@JoyApple I will probably remove it completely when I do to avoid confusion. I read somewhere that around 6 months is a good time so might do it then. I’m thinking I’ll move her to her own room around that time too but maybe it’s too many changes at once to do it then.

foodislife1 · 22/03/2024 11:06

@Travellingislife @JoyApple @DollyGx my son was very dependent on his dummy and we went cold turkey at 6months. Was surprisingly easy! Times it with move to own room and sleep training so it all fit in quite well.
Hoping to do the same this time

Travellingislife · 22/03/2024 11:58

@foodislife1 that gives me hope!

WriMum22 · 22/03/2024 13:04

Little one is not really fond of a dummy so we’ve luckily had no issues on that front, but since she’s found her voice she has woken at 3am a few times, just laid in her cot shouting and making lots of different sounds. Perfectly happy, just very loud! We’ve decided to leave her unless she cries and she does eventually drop back off to sleep after about 15 mins, but we laugh at how loud she actually gets, and for no reason! So random 😂

Alloveragain3 · 22/03/2024 14:05

Any others started weaning? We're doing early weaning with my 18 week old (doctor's advice) and so far she's tried small amounts of egg, natural yoghurt, pear, brocoli, carrot and peanut butter. She loves it although spits a lot out. It's so different to weaning her brother, who was never much of a foodie.

JoyApple · 22/03/2024 14:49

@Alloveragain3 we started early and age had a few purees and loved them but she was very refluxy so we paused it. I really want to try egg and wheat (the two allergens I am worried about) but not sure I got the energy ATM to deal with the reflux ... I'm not sure if reflux was more because the purees have high content of apple which is quite acidic.

Alloveragain3 · 22/03/2024 14:53

@JoyApple It definitely requires mental energy, no doubt. My DH actually cracked on while I slept a couple of mornings and did egg a few times, so I didn't have to do it!

I've noticed more spitting up and reflux (she kind of gags and crunches her tummy), especially when lying down. But I did read that it peaks at this age, and I guess that makes sense as she drinks a lot of milk and still isn't upright a lot of the time.

We're lucky it doesn't bother her and she's a "happy spitter," so I'm hoping it just resolves itself soon.

Thack · 22/03/2024 19:44

How've vaccinations gone this week for everyone?
I had a fussy baby this morning and after the jabs they've been clingy and a bit out of sorts. Red cheeks with no temp, so I suspect that teeth are in the mix too.
DH got a takeaway tonight, I've had no chance to do anything. The 3yo can have veggies another night to make up!

Nov2023 · 22/03/2024 20:39

@Thack We had a high temperature and a clingy baby after the latest set of vaccinations. He slept a lot of the day after and is perfectly fine since! I can't see any sign of redness in the gums but he has to be teething as he is chewing everything in sight and soaking through a bib an hour or two during the day

A takeaway and a night off cooking sounds like just the cure for you!

Spareincoming · 23/03/2024 14:51

We’ve got an out of sorts LO today; started last night with a few upset tummy nappies and a moderate temperature. Calpol is working its magic but he’s upset with the world and not feeding as well as usual.

My initial thought was virus but DH pointed out none of the usual germy suspects/other DC have shown any sign of illness and then suggested the others started teething like this… I scoffed and said no! there’s not a tooth about to break as there’s not been and still isn’t any gum redness, no teething dribble but! I’ve just felt his gums and there may be a firm spot that wasn’t there before. If this is teething, he’s a month ahead of ALL his siblings who all waited until we were in a lovely routine at 6 months then turned the world upside down with teeth!

@thack thank you for the tv recommendation! I have a vpn and can get iplayer here so I’ll see if I can find it.

I am also waking multiple times a night to replace the dummy. I’m not planning on removing it until after my road trip with her when she’ll be 7 months.

haven’t started weaning yet. Although I’ve had her chewing on a spoon to start preparing. I’m desperate to start now, and she seems very interested in food, but I keep hearing that I should wait till 6 months…my plan is to properly start at about 5- 5.5 months.

i did dip her spoon in Greek yog this week and she brought it right to her mouth and loved it. And last night I gave her a stalk of broccoli to chew on. I say chew. But she has no teeth. But I’ll wait off another 2-3 weeks before I start properly.

does anybody have any issues with a much flatter head on one side? I’ve heard it can be due to a stiff neck, favouring one side when she sleeps. and I did notice she holds herself to the left slightly whilst sitting so I’ve been trying to stretch her out. Spoke to her doctor who just wants to send her for a helmet assessment. But I’d rather get to the root of the problem if it’s due to stiffness.

Spareincoming · 23/03/2024 17:15

@Psqueak87 We’ve been driving the million miles to the osteopath as LO had seemed stiff on one side and had a definite preference for sleeping on one side too; we’re 4 sessions of 5 in and Lo is much improved.

OP posts:
Psqueak87 · 23/03/2024 18:10

@Spareincoming oh interesting. I hadn’t thought of an osteopath. I have her booked in to a physio on April 1st: she does specialize in babies and torticollis so I’m hoping she will shed some light on it.
did your babe end up with a flatter head on one side?

im annoyed at my dr right now as she won’t even entertain that the flat head is the result of stiffness. If she would write me a prescription to physio I would get it completely free as it’s covered under my workplace benefits. But only with a script. So I’m now stuck paying $200 per session for it, obviously worth it if it helps, just irritating that doc won’t listen to me. She keeps telling me a helmet will solve her problems.

I’ll have to look up the difference between osteopath and PT as I have no idea!

Nov2023 · 23/03/2024 18:49

My boy has been seeing a physio for torticollis. They don't fit helmets here unless it is very severe and apparently most cases can be resolved before the baby turns one. Google NHS physio for exercises you could try. I'll give more details if you need help but it's all very simple. Little things like a rolled up towel behind one side to force LO to look to the non preferred side, putting the playmat against a plain wall and the toys on the non preferred side and very gentle stretching. I adjust my baby's head when he is in the sling and sleeping to encourage him to lie on the non flat side. Also be mindful of how you hold your LO spend as much time as possible on tummy.. all of this reduces time spent on the flat side and it will apparently self correct. I can see a difference in my LOs after following these very very simple steps.

Thack · 23/03/2024 19:07

Hope LO is better soon @Spareincoming

We have teeth problems. The gums don't look exciting but the signs are there. Little darling started giving my nipples a bite yesterday and has carried on today. Hopefully I can instill the idea of no biting before the teeth break. It's not too hard a nip at the moment luckily (no pun intended).

@Psqueak87 it's carried Patrôl Pawennau if you search for that.
Moomins is Dyffryn Mwmin.
Quite a few of the kids programs are translated on S4C, although the number of episodes are limited. Sam Tan has plenty of course 😂

Spareincoming · 23/03/2024 19:24

Oh Lord! We’ve got a teething blister appearing. Just had a proper look whilst LO is asleep.
I am not prepared for this, this is a whole month too early as far as I’m concerned!

@Psqueak87 I originally took LO to the osteo about his reflux and saw the GP about the tightness, the GP said they could refer to physio but the wait may be significant but they knew other parents had gone privately to physio and osteo…
One side of Lo’s did seem a little flatter but the osteo gave us some exercises and asked if we did tummy time and how we held Lo if contact napping.
I know that helmets aren’t routine in the nhs, as in most cases the flattening disappears over time.

Psqueak87 · 23/03/2024 21:54

@Nov2023 @Spareincoming thanks so much for the tips. I did look on YouTube for a few stretches and I started them about a month ago, and she has gone from always sleeping on her left side, to sleeping on either side pretty equally. She still can only roll back to belly going left, never right. But I’ll see if I can find some more info on the NHS. The difference is still really noticeable. I’m hoping it will correct itself now that she’s using the right side a bit more. I’ll add a photo below where I thought it was very obvious.

I’ll see what my PT says, if she confirms she has torticollis I’ll go back to the doc to see if she will do the script. I’ve just looked into osteopaths in the area too.

@Thack how did I forget about Sam tan? I should be ashamed. I do have a “nadolig cyntaf smot” book which I took great pleasure in trying to get my BF to read. Lol.

Hello,

Hope everyone's well.

Any signs of the sleep regression? How's everyone coping with naps? My baby will be 17 weeks tomorrow and is really struggling to go down for a nap. She is crying a lot due to being overtired 😩

LeeanneD11 · 25/03/2024 17:42

Hi

Is there any formula fed babies on here , I have a question for you all about it my Baby is currently on kendamil having 6oz every 3 hours but his cries after a feed , how many oz is your baby having and how long they going for? Also which formula milk is thick enough? So he can go longer , as I have tried everything possible now and nothing is helping so I'm thinking of changing his milk to thicker one but not sure what one to go for , does anyone have any recommendations xx

Spareincoming · 25/03/2024 19:49

@LeeanneD11 We’re formula feeding; Kendamil is the most gentle milk I find; the thicker milk -
hungry baby stuff does have a tendency to constipate little ones; would you be prepared to give 7oz?
We’re making bottles of 7oz every 4 hours during the day, but Lo is often stopping around the 6oz mark.

@user666555 no sign of the regression here and baby is 20 weeks tomorrow. I wonder if I just missed it as she’s never been a great sleeper…she went super fussy on her food about 3 weeks ago, and it lasted 2 weeks. It was a struggle to get her to eat more than an oz at a time, that could have been it as I’ve heard fussiness is another sign. But sleep wise, no difference at all.

@LeeanneD11 my girl is formula fed, she gets 6oz every 3 hours, she cries just before we feed her (as I’m setting her up with the bib). And sometimes even during, but never after. I use Hipp organic. Not sure if it’s thick, as it’s the only one I’ve tried.

I'm prepared to do anything , I have slowly started weaning but so Farley rusks in the morning , but I will try to up his oz and see how we get on xx

Spareincoming · 25/03/2024 20:13

@LeeanneD11 I’ve found that baby porridge made with formula is a good one to fill them up. This LO won’t touch it though, and neither will the dog!

Is that the kendamil one? I wan to try that one , but haven't seen much review about it xx

DollyGx · 25/03/2024 20:19

@user666555 yep naps are hell for us atm 🙃 lots of tears! She does eventually go down but sometimes it’s only for 20/30 min and then she’s shattered all over again. Just started using the huckleberry app at the weekend to see if that could help with naps, so far it’s been pretty accurate but she is still fighting her sleep. She’ll be 19 weeks this week so I’m hoping this will end soon, in saying that she’s never been a good sleeper (day or night) so this is maybe just her 😅
