Evening all just checking up on you all, very sore today even driving tonight was painful as my right foot was flexed. Still coming up on the half way point now.

Am booking our scan for 22 weeks so another 2 weeks or so, can't wait.

Paula - sorry about your bug, hope it passes soon.

Mummywannabee - painful hips could be a sign your ligaments are loosening up I'm afraid. Mine will get better around the same time I deliver the placenta.

Minkus - great news about your scan, come on spill what do you think you saw? I want to ask the sonographer to let us have a guess this time.

pigleychez · 18/02/2008 21:41

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is well/feeling better.

Well bubba has been wriggling and kicking me constantly since about 4pm now, Concerned this baby is going to have far too much energy!

my scan is at 22 weeks and on the 7th March. Seems ages away and cant wait!
Dont want to find out the sex but not sure id be strong enough to say no if they asked!

Have this week off as im using up holiday before maternity leave in May.
Been out shopping today with a friend and her little boy. Bought loads baby clothes- my friends fault for egging me on!

Also plan to meet up with old work colleagues and their little ones (6mths and 1yr) on Friday so a real socialising week.

JODIEhavingababy · 18/02/2008 21:47

Evening all,

PYBF - Sorry to hear about bug, they're not nice atthe best of times

Mummywannabe - Hip pain is awful isn't it! I don't know when to draw the line on it being one of those things that come with te whole pregnancy package, or whether to start taking it more seriously. (although if I do go to the doc's I know he'll just put it down to pregnancy, so am going to reflexologist next month)

I just came on tonight for some tea and sympathy, my nipples REALLY HURT! They have gone so big and my poor (.)(.) are so hard and sore. Just the thought of BF at the moment is bringing tears to my eyes, I wanted to try again this time (wasn't very succesful with DS) but I'm now not so sure!

Sorry for rant, I know you can't do anything about it, but just wanted to let off some steam

Minkus · 19/02/2008 08:50

Morning everyone, hope you all had a good nights sleep.

My hips hurt too Mummywannabe- I find that sleeping with a pillow between my knees really helps, it's sooo comfy that I think I might continue after bubba arrives and sitting up straight on the sofa rather than lolling about makes things easier too. But it's realy uncomfortable isn't it? Hope something works for you.

Good luck with your scan today NikNak x

I feel for you PYBF with house renovations, especially as we had our whole top floor layout rejiggled when pg with ds and the smell of the sawdust/chipboard made me sooooo sick. Can't bear it to this day. Hope it's not too much of an upheaval and they finish soon! And to bug- ill children and pregnant mums are so not a good mix.

Awww poor you Jodie with your nips- strap them down with a mammouth bra and keep dh away from the poor buggers at all costs

Cass66 which cake did you cook in the end? Mouth was watering at your post!

DH and I talked about the scan last night, he thought he saw boy bits and I thought I saw girl bits! So we're no closer to knowing what we've got, which is how we wanted it anyway I cant believe how much its made me bond with this baby, think maybe that I've been focusing on how ill the hyperemesis has made me, not the reason I was being sick i.e. the little person in my tum! Have been so much more aware of its movements too so my subconscious is obviously homed in on it now.

Another (final!) thought- once we've all reached 20 weeks it's a countdown to d-day! Only 19 weeks and 6 days to go here

Minkus · 19/02/2008 08:50

BLimey can't I go on- sorry x

MrsHOP · 19/02/2008 10:25

Hi all, good luck NikNak today...

I can't wait for scan - I want to find out so badly what it is!! I like to think I could wait, but knowing that there is the option of finding out is too much for me!

I have been sleeping with a pillow between knees - agree it is so comfy, it also is one of the only things that helps me to sleep on my left...

xx

NikNakF · 19/02/2008 11:19

Hi guys...

Haven't caught up with anything yet but we're expecting a very healthy, lovely BOY!

x

JODIEhavingababy · 19/02/2008 11:36

Congrats NikNakF! So everything is well! Thats brill news. I bet you can't stop looking at the photo can you???? Little Boys are ace! (I bet little girls are too, but I wouldn't know!!!)

Now it's all blue, blue, blue!

pigleychez · 19/02/2008 11:38

Oh NikNaf- Thats fab!

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 12:08

NikNak - great news congrats on your boy, I could not not find out the tempatation is just far too much. I think we have more boys than girls so far must do a count.

Minkus - don't worry about rabbiting away I do it all the time. I know what you mean I love the 20 week scan it's as if some of the worry goes and you can start to look forward to meeting the baby.

DD1 has been "picking" babies out the Next catalogue all girl ones of course her justification is we have 3 cats 2 boys and a girl and Daddy is a boy so we have enough boys. Either there will be a giant told you so coming or she is going to be very disappointed.

OP posts:
isaidno · 19/02/2008 12:39

niknak - a boy! Blue for you then!

Just got back from the midwife and all is fine. Heartbeat was 148 which is pretty fast I think. Sweetkitty did you say over 135 was a girl? My blood pressure, which is always low was 90 / 50. I think mw was surprised I wasn't fainting and dizzy. I feel fine!

I am def on a countdown now - only 19 weeks and 2 days to go!

pigleychez · 19/02/2008 13:10

I have a question for you experienced mummys

How much did your first weigh?
Ive been buying some baby clothes but mostly 0-1 mnths and 0-3mths.
Ive looked at the newborn/first size clothes but really unsure as to what sizes im going to need- Obvious first timer alert!
Some of them look Tiny and some look huge?

Any advice? and how many sleep suit,bodysuits/vests would i need etc?

Sorry if this sounds a silly question.

JODIEhavingababy · 19/02/2008 13:32

Pigley - I bought 6 Sleepsuits (longsleeved) and 6 Short sleeved sleepsuits, in white. 0-3 months (but I suppose this depends on how hot our summer is going to be, I had a Sept baby last time)

I then bought some little cotton hats (which DS kept ripping off) and 3-4 pairs of scratch mittens (again he kept ripping them off)

I also bought a small sleeping bag and a couple of pram blankets.

I didn't really buy alot of clothes, and I'm glad I didn't as I got bought TONS of stuff when he was born. I also didn't find out the sex, and didn't want alot of whites/yellows/beiges, so I had fun shopping for boys stuff after the birth. It also gave me an excuse to get out of the house as it's a daunting task!

DS weighed 7llbs 4ozs born, he didn't fit most 'newborn' things, and when he did they didn't last long.

JODIEhavingababy · 19/02/2008 13:34

Actually, I've just recalled something I forgot. In my hospital bag I had packed 3 sleep suits, and the first one we put on him was really big, and it was a 0-3, so we had to find some new born ones. So maybe buying a packet of newborn sleepsuits wouldn't be a bad idea (note to self)

Also I find Next clothes come up really big, as do Geaorge at Asda. Mothercare are OK....

JODIEhavingababy · 19/02/2008 13:35

Sorry to go on, but I'm glad you've asked this as I'm really going to have to jog my memory, I thought I was pretty much sorted!

shortshafe · 19/02/2008 13:36

Hi all, not been on all weekend so glad everyone seems to be ok.

PYBF - pants news about the bug - everything seems to sweep through our house no matter what precautions we take - I felt awful last year when dd had a horrid d&v bug at 7 weeks old! We did loads of renovation last time I was pg too - my family still take the piss out of my 'extreme nesting'!

Jodie - I've had the sore nips thing too - only lasted a weekish this time, must have been a (.)(.) growth spurt!

pigleychez - my dd was 9lb so nothing newborn size fit her! She came home from hospital in a 0-3 month outfit. Its traditional for first time mums to buy and be given FAR too many clothes so just enjoy it! I think we only needed 7 vests, 7 sleepsuits, couple of little hats, about it really. (those sleepsuits with arms that fold over at the end are great - dd wouldn't keep scratch mitts on and really made a mess of her face)

It's just dawned on me my dd was an October baby so I have no idea what summer babies wear! Help?

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 13:50

isaidno - good news about the beartbeat, yes apparently >135 is a girl below is a boy although my MW says on any given day any given baby gave give a different heartbeat IYSWIM, if they are sleeping it can be different to awake.

pigley - I actually was dreaming about sleepsuits last night. I agree buy everything it's your first enjoy! DD1 was a little 6lbs 3ozs so newborn (up to 11 lbs) swamped her, I actually went out and bought some little baby clothes up to 7 1/2lbs from Adams as newborn looked so big on her. DD2 was 9lbs 3ozs so was straight into 0-3 months. My advice is get a mixture don't wash and detag them all either you don't know what size the baby will be so cover all options. I'm going for about 6 sleepsuits, 6 vests and a few little summer rompers to start with unless it's a girl then it will have a full wardrobe anyway.

OP posts:
isaidno · 19/02/2008 14:26

My Ds1 was a July baby and it was so hot he only wore a vest for about 3 weeks!

He was nearly 7 lb and DS2 nearly 8 lb. They both fitted newborn for about 3 weeks. You will get bought tons of stuff as presents so be wary of buying too much yourself. (Also the sales will be on when our little ones are born so you can get a few bargains if you need anything!)

I would say 6 sleepsuits, and 6 vests are an ample start. Maybe 1 little coming home outfit as well...I'm having a home birth, so won't need that!

hats / scratch mitts - make sure they are cheap! I never used mine.

lottiejenkins · 19/02/2008 14:31

When my ds (now 11) was born in July 96 he was tiny 5lb 10oz (going down to 5lb 2) We only had one thing small enough for him to wear, it had to be washed and worn every day, im sure the neighbours thought we were poor but for the first couple of weeks till we go into routine to go out he wore his tiny spotted rompersuit!!!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 14:35

hello girls - i am mumsnetting too much atm!
sitting up in bed (dressed i hasten to add!) having just made dh drive me 16 miles round rip for a vege deluxe meal- Mcdonalds .even he was horrified when i suggested it. having felt vile all morning i feel fab but tired now!

niknak many congratulations on your loving little boy! did you think he was a boy or no inkling?

pigley - my firstborn was 7lbs 10 and subsequents all around 8lbs 8oz .My advice is - depends on height of youand dp - we are both tall but thin and have big babies...
i only buy one or two newborn things as literally within a week they outgrow what looked HUGE at birth.

re weight gain - i am whopping it on have put on 3 lbs in as many days and 3 lbs the whole rest of the pregnancy

better go- dc5 tore some designers guild wallpaper off a wall when i was not looking the other day!

Poledra · 19/02/2008 14:38

DD1 was 8lb 4oz, so went straight into 0-3. Both my LOs lived in sleepsuits and bodysuits for at least the first 2 months. I'd agree you need about 6 of each, but you'll probably end up with quite a bit more which is very useful when you can't be arsed washing. I think I had 2 nice outfits for mine at that age for when we took them out to show them off. Oh, and I also had a load of little hand-knitted cardis, courtesy of my mum, MIL and aunt, which were invaluable at the time but my dds were both winter babies.
Whatever you do, make sure you have some muslin squares, as they are the saving grace for your clothes, if not for the baby's.

pigleychez · 19/02/2008 14:46

Thanks for the advice girls, being my first i have no idea!
Think ill get a selection of different sizes just in case.

re the weight gain... at my booking appointment the midwife weighed me at 10stone exactly.
Bump is a fair size now and ive been eating tons! so been putting off going on the scales for ages. I finally did the other day (19 weeks) and it said 10st 3 llbs???
I thought it would be much more than that? Should it be?

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 14:49

I agree with July babies living in vests for weeks DD1 certainly did especially for you lot down South, it was so hot when DD1 was born. Now we are up in Scotland I think we might need some cardis for night time. I am thinking of hours spent in the Summer baby sleeping content in pram and DDs playing in the garden.

DDs out in the garden lovely and sunny if a bit cold. I have admitted defeat today and am wearing a DD2 pregnancy jumper (size 12-14 but lovely and warm and maternity jeans) had on my normal size 8's yesterday and they are too tight now.

Oh am buying some wool and needles this week and am going to attempt to knit a cardigan for this one, need to buy a book as well come to think of it. I love hand knitted cardi's and the other two didn't have any

OP posts:
pigleychez · 19/02/2008 14:56

Sweetkitty- I agree about the lovely knitted cardi's.
MIL's friend knitted us on for a xmas prezzie. My Aunty is knitting us a lovely shawl and my mum is knitting some bits as well.

Shes very busy knitting as my sister is due in May so bless her is having to do double!

Mum bought me a knitting book, set of needles and ball of wool as a xmas present.. Id started to knit years ago when i was first taught (remember group knitting with my mum and nan!) but cant see me doing it now.
I might have a go when i go on maternity leave if im feeling brave!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 14:57

swetkitty - i have put a pg top on today as well ! Still in normal jeans though and by some miracle these are a size 10!

pigley please tell me you are tiny as i am pleased with 10 stone 8!
