yes, it's our first)

Hope you're enjoying your first days of freedom away from work.

Not sure what day of the week they do it (I think every Sunday, but check) - but the Chelsea Physic offer a good guided tour. The garden is really fairly small, so it's not arduously long and it's pretty interesting.

A walk could be fun. Maybe even throw the invite open to the August thread too (we've been given 26th July and 2nd August as EDDs so I flit between),... Perhaps meet somewhere convenient for bus / tube / car parking, do some kind of circular walk via cakes / tea / coffee at the Café in the Heath ? Any day / time but Weds / Thurs for us.
