Yes MW did touch/stroke the top of baby's head, because she went all the way up to my cervix and 'released' the rest of my show/got my hormones going by 'opening up' the area. In perinal massage you are only really massaging inside the vagina and not poking into places up top you wouldnt normally.. iyswim.
Also she wouldn't have done the internal if LO hadn't been fully engaged (I think...). She said he was as low as he is going to get.
I am still bleeding away at the moment, and I am waiting for my waters etc. to go.
I felt so good to be able to make a decision earlier with MW (asking if I wanted the internal). I felt in control for once. Which really isn't something pregnancy allows when it comes down to what happens to your body and when!!

I am so excited. I have been jumping up and down and doing gentle excercise as MW recomends, but I am tired now and need a nap!

Whether I actually get to sleep or not is another story!

I would love to know PAL's baby name if anyone would be kind enough.

Carey87 · 31/03/2008 14:32

how are you doing scorpio? any twinges or pains?

is gas and air really that good pfj?

Cx

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 31/03/2008 14:34

have just been crampy last night and this morning, then again this afternoon. I think i will be this weekend some time

Gas and Air makes you feel like you are drunk, so you feel pain that way iyswim. You start it at the beginning of each contraction to the peak, then stop. it wears off immediately.

Denny185 · 31/03/2008 14:34

Thanks scorpio, great name PAL.

Good luck PFJ - no one would ever forget b-day if it came on the 1st would they.

Denny185 · 31/03/2008 14:36

Gas and air got me high as kite, it was fab, I just breathed it solidly for 10 hours though not at the start of each contraction. I sounded somewhat like darth vader and had very sore teeth fro 2 days from biting the mouth piece

scorpio1 · 31/03/2008 14:37

lol Denny

it does make your mouth very dry though.

ThePFJ · 31/03/2008 14:38

I don't care how good it is or isnt I suppose Carey, just get me to the experts, my own private labour room (Chesterfield hospital are great - especially to first time mums), and the DRUGS!!!!

I am going to try and avoid pethadine if I can, because it can cross over to baby, but if MW says I ought to/situation calls for it then I will at the time.

Apparently gas and air doesnt really take away the pain it just makes you care alot less that it hurts, so you can deal with it alot better. Plus the extra oxygen makes you feel really super.

I have said in my birth plan that I'll ask for an epidural or the birth pool if I want it at the time.

I have 3 giant bags of mini eggs in hospital bag. Do you think thats enough??

Carey87 · 31/03/2008 14:38

ooo! it all sounds good!

rite then, I'm now going to finally pack my hospital bag. Is there anything that you would sujjest that they dont usually?

OP posts:
ThePFJ · 31/03/2008 14:45

From mumsnet wisdom I would say Bendy straw, lipsyl, hankerchiefs, face water spray, nipple cream, lots and lots of big knickers (I have been though 3 already today alone from bleeding), cd's, camera, vicks inhaler, a few button up tops/nighties, your nursing bra, your maternity notes, list of phone numbers, vaseline for babys bottom to stop the first poo sticking like buggery, food/drinks and snacks, and a machine that goes BING.

Just kidding about that last one.

ThePFJ · 31/03/2008 14:46

Oh and paracetamol/ibuprofen for birth partner. And your mobile.
Things that keep you sane really.

Denny185 · 31/03/2008 14:48

Was too away with the fairies to notice any dryness in mouth, DH said i kind of growled at anyone who tried to take it off me

ThePFJ · 31/03/2008 14:50

Hehe Denny.. I can't wait to see what sort of woman I turn into while in full labour.

PortAndLemon · 31/03/2008 14:50

Forgot the bendy straw and really wished I had one (no time before birth, but just after).

ThePFJ · 31/03/2008 14:56

Wow.. love your facebook pics PAL. Thank you so very very very much for 'befriending' me there

Have just spent four hours at the hospital for a growth scan with 2 exteremely bored kids. The growth has been fine all the way along till this scan. (Have to have scans cos I have epilepsy and the meds I take can affect growth). It seemed like a difficult scan to take as LO was breakdancing most of the time so am trying not to worry. I've got to go back for CTG monitoring twice next week and then another scan the week after, am 36+2 weeks but both others born at 38 weeks so now worried that this babe will be tiny. Anyone any experience of how accurate growth scans are? Estimated weight at the mo is around 4lb 10.

scorpio1 · 31/03/2008 14:59

i have had 2 growth scans, one with each previous dc.

DS1 - estimate 7lb - actual 6lb 11oz

ds2 - estimate 8lb - actual 8lb 1oz

Very close with mine! they will put on about half lb a week from now, so even if you do go 2 more weeks and thats it then you will have a near 6lb baby, which is small, but OK.
