i bf ds til he was 14 months and only stopped as one day i realised i had stopped producing milk! i had become a personal dummy! i think it may have been becuase i was pregnant. now ds just like playing with my nips when he joins me in bed! he is fascinated by nipples and not just mine! the look of concentration as he tweaks is cute! hope that is not sounding weird! i have a feeling he will want to start bf again so will consider it as he will only be 20 months so maybe i will.
thanks ladies, i getangry when i think of him too that is why i only see him twice a week otherwise i could swing for him! i usually blank out when he speaks anyway! these days he is just a s* to me. i sound heartless but if you knew what he put me through.... anyway people in RL get enough of my ranting as it is!! sorry ladies
annwoo did you have problems with latching?

emkay · 29/07/2008 23:19

Hello all
Been a while since I've posted but good to read all your updates.

Breastfed DD for a year and then went straight to cow's milk. One of the good things was having to sit still and rest for a while when feeding as temptation is to try to do too much running around. I like the tips for keeping toddlers occupied. DD is now 2.5 so hasn't breastfed for a year and a half but stunned me other night by saying she wanted some of the baby's milk and pointing to my breasts! I thought she'd only think of asking that once the baby was actually here...

I'm another one of those teachers with the nice summer holidays! Have been doing a little bit of extra catch up after the end of term so finally finished today . Now just two weeks in a bit of a desk job in September and that's it. Planning to go back in July to be back on full pay for next summer holidays bit cheeky...

Just reading up about BCG vaccinations. DD still has a red scar from hers - she had it at 6 days old. Does anyone know if you can be given it somewhere less prominent or if there's anything you can do to prevent the scarring?

Emmsy1 · 30/07/2008 08:43

Hi girls, my blood results were ok, HMG 11.6 so don't really know why I was feeling so dizzy last week, could be to do with my blood pressure or something totally unrelated to pregnancy Still, as long as I'm ok at the moment, not going to worry about it. I have been told that it's best to stay on the Iron tablets as HMG will probably fall soon any way!??

Sambrads you say your on child tax credits?
If your receiving a family element of at least £545 per year (check your tax credit award notice)then you should qualify for the £500 SSMG (maternity grant) If you don't think you qualify at the moment, I suggest you wait until baby is born, get your new award of tax credits that includes new amounts for baby (you may even qualify for working tax credit) and then claim the maternity grant, you have up to 3 months to make the claim from when the baby is born, hope this helps.

There's no way I can breast feed, as I had a breast reduction many years ago. As the nipple was rellocated its impossible for me to BF, although I didn't know this when 1st DS was born as cryed after many failed attemps to BF!

Did something really stupid on Monday, took my children to West Kirby beach. I applied lots of SF 50 cream on them, but not on myself! I have badly burnt my legs and bump! Have been in awful pain since and have tried many soothing lotions. It's really bad when I put my legs down and try to walk after having my feet up. My wee trips in the night have been a night mare. I am a real stupid cow at times, and unforunately this is one of those times.
The pain is ok once I start moving around, and baby is also fine, just thought I would share this bit of stupidity with you.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/07/2008 09:04

Ouch Emmsy!

sambrads · 30/07/2008 09:11

thanks so much emmsy for the info its been great help

i also wont be bf as its not for me at all but i do respect people who do it as its a brill thing to do

i have been having very swollen hands lately think its just the heat but another thing that worried me was i was outside sitting and the next thing i started seeing stars it was so strange and a little scary

emmsy as for sun burn thats madness i got such a bad burning in tenerife while pg with ds and i swear i will never go away again !! you should put some natural yoghart on it or aloe vera .
i forgot to ask you how is fruity doing i need to find her to see how she is

sparklesandnowinefor13weeks · 30/07/2008 10:48

Hi all

Emmsy OUCH I hope you start to feel ok soon, I keep getting the dizzy spells too but i don't get my bloods done until tomorrow

That reminds me I put a call in to the midwife answer machine on monday because i was feeling really unwell with the dizzyness/lightheadedness and no one has called me back to see if i'm ok

I'll be bf again, i've never managed to get beyond about 9 months though before i've had enough

bigmouthstrikesagain · 30/07/2008 13:30

Hello All - I haven't been online for a few days so will need to read back to catch up.

Emmsy - ouch poor you - I have burnt my arms and back a few times this summer (I am a freckly gingery type) and am always more conscientious about applying suncream on dc than on myself. But your burns sound horrid - I hope you have plenty of aftersun cream (keep it in the fridge).

The last few days were horrible and stuffy I have been going out as early in the day as possible to avoid the midday heat. I am ashamed to say a grey coolish summer would be just fine with me. I am finding it difficult to chase after my dd as she is in that annoying phase of bolting for the nearest road every time she is released from the buggy - have twisted muy ankle in her hot pursuit - and it is only going to get harder - am I going to have to keep her strapped in till October??? Don't want too...

On the feeding issue - I have no idea how much formula costs I don't think I have ever bought any. Just stoppped feeding dd a month ago and she is 2 1/4. As I have breastfed for nearly four years without a break I am actually enjoying these few weeks before the new baby arrives as my boobs are my own again! And as dd is established in her own room now my bed is also my own (and dh's of course) - quite strange really.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 30/07/2008 13:36

BTW - don't mean to sound smug about not buying formula - it was never needed as I found feeding suited me and ds/ dd fine and so I feel very fortunate as the thought of all that sterilising and mixing etc. frankly scared me (and I am a lazy sort).

Feeding a newborn while looking after a toddler is not always easy but cbeebies was a god send - so are slings that allow you to move around with baby latched on but with dd I found I could trot around holding dd on with one arm and using the other too build lego towers or whatever.

WheresTheAuPair · 30/07/2008 15:31

emkay- I used aloe vera gelly on my DS's BCG and he has pretty much no scarring now. Its also fab on vaginal wounds and c-section scars.

star6 · 30/07/2008 17:26

So... my "what to expect when you're expecting" book lists the things you may be feeling each month... DH has just noticed that it hasn't said anything about moodiness/weepiness...etc in a few months now and henceforth is claiming that my sudden mood swings are not actually a side effect of the pregnancy!! But I thought for SURE they must be - what else could it possibly be from?

hedgepig · 30/07/2008 18:17

star you could always blame all moodswings on DH I'm sure he would then realise they are down to the pg afterall

Oooo Emmsey sun burn is so horrid, but its so hot you just don't want to cover up do you.

I managed to bf DS for about 4 months last time until I got chicken pox and I had poxes everywhere including my nipples and I just couldn't face breast feedigng any more. I found it really hard up until then, he was one of those babies that wasn't interested in feeding (except in the middle of the night) so I had to make sure he fed regularly rather than on demand which was a bit daft TBH. If this one is similar I will be going onto formula earlier.

hansnava · 30/07/2008 19:08

hi all - i have total baby brain today. went to see midwife and had bloods taken when i left i went to reception to make next appointment and completely forgot to had bloods in to them. they r sitting in my fridge at the minute which will please my dp when he gets home from work as he has a phobia of blood and needles .
then went and left a bag of shopping in mil car after she dropped me off home.
its either the heat or my lo zapping away at my brain.

midwife also said baby is breach, which has me worring a bit as it seems pretty comfy in this position as 9 times out of 10 the kicking is down the bottom. when my sil was pg her dd was breach from 26 weeks and didnt budge. i know im gonna end up having another csection

going to try my hardest to breast feed this time. i did with dd but could only manage a few weeks as i got really bad mastitus so i gave up but regreted it the second boobs had stopped hurting, when i discussed it with my mum a few weeks ago she said she used to hold me with one hand while i fed and the other would be digging into anything she could get her hands on.

hansnava · 30/07/2008 19:10

hand bloods in. [see what i mean]

caramelbunny · 30/07/2008 19:57

Hello to star6, annwoo and emkay, my fellow teachers lazing around in this hot weather, this is when we can reap the rewards for the late night marking and parents evenings! So impressed by your organisation star but sounds like things will be ok for you going back to work in Jan. I'm planning the same as you emkay and will pop back in July but no proper work for me now til Sept 2009!

Really pleased to hear that your pelvis is fixed snowymum, it's just miraculous isn't it?! Lozza, well worth looking into, I went through www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk The physio was brilliant and I just can't believe what a difference it's made to my life. I hobbled through my last pregnancy and NHS physio, although lovely and sympathetic, told me same as you've been told - get in and out of car carefully etc. She also said if things got really bad I could have sticks! Fortunately for me my daughter was born good and early!!

As there's been a bit of talk about breast feeding, I've heard that when they see the new baby feeding, toddlers can sometimes regress and want to BF themselves. Has anyone found this and is it best to let them?

Just had Gu melt in the middle chocolate pudding with double cream. Can't understand why I've put on over 2 stone.... (I did offset this with fresh raspberries)

emkay · 30/07/2008 20:52

Thanks for aloe vera tip aupair - I'll try that next time.

Just had one of the most difficult days with DD ever - tantrums galore, hot sun, day out on my own with her and just could not get her into the car seat at the end - took about half an hour of force / persuasion in the full glare of the sun. Felt totally useless. Of course DP is out late tonight so did the whole supper bedtime routine and feel exhausted. For the first time I am really wondering whether I can do this with two... if she's anything like this and I have a newborn I don't think I can cope. I want to look forward to this baby, not dread it!

So much for lazing in the hot weather caramelbunny - maybe we'll try that some other day!

sambrads · 30/07/2008 21:12

hi ya emkay i feel the same i worry how the hell i am going to cope ds is 22 months and will be 2 when i have this baby its going to be so hard

my dh is out late tonight and i to had to do bedtime with ds . we have just put him into a big boy bed so he now gets up and i have to put him back to bed this can last for an hour so very tiring

jenwa · 30/07/2008 21:13

Wow, how many posts since weekend!!!

Had M/W today, all ok although am measuring 30cm when I am 28weeks. Am hoping I am not carrying a whale!!!! Had bloods done and slighty discussed birth options but I keep changing my mind! Will have to wait for scan at 34 weeks anyway to make sure placenta moved. BP 90/50 so norm for me emmsy1 I am always low with my BP but it is ok, better than being high as it gives it time to go up in labour!

CSWS - cant believe you do still BF, I look at my DD who is 3 in Oct and cant imagine her still on me, The teeth!!!!! ouch! Also was nice to stop and get my boobs back to myself (only did for short while though) I will do again this time round but not sure how long for. Def as soon as teeth appear baby will be on the bottle!!!!

bethoo I know we discussed single parenting on weekend and how at least you know what you are doing and when etc but you do seem to be having a difficult time. Hopefully things will sort themselves out. Will your DP get work or is he not very motivated?

I am getting lots of wriggles and kicks and by belly button is nearly popping out. Boobs getting bigger, varicose vein throbbing, bum throbbing from previous 3rd degree tear and back is aching but other than that I am fine (a little short of breath but ok)!!!!!!! {smile}

ronshar · 30/07/2008 21:16

Ladies we need a new thread made up! I have just seen the thread count.
Who can think of a good one? It may be the last until babies start appearing!!

Emmsy1 · 31/07/2008 07:42

Jenwa I was 27 weeks last Thursday but measured 25cm, seem to have stayed the same weight now for approx 7 weeks. will be seen again in 18th Aug and will be 34+4 then so hoping baby has grown a little. I had a baby under 5lb that was only 2 weeks early, and none of the midwives picked up on it, even though I kept telling them that I felt smaller, he had to go into scbu for a week before he was allowed home and I had to give him lots of iron and vitamins in his feeds. He is fine now, still one of the smallest in his class and unfortunately not as bright as his siblings (but not stupid) just that the others are above average! I worry that this could happen again, so it's best to have a bigger baby really None of my baby's have reached 7lb yet so that's what I', aiming for My BP seems lower now than my normal BP, and definately lower than previous pregnancies, not worrying at all though as yours is super low

Emmsy1 · 31/07/2008 07:44

Ronshar how about the final countdown!

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/07/2008 08:33

arrrrggghhhh Emmsy - that makes it sound very real. Am I really going to have a baby in 2 months time ? Holy moly!
