After a bit of cajoling from some friends (some of whom I hope can join me here soon), I decided to take the plunge and start this thread.

Anyway, I have just found out I am pregnant again, got a BFP on Saturday 23rd at 12dpo, which gives me an EDD of 3rd November 2008 (or the 4th, depending on which calculator I use). This is my 4th pregnancy and will be my 3rd child. I am super excited and a little scared & nervous after a previous missed miscarriage.

I hope I don't get too lonely waiting for more BFP's to roll in! Please come and join me.

Do some places not have 'community' midwives? I'm seeing my doctor this afternoon for the first time (six weeks today!!) and on the phone he said I won't see the midwife till 12 weeks for booking in. I guess that will be at my scan at the hospital?! Is that different to seeing a community midwife (you can tell I've got a 5 year gap, can't you?). Seems a long way off ... is anyone else waiting this long to see a mw?

I'm getting myself in a tizzy here as DS2 had shingles last week and now I've noticed that a funny spot I had on my leg has gone all crusty like a chickenpox spot! I am probably being a totally lunatic as I've had chickenpox but all sorts of crazy thoughts are running through my head!

We have always had CMW care in my area, or at least since I have been having children, lol! I find that it is only the bookingh appt that is done at home, the rest are done at the surgeries around here. I think the thing with CMW's is that you may see 2 or 3 different MW's through your whole pregnancy, that was certainly the case with ds2 as the midwife I was "assigned" was off on long term sick. The midwife who filled most of the time is the midwife I was told will be my primary carer this time and I am happy with that.

I am off to the dr shortly to see if he will refere me for na early scan. After doing well and making it to 7 weeks, the stress and worries have set in and the stress can't be good for the baby. I am hoping that with my history he takes pity on me. I guess that even if I do get refered it will be next week and I will be 8+ weeks by then.

Today I told the first person outside of you guys and my husband!A recruitment consultant who I hardly know. He had an ideal job for me but can't imagine many companies wanting to take someone pregant on - it wouldn't do much for my maternity leave pay either.

Last July I was actively seeking a new job and after failing at the last hurdle on one job decided that I couldn't put family on hold for any longer - plan had been to put TTC on hold for a year while I got established in a new company - not to be.

Could I ask if anyone else gets odd twinges and the odd very mild cramp?

I didn't have this with my first DS and am wondering if this is normal....

We still have a few days left at the end of Nov to fill so am sure will have some more new mums 2 be on here soon.

Stinkybear - we do have CMWs its just that they are based at the surgery and don't come to your home. I have a few friends in London who have the MW come to them for every appointment and when they go into labour to confirm whether they should go into hospital - but we have to go to hpsital to be checked here.

Dungungirl - you will soon see that everyday one or other of us has 'unexplained' cramps or twinges which send up into a total tiz! Totally normal - I had proper period pains with my first and with this one.

ok - now, here's a question..... maybe contrary to some other - these early stages have made me well hmmm up for it!

With the last 2 I didn't avoid any nooky in early stages as didn't see a reason why to - am a little more conscious this time have had recent mc. Things I read just say 'pehpahs avoid it but is ok' so no real answer.

Has anyone asked this Q to their MW or know the answer?

Guess if I had a MW coming here for every appointment I'd have to try to be tidy, so maybe I should be grateful I'm going to the hospital! Be nice to see the same mw more than once though -- don't think I've ever had that.

Dungungirl: I've had lots of twinges and so have other ladies on the thread -- I think it's ligaments stretching? And it does feel different in second pregnancies. I'm sure by the time I've typed this everyone else will have said the same!

No nooky for 8 months? And she ain't gonna feel like it for a while after that! Why did your friend have to do that, Roca? I've no idea if it's inadvisable -- never crossed my mind!

Roca, as far as I know there is no reason to avoid it in early pregnancy, the baby is tucked in snug and safe. But knowing that I didn't want any before the scan last time, hormones? Didn't feel at all pregnant so was very paranoid that it wouldn't be real and wasn't taking any chances of it being taken away from me.
But I think 8 months is over doing it a bit!

oh believe you me, she's not abstaining coz she thinks it will harm the baby - she's just doesn't fancy it! Getting pg was a one hit wonder she said (guess it wasn't hapnin much before then either!)

Well, not sure if going to the GP was worth it. He agreed to the early scan but said that he would write to them, they would send me an appt. Is it just me, or does that sound time consuming?? I doubt I will get in before my usual 12 week scan.

Pregnancy care is definitely lacking in UK. I bought myself 1st rate care last time. My first labour was 2 1/2 hrs long, I got to hospital with 20 mins to spare! When I was pregnant with no 2, I panicked that he would come in 45 minutes and would be born outside King's Cross on way to hospital. So I found a private midwife who could get to me in 12 minutes and had a home birth - it was fab. Now Government wants to make insurance compulsory for private midwives even though no insurance is available effectively finishing private midwives off. So much for choice. Did NHS/University College hospital London for all my other pregnancy stuff - so hit and miss especially if you have a need to telephone them. Got my miscarriage last year covered by medical insurance and went to the Portland - they were superb. I called them at 5.30am on a Saturday morning. Top consultant called me back in 10 minutes and said come in now. Whole thing was sorted that day, NHS wanted to prolong my agony for 4 more days. Stinks that if you can pay/have insurance or live in area with amazing NHS service you get the type of care that everyone deserves.

Having said that I went to see Dr on Tuesday to say am pregnant. On Wednesday someone from hospital called me back with scan date and midwife appointment - very efficient. So unlike dealings with them before. I live in hope that if I arrive on time I may be seen somewhere close to my appointment time rather than the average of 75 minutes after my appointment time. Have updated my scan date on list.

Roca, I was told at the hospital to avoid sex. He said that they do recommend it in early pregnancy, ie to abstain.
But I have read lots of others saying it makes no difference. Afraid that doesn't help !!

Confession time ladies = I do not have sex whilst pregnant!!! Not because I or DH don't want to (and believe you me I have VERY erotic dreams whilst pregnant involving Robbie Williams)but when PG with DS1 and doing the "deed" early on, he said to me "it's like knocking on the baby's door".......What a passion killer eh...now we both think about that and erm....abstain!

actually by admitting that I realise I may now have put some of you ladies of having "romantic interludes" with the DH/DP. Sorry if I have....
