TwilightSurfer · 29/03/2008 20:09

Yikes, you are behind. Ugly Betty and Greys are what I'm waiting on too. Soon...very soon!!

dizzydixies · 29/03/2008 20:11

you may have to tape it and post it to me!!!

VintageGardenia · 29/03/2008 20:14

Yay TS I feel much better now and it will all be stiff upper lip from now on.

Weeping is wasteful, weeping is wasteful... rpt.

Mmmm we are having Domino's pizza delivered! Saturday night treat.

TwilightSurfer · 29/03/2008 20:35

Have just gorged myself on a huge bowl of chili with lots and lots of crackers. Now on to the choc easter eggs I hid in my secret place. MMMMmmmmm

Glad you're coming around VG.

Dizzy I do DVR all the episodes but then erase them once I've watched. Sorry. I'm sooooo hoping Dirty Sexy Money returns to tv because I still hanging IYKWIM.

poppysocks · 29/03/2008 21:45

You people have been busy today! Took me ages to catch up!

Good to see that things are looking a bit clearer for Miamla. Thinking of you.

Hazie - My DH is just waiting for the arrival of the same car. His consolation for the other car having to be swapped for a serious family car. Cannot wait for it to arrive so I can start being lazy and stop walking everywhere, having the other car for myself. DD's refusing to use the buggy at the moment, but gets too tired to walk far too quickly. Not good for my hips....

Dizzy - just saw your names thread. You're considering Clementine? I'm desperately trying to convince DH of this as it would go well with DD's name, our surname and our chosen middle name. He's not up for it at the moment though. Hope you get to use it though!

dizzydixies · 29/03/2008 22:11

Poppy was in St Andrews again today, wondering if was driving past you again lol
then we went to bonkers in cupar so I could ditch entertain the kids for a couple of hours

I LOVE Clementine but don't think DH is going to budge an inch - very straight irish lad not going to be naming any dd of his after a fruit - does he look like fecking Gwyneth Paltrow?!?!?

(no offence VG on the irish thing!!)

must arrange to meet up soon either at bonkers or cairnie when its stopped being so fecking cold!!

TwilightSurfer · 30/03/2008 00:31

Here's yet another post that's all me me me me....

I've spent the last three hours looking over girl names. I think I've read every MN Baby Names thread there is, read through my think baby names book and visited a dozen websites. This is all that's grabbed me: Maggie. What do you think? DH hasn't been asked but DD loves it and it sounds really cute coming out of her mouth. Only problem is what would be a good middle name to go with it........

pertelote · 30/03/2008 12:01

Twilight - had to come out of my lurk to say I LOVE Maggie for a little girl! Mostly because of one of my favourite characters in fiction, Maggie Tulliver in Mill on the Floss. She's clever and independent - which of course brings her to a sticky end, but still, great girl. Sadly in the UK Maggie still seems to make people think of Margaret Thatcher, so I don't think we'll be using it - but I can't imagine that's a problem on your side of the pond!

Got my scan tomorrow - hence hanging out on Mumsnet when I should be doing something useful! And DP felt the baby kicking last night for the first time which was fantastic - made up for losing an hour's sleep as the clocks went forward. I'm just telling myself I'll appreciate that extra hour a lot more when we get it back in October...

TwilightSurfer · 30/03/2008 13:11

Pertelote good luck with your scan tomorrow. I'm sure you'll gain some amazing pictures.

Funny I don't associate Maggie with Margaret Thatcher...do people call her Maggie? She seems a bit too stuffy for the name. I do however think of Dame Maggie Smith who is one of my ALL TIME favorite performers. Tea with Mussolini and My House in Umbria are my favorite movies of her.

dizzydixies · 30/03/2008 13:32

pertelote - good luck with the scan, please don't lurk, come back and tell us how you get on

well ladies gold star for me, even if I do say so myself. have made minestrone soup, which we're all having for lunch, rocky road bars - which has got rid of some of the residual easter eggs (if its a success will make it again and send it in to work with dh to be demolished) and lemon tray bake

oohh, have come over all Nigella!!

cyteen · 30/03/2008 13:42

pertelote - good luck with your scan, hope all goes well

dizzy I hope your domestic goddessness is catching, yet again I'm lazing on the sofa doing sod all while washing up cools in the sink . On the plus side, went to see another house this morning and I've rather fallen in love with it - DP likes it too, so pending thinking time we might be moving soon! It's a great place for a family, big rooms, lots of space, cute garden, in a conservation area so greenery and birdlife abound...can you tell I'm selling it to myself? Best of all, we'd be able to rent with an option to buy, so we'd have time to save up as well as get to know the area before we commit.

It's cheered me right up as am having a tricky time at the moment...it's the first anniversary of my brother's death next month and I'm not really handling it very well. Feel so bad for DP having to mop me up all the time.

dizzydixies · 30/03/2008 14:19

cyteen I may have managed to get rid of the easter eggs and left over veg in a soup but the house is a stinking mess and the kids are neglected

dh in shower now getting ready for work so am planning a rest before he disappears off as am now officially shattered

glad you liked the house, will you be able to move before baby comes?

so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother, are you going to do something to mark the anny? losing someone close is such a difficult thing and has to be dealt with in a very personal way, regardless of what time of year it happens. Let DP mop up after you for a wee while, these things take time

cyteen · 30/03/2008 14:31

Thanks dizzy. I don't know if I can face doing anything 'organised' to mark this anniversary - other times, like his birthday, are good times to celebrate him, but for the anniversary of his death I think I just want to be alone on a big hill or something. He had a really rare type of cancer, a total bolt from the blue, and went from happy, healthy 30something to half-blind skeletal wreck in just over two years. We were with him when he died - me and DP, my dad, my nan, SIL and her parents - it was the most appalling thing that's ever happened to me and I feel like it's a wound that will never heal (although it might scab over).

So I want to do something and not let it pass unmarked, but I just can't face being with people (other than DP). Maybe we'll go out to the Dales or something, look at some sheep, listen to some birdsong.

Re. the house, we would be able to move in before the baby comes which is a real plus, also it wouldn't need anything doing to it. Suspect I will start a whispering campaign in DP's ear before long!

Hope you have a good rest

dizzydixies · 30/03/2008 15:55

oh cyteen thats awful, your poor db. I agree that you don't need to do anything organised but take some time to yourself to remember him, what was his favourite tea - why not cook that or something similar? Thank goodness you have a lovely supportive DP at this time.

my rest didn't happen, never does in this bloody house lol am still trying to get in the shower and hope to do so before dd2 wakens up

CaptainCaveman · 30/03/2008 16:18

Phew, panic over....had no internet access for past 24 hours . I've had to make conversation with real live people instead!!!

Got a big bag of matty clothes off my lovely friend on friday - some really practical but pretty worky type clothes, a dress and about a million nursing bras (most of which she never wore!).

We're hoping to move too Cyteen and have just reduced our house price yesterday by 5K, which will take it under stamp duty price. Hoping to sell soon as we have also found a house we love!

Ds up at 6am (7am really with clocks going forwards) and it should've been dh's turn to get up with him. He moaned that it was too early as he'd only had 5 hours sleep after coming to bed late - and he knew it was his turn to be getting up today. So I got up instead. Thought about making dh do it but he'd only end up shouting at ds then ds would come up to me crying and wake me up again anyway (life in our house follows a somewhat predictable pattern!). So now i'm grump and tired...

off to do some internet retail therapy.

Anyone seen alittlebitshy? She hasn't posted for a while.....ALBS Where are you?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 30/03/2008 16:20

cc bang out of order from Mr Cavie - spend spend spend lady - you're entitled

TwilightSurfer · 30/03/2008 16:22

Cyteen my sympathies to you. I lost my mother in May....will be eleven years. Cancer. I find that the days leading up to the anniversary are very difficult even now. I'm with you about finding a spot on a big hill somewhere. Typically we're at the beach so I'll go sit in the sand and stare at the waves. We all have our ways of coping. How nice that you have the possibility of a wonderful new home to focus on. Gives you a little emotional balance.

Dizzy I too have channeled Nigella this week, cooking dinner each night with a smile. I've NEVER cooked five nights in a row. And it's actually all been edible.

Pertelote, I agree with Dizzy, please don't just lurk but come back and tell us about your scan tomorrow.

Oh I have a doctor's visit tomorrow too. It will be boring I'm sure because I had my big scan last time. It will be nice to sit and chat about the pain in my ass . Honestly it's getting better but I should still bring the topic up.

Where's everyone else this weekend?? Hope you're all doing well and not too tired from the time change. {our clocks changed a few weeks ago....yawn}

TwilightSurfer · 30/03/2008 16:25

Captain nice to see our lives are yet again similar as DH would have handled DD the same way with the same outcome. MEN!! about the clothes. I've been "told" I have some coming my way but they've not appeared yet. Oh well, all I really need are stretchy shorts, white t-shirts and flip flops.

CaptainCaveman · 30/03/2008 16:45

So far I have bought ds a new mattress to go with his new bed (which will arrive in 2 weeks!)
hmmm, where shall cyberspace take me next?>>...

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 30/03/2008 16:49

am on ebay looking up stuff for the wee one's party if thats any inspiration to you?!?

Buckets · 30/03/2008 17:09

Twilight/Pertelote I love Maggie too! I had almost convinced DH to add it to our girl shortlist when we saw the winkie . I would have had it short for Marianne, which is totally abnormal but no weirder than Peggy being short for Margaret. Hadn't even thought about Thatch before Pertelote mentioned her!
Still not getting anywhere with the boys names here, Kurt is still the fallback but I'm now trying to convince DH about Seth, Gideon or Howard (I know it's old mannish but I think it's kinda cool). Wondered if Adamson for a middle name is too jokey or twee (DH is called Adam you see) - what do people think?
Cavey, I got my dream midisleeper for DS on Ebay last week, got to order a mattress now too. DH is plastering his old room at the moment (baby will go in there) and new room still full of junk so he is camping on DD's floor bless 'him.

dizzydixies · 30/03/2008 17:14

PetitFilou1 · 30/03/2008 18:46

Hello all
Can someone tell this baby to move as it is sticking some bit of itself into me and has been all afternoon! 19 weeks tomorrow I think. Nearly half way...

Dizzy I like Gabriel, mentioned it to dh last night and he actually liked it! It may be too out there compared to the other dcs though who have quite traditional names. I wouldn't got for any of the ie ending ones though, there are a million of all those round here (but I do live in SW London) Tallulah, Tabitha, Benedict, Jonty etc are common names round here. None of your Sarahs or Marks.

Dh has his exam tomorrow so thank god no more weekends of looking after the dcs on my own. Nearly went to bed at 8.30 last night as was so tired.
