Katz, thanks for your email. I have replied but also said I would post on here my suggestion for luch tomorrow. Basically all I suggested was that at lunch we give our doatios to someone, and they send off 1 cheque to Katz, makes it a bit simpler. I'm happy to send a cheque.

April - glad the flowers got there safely and thankyou for passsing them on for us. Not sure if you caught up with the other thread but we are also going to club together to do something positive and pay for a midwife to be trained in the third world - Do you think sweetheart would like this?

PinkArjuna · 21/01/2005 19:06

I didn't even notice! My brain doesn't work anymore. I was wondering what you were all giggling at. I'd do the same - I rarely check my typing. On other boards I have been to you can edit.

Been DIYing all day. Think I am on the verge of putting my back out. New shelves and towel rail.
See you tomorrow - off to bed now completely exhausted.

Hope sweetheart got through the day hugs

bubbaloo · 21/01/2005 19:46

evening,
just wanted to say hope those of you meeting up tomorrow enjoy yourselves-i'll try and come to the next one.
sending lots of love to SH and dh.xx

megi · 21/01/2005 20:02

Evening all!
What a crap day. I've been feeling low since I read about sweetheart. Even though I didn't know her personally, I didn't realise what a support this group was! (I know I am repeating what has been said before - I feel the same way too though) I had also been worrying about a friend who has been bleeding lots at 16 weeks pregnant - but she has seen a consultant, and was told the baby is fine yesterday.
I have not had the same energy rush as lots of you! - and today it all got a bit much. I have cold, and have not slept much. Anyway, I bloody fainted during the afternnon at school . Thank goodness there was an adult in the classroom, or I would have been surrounded by hysterical 6-7 year olds. Feel quite bad cos they were quite frightened - bless them. I just stood up quickly - and that was it . I have been to the doctor and she has said to take it easy. Anyway - I guess you lot will know what I am going to say next - ....I really don't think a trip to London with a 3 year old would be a good idea tomorrow. This is just peachy timing. I was really looking forward to meeting you lot and I was also going to look for some maternity gear. I have actually been holding off for ages so I can enjoy the day tomorrow. I am absoloutely gutted, but after talking it over with dh, I really don't think it is a good idea. I am sooooooooooooo sorry. Please, if there is another one, can I still come? Please? Please? x

Uwila · 21/01/2005 23:58

aw megi, sorry you can't make it. but, of course we understand. take care of yourself. and, yes, I think another meet up would be a great idea. Anyway, I'm off to bed (if I can tear myself away from mumsnet).

Scraggyaggy · 22/01/2005 07:18

Megi - Sorry you're not going to be able to make the meet, but you have got to look after yourself and baby, there will be other meets I am sure! Perhaps late April would be a good time? And then of course, the babies will be here so we'll have to meet up again later in the summer!

Uwila - Were you going to tell us if you're having a boy or a girl? Someone had their scan last week... can't quite remember who....

Well, it is 7.15am, having my Ready Brek and a cup of coffee before I go get ready for our lunch meet! Luckily I naturally woke up at 6.40am this morning as I have to get up so damn early for work anyway. Am armed with a shed load of magazines and am ready for my exceptionally long train journey!! Pink and I are meeting on the train at 10.30am so at least we'll be company for each other from then. Am particuarly looking forward to seeing everyone. x

See you later!

Uwila · 22/01/2005 08:48

Yes, I had my scan on Thursday. But, with all of the sadness surrounding Sweetheart, I didn't feel right about advertising my good news. But, since you asked I guess it's okay to do it now?

Everything is fine with baby. It's a BOY. yippee! Now I just have toget DH to REagree to the name (Alexander). He up and declared on our way to the scan to he didn't like the name anymore. Then, Thursday night he agreed to it again. Who knows what he'll say today. I think DH has pregnancy brain.

teabelly · 22/01/2005 09:04

Uwila - fab a boy - I must admit I had a sneaky peek at the May thread as I know you post there too...but didn't want to say anything before...Alexander is a great name (well it's my brother's so obviously its great!!...ooh no pun intended ) Well just had my shower...getting ds up in a mo...yep 9am and he's still asleep!! ...only on a day when I need to be going somewhere . See you girls there...x

teabelly · 22/01/2005 09:04

Oh forgot to say...Megi - completely understand - hopefully see you at the next one, take care

welshmum · 22/01/2005 09:11

I had the most awful night's 'sleep'. Nothing to do with dd just pregnancy insomnia - loads of stuff going round and round in my head. Have had about 3 hours I think. Still going to the meet though - I'll be the totally knackered one! Looking forward to meeting you all.
Sweetheart - still thinking of you and what you've had to go through, I hope you find the peace and comfort you need xxxx

Mirage · 22/01/2005 09:32

Hi,

I keep thinking about poor Sweetheart & her family.

Congratulations on your scan & your little boy Uwila.Alexander is a lovely name.

We had our 20wk scan on Thursday too.I didn't feel like posting about it after reading about Sweetheart either.

I was very apprehensive about the scan, especially as we'd declined all the bloodtests & didn't have a nuchal scan either.Everything was just fine though-the scan seemed a lot clearer than with dd,nearly 2 years ago-I don't remember being able to see her fingers ect,but could see them this time.We didn't find out the sex-I desperately didn't want to know & was worried that I'd accidently see something that I shouldn't!DH on the other hand, thought that I'd weaken & change my mind as soon as they asked if we wanted to know.

We still can't ddecide on any names.I could
think of loads of names if it was just up to me-but DH manages to find somethinmg 'wrong' with all of them.Arghhhh!!!!!!!

I'd better get going-I have a friend from NZ visiting tomorrow, for a few days & the house is a bombsite.

Hope that you are all ok
Love
Mirage

bubbaloo · 22/01/2005 11:52

mirage-glad your scan went well
uwila-how lovely,a little boy and such a nice name too!

welshmum · 22/01/2005 15:30

Really lovely to meet some of you ladies, sorry for dashing off but I know dd's limits! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your lunch and please let me know if I underpaid - don't want to get a reputation.

Lua · 22/01/2005 16:12

Come on, welshmum and other southerner ladies, we northeners need more details than that....

Mirage, congrats on the scan!
Uwila, congratsin the scan and baby boy! I also sneaked on the Mauy thread . I tend to lurk around anyway since there is somesmall chance I'll be in with the May ladies.

Anyway, I was very interested on the debate about circuncision you started there, does any of the June mums havean opinion on it?

bubbaloo · 22/01/2005 16:16

hi lua,
ive also been reading the "may" thread and i think i kind of agree with uwila but im not sure.i suppose i might have different views when we actually find out the sex in a couple of weeks time but it was something i was thinking about too

JonahB · 22/01/2005 18:26

Evening All,

Mirage/Uwila, big congratulations on your scans

Lua/Uwila, the whole circumcision issue is a bit of a can of worms for me. For religious reasons, I would like to have it done if we have a boy, however my DH is a confirmed aethiest and sees it as a barbaric, unnecessary act with no justification for its continued practice (this is not intended to insult anyone elses beliefs on the subject). For myself, I dont believe it is necessary on a practical level in this day and age, but I believe its terribly important. I feel that IF my child decides to follow a "practicing path" in later life, it leaves choices and doors open for him. For me, its straight away or never-I wouldn't want to subject an adult male to the procedure!! As you can see, a bit of a can of worms...

Dont suppose there's anyone else in a similar position, is there?

Uwila · 22/01/2005 18:46

Jonah, we are sort of the same. But not for religeous resons. I'm American (where most boys are circumcised). I just think it hygeinic, and I also think that if this boy ever chooses to live in the US(which is very possible since he will have US citizenship), then he might be really unhappy about not being done. I knew several guys in my 20s-30s who were deeply embarrassed about the state of their willies. And, I agree, early infancy (like first week or so) is the time to do it, or not at all.

I don't feel really strong about it, but I think I prefer circumcision. Never met anyone who said, "eeeeew, did you know so and so is circumcised". But I have certainly heard many (American) women say that about non-circumcised men.

Uwila · 22/01/2005 18:51

Oh yes. Meet up was great. DD was astonishingly well behaved. Yippee....

Welshie, £20 is what we all gave at the end. We had a fiver left over, and so added that to the pot for Sweeetheart.

Speaking of the meetup, we discussed having another, probably end of March or early April. Easter is the 26th March. So I guess we'd be looking at 19 March or 02 April. Any comments/suggestions?

charleypops · 22/01/2005 19:07

Hi everyone

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone at the meet today for such a lovely time. I didn't feel that scared after all. Sorry if I rattled on inanely to any of you, I tend to do that when I'm a bit nervous! I thought it seemed to go really quickly. Welshie - we all paid the same as you in the end so it was exactly right and you didn't seem tired at all!

Scraggy, Pink, Lippy, Teabelly, hope your journeys home were ok and you didn't spend too much money in the West End! (I went a bit unnecessary in Liberty's )

Mirage, Ulwila, congrats on your scans.

Katz - those of us at the meet who haven't already sent you a cheque have given our contributions to Lippy who very kindly offered to send it over on our behalf. Thanks again.

Still thinking of you Sweetheart if you're reading this x

LipstickMum · 22/01/2005 19:59

Evening everyone, Hello again to the London meet up ladies!!!

That was a funny experience! As I crossed the road to go into the restaurant, I had this huge, rather bizarre grin on my face, a cross between embarrassment and anticipation!! It was great! I was nervous too, but it was very cool to see you all.

I was slightly disappointed with my small stash of maternity clothes from Top Shop and Hennes, I thought I would see more stuff I liked. Anyway, what was a revelation was trying on a Top Shop dress, they are so comfy, I am going to try and wear dresses from here until June

Since I didn't spend the fortune I'd thought on clothes I then went and got fleeced by a very camp and beautiful sales assistant on the 'Prescriptives' counter in Selfridges Don'teven ask how much I spent on one item, but I kept telling myself my poor pregnancy skin needs it!!!

Katz, I'll send you off a cheque tomorrow with donations from Charley, Uwila, Teabelly, Scraggy, Pink and me.

Dp just said, " are you guys all chatting again now?? You sad people lol !!"
