@Thack Lo is doing well, still very anaesthetic tired but smilely when awake.
Lo currently has an NG tube that’s been used for two slow feeds; I think from what’s been said it will remain in place until the middle of tomorrow; the nurse has said to try and give a bottle feed when they wake up next.
Lo has tolerated taking pain killers and omeprazole orally tonight so here’s hoping they can manage a bottle.
At this stage it’s a case of expecting to have a lot of gagging and spluttering going on due to swelling. Though the surgeon thought swelling was fairly minimal.
I hadn’t realised they would prescribe omeprazole otherwise I’d have requested to start it a few weeks ago for maximum effect.

Uber is none existent where we are too! And there’s 5g signal! I feel very city-naive here, despite spending my teenage years not that far away at all!

@foodislife1 will baby nap in a sling? I find it so valuable for letting DD nap whilst I get on with stuff with her brother and cook dinner 😂 It sounds like you’ve started the sleep regression tbh.

Will she feed lying down at night? We mostly co sleep and it makes night feeds so easy. I hardly wake up, don’t get out of bed, don’t look at the clock just shove a boob in her mouth and go back to sleep. I don’t know we didn’t do this with DS 😂

Glad it went well @Spareincoming hope you get home soon.

foodislife1 · 16/02/2024 22:16

@PinkPlantCase you read my mind! I got it out this evening and she's been sleeping (like a baby!) for over 3 hours. Will ride out the regression and hope for the best thereafter!

JoyApple · 16/02/2024 22:57

We've hit the sleep regression too I think. Went from sleeping through 11-7 or so, to waking up around 2.30-3 for a feed.

She's also showing signs for food. I wonder if it is linked to hunger?

My LO is high risk of allergies so we are thinking of weaning her around 4-5 months based on guidelines.

JoyApple · 16/02/2024 23:00

@PinkPlantCase the shove boob thing is what I did with my previous LO. Does your LO ever have gas issues?

Wondering as my current LO who is formula fed, I can't imagine not burping her, as she'd be so upset. But I remember with my breastfed one I hardly burped her and definitely not at night. I'm just wondering now in hindsight whether that might have contributed to her being so unsettled.

Travellingislife · 17/02/2024 02:48

@Spareincoming great news about the op! I can’t imagine all the worry you must’ve been through. Just eat isn’t available where we live - thankfully I’d say.. It would be way too easy to get it all the time.
Hope your LO is feeling ok after the op and that you get to go home as planned.

Travellingislife · 17/02/2024 02:52

My DD just turned 3 months and I think we’re in a leap, very fussy and super short naps. She’s been fussing all night too. Apparently this is a big developmental stage and it lasts for over a month.. I hope it won’t be too painful though 🤞🏼

We had our 12 week jabs on Tuesday and she was fine, didn’t need calpol.

PinkPlantCase · 17/02/2024 08:32

@JoyApple neither DD or DS have been gassy thankfully. I burped DD early on because she would get really cross in the evenings but we worked out that she was cross because naps weren’t quite right right her. I don’t think I’ve burped her since we got the naps sorted and she’s been fine.

Alloveragain3 · 17/02/2024 10:19

@JoyApple We're doing early weaning too and I'm anxious! Dd's brother has lots of allergies and she has some eczema so they want us to give egg and nut butter from 4 months. Eep.

At least we've been giving some formula each day so we can hopefully rule out a dairy allergy (one of DS's worst allergy)

Spareincoming · 17/02/2024 11:43

@Alloveragain3 Have you been recommended a way to try egg and nut butter?
We were told to do this as part of early weaning with our last DC, expecting to be told the same again with this LO but we don’t get any guidance on how to actually do it!

OP posts:
JoyApple · 17/02/2024 11:51

@Alloveragain3 We are in the same boat as well. Formula fed but my other baby had multiple food allergies. I'm also not sure exactly when to start and what to start with. Not sure whether to start with baby rice first or veg/fruit purees for a week. Then move onto allergens in the second week? I think I'm thinking starting with very well cooked egg mushed (or in something baked that doesn't contain the other allergens 🤔), then peanut butter, then baked wheat, then the other nuts, and then milk, then soya? Have a 3 day gap between each allergen?

This is useful as a reference but I wish there were more specific guidelines, as I am nervous (edited: page 13 is actually quite helpful):

JoyApple · 17/02/2024 11:57

@Alloveragain3 @Spareincoming shall we create a separate thread so we can support each other and keep updated on how early weaning is going and any tips etc?

Alloveragain3 · 17/02/2024 12:04

@JoyApple Oh yes, I'd love a separate thread on this, fab idea. It's quite niche but definitely an area where we all need a bit of support, I feel. I'm still recovering from the stress of weaning DS, thanks to many reactions!

It seems you've got a great rough plan, which I may well copy.

@spareincoming My DS's allergist just said to introduce early (from 4 months) and to keep giving regularly, no specific advice.

She has told us to treat any eczema aggressively, so we've been whacking steroids on as soon as her skin gets flared up. This way, she should be less likely to be sensitised to foods through her skin before she can be weaned.

She said to avoid baby led weaning as too much food goes on the skin. Instead, spoon feed purees.

I'll also probably but some barrier cream around her mouth before feeding time.

Spareincoming · 17/02/2024 12:31

@JoyApple yes please! We’ve always had to early wean so you’d think I’d have a clue… but I really don’t and get myself in knots at times!

We are weaning from 5 months as advised by the paediatric consultant due to reflux. Little girl is 4 months now and so a month to go. I can’t believe we are almost at the next big milestone which is weaning! I have been bursting in to tears recently when I think about how quick it’s all going, especially because she is my last and hubby is booked in for a vasectomy next week! It’s the right thing for us as we have three beautiful children and feel very content, but it’s sad to know there will be a finality to it if that makes sense.

Little girl is sleeping through and has for a while now but I can see signs of the 4 month regression creeping in so I fear we could be back to nighttime feeds or general fussiness very soon but that’s fine as I know we’ve been very lucky. She’s been such a breath of fresh air so far, as our son didn’t sleep through till he was 3 and he’s 4 now and still goes at least once or twice a week where he wakes in the night!

Thack · 17/02/2024 19:19

Second baby is definitely going faster!

I'm waiting untill six months for weaning. I was soo stressed about it last time and I know I will be stressed a little bit again this time!

We did BLW, but not the full militant version. Did some pouches for ease. When LO started nursery they said they were much better eater than others the same age. I BF too at that point so had no worries about how much food was consumed.
Older one was never a good sleeper. Food would not have made a difference.

LeeanneD11 · 17/02/2024 19:32

My little one is now 3 months old and we've been so through so much to the point I've not enjoyed this stage I'm hoping the next stage I will enjoy my reasons behind this is cause of the milk , we have now spoke to a dietitian finally and she has told me to try carobel , and if that doesn't work we are being put on a cow milk allergy milk - neocate milk instead to try , I'm hoping something works as I've tried so many milks and me trying to breastfeed is very stressful 😢😢 xx

Thack · 17/02/2024 20:27

@LeeanneD11 how would you feel if you didn't breastfeed?
If you'd truly be Ok without it, not just the line we say to appease others but in your heart, then it'd be kinder to yourself to save the stress and either stop or to aim for an achievable volume each day.

Only you can decide what you want and I am in awe at what you have done 💐 you are amazing!

I took 8 weeks to get DC1 on the breast. It is hard going and hits so many emotions.

Hopefully the new milk will make a difference quickly 🤞

I loved breastfeeding but he wouldn't latch on and I think it's down to tongue tie , and he wasn't sick with my milk, I will keep trying I think , I'm trying my best atm and I just want my boy settled as his not settled after each feed and I get upset about it , I've tried various things and nothing seems to be working xx

JoyApple · 17/02/2024 23:23

@LeeanneD11 it is extremely extremely tough with an allergy baby who isn't settling! Only those who have been through it can even begin to imagine how tough it is. Happy mummy = happy baby! You do what is best for you. In your situation I wouldn't think again about putting baby on hypo allergenic formula. In fact, this time round I didn't even bother breastfeeding as I couldn't bare the thought of going through what I did with my first who had multiple food allergies and was extremely unsettled, was exclusively breastfed and when I tried putting her on formula, she completely refused.

We are not sure if he is but this why we are going through everything to narrow it down this is what the dietitian has recommended we do so it's basically a trial and error , I would love to try again but not sure where to start tbh his such a happy content baby but just after every feed his sick and constantly upset I feel like I'm getting no where , we are currently on kendamil milk but feel like it's not working for him and his still being sick that's why she told me to carobel and it doesn't work then it will be allergy milk xx

JoyApple · 17/02/2024 23:34

@WriMum22 sounds like a little bundle of joy! It hits very differently when an easy one comes after a tough one.

How is your LOs reflux now? I feel like ours has improved a lot since she's been sitting up. With night time, she's waking up quite a bit but settling with dummy. I think it's disturbing my sleep alot though and making my body hurt and causing inflammation and morning allergies :(

WriMum22 · 18/02/2024 07:47

@JoyApple it definitely does 🙂

we have found the exact same to be honest, there’s been a definite improvement since she’s been able to hold her head and sit up straight, we saw the paediatrician and I told him and he said when they can sit up, it can help a lot. He also said the seasons can contribute to it, so reflux tends to be worse in the winter as they have lots of colds and sniffles and that can aggravate reflux, so he said we should find more improvement as we enter into spring. Since she’s been holding her head and sitting up though, we’ve barely needed to use Gaviscon and we’ve been able to stop Omeprazole altogether which has been great. She still has reflux, but I’m hoping that weaning should finally clear it when that time comes 🤞🏻

Is anyone experiencing the dreaded post partum hair loss?

I’m almost four months PP now and it’s really picking up. I’m losing so much throughout the day, it’s literally getting all over the house and then when I come to wash and dry my hair, i feel like I could make a wig with the amount of hair that comes out, it’s literally a ball of hair by the time I’ve finished blow drying. Ive noticed I’m thinning around my hair line too which is frustrating as it seems to be targeted right at the point of my parting at the front of my head, so the part that’s on show and not covered! At this point I’m just preying I’ve reached the peak! I remember seeing a dramatic improvement with my son around 5 months PP at which point it eased and went back to normal hair loss.. another month to go 🙈

JoyApple · 18/02/2024 09:09

@WriMum22 sorry can't help with the hair loss. I feel like I was losing alot before LO came too.

How many days did it take for your LOs one to recover from the second jabs? We are planning a family outing (long over due) and wondering whether LO is likely to ok with just 1 day gap between jabs and outing. The first one took a good few days for her to recover.
