Spareincoming · 06/01/2024 22:27

@LeeanneD11 Thinking of you; frightening time.

Update we have been admitted overnight and being tested for RSV , and he may need a tube placed to help him feed , or a suction . I will keep you all updated

@Spareincoming thank you so much xx

Spareincoming · 07/01/2024 00:11

@LeeanneD11 i hope the results come through quickly, even for reassurance if it is or isn’t RSV; we were admitted with RSV and complications when LO was 4 weeks old. The suction and feeding tube is to give LO a rest to aid recovery and to whilst it can look distressing, the positive effects are seen very quickly.

GreenAventurinee · 07/01/2024 16:07

@LeeanneD11 hope baby is better this afternoon!

LeeanneD11 · 07/01/2024 16:48

We are in hospital for a few days now , on oxygen and feeding tube xx

Spareincoming · 07/01/2024 17:53

@LeeanneD11 hopefully they’ll get you out quickly; once the doctors were happy LO had peaked we were discharged quite quickly!
I’m hoping you have a decent bed rather than the reclining chairs to get some rest yourself too.

Anyone got any recommendations for clearing up cradle cap?
The shampoo I used on eldest child many moons ago, the only other sufferer, doesn’t seem to exist anymore and LO seems to have developed it overnight! Babies are gross!

His oxygen levels are high and low , and heart rate are high and low , feeding through a tube every hour , just struggling to breathe and cough xx

Sounds exactly the same as for us. The retractions on breathing took ages to go away and that was unnerving, I didn’t want to be discharged until they stopped but we were anyways as it’s a
slow recovery.
You’re in the best place now though.

Yeah I don't think we will be going home anytime soon, we've been tested for sepsis , meningitis & herpes and RSV xx

@Spareincoming

25 mins away from home , I'm an emotional wreck and can't stop crying xx

Thack · 07/01/2024 20:49

Damn buttons! @Spareincoming I'd be interested to hear about cradle cap too. I left it completely on DC 1 (nearly 3yo) and they still have some on their scalp. It's hidden well by hair but both kids now have it!

I've fallen behind her. From days ago .. hub spoke to GP months ago about a vasectomy and is on the wait list. We are two and through.
I need to book into the GP, I might go on Depo while we wait. Celibacy and breastfeeding are our contraceptive right now!

Thack · 07/01/2024 20:53

I had a few nights with bub in hospital a few weeks ago, I was crying away too @LeeanneD11
Try to get sleep when you can, tiredness makes everything worse. I also found having a shower helped me feel more human (I'd been far too long without!)

Are they explaining everything ok?

Yeah they are luckily, his oxygen levels drop rapidly and then go up again and his heart rate is up and then down and then up again,

His on 1oz every 2 hours , to try get his breathing down , as fighting so hard to breath , his got a tube in to help feed , he even had to have a lumbar puncture today too it was heartbreaking, and I I have a worried son at home who is so upset xx

Thack · 07/01/2024 21:25

Wow @LeeanneD11 that is a lot. Sending hugs and strength 💐

Babies bounce back so quickly. Once he turns the corner you'll soon be home. I'm glad they're looking after him till then. You've done so well with it all

TMI2000 · 07/01/2024 21:28

I’m so sorry to hear about your poorly little one @LeeanneD11, fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery!

@reememberly oh don’t worry I’ve definitely taken it very slow and haven’t done anything yet as I haven’t seen the GP to get everything all checked out. I’m definitely feeling better every day and Saturday I will be 8 weeks PP! where does the time go!!!

Alloveragain3 · 07/01/2024 21:31

@LeeanneD11
Bless you, I just saw your update. RSV is such a shit of a virus.
It sounds like your little one is having a similar journey to our DD.

Initially, she was bunged up and coughing, then she found it hard to feed, and then a few days later her breathing got laboured over the course of a few hours. I called 111 for advice and they sent an ambulance as she had chest retraction.

Her oxygen was about 88% and heart rate was high. Then, as she spiked a fever, they had to screen for sepsis.

The lumbar puncture was so hard to watch, as was seeing them try to put canulas in her tiny veins and the feeding tube down.

It was a tough time but the doctors are experts in RSV as it's so common and most babies bounce back really quickly.

I was amazed that my DD was home in a few days and completely back to normal, without even a cough!

Those few days in hospital were tough going, so you have all of my sympathy, and I hope your DS is home soon.

Try to sleep when you can, and to eat the hospital food (though it's not the best). I also discovered a parents room in the ward on my last day, where I could at least make a cup of tea.
