in height pigley i mean!

pigleychez · 19/02/2008 15:02

not sure if im the right height for my weight or whatever it is but im 5.3

Tend not to pay much attention to pre pregnancy "ideal weights"- As long as im happy with how I look then its fine.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 15:06

yes i am relaxed in theory..!

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 15:09

I think I am getting to the stage when all I want to be is comfy, this SPD is starting to drive me mad as well

OP posts:
PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 15:40

sweetkitty

i had spd with my last 5th pregnancy. it was so depressing and debilitating
i do hope you are tryingnot to lift the dds as that is what made mine so bad last time. no heels - no running up stairs 2x2,allegedly no vacuuming but i still am....errr

those belts - do you have one?

i really sympathise i had not really heard of it till i had it and ouch!

isaidno · 19/02/2008 15:42

pigley - you may have gained more than 3 lb because you have weighed on 2 different scales. It's best not to really worry about it, but in general if you are of normal weight to start you should put on 2 stone. about half of that goes on in the 3rd trimester.

I'm 8 st 10lb now, so I've put on 9 lb (21 weeks on Thursday). I'm only 5 ft 1 so that's why my bump looks big on my body!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 15:43

isaidno we need an update picture!!!

i am 5 foot 8 you all make me sound a giant!

pigleychez · 19/02/2008 15:47

Anyone elses bump rock hard?

Bump has always been reasonably solid but now the actual uterus (ie under belly button) is like rock!
Can make it uncomfortable with clothes digging in, getting up off the sofa, turning over in bed.
Shocked the hell out of DH when he felt it the other day!

TJuice · 19/02/2008 15:56

lalala (fingers in ear) not listening to weight discussion.
i have put on loads! like 12lbs or something. i am almost 5ft 9 and a half so its kind of spread out but my face is softening up a bit so its time to cut back on the english sweets, i think . . .

and do some exercise.

anyway, i have more questions as naive first-timer

sleep suits - long arms, long legs right?
short arm, no legs ones - body suits right?

so either the baby can just chill in one of those long-arm, long-leg ones (its acceptable to have your baby chilling in that all-day isn't it?), or you have to pull leggings/trousers and a cardi/jumper over the no-leg ones right?

so if its warm - they can just wear the short body suit right?
when should you put proper little outfits on them?

i have quite a collection of cute but probably pointless clothes for my little Miss Thing . . .half from my mum and half from me. all of it is really colourful too.

its going to be so obvious that i am a first-timer - i bet my kid is soooo inappropriately dressed at all times.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 16:00

i always think neonates look a bit blotchy -of-the-limb when not covered up BUT depending on the weather it should be warm so i imagine they will need very little in the day - sleepsuits for night...

oooohhhhhhhh exiting

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 16:01

then again i am thinking of my pasty white babies - a mixed race bab may look more appealing!

Min912 · 19/02/2008 16:34

Ds was 9lb 1 when born, 0-0 size stuff fitted for about a week. Tesco/Sainsburys are good for 100% cotton cheap vests/ bodysuits/ whatever! We kept him in just those (he was November baby) for at least a couple of months and then a friend came over with her baby the same age (her second though) and she'd put him in clothes, to which I was all 'you can do that??' Not sure what I was thinking... but really, keep things as simple as poss to begin with. Muslins are a godsend. Plus get LOADS of maternity pads (sorry, but true). And don't bother with disposable knickers as they are HORRIBLE, just get some big cotton ones and throw away afterwards.

I've just been sorting DS's old clothes into piles actually and he got given stuff for 3-6mths the most from friends and family. 6-9mth pile also huge, think that was my mum getting carried away...

Just noticed today stretch marks on my actual tum which is a bit of a surprise as last time only got them on hips and thighs. And I'm not that big yet (I don't think). So IF we decide to go for three, does that mean next time I'll get them on my arse??!

beepbeep · 19/02/2008 16:48

I got them on my bum first time round Min912!! (but nowhere else luckily!)

Re the clothing thing, DD was 8.1 but was quite a short but tubby baby, i found a lot of the 0-3 stuff too big and ended up buying a little bit more newborn, but definately depends on where you buy it, Next stuff is huge whereas Gap I find is on the smaller size. At the moment she is 15months, in some 18m-2yr Gap stuff and still wearing some 6-9m Next - how can that be right??!!

Had a quick look at some really cool, bright baby stuff yesterday but all very boyish / very girlish and seeing as we don't know i had to abstain. however found it quite shocking to remember how small new babies are, i think it'll be a fright when i first see this one with DD who i still think as as my little baby!

SPD is killing me, trying not to lift, but how do you do that with a 15m old who refuses to walk?! Just coping with some warm baths, hot water bottles and paracetamol.

Got m/w appt next week, quite looking forward to it, then it'll only be another couple of weeks until 24wk scan which i am dreading and still hoping that everything will have resolved itself. Almost too scared to even think of buying anything, will just be glad when this pregnancy is over, or at least if we get told all is well at the next scan so can try and get on with the rest of it without all the worry.

Take care all x

beepbeep · 19/02/2008 16:48

Apologies for the long one!

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 16:49

pigley - bumps tend to go rock hard well mine do anyway it's completely different to normal flab

min - completely agree about the loads of sanitary towels and not the maternity ones, things like Always nighttime are a lot comfier, loads of cheap cotton pants from the basics range from Asda or Tesco

Tjuice - body suits are the vests with t-shirt arms and popper underneath you are right short legs, sleep suits are the ones with feet in them and long arms. Proper little outfits are a matter of choice really, some people have them in them from birth others don't bother. I like the short legs/short arms all in ones called rompers for summer babies, I must admit I had some cute dresses for DD1 too nice for days out.

Paula - unfortunately I am doing everything you mention not to do cannot not lift DD2, DD1 can get in and out her car seat herself now but DD2 is at the stage where she climbs up on things but cannot get down, am definitely limiting it though. I'm up and down the stairs all day now after the DDs trying to go slow though. DP does most things when here but he's not here 12 hours a day during the week.

Just bit the head off the window cleaner this afternoon, he was talking about how DD2 was getting big now blah blah blah and I said "she's going to be a big sister now too" and he said "well you will be certainly wanting a boy this time" I said well actually no you get what you are given and I would never be disappointed with another girl. He said "well we were lucky we got one of each" really annoys me all these "wanting a boy" comments keep thinking of witty replies, maybe I will say "yes we will be so disappointed with a girl as we tried all these weird sexual positions to get a boy" Oh and then my Mum phoned to annoy me further.

Oh well nearly dinner time what's everyone having??? I don't know yet I have been secretly munching a chocolate Orange easter egg today

sweetkitty

i have the opposite but very similar experinece

on sunday at a childrens party - afriend put his hand on my tummy and sadi 'not going to find out at scan - dont worry i can tell you now- a boy' another mother of twin dds told me how she gasped in relief when she fond out they were both girls - when she heard on the grapevine i was pg she texted' hope you get your girl' rather than angry it upsets me!

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 17:30

I know Paula you feel like whatever you cannot win, I'm sure Mums of boys feel the exact same. I actually think I'm going to say "oh I so hope it's not a boy we REALLY don't want a boy, they're horrible" see what they say to that!

(PS don't really think boys are horrible well DD1 does)

OP posts:
PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 19/02/2008 17:39

sweetkitty dp does say this

he s\ays he gets sooo much of the 'ooh you will be wanting a girl bit that he has started to moan on about our dd saying what hard work she is and how he is hoping for a boy.

OK so i would like a DD but it is actually thoughtless and hurtful of folk to rub salt in

Anyway we both know how lovely all children can be when brought up well by loving caring parents in a stimulating and enriching environment.

The fact that you and I Kitty happen to be lucky enough to give birth to natrural beauties also helps

what gender they are will be irrelevent to the highly probable future they will attain in high level academia/ top level finance or world class modelling .

so endeth this lecture and

NikNakF · 19/02/2008 18:36

Hi guys, trying to catch up. Hope you are feeling better sweetkitty.

Just on the gender debate - just found out it's a boy and happy that it's healthy but really don't care what it is but MIL was 'so relieved'... Frustrating, as what if it had been a girl? Would people have been unhappy? Madness...

Oh I can buy some stuff now for him, that's the real bonus - had avoided everything to be on the safe side, here comes the mad shopping spree ;)

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 19:11

Paula - well put, I feel like saying "well I'm not so shallow as to base my opinion of a child on what it has between it's legs" as you say it's already a blessing to have these beautiful and intelligent children. I thought at one point I had lost this LO so for it to still be here is a blessing regardless of what gender it is. A boy would be nice but I think it would terrify me I know girls, a girl would be easier for sure. (At least DD1 would be happy)

Niknak - go spend, spend, spend for your little boy do you have a boys name already? I always had a boys and a girls name, DD1 got the girls name I had, now I'm not so sure for a boys name and as for anotehr girls really don't have a clue.

OP posts:
JODIEhavingababy · 19/02/2008 19:52

Evening,

All this gender talk, I agree it really gets my goat and I've only got 1 boy! I think pretty much everyone has made comments like, so you'll be hoping for a girl then etc.... I would love a girl, one of each would be lovely, but I will love a boy equally as I would a girl, I REALLY DON"T CARE! Infact another boy might be easier to deal with, and alot cheaper, as I already have all the clothes!

I'm have a homemade Lasagne, with not so homemade garlic bread, with a lovely freshly baked (not by me!) Jam Donut for afters!!!! I can't wait. I'm staving. I think it's only got 10 mins left in oven!

I'm 5'3 and am now 11.5 have put on 1 stone already and I'm only 19 weeks.... But I really don't care! It's not gone anywhere other than my bump, which is huge (and hard) and my poor old boobies (see yesterdays post!)

Sorry for long one, but you guys have been chatting mad this afternoon!

sweetkitty · 19/02/2008 20:33

Jodie - probably me just having my usual moan having a bit of the wobbles today. Window cleaner really p*** me off today saying "we were very lucky we got one of each!" as if I am not lucky having a second DD, I feel very lucky she's a complete star and probably more boyish than most boys I know anyway bless her.

I'm having a few thoughts about nursery for DD2 I will go post on a separate thread.

Re:weight gain, i've put on about 12lbs (20 weeks) now 9st 2lb, bump is HUGE!
