@LeeanneD11 i wondered the same as my little girl also hates her bassinet - we seem to have very similar babies it sounds like. Pretty rough going isn’t it? I’m really struggling today after 2 really bad days. Still waiting on starting to enjoy this motherhood thing ☹️

hi @user666555 you are more than welcome. That sounds like my baby too! We literally tip toe around her all day/night and yes the naps seem to be getting shorter which is tough as she really needs her sleep! She also has silent reflux and I did wonder about CMPA as she’s never been a settled baby, cries ALOT. Mentioned it twice to my Gp and she fobbed me off with reflux meds instead which don’t work. Can I ask what other symptoms your bubs has?

I took the plunge and now has swapped to the biggest seat and he seems much happier. Yes we have very similar babies just like to constantly sit up I have hit the depression side which is not great xx

Hi @DollyGx thank you!

So my DD has the following symptoms:

  • Crying hysterically for hours - I know all babies cry/most experience colic, but this crying is a very painful cry. It would last most of the day.
  • Breathing shallow, took her to A&E twice before I was told about CMPA due to breathing.
  • Eczema on her forehead
  • Terrible reflux symptoms
  • Refusing feeds mid feed
  • Upset stomach (some babies can have constipation)
  • Congestion/noisy breathing

I think doctors are reluctant to diagnose CMPA because the symptoms do overlap with colic/reflux. However, I called 111 one evening as I was struggling with her crying so much and the out of hours GP did a questionnaire with me and based on that she said it sounds like a CMPA. She then got prescribed Aptamil Pepti 1. Although I do believe she needs Neocate as she still has a lot of the above symptoms.

I'd recommend Googling the CMPA guidelines for your local area. You should then use those guidelines to speak to the GP about why you believe it is CMPA and not just reflux. I'd also keep going back as if it's CMPA the medication for reflux will not do much, so hopefully when you keep going back they'll understand it's not just reflux. What's your LO's weight gain like? My DD does gain weight (although somewhat slow as she was born early) so I think that's why we got fobbed off for a bit. But the out of hours doctor was quite good.

I've included a part of my local guidelines to give you an idea as to the differing symptoms, hope you get answers.

@LeeanneD11 I think I will try the other seat soon too. Oh I’m sorry to hear that :( I think I may be going down the same road, feeling very low and cry pretty much all the time atm, it’s grim! At Gp again next week so will chat to her then.

@user666555 thank you so much for that it’s really useful! Sounds similar to my wee girl although she’s never had any skin issues which I think is why the Gp dismissed CMPA. Yes same as your LO she gains weight well, she is a smaller baby (25th centile) but has always stayed on track and never dropped below that. It’s bloody exhausting isn’t it! Hope your LO is doing better now.

LeeanneD11 · 20/02/2024 13:45

@DollyGx

It's horrible., especially when you have 3 other kids too . It's heartbreaking I'm crying daily and I'm so up & down 😢

I'm hoping the GP can help me a little

I hope your ok xx

@user666555 naps are so individual. Some babies just have short naps. Will baby nap for longer if she’s on you? In a baby carrier or sling.

My DS only ever napped for 40 minutes unless he was on me. Haha and I think it took him about 7 months to nap for longer than 10 minutes on his own. But he was never that cross about short naps.

My DD will sleep for hours in her pram or on me and really needs the sleep, since newborn she’s really needed her sleep in the day.

Noise wise I find it helps if it’s a bit noisey when they go off to sleep. I often leave the radio on or white noise if I’m pottering about. We have a white noise machine clipped onto the pram so it’s always there if she falls asleep when we’re out and about.

DollyGx · 20/02/2024 15:12

Can’t even imagine how hard that must be @LeeanneD11 💔 I feel exactly the same. Some days good, other days terrible. Do you have much support? Take whatever help the Gp offers. I don’t even know how you use the message function on this but please feel free to message me any time as I know exactly how you’re feeling. Not sure what age your baby is, mines is 14 weeks tomorrow and according to the wonder weeks app is going through a ‘leap’ atm so I’m expecting extra fussiness. I wouldn’t mind so much if I hadn’t already been dealing with a fussy baby for the past 12 weeks already 🥲

That's very kind of you, my baby is 13 weeks old tomorrow , it's horrible I'll give you a message shortly once I figure it out too 😂😂 xx

Travellingislife · 20/02/2024 15:29

@2023novbaby Our LO has been in sort of a routine for a while, she napes every 1.5h-2h and around 6-6:30pm she goes to bed for the night, I just change her into pj’s and feed her. I have her downstairs with me until I go to bed and give her a dream feed upstairs when I do. I wish I could stay up longer than 8-9pm but I’m exhausted so I go to bed then. I’ve started having a camera on her though if the house is particularly noisy/ busy - she naps upstairs on her own then or she wouldn’t sleep. I feel comfortable with doing that now, she is soon 13 weeks. I wouldn’t leave her all night but naps or a few hours I feel happy with. I do go up and check regularly too and you can see her breathing on the camera.

LeeanneD11 · 20/02/2024 15:48

@DollyGx

I've private messaged you xx

LeeanneD11 · 20/02/2024 15:53

@DollyGx

Have to go on website to send a private message , the app doesn't allow you too xx

Spareincoming · 20/02/2024 16:13

@DollyGx We’re having to use omeprazole because of the surgery and it’s definitely making Lo’s gaviscon related constipation worse. We’d got to the point of having a daily a maintenance dose of lactualose but have gone back to full dose today.
DP thinks at least one of the other omeprazole taking DC had similar problems, and very dark green poo too! I’ve obviously blocked that out but wonder if that’s the child who’s the paediatrician said “any
of the colours you’d find in a forest coloured poo is fine” which has been sort of helpful over the years…

@LeeanneD11 we've been using the big seat in the buggy with a newborn insert and cosy toes from about week 2 as the reflux makes Lo hate the bassinet and lying flat.

OP posts:
DollyGx · 20/02/2024 16:44

@Spareincoming ah ok so it could well be the omeprazole, yes her poo has turned a bit green too actually! If it’s no better by tomorrow I’ll get onto the gp about maybe getting some lactulose!

Nov2023 · 22/02/2024 21:07

Hi ladies. Can I ask what you do if your baby goes to sleep early? My LO is finally starting to settle and stay asleep around 8 or 9. I have been staying with him but does anyone have a monitor at this stage? And any monitor recommendations please? Silly question but do they work in the dark or do I also need a night light?

WriMum22 · 23/02/2024 06:17

@Nov2023 My little girl is the same but I’m still coming up to bed with her and laying in my bed. Most of the time I go to sleep myself but sometimes I’ll lay there on my phone etc. I think as the evenings get lighter, I’ll buy a monitor and will use that instead of coming up to bed with her, but I’m not ready to do that yet because i still like doing it.

Nov2023 · 23/02/2024 06:22

I spoke too soon, we are awake now and have been for almost all of the night! Hope it was just a bad night. I enjoyed my week of sleep and want it to stay another while longer!

foodislife1 · 23/02/2024 08:02

@Nov2023 I sometimes keep her downstairs with me in the dark living room and she sleeps in the sleepyhead. When we're ready to go up we transfer her to her cot.

Although this week the regression has hit hard so it's a bit all over the place. She's waking up every hour for the second half of the night :/

foodislife1 · 23/02/2024 08:03

@Nov2023 the monitors work in the work in the dark. The image on your screen will look like 'night vision'

Nov2023 · 23/02/2024 08:28

@foodislife1 Thank you! I hope your LO settles soon. I think we are too soon for a regression here as he is barely 3 months.. Hopefully just a bad night or linked to his jabs. Will get a monitor this weekend so I have options anyway

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 23/02/2024 21:31

Mine hit 11 weeks yesterday and has been a very unhappy camper. Last night slept in 45 min stints max from 1am 😭 he wants to feed constantly but keeps throwing up, and we're having 5/6 big pooey nappies a day which are more smelly than usual. He's also doing a lot of farting. He's still peeing lots and light colour so don't think dehydrated or anything but no idea if this is normal or something wrong. Poor guy wakes himself up scratching at his eyes and pulling at his mouth and screams like he's in pain. He even wimpers for a while when first put on boob and won't latch well initially. He's fine if he's being held but if he's in crib or even safe cosleeping position its game over.

Alloveragain3 · 24/02/2024 13:25

@FlyingHighFlyingLow

Oh, I hate when they get too upset or tired to feed, it is so frustrating.

My DD is 15 weeks and last night she woke up every 45 mins too. I guess this is the start of the regression.

She had been waking every 2 to 3 hours so I'm not a fan of this step back :(

We're out for dinner at a friends tonight and MIL and FIL are watching her so I really hope she's not too fussy for them and she takes the bottle. We've been giving a bottle every evening but she's begun to refuse it from DH and only wants it from me!

Crazybrowncow · 25/02/2024 16:49

We've got chickenpox, it's horrible, my DC1 (3yo) had it last week and now my 15wk old has it. I really hope the spots stop soon and he starts to feel a bit better. ☹️

reememberly · 26/02/2024 09:07

Oh no @Crazybrowncow that sounds rotten. Hope it’s a mild case!

Spareincoming · 26/02/2024 13:52

@Crazybrowncow oh no! I do hope you’re getting some sleep.
I’m getting flashbacks of weeks of poor sleep - I think we had a month of always seeming to have one DC sat in an oat bath or being coated in Calomine whilst it worked it‘s way through the family as the DC and their cousins bounced it between them!

DollyGx · 28/02/2024 10:01

Hi ladies - has anyone had a tongue tie division carried out on their baby? We are having it done on Sunday, just wondered if there was a lot of crying? I hate the thought of her in pain although I know it will be over quickly, it’s freaking me out a bit!
