RUMPEL · 17/03/2008 18:24

Hi All,

I should gain 1st10lbs according to that thing. think the chocolate cravoings and cake munching (which have come back) might alter that

Last time I bought M&S and Mothercare maternity bras but honestly those Hotmilk ones are mega comfy and supportive so really worth the extra cost as I just keep washing and wearing and they keep there shape and support. They are nursing ones too so will do the other end. I'd realy recommend them rather than buying a whole load of crap ones!
SWEETKITTY - why don't you just cut the bottoms off of your jeans? I buy 36" leg ones and chop a bit off the bottom (need about a 34"). Save yu money and I like em frayed

MUMMYWANNABE - what you studying? I am finding it really hard going. I have been doing this since 2005 (should only take 1.5 years) but 'cos I've been pg etc still there. This si the hardest it has been for me though as I can't find any motivation, I cannot access an intelligent brain, my toddly is teething and I generally feel pretty awful when pg! Moan - still should be finished by June - hurrah! And the student discoutns are good

BEEP BEEP - good to hear your news.

MINIPINK - yay! Bet you are excited.

I haven't bought anything this time apart from those bras. I just buy bigger knicks but like them below bump. Last time my feet went up a size and were huge and swollen - not happened so far yet but maybe in the hot summer weather.

Have you seen the new P&T due out in April - vibe it's called I think? Looks quite smart for a doubler.

EEC · 17/03/2008 18:44

Brilliant news beepbeep.

cass66 · 17/03/2008 19:06

fab scan news.

bought some fab lounging trousers from mamas and papas. black light weight jersey with lovely soft stretch panel. everything feels too tight come this time of night, so they are fab. could just about get away with them outside the house too!!!

put my name down for preg yoga, bit of a waiting list, need to wait for someone to pop! it might be a bit new age for me, but it's an evening out of the house.

got the DVD of my daughters 5 min ballet debut. cried again. bloody hormones.

must go and listen to the archers. girls calling each other names in the bath - poo head is the worse word ever!! XX

MinniethePink · 17/03/2008 19:07

Greetings from the House of Vom - DS came down with viral sickness/poo bug saturday morning, DH got it yesterday afternoon. I lost the will to sympathise somewhere around the third time that DH neglected to shut the bathroom door while throwing up, and I've lost count of the number of times I've had to change DS's bedding as he's thrown up in his cot. Had to scrape vom out of his eyes yesterday where he'd rolled in it, euwwww....

Went to the supermarket today and bought: rubber gloves, air freshener, toilet roll, kitchen roll, electrolyte powders and carpet cleaner. Oh, and as a 'treat' for myself, 100x breast pads and 48x maternity pads. Yey!

And now I feel like I'm actually coming down with a cold - bunged up even more than usual plus scratchy back of throat thing. Boooo...

Winge over! That lingerie looks great, I am very tempted by the pjs - had a look in mothercare today and I just don't understand why maternity underwear usually doesn't have that built-in support section in the tops. I mean, who wants to wear a bra in bed yet you need a bit of support, right??

Am very excited though as I googled 'underwired nursing bras' and there are more out there than I thought! Can't bear the idea of 6-10months of saggy 'soft-cup' bras.

I've been having Braxton Hicks as well - I'm sure I didn't get them this early last time around, so it seems quite odd. Plus yesterday was the first time that I felt the baby move from outside, so that was quite nice!

Oh - also (apologies for long post) I've contacted a doula and she seems soooo nice so we're going to meet up and hopefully book her. She was just so positive and excited for us and was really enthusiastic about having a home birth, which I'd sort of written off, but now feel quite keen on. Anyone else considering home?

disneystar · 17/03/2008 19:57

cass66 i had to laugh at the word poo-head my 2 boys 7 and 6 call it each other the word poo seems to be a hilarious word to them has them in fits of giggles, toilet humour is so funny to them im so glad mine are not alone

sweetkitty · 17/03/2008 20:32

Paula - according to the weight gain thingie I should put on 2 stone 2lbs, I put on 3 last time but was in my size 10 jeans the day after she was born and she was 9lbs 3ozs so I'm not that bothered.

beepbeep - great news about the scan and well done ordering your P&T I haven't got around to it yet, on kiddicare they said it was 2 day delivery, DD1's pram arrived about 3 days before she did and the double I had last time about 2 weeks before DD2 did but that's because she was late. I'm not too fussed about it, DD3 will probably be in a sling for first few weeks anyway.

Rumpel - never thought about doing that to the jeans had a look at the P&T vibe but it's over £500 no way DP will release the funds for it. I'm on pram no 4 as it is.

minniethepink - I'm with you on the saggy bra front. Theres nothing worse than having leaking, huge boobs, stuffed with breast pads into a saggy white bra that is so unattractive.

I too am of erm relations, does anyone else feel super sensitive downstairs? it feels sometimes like my undercarriage is dropping down, now I know I had this with DD2 but that was towards the end but this is much earlier. Coupled with the pelvic stuff I am feeling about as sexy as a cabbage right now.

OP posts:
libralady · 17/03/2008 20:44

Well according to the chart I should put on about 1st 6lb, and so far have managed only 3lbs. (25 weeks tomorrow) Not too worried as I want to lose weight anyway, although not actively trying whilst pregnant. When pregnant last time ended up losing weight and only put 3lb on during the entire pregnancy and was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans the day after he was born. By the time I had got rid of the baby bulge, I'd gone down 2 dress sizes. Am now a size 14, who knows, if I have a couple more DCs I may get down to a size 8!

MinniethePink · 17/03/2008 21:02

Gaaaah, according to that weight gain thing I should only gain 1st 6, have already put on 2stone.... however it also says 0.6lb is extra breast tissue - for both of them - and come on!!!! Must be at least a couple of extra pounds there! Plus it estimates 7.5lb for baby, DS was 9lb 1. All adds up.
Seriously though, at NCT classes last time the teacher said not to worry about those weight charts and that they are a very 60s male-orientated idea, you put on what you need to, which is also why maternity clothes in your size don't always fit as you progress as you put on extra around butt and thighs - kind of ballast so you're not as top heavy and are a bit more stable. And if you breast-feed then you'll lose it.
Runs back to kitchen for another caramel millionaire slice thingy... yum...

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/03/2008 21:02

grrr sweets how do you manage it?

i was reading my old mumsnet threads from last time..i went from 9 stone 8 to 12 stone five and after the delivery was still 11 stone 9

i think the week after it kind of drops off again but i NO WAY back in size 10 jeans for a few months at least

pigleychez · 17/03/2008 21:23

Weight chart says my gain will be about 1 stone 6lbs which doesnt sound too bad.
Think ive gained about 7 lbs at the mo.

Great news about the scan Beepbeep

beepbeep · 17/03/2008 21:34

Thanks all, so relieved by scan. Just come back from yoga and feel like i'm walking on air!

Paula - reckon shops should still have the sand one in if they hold stock, but apparently they're not making any more. I like the charcoal - oh well.

purplejennyrose · 17/03/2008 21:41

Hi all - can't keep up!
Feeling ginormous here too - have grown out of mat clothes from last time and had to buy new ones, am waddling and still eating everything in sight!
Minipink - yay to maternity leave! I am going as early as poss - end April - so for me, 3 more weeks of 3 days, then 2 weeks hols then 2 weeks and I'm done! But, need to get the message through to my headteacher - he keeps telling people that I'll be going at the end of the summer term !! Er, I don't think so!! My colleague who I work alongside is just pregnant, due about Nov, and he said to her 'oh you won't go off / will wait until PJR is back'...whaaat??
Positive vibes to all!!

purplejennyrose · 17/03/2008 21:43

Oh and I'm another one who should be studying - have work to do for my play therapy course that I need to get done before baby!! Am motivated, but with job and toddler it seems to be impossible - I s'pose I could be doing it now instead of MN! - but that would require lots of effort and I'm tired...

mummypig · 17/03/2008 22:32

hi all
not managing to keep up with all these messages, also the whole household had a virus last week, even dp was off work for 3 days, which is virtually unheard of for him. I still have a cough and have been wetting myself loads which is horrible. I even started wearing some of my maternity pads (cos I didn't have any panty liners in the house).

I feel envious of you who are studying. I think I need something extra to do with my time at the moment, although I'm sure if I were studying I would just feel too tired to do anything! I was planning to start a science club in our local school this term but have been spending too much time with hospital appts for ds2 so have handed the science club stuff over to someone else. Hopefully if the new baby is amenable I'll be able to pick it up next year instead.

I would love to go to antenatal yoga this time round. I went last time and according to my mum was very fit that time round! But ds1 was in a day nursery then, so although i was working part-time, I had far more time to myself. Ds2 is only in afternoon nursery at the moment (local authority) and I'm hoping to get a childminder for him but my hunt has stalled for now. A lovely woman near us would have looked after him for me, but wasn't registered and I didn't feel happy about leaving him with her, just in case anything happened.

I am also feeling terribly unsexy and maternity clothing really doesn't help - those hotmilk bras look great though, I may have to get myself one.

Best wishes to everyone

isaidno · 17/03/2008 22:37

Minniethe pink - I'm having a home birth because I had one with DS2 and it was fab. I just need my placenta praevia to move - next scan 34 weeks. I'm hoping it has started to move becasue I am feeling more kicks at the bottom of my womb this week (fingers crossed.)

Relations - DH and I did some sexual stuff on Saturday, which is pretty unusual when pg. I do find I am over sensitive in the nether regions, and my tits are a no touch area!

mummypig · 17/03/2008 23:11

ooh forgot to say I am having home birth too, with indep midwife, same one as delivered ds2. I also met a doula recently - for post-natal help rather than during the birth. She seemed very pleasant and appeared to be very flexible in what she was prepared to do, but I didn't really click with her, so I might call a few others and see how I feel about them.

disneystar · 18/03/2008 07:33

mummypig i met my doula last week but to be honest we or rather i didnt click with her she was all for the oh so natural method quiet place candles that sort of thing she had very strong views on birthing to says i should be in my primitive zone i guess i didnt really trust here i only have a choice of 3 where i live so its a problem in a way.

Mummywannabe · 18/03/2008 08:24

Rumple - doing a BA in early years - to be honest if i hadn't started it before i was pregnant might give up! plus we get £2000 from council to spend on nursery if i do it and then go on to work towards Early Years Professional status and therefore i want the money to improve the nursery! No pressure then!

BeepBeep - great about scan

Home birth - thought about it but as its my first have no way of knowing how my body will react so not sure, plus our house is tiny. Idea appeals to me though.

tafftaff · 18/03/2008 08:34

Morning all,
What's a doula?

isaidno · 18/03/2008 09:13

morning - a doula is someone trained to support the mother during labour, and also before / after the birth. A bit like a professional birth partner. I have to make do with my DH!
more info here

mummypig · 18/03/2008 09:47

hi disneystar well in a way I am relieved it's not just me who didn't hit it off with the doula, but it is a shame for you if you don't have much choice in your area. I have to say although I am def having a homebirth I steered away from the people who appeared to focus on that, or on supporting the breastfeeding afterwards. My midwife is great so I will already have that support. Plus since this is my third, I don't really want anyone telling me what to do or not to do. What I really need is someone who will help me with the house and the kids over the summer holiday so I don't feel knackered all the time. The doula I met seemed happy to fit in in this kind of way, but I just wonder if there's another one out there somewhere with whom I will feel more of a connection.

I have been looking at some of the underwired nursing bras on another thread today and they look lovely, so I might try to stretch my finances to include a couple this month or next. I just have to pay for our holiday and the water bill first. It's good to know there are some better bras out there. I might let my sister know too, as she's bf at the moment and does like pretty bras.

twinkle1 · 18/03/2008 10:03

Beepbeep great news about the scan
That weight thing says i should put on around 3st 3lbs with twins!!!!!! I have managed about 6lbs so far.
Im feeling really emotional at the min, spent all morning crying over various things,i guess im just fed up.
Twinkle

sweetkitty · 18/03/2008 13:09

Paula - I really don't know how I managed it, with DD1 I put weight on all over and was certainly nowhere near normal clothes after she was born. DD2 I was just a walking bump, once the baby was out I think all the weight went with her, we joke she ate me from the outside in. She was also great at BFing from the outset unlike DD1 who I had problems feeding as she had jaundice and wouldn't latch. Also I was a bit more in the know and knew the best thing to start BFing is stay in bed and feed the baby lots. DD2 certainly didn't complain she was born 9lbs 3ozs and was 10lbs a week later never lost an oz bless her.

beepbeep - I want the black P&T so guess thats OK, saw a P&T today when I was out and it had a baby in a car seat in the front and a toddler in the back seat, didn't know you could do that? Couldn't really look for long or I would have held up traffic behind me

mummypig - sorry to hear you have all had a lurgy, I go to the toilet loads now so I don't have a full bladder and also do pelvic floor exercises when I remember. Still hit and miss if I have a coughing fit though.

Hopefully homebirth here as well had a great experience with DD2 especially afterwards, nothing like getting back into your own bed and using your own shower plus having DP making me decent food. Wouldn't have had one for my first as someone said you don't know what is going to happen and how you cope with it. I'm a complete wimp when it comes to pain as well thought I would have an epidural but labours have been too fast so I have missed out.

mummypig - I agree I don't need someone for the birth/postnatal/breastfeeding stuff but helping out with the DDs and the house would be nice. DP is taking 2 weeks holiday start of July so if this baby is good she could arrive the night of the last day of his hols.

Off for my second midwives appointment this afternoon with the DDs so should be fun. Need to remember to ask for prescription for Gaviscon.

JODIEhavingababy · 18/03/2008 17:00

Afternoon,

Well, you've been chatty this morning! I must admit I'd never heard of a Doula before either... Thanks for the enlightenment...

SK Thanks for that link re. weight gain, it says I 'should' put on 1 stone 5 oz, well I'm there already, so there goes that theory! Anyway I've given up caring, it dropped off me once DS was born, and even faster once he started crawling, so I'm not too worried, just plenty of walking with the buggy once babies born.... (weather permitting!)

DH's birthday went OK in the end, he went to the pub 'early doors' and a few of his friends were there and then we had steak for tea, I even let him get his wicked way with me! And that's a real treat as my libido gone into hiding too, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was starting to think there was something wrong, last time I wanted 'IT' all the bloody time, now, it makes me feel horrible and I'm not even sensitive to the touch either like I was last time... wierd!

Beep Beep, good news about scan.

I've been thinking of monkey24 again... If you're out there lurking, I'm thinking of you.. Anyone heard anything?

NikNakF · 18/03/2008 17:36

Hi all,

Arg I can never keep up!

beepbeep - good news about scan!
sk - already put the weight on that they suggest and more, anyone go any to spare for me?
jodie - glad for you, my libido left a while back and just won't come back
mummypig - hope you feel better soon
twinkle - smile
mummy - great about BA, very inspiring
isaidno - nice one on the relations, as mentioned above seems unlikely for us at moment!

Ok about to be sick from all the nasty indigestion (why, oh, why?) so will leave it at that, have a lovely evening x
