hello ladies took me ages to catch up on thread

think the baby is breech again as i have been getting loads of kicks in pelvis
i never worried about this when i was pregnant with ds i was just oblivious to the whole breech thing and just asumed that i would give birth myself .

i agree with the heat its madness i cant cope find taking my son to the park is hard work
i have been havin really bad pains in my back and pelvis so mw said she would refer me to see the physio so hopefully that will help !!

cant believe i have less than 10 weeks to go its so so scary

CSWS thanks for the update - thought I'd better pop in and post before in case I get exterminated deleted

Hello to all the newbies. Hope you're all having nice, straightforward pregnancies.

Just survived a long weekend of my mother-in-law (who can do no wrong in DH's eyes) driving me insane (I'd like to say it's the hormones but she always sends me to the end of my tether). We have the same nonsense everytime she comes to stay where she tries to get all her sons together round at our house meaning I do all the catering, running around etc and it always unravels at the last minute meaning I do a load of work and spend a load of money for nothing and, bless him, my DH always turns a blind eye. Coupled with the heat and a major garden re-landscaping project at home I'm surprised I have any marbles left...grr! Rant over, sorry.

bethoo I've got 'the line'. Didn't really think much of it until DH pointed at it and asked what it was in the tone of someone who thought his wife had been painting brown lines down her pregnant belly for the fun of it....! Still clinging on to my inny (just) as I have a completely irrational fear of it popping out.

Lol at the rhino turning over in bed comment - each time I turn over in the night it's a major operation and by the time I've done it, I'm awake anyway.

star6 smiled at people's opinion of your bump size. Woman in Screwfix on Saturday said mine was nice and neat. Brother-in-law on Sunday (in his usual diplomatic tone) told me I was huge. Midwife yesterday - 'right size for my dates' - shows what everyone else's opinion counts for!

On the subject of when to give up work. I was planning to work until 38 weeks (so I could have as much time off as poss with the baby) but the look of horror on my boss's face when I told him this (as much as to say - 'you won't go into labour in the office will you?') meant that I decided to work until 37 weeks instead. Hoping we don't get an indian summer in September so the commuting isn't hellish as it's not getting any more fun as I get bigger (though I'm still being ballsy and kicking people out of the priority seats on the tube!).

Going for our gender scan on Friday (to appease DH) so will let you know whether it's pink or blue for Sallypuss

sambrads · 29/07/2008 16:52

hi ladies i went today and got my maternity grant form can all the ladies who got it tell me they got it??

i get incapacity benefit which does not count and dh works 37 hours a week we do get working and child tax credit but not sure if it is enough to qualify .

i swear all these grants and hardly anyone can get them

please can you all help me out and tell me your circumstances sorry if i am coming across nosey i dont mean to be

4andnotout · 29/07/2008 16:56

I get it, dp works 30 hours a week and earns £11,000 a year, i dont work. HTH

bethoo · 29/07/2008 17:45

tell me about it sambrads i did not realsie i had pages and pages to fill in! the way it is advertised it implies that every mother to be is entititled but apparantly not! i will not be sending mine off til 33 weeks when i next see mw to sign it.hope i get it as was counting on it payiing for my double buggy!

bethoo · 29/07/2008 17:46

oh i work 25 hours so on about £10k a year and partner gives me nothing. he has been pleadiing poverty since ds was born so really had enough!

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/07/2008 18:10

I don't work sambrads. Dh does, on a self-employed basis, and earns well. We have never been entitled to anything.

star6 · 29/07/2008 18:11

I still haven't gotten the MAT B1 form... do I need to request this or should they just give it to me... for some reason, I was embarrassed to ask for it... but my employer said they will need me to get it before I go on Maternity Leave.
I know nothing about maternity grants... etc. Both DH and I are teachers and work full time and I don't think we would qualify.
Bethoo does your dp have to give you something (legally)... excuse my ignorance, I dont know the laws on this, but appalling if he can get away with giving you absolutley nothing!!

sambrads · 29/07/2008 19:16

csws did you get a maternity grant???

i will fill mine out anyway and get the mw to sign it on thusrday if i get it i get it if i dont i will cry

would be a great help with double pram and baby milk and sterilizer.
not sure how many of you is bottle feeding but have you seen the price of baby formula???? it has gone up ny £2 since i had my son

annwoo · 29/07/2008 19:17

Star - just request the Mat B1 from your midwife the next time you see her, don't be embarrassed it is a piece of paper your employer needs to activate your maternity leave.

Apply for child tax credits when the baby is born, you may get something although it depends on what you have earned in last tax year.

Bethoo your partner is getting off v. lightly, does he help you in any way?

No sambrads. Don't actually know what the maternity grant is, but I know that we won't be entitled to it. Can't complain though really, as we don't need help IYSWIM.

I have one simple answer to all complaints about the price of formula - BREASTFEED!

Ooh yes, enjoy the scan Sallypuss.

WheresTheAuPair · 29/07/2008 20:30

Wow loads of catch up on- glad everyone is in the main ok. Glad this hot weather is finally cooling- have been really light headed and i swear i'm beginning to waddle in the heat- a sexy look no? I have my highly gratuitous 4D scan next week (thanks MIL ) and am looking forward to it. have no holiday booked so other than that not much to look forward to iykwim. (am not hard done by just have no exciting events to look forward to this summer!) DH is going to V next month and i've been offered a free ticket too but sadly think it might finish me off...ah well...next year!

star6 · 29/07/2008 20:40

Thanks for advice on the matb1 form... I was embarrassed about it only because I remembered reading threads before of people who really wanted the form and kept asking for it and the hospital would say they couldn't have it before a certain number of weeks... couldn't remember what that was, but didn't want them to tell me I was asking for it too early (i'm 29 weeks, last saw them at 28).
bethoo My curiosity is growing as to how someone can get away with giving you nothign to help with baby expenses.
CSWS you sound like my DH!!!! I keep saying, "but what if it doesn't work out?... what if? what if?" and his response is always "but bf is best and FREE!!!" I swear, he cares more about it being free than healthy...

bethoo · 29/07/2008 21:00

oh please i will try not to rant!!! he is constantly pleading poverty! he is like a 16 year old trapped in a 36 year olds body!
i know i sound like a cow now but what annoys me is he pays maintenance for his child from prev marriage cos she will not let him have her otherwise yet he brings her round to my house where i have to feed her and put her up for the night and she is one of those kiddies who has no respect for other peoples homes, i am resentful as he gives nothing for our ds yet i feed his other child!and i always put pertol in his car and never see it again! so fed up, every month he says how he will have money coming in and he will start diong his share yet i never see it. he has been saying this since ds was born 17months ago! and i was told that CSA are no longer taking on any new cases so very unlikely i will ever get any money out of him for the future or the past. he has a free ride as he lives a single life then pops oveer to see us, eats me out of house and home then buggers off which suits me but get fed up that he seems to think i can afford this! i only can because i budget and dont go out and if it was not for my familytax credits i dread to think how i could pay my way. sorry ladies but i could go on! this is why i refuse to live wiht him amongst other reasons but i would support him and there is no way i ma paying for his tobacco etc!he would not work i tell you! he is a lazyb and i still dont know why i bother with him but when i try to split up with him he puts on the waterworks, says how much he loves me and how once the money starts coming in......

rowanmac · 29/07/2008 21:01

Hi all
Baby rowanmac still in position and kicking hard and judging by where I'm being kicked little bean is still breech. i really don't want a caesarian as popped out number one in 2 hours flat and was hoping this might be quicker.

No contractions for 4 days which was great as home alone with DH at car thingy at Silverstone. How do single parents survive? Neighbours had a noisy party until 3am last night much teenage screeching in the garden so absolutely knackered contractions all the way to work which made me even more pissed off with neighbours. We've decided to turn the hosepipe on them if they try it again. hopefully if drunk they'll just assume its raining.

I'm going off work at 32 weeks. Planned to go off at 36 weeks last time, would have had baby at work! but had been put off at 29 weeks with being too big. Counting down the days. Can't believe the number of people who come in to see me regularly who have only just noticed its a bump, must have thought it was too much cake before.

I breastfed for 11 months last time, v hard work initially, one question how do you entertain toddler while sitting down for 45mins-hour feeding number 2. I really can't be bothered sterilising anything so suppose I better breastfeed again!

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/07/2008 21:13

rowanmac - one suggestion I've often seen on MN is to have a box of toys/one special toy for the todder that is only brought out when the baby is feeding. Another is to read to the toddler whilst feeding the baby. Or one could try to master the art of feeding in a sling. Or in my case I could just feed both of them at once!

4andnotout · 29/07/2008 21:17

I tried feeding dd's 1 &2 with no success, then dd3 i fed in the delivery room and then straight onto formula, but she had other ideas and kept latching on at every opportunity, so ended up mix feeding her for the first few weeks, i really regret ever letting her have a bottle first as she would have fed better and for much longer This time i would love to fully bf but with a 13 month old and school and playschool run I'm not sure how it's going to go!!Dp is taking paternity leave this time which he didn't last and taking all his holiday in one go so should have 4 weeks to try and get it established.

WheresTheAuPair · 29/07/2008 21:23

CSWS thats a good tip for entertaining a toddler whilst feeding. With DS i felt like i had him latched onto me for 6 months solid!

star6 · 29/07/2008 21:42

oh bethoo.... I'm so sorry to hear that! That makes me so when I hear stories like that. Does he at least help take care of your DS at home? what a nightmare. You poor thing
I want to bf but also pump/express a lot. I bought an electric pump (Avent ISIS IQ). I know I won't like the pump much, but must do it for returning to work and want to give it my best shot.

annwoo · 29/07/2008 21:51

Breastfeeding ds1 was the hardest thing for me - so sore.
Would bring tears to my eyes. Not everyone experiences this If you can get through the first two weeks you should be ok.

Would keep ds occupied while I bf dd (18 months difference)
by either reading him a book, giving him 'jobs' to do, but both babies drained my breast in 5-10 minutes. Do some babies actually take an hour to feed?

csws - are you still bf your little one? Found my milk dried up in this preg and last.

bethoo - about your dp.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/07/2008 21:57

Yes annwoo - still feeding 2yr5month old dd. She's a boobaholic! She assures me that there's still milk in there though.

annwoo · 29/07/2008 22:03

csws impressive!
Kinda glad I have my boobs back before the next one turns up though.
