OzJo · 04/02/2005 03:35

It's a boy! Very chuffed, all healthy. I actually dreamt last night it would be a boy, coincidence I'm sure, as I have the psychic abilities of a fruit pastel. I actually spotted the willy before the scanner said anything! Dp is pleased, he was having visions of being out hormoned at every turn. They have reviewed my due date to June 29th...but I intend to stay on this thread, been here too long to swap now! Plus the next midwife will probably review it back to July....It's wierd to know, bit I'm pleased I do. I'll tell all my mates here in Australia, and keep it quiet to family in the UK, except my Mum, who really wants to know....Other than that, we had a shit day of banks fucking up money, and garages fucking up cars...such is life

pinkmama · 04/02/2005 03:39

Fantastic news ozjo! Well about baby, not banks . We found out with ds and I really liked knowing, it gave me a mid way boost. However think we won't this time, as dh prefers the surprise. Good luck keeping it quiet thought. Once we knew I just kept saying he all the time. FIL didn't want to know, but it just came out in the end!

hoxtonchick · 04/02/2005 08:19

pinkmama, what were you doing up at that time? hope ds is ok. xxxx

BabyDot · 04/02/2005 13:46

Hi Girls,

Got my mid-wife visiting me at home tomorrow for the first time, I am 17 weeks just wondered if I will get to hear the baby? Didn't know if any of you guys have had your home visit yet?

Bagpuss30 · 04/02/2005 13:57

What on earth is a home visit???? Babydot, you are very lucky to be getting that. Last time I saw a midwife at 16 weeks she took an armful of blood and weighed me and then told me to go! No proper check or anything. I was a bit miffed, but I guess that's what happens when you are on baby number 3 like me .

Ozjo, fab news about the baby but not about the bank or the garage, hope you managed to get it sorted out.

Hub2dee, hope you managed to get the sling, I am very they are lovely . My dh bought a babybjorn carrier when I was expecting ds and he wore it once when ds was about a week old, came back home gasping for breath and never did it see the light of day again . If you don't manage to get the sling though, I would have a look at Daisy Roots website. They have some little shoes designed by Bill Amberg which are very cute and a lot less expensive than the sling.

Hope you are all well, btw, just a flying visit as I don't have anything to report.

Eulalia · 04/02/2005 14:33

Congrats Malvern. Yes I would expect a small bump my then so you'll need your dress bigger round the waist.

pinkmama - hope you are feeling better now.

ozjo - glad you are pleased with your boy.

Homevisit?

Can I ask everyone how much weight they've put on so far? I am a bit worried as I've not put on any yet I am 15 weeks tomorrow.

hub2dee · 04/02/2005 15:00

Me, I've put on 5 kilos dw has hardly budged.

Bagpuss, the ebay price was not bad but I'm not sure the seller was kosher, you never know. I think at 80/90 quid (ie. cheap second hand / auction price if you can get it), it's not so much more than the fabric / Babybjorn ones, and if you use it for several kids... Surprised dh didn't like the feeling though - what was it about the carrier didn't he like ? Were the other models / styles you think might have worked ?

pinkmama · 04/02/2005 15:09

Hello HC - for some reason since starting with my assortment of virus's I have been waking up at 1.30is and unable to sleep for 2 hours, so have given up and taken to coming down for hot drink, so bad is my mn addiction i couldn't resist last night! Anyway hoping insomnia will pass soon and is due to sleeping during day and not a pregnancy side effect! Its lonely in the night. Never had sleeping problems in my life before!

Eulalia, if you remember we are exactly same dates, and I had put on half a stone, but have been so poorly with 2 seperate virus's back to back, that I have lost it again. Having said that I look no different to how I did last week, which was enormous. In fact friend has just been round now and couldn't beleive how enormous I am (don't you just love some friends). I always get big and put loads on in the early stages, but I also know a few people who hardly looked pregnant at all until really far into it.

Ds now has chickenpox (dd had them whilst I was pregnant with dd funnily enough), which on top of my dd's 5 day virus, my 6 days of illness, and now this is not helping my mood at all and I feel housebound and a bit stir crazy. Dh terrified he is next! My virtual company on mn is keeping me sane!

BabyDot · 04/02/2005 15:26

Well I am even more confused now then! he he he.

I thought it was normal for you midwife to visit you at home before the pregnancy, can you tell I am new to all this! he he he.

Well I will tell you guys tomorrow why she bothered vising on a Saturday confused? I am he he

Bagpuss30 · 04/02/2005 16:12

Hub2dee, dh just didn't like the fact he had to carry ds I think! Having said that I would have a look at the mn buying guides - the wilkinet is supposed to be one of the best - cheaper than the baby bjorn and more adjustable too. Feeling very tempted by a new sling now but dh going mad with me as I am trying to get hold of some optional extras for our pram which seem to cost a fortune, so maybe I'll have to wait.

pm, hope you are all feeling better soon

Eulalia, I have put on about half a stone I think, which is ok for me - by this stage with ds I had put on about 2 .

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 04/02/2005 19:06

i have no idea how much weight i've put on & i certainly don't intend to find out. lots & LOTS. i blame the insulin & my inability to walk past any bar of chocolate. i have a proper bump & have had for a while. oh, & i never lost all the weight i put on with ds either. in fact, i think i'll stop talking about it or i'll get miserable!

MommyD · 07/02/2005 15:32

Eulalia - I am 16 weeks and have only put on a pound so far. This is the same as my second pregnancy. I would expect my weight to start creeping up about now.....

webwoman05 · 07/02/2005 17:07

Seems a bit quiet on the July thread at the moment. I've been too busy being sick and still having nasty headaches - more like migrines with sickness as well as morning sickness! I went to the docs last week and he tested my blood pressure which was fine but I had sugar in my urine so I had a blood test to test for gestational diabetes - just got the result and everything is fine which is good news. Hope everyone else is doing OK.

Pinkmama - you've certainly had your share of being ill, insomnia and chickenpox too! Hope things start to improve. Chickenpox is certainly doing the rounds at the moment. My DS1 has supposedly had it (according to my doc) but he only had about 7 spots on his face. Hope he doesn't get it again (if he ever had it in the first place!)as we are planning a holiday in the next month or so if we can get our act together!

On the weight issue I think I have put on about 5lbs don't know if that is loads or not at this stage! I have definately popped out a lot quicker this time. Still feeling knackered though. No actual sickness now for nearly a week so maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. I can't wait to bloom!

I suppose some of you ladies will be preparing for your 20 week scans quite soon. Congrats on your boy Ozjo. As I had a CVS I know that I too am expecting DS2! Does anyone else know what sex they are having? Anyone else having a 23 week scan like me (apparently Kings do a 23 week scan rather than a 20 week scan - anyone know why?).

Good health to everyone!

xx

OzJo · 08/02/2005 05:01

I honestly have no idea what weight I've put on, haven't been weighed at any of my appts, quite glad not to know really, certainly got a proper bump now, and feeling a fair bit of movement, which is nice. Still tired, but no where near as bad as those first few weeks. I think the whole " blooming" bit is probably the generalised euphoria experienced when people emerge from feeling like throwing up the entire time...just hazzarding a guess...

BabyDot · 08/02/2005 09:08

Webwoman05 - Hiya, how exciting to know what your having, I can't wait to find out! I am registered at Queen Mary's but have a CVS scan myself at 20 weeks at King's so I don't think they stick to 23.

I have heard the scanning equipment it supposed to be really good at King's, is it soooo good you could tell you was having a boy he he he. So fingers crossed I should know at my King's appointment just another month to wait! Pregnancy definately makes you patient that is for sure.

Anyone bought their own doppler? they have them so cheap on ebay at the mo like £20, I am sooooooooooooooooooo tempted.

So webwoman05 did you know deep down it was a boy, did you get that feeling? I swear I am having a girl if it is not I think I will be be in shock, but happy either way of course, is it true that you just get a feeling?

Well as you can see I have started the work day as I mean to go on whoops! Right WORK!xx

Freckly · 08/02/2005 10:13

Hello all. Congrats to the house movers. Pinkmama, you've been having a rough time of it lately, I hope your insomnia settles down soon.

Ozjo, I agree with you about this blooming thing. I'm feeling the same as you, still feeling tired but nowhere near as bad as the beginning. Hoping that my tiredness will vanish with the brightening mornings & evenings

MommyD & Eulalia, I'm so relieved to hear that you've not put on any weight, coz I haven't either & was starting get worried that the baby is not growing in the way it should even though everything went well with my scan at 13 wks. A couple of pg friends (one of which is having her first baby, like myself), also due in July, have been putting on weight, have visible bumps & are feeling movements already & have been for a few weeks now. I have experienced none of the above (I am 16 weeks) so am really starting to fret. Do either of you have babybumps yet? My belly tends to look bloated/stick out in the evenings but has completely vanished again in the morning.

It seems to vary so much from person to person, how do you know what's normal & what's not?

Eulalia · 08/02/2005 10:28

If I remember correctly it said on babycentre.com I think the site is that you should put on between 26-36lbs at a rate of 1lb per week with 5lbs in the first trimester but that doesn't work out as there are 28 weeks in the 2 and 3rd trimesters so I am confused. I know I put 24lb and 26lbs on in my last two pregnancies so should be starting to by now. Am getting bigger so will see what the scales say next time I am at my parents.

Freckly - is this your first baby? I didn't feel any movements till I was 20 weeks - even wehn I was watching baby kicking the the scan! It wasn't till a few days after that I felt them. ds was quite small though. 2nd time round it was about 18 weeks I think but this time I think I have felt them already (am 15 weeks).

webwoman - glad everything went ok with your tests.

Eulalia · 08/02/2005 10:33

I looked it up - hope it reassures you Freckly ...

When should I start to feel fetal movement?
By seven weeks, your little embryo is already squirming about. But at this point it's so small you can't possibly feel its periodic contortions. In fact, it may be several more months before your baby makes his presence known to you. You may feel those first momentous kicks, called "quickening," anywhere from 14 to 26 weeks of pregnancy. The usual time frame is more like 18 to 22 weeks, though, especially for first pregnancies. Veteran moms tend to feel fetal movement earlier than first-time moms. Why? Uterine muscles are less taut, so a woman is more sensitive to soft kicking. Besides, if you've been pregnant before, you'll probably recognize the feel of a fetal kick, and can differentiate it from other belly rumblings, such as gas, for example. Bear in mind, too, that your build may have something to do with when you'll be able to distinguish a hunger pang from a left jab. Thinner women tend to feel movement earlier and more often than women who are overweight.

Bagpuss30 · 08/02/2005 10:55

Morning everyone .

LOL at Veteran mums! Makes me feel very old.

Queen Charlotte's guide says you should expect to put on about 10 lbs in the first 20 weeks, so I'm doing OK so far. I wouldn't worry much as it depends on how overweight you are to start with and also how easily you put it on anyway.

I also have a proper bump although the mat jeans that I am wearing today keep falling down which is annoying. I was lying on my back in bed this morning with my hand on my bump and actually felt the baby kick my hand which was really surprising. At least it has finally decided to move out of my pelvis and make use of its available accomodation .

Freckly · 08/02/2005 11:22

Thx Eulalia, what a star! Yes, this is my first baby & I am quite slim so hopefully, I'll start feeling movements around 18 wks then, or even 20 weeks (like yourself) rather than 22wks. I really hope so anyway as am really looking forward to feeling those first flutterings

Bagpuss, awwwwh at u feeling ur baby kick with your hand. Made me go all teary eyed!!!
Hormones, eh?!

Thx to you both for cheering me up

hub2dee · 08/02/2005 19:22

Hi all,

DW thinks we got the first kicks through this morning. Said she felt it was like it playing the drums in there !

AussieSim · 08/02/2005 21:07

I haven't found time to post for quite a while, but have been keeping an eye on here from time to time. So a bit of an update from me.

I am 19w 5d today and tomorrow I have the 'big' scan. I am really looking forward to it. We will be asking about the sex, which is what we did with DS and which will let me start really nailing down names and start to buy stuff. I am hoping for another boy and DH wants a girl.

I've put on a little over 5kg and baby has started kicking at last which is reassuring. I had my first Braxton Hicks contractions a couple of weeks ago, but since I've started taking magnesium with valerian tablets given to me by my naturopath I haven't had anymore (thank god) - I had threatened labour at 25 weeks with my first after a few weeks of braxton hicks, so you can understand my relief.

I've been working on getting my 2yo to sleep through the night again, after a bad patch with his eczema and I think we are getting there. I've lost a patch of hair through stress and have had a conversation with my DH about not feeling appreciated, which hasn't lightened my load but has made him more vocal with his appreciation and more supportive generally.

I feel happy that I am half way (theoretically), but I am still anticipating this baby coming early (DS came at 35 weeks). I am doing my homework into getting a hammock with premature and small babies are supposed to thrive in. That's enough for now probably.

AussieSim · 10/02/2005 00:45

Is it possible that I have killed an antenatal thread. That has got to be some kind of record!

OzJo · 10/02/2005 02:01

Aussie Sim,...it's OK threads not dead....hope you're having some luck with the 2 year old...alls well, then some form of illness comes along and buggers everything up again for a while. How was your big scan? Boy/ girl or legs crossed...
Freckly, some people have wombs that lie in such a way that it means the pregnancy doesn't show for ages...anterior? can't remember, some people get to 5 months then pop out in a fairly spectacular fashion. One thing I found really helpful was pregnancy yoga...I'm an unfit bastard but went along just to be around a bunch of other people with strangely shaped bellies...and it was great. Some people looked 9 months that were only 6, and some were 8 months and looked 5. It was really reassuring, one poor woman looked about 12 months pregnant, think that was twins.
Better go, Dp did the cooking last night..good meal but the kitchen looks like hell, and the general rule is whoever cooks gets off the washing up ( sigh)...

MommyD · 10/02/2005 09:53

Thread still alive!

Anyone else suffering with blotchy, spotty skin and dreadful, dreadful mood swings? I keep either shouting (screaming) for very little reason, or bursting in tears (again for very little reason).

Didn't have this with pg1 and pg2.... I am coming up 17 weeks. I invested in 2 pairs of rather nice maternity trousers yesterday - bought them at Dotty P. Went along Oxford St in my lunch hour - though John Lewis/Debenhams/House of Fraser would have some mat fashions, but they looked at me as if I was mad - what, maternity 'not in season'?????
