Socks and shoe putting on is now accompanied by rather delightful grunting and sighing from me

Peachy · 19/03/2008 09:19

The divyne orakle hath revealth that zis babie wilt be borned on 28th Maerch- this iz a matter of utmost correktness and reliability since that souyrce of wisdom and inscrutability known as 'DH's Work Rosta' staytes that it must be so.

Seriously LOL- says on his rota that his paternity starts then.

So I think we can safely guarantee that it won't come on that day then

Molly- you might find you have laods of energy post birth, I always have had and have warned my Doula that anyone who tries to make me lie down or pops me in a wheelchair afterwards tends to get told off LOL! Even with ds1 when the pg and labour almost killed me, I was 100% recovered immediately I delivered. With ds1 I was hwlping on the ward by 9am (he was born at 3 am, I was in bed for 6am after bathing etc). Actually it was a good job I felt OK as MIL came round at teatime and refused to leave until 11pm, kept making me fetch her drinks and banishing me to the bedroom to breastfeed- IF she turns up this time she can leave, take herself up to the bedroom if she wishes.... but I will never again be abrred from BF in my own house- what was that about????

christmaspixie · 19/03/2008 09:25

Wow, can't believe the amount of posts since I last looked!! That joke really made me laugh...(a good thing when I just feel soooo terribly emotional these days!! ) I can't believe some of you are due in 9 days!! I still have 4 weeks left. But I'm fed up, please come early baby!! (At least a week would be good!)

Is anyone else puffing up a lot? By the evening now my ankles look like balloons. And I can't get my rings off, and they're cutting in to my finger!! Not sure if it's okay to be having so much water retention at 36+1...any ideas to reduce it? Sure I didn't have it till right at end last time??

Also, Gem, my total sympathies. My dd was in Special care for only a week and it nearly broke my heart that I couldn't hold her.

Peachy · 19/03/2008 09:30

CP My MW says that as long as its only feet / ankles its not a problem, just a sign that your day ahs ended and it is time to rest. Mine balloon up huge now- but as long as its just them I dont worry, the day my face went too though I ahd to go have my BP / bloods done JIC.

V1KK1M · 19/03/2008 09:38

Hi,

Just to put your mind at rest...I started to engage (1/5th) at 36 weeks and was fully engaged yesterday (37+6 wks).

I can now feel the pressure every time I stand up and I scare the life out of everyone with my 'ohhs' when it moves

Started having some contractions now, although they are not too painful or regular at the moment so will keep you all posted (although I am 38 weeks today so I think it might be some wishful thinking and will probably go a week overdue)

TheMaskedPoster · 19/03/2008 10:00

oooo - it is all very, very exciting with contractions and what have you

I currently have a man in (oo-er) to look at the phone cable as our phone isn't working properly and, by heck, I will need it working extremely properly very soon!!!

Carey87 · 19/03/2008 10:07

So really Ive got a couple of weeks to go. Phew!!

Thank you x

KnitterInTheNW · 19/03/2008 10:15

Morning all,

I can't join in with the talk of being engaged or not, instead I have a head under my right ribs and feet kicking my bladder!

If I get a single contraction or my waters break I have to phone the labour ward straight away cos they don't want me to go into labour.

It's very odd having a date when my baby will be here, it's kind of like a shopping list or list of things to do... 'Tuesday, go and buy nursing bras. Wednesday, change spare bed and make sure bag is packed. Thursday, have baby'. Very 'organised' and I do feel a bit cheated of not being able to experience 'proper' childbirth (iyswim) at least I know I'll get to meet him in 8 days time. Trying to look on the bright side!

Do you think I'll be next then or do you think a few more will sneak in/pop out in the mean time?!

bunnyrabbit · 19/03/2008 10:20

Hi guys, just a quickie (I think that's what got us in this state in the first place!)

Working from home this morning as I have MW this PM. Still have horrible sore throat and cough but have managed to eat a slice of toast this morning so think sickness etc has gone.

Will try and get some chores done today, although I really don't feel like it. Think LO has moved down further than the 3/5 he was at 35 weeks so will find out this PM.

LOL at Carey's joke.

KITN, there are so many plusses as well, you know exactly how much food to get in, when your DP needs to be off work, when you can invite people round/plan to go out. I was 10 days late last time and it was the longest 10 days of my life!!

Ellie, I'm in all day tomorrow but as it's my last day I intend to spend my time saying good bye to everyone and clearing my desk. Except for the one meeting someone has booked for me! PIA... I've handed everything over to him so why do I need to be there?? Hope you haven't any work planned!

And if your name is Brian, then you and PFJ have much to discuss, expecially where the foetus will gestate!

Catch up with you later ladies...

BR

bunnyrabbit · 19/03/2008 10:22

Oh and the moses basket seems to be ok. Doesn't smell of anything now....

Just waiting for the new mattress to arrive.
(and pads for my TENS)

SuzeM · 19/03/2008 10:32

Knitter, that must be strange alright.

Peachy, so your dh's boss has magnanimously agreed that your dh is entitled to paternity leave then!

Carey, I like it, going to forward that on.

TLSM, sorry your boss is giving you a hard time.

I heard rumours that my dad was planning on coming over before the baby, he is great but a bit full on. I have loads to do (haven't got a cot/carseat amongst other necessities, cleared out junk room so cot will fit, sorted out tax and wound down my company, etc) and am working until the end of next week so I asked him to wait until after, I feel a bit mean but I only have 3.5 weeks left so it's time to be firm with people, I feel.

Mollyfloss · 19/03/2008 10:41

Morning ladies!

So much for staying off sweet stuff. Everybody is tempting me. Yesterday someone gave me a cup cake and then someone else brought me around Lindt mini eggs which I've already opened and the rest of the packet is just crying out to me from the fridge. I can actually hear them - "eat me eat me!"

On top of that my Mum said that she discussed with my Aunts and my counsin over the weekend the size of the bridsemaid dress for me and they are still going with a size 10 So if I have gained 15 or 16 kilos how much realistically can I hope to lose of that in 10 weeks? If I can loose 8 kilos then I sohuld fit into a size 10 I think...

Peachy: banishing you to the bedroom to bf!!! that's awful. I plan to bf whenever and wherever with a muslin over my shoulder and everyone will just have to get used to it. Noone will see a thing anyway once I get the hang of it.

On the engaged thing, I've gone from 4/5 to 1/5 an dthen back to 3/5 and don't know eher I am now but think I might be around 2/5 as it feels like it has dropped a bit again...

ThePFJ · 19/03/2008 10:47

Just call me Loretta!! -BR

V1kk1 - hope everything is ok, will be watching for an update on those contractions!

Nothing more 'show wise' this morning. My maternity bed mats only arrived this morning and so last night I slept on a towel. My nipples started leaking a little bit, but thats it. The towel did manage to upset my newly shaven leg though, and I have a small rash there now.. grr.

Bank Smart sent me a letter this morning saying LTSB may finally now refund my 6 years worth of bank charges and I am first in the queue if I can prove hardship. Cross your fingers girls, if all goes well thats over 1300 pounds for me and LO to spend!
I have been waiting well over a year now for that to progress. If you are waiting for bank charges refunds nows the time to check up on them!
If not then check out the banksmart website.
(its the one with a picture of a vault on it)

Peachy · 19/03/2008 10:48

Suze yep tehya greed once Dh mentioned ACAS- funny that .

Can see why tehya re panicking- line manager has given himself Easter off, team mate has handed in notice, clerk has developed a rep for being sick on religious holidays and going back home (he's from abroad), that leaves one clerk and DH's opposite number, who is so awful DH has to clear up after him ona regular basis.

As theyc annot operate with less than 3 staff members and what they do is the most time sritical in their field, shall be interesting.....

elfsmummy · 19/03/2008 11:08

Morning all.

Long time no post and you've all nearly filled a thread already.

Carey with my DD I was eventually induced at term plus 10 and even at that point she still hadn't engaged! So don't panic yet. At least you won't need to wee every 5 minutes!

Can't believe some babies have arrived already.

Went to a day of antenatal classes yesterday. Met some lovely women but the info they provided was pretty rubbish IMHO! Felt sorry for all the first timers there. The breastfeeding info was shocking.

Only 3 weeks til term now ......

chipmonkey · 19/03/2008 11:26

Nolly, that sounds like a lot of weight to HAVE to lose. I really don't think you're supposed to lose more than half a pound a week if you're bf, and even if you're not it's a tall order and can't be good for you. Could you ask them to get it in a 12, say, and then it could always be taken in at the last minute if you do lose all the weight.

chipmonkey · 19/03/2008 11:26

Sorry, I meant Molly!

VictorianPASqualor · 19/03/2008 11:37

Morning all, sorry I didnt come back last night when you asked about my Tv thingy but I had the guys here for about two hours trying to get an interview and me posting on MN on film

Baby isn't engaged ehre either, mw did a check yesterday said s/he is still free but it is my third so no problem.

RE: paternity leave, well DP was apparently having the first week of april off and the third week, according to his boss, how do they expect you to plan paternity leave???

He has spoken to the personnel woman yesterday though and apparently he gets two days full pay and then statutory pay.

Also he has just taken over a whole new client base as his colleague left so is dealing with a lot of shit that was left for him and has decided he might use some of his holiday and have half days for about 3weeks, that way we don't lose out on money, his clients don't all get foobared (for some reason every time he is off for a day something gets proper messed up and he doesn't want to risk it) Plus he'd be able to take DD to school still and would be home for about 12:30pm.

Plus if he is doing it that way then no-one is covering for him so if baby isn't here during the first week he should be able to change the dates booked quite easily. Thankfully the woman sorting it isn't an arsehole like his boss.

PortAndLemon · 19/03/2008 11:38

Molly, you should lose around 5 kilos of that almost right away just through having the baby and losing the amniotic fluid and placenta. You may find that the weight starts to drop off if you are bf, in which case you shouldn't have a problem, so long as your chest hasn't inflated too much.

EllieG · 19/03/2008 11:41

Ow ow ow have eaten too much chocolate cake I think I have broken my tummy

ToastAddict · 19/03/2008 11:44

Elfsmummy - my antenatal classes have been pants
In the first one, a lady asked "what does a contraction feel like?" - not an unreasonable question, for a first-timer. The midwife's response? "Well, actually, I've never had a baby, so can't really tell you"
Yeah, lady, but this is your job, you should be able to be a bit more helpful than that.
Last week was the "pain" class, most of that was fine, but she then did "induction and C sections" in the last 5 minutes of the class, I'm not joking. Such a small amount of info. And earlier she had said that 25% of women end up having a CS. So why not give us a bit more info?
She never even mentioned sweeps when talking about induction, just said "we put some gel on your cervix, it takes ages to work, you'll probably need a drip"

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

We have the "everything you need to know about how to look after your baby" one this afternoon. Not holding my breath! As someone said earlier, thank GOD for MN!!!

Mollyfloss · 19/03/2008 11:57

Chipmonkey: Of the 15 or 16 kilos I've put on don't a few of them fall off straight away? 3 or 4 for the baby, 1 for the fluid, 500G for the placenta etc? So maybe at the end of the first two weeks I would have lost 6 kilos, then I would have 8 weeks to lose another 2 or 3 kilos which would total to a loss of say 8 kilos which should be enough for me to fit into a size 10 as I was size 8 before. Does that make sense or does it not happen like that at all?

VictorianPASqualor · 19/03/2008 12:01

IME, it's not just the weight, it's your body shape, you're gonna have curves m'lady.

And losing the weight is much harder if you have to have a CS, so fingers crossed for a natural birth.

You may do it though! Try not to fret, there are a lot more important things than fitting into a dress.

Mollyfloss · 19/03/2008 12:06

Exactly VS! Actually although I was not that big before I always had curves anyway, wasn't a skinny flat type, fairly hourglass but slim. I thought it would be easier to get a 12 but then I only get to try it on the day before the wedding and I wouldn't really have time to get it altered. My own bridemaids dresses were roomy so that must be how these one's are. I'll just have to trust their judgement because they've seen the dress and me and they have all breastfed etc

Mollyfloss · 19/03/2008 12:12

When I think of all the posting I've done on weight etc. I must sound like a total paranoid weight freak. The funny thing is I eat like a bloody horse. My DH calls me 'the machine'. I am quite fascinated by the way the body changes in pregnancy and even more fascinating that it can go back to how it was before. I still get quite a shock when I see myself in the mirror.

I think I got lucky with my antenatal class. The teacher was pretty good and although quite pro-natural was not too hippy etc. Shefully went through caesarians and bottle feeding etc. which was good and reminded everyone that the most important thing was to love their baby and at the end of the day don't let anything get in the way of that as that's all that really matters
