JODIEhavingababy · 15/03/2008 20:00

Now I've read back a few post - well done Libralady, I bet you wish you could have a drink don't you!!

Mummywannabe glad all is well, as EEC said, it's really hard not to overdo it! I have to stop myself thinking 'I'm not ill, I'm only pregnant' which for the most part is true, but you still can't do what your used to!

EEC well done for your babies co-operation! My little bump goes mad for me and DS, but when DH goes near it, no chance!!! DS was exactly the same, I think DH has given up trying!

Mummywannabe · 15/03/2008 20:00

Jodiehavingababy i thought that too! been strangely quiet hasn't it.

Kaz1967 · 15/03/2008 20:43

It has been quiet I have not been around much recovering from over doing it on Thursday ye Seeing flats was cancelled thank god due to their sickness I honestly don't think I would have been able to concentrate getting branston hicks on and off all day and my back is killing me too. Still had to go shopping mind as not much food in been asleep practically since I got home.

Hope people have had a good day it was rather soggy here

disneystar · 16/03/2008 07:22

bebejones congrats on your little girl

thanks to all of you sending me a big hug and being so very positive this is just such a tremendous place to be.

weather atrocious here today, its just me up and a cup of tea on here its so quiet totally bliss.takingthe boys to a soft play today to release some energy,im sure everyone round here will have the same idea so it will be packed.

my ds chickenpox on the way out now he came out in spots on wednesday do they usually go this quickly?

gonna grab myself some toast in peace before they all descend on me and realise im down here

Mummywannabe · 16/03/2008 10:55

Disney - just be warned that often children get a second crop of spots 3 days or so after initial ones. Hopefully yours got it mildly and it is going but i've seen it so often in nursery where parents bring children back in and then they have fresh blisters and have to go home again!

Kaz - what do your braxton hicks feel like? wondering if this is what was wrong with me on friday as had funny twinges in the night last night, how many weeks are you?

isaidno · 16/03/2008 11:24

Is anyone else counting the minutes before lunchtime?

I have lots of braxton hicks - tummy goes hard and tense.

TJuice · 16/03/2008 11:42

are those braxton hicks? i thought it was the baby turning around. i also thought that braxton hicks only happened right at the end or pg.???

having felt smugly well for this middle part of the pregnancy, i am down with a cold right now and feel shitty. and i am flying back to london tomorrow so know my head will feel like imploding on the flight.

since i can't use cold remedies or sinus sprays, i was trying to use this old neti pot from my former yoga days - totally impossible and lame . . . .

feeling a bit weird and clingy since i will be away from my dp for two weeks which is really unusual (i usually love having a break and going home to my family without him). must be hormones . . .

sweetkitty · 16/03/2008 12:28

Happy Sunday everyone not a bad day here but theres always a thread of rain.

Re: braxton hicks I never had one with DD1, the first pain I ever got was after my waters had gone. With DD2 I had loads and they would make you stop and take your breathe clean away. Haven't had any yet no looking forward to them again though.

DP felt DD3 move for the first time last night she was going mad in bed last night, her feet are really low down in my groin to the right just now, plenty of time for her to turnaround so not too worried.

Tjuice - enjoy your time back home

disneystar - trying to remember when the DDs spots went I remember them having a few crusty ones left about a week after they got them but the fluid filled blisters lasted about 2-3 days I think.

Kaz1967 · 16/03/2008 12:38

Braxton Hicks (I always spell it wrong ) are basically the practice contractions they start about 20 weeks on but you cannot always feel them until later. Usually part of the uterus contracts and goes tense and hard from anything from a few seconds to 5 minutes.

I get them if I do too much too quickly, often half way round the supermarket.

These too are quite good

www.parentingweekly.com/pregnancy/pregnancy_information/braxton_hicks.htm

Tjuice Have you tried steam? ty it and take a dose of paracetamol before you fly take a large bag of boiled sweets and suck them the whole journey Going up is often easy because you know it is going to happen, having flown with an ear infection tI know the plain often starts descending before the seatbelt signs come on and the only way to try and cope is suck the whole flight. Does not always work but may help

MissChika · 16/03/2008 13:24

Happy Sunday everyone! Just thought I'd pop in and say hello esp after spotting posts re braxton hicks. I think I have just started getting them too over the past week. Not majorly noticeable but definitely a tightening of my abdomen. I remember that my sister was really concerned about hers as she got them from quite early on but from what I've read it is quite normal. I'm 24 + 5.

Tjuice - also wanted to say that I felt so much better after doing a steam bowl with a few drops of olbas oil in. I was really surprised at how much it cleared my sinuses and head when I had really bad bug. When I didn't have olbas oil I tried fennel seeds (only thing in the flat I could think of with a strong, medicinal type smell!) and that improved the congestion somewhat.

Hope you all have a good afternoon even if the weather is as grim as it is here!

M x

EEC · 16/03/2008 13:48

'Braxton Hicks: sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks, although you won't be able to feel them that early. You probably won't start to notice them until sometime after midpregnancy, if you notice them at all (some women don't).' (lifted from baby centre web site)

I have been feeling them since about 12 weeks! Not at all painful, just very tense, firm uterus. It does tend to happen when I've been rushing around.

Miserable day - am just about to start a mamouth game of Risk with DCs....

MrsHOP · 16/03/2008 16:19

hi everyone - hope all is well this grotty sunday!

went to John Lewis to look at buggies with DH today - which is great as it means the next trip we can take MIL and I won't feel like she is pushing us into a decision...think I was being a bit of a hormonal cow to poor DH in the week about his mum though, I am truly horrendous sometimes

Had a really nice night in last night, DH played me records while I worked on my cross stitching, I am loving being boring at the mo! xxx

isaidno · 16/03/2008 17:32

Did you see any buggies you like Mrshop? As a first timer you are allowed to overindulge in something fabulous!

libralady · 16/03/2008 18:41

Well I am back but I have no voice.

The atmosphere around Cardiff and especially inside the stadium was out of this world. We had french sitting next to us on both sides and they were great.

Got a little worried when it became stalemate after Henson was sin binned for 10 minutes but then Shane and Martin Williams sealed our 2nd Grand Slam in 4 years.

Really wish I could have had a drink but I was disginated driver. I don;t think I have ever had such a surreal experience. Little one was licking me throughout the match, wasn't sure if it was my shouting and singing, or all the noise around me!

Even though the weather was atrocious, everyone was still enjoying themselves whether Welsh or French.

Have just got to come down to earth with a bump now. Glad I've taken tomorrow off work to recover. Makes it a short week for me, just Tuesday and Thursday then a nice long weekend again next weekend.

Hope everyone is well on this horrible rain and windswept Sunday.

libralady · 16/03/2008 19:38

I really must preview my posts. I promise not a drop of alcohol passed my lips.
DH is English and obviously my family hail from the valleys but after yesterdays experience DH is seriously considering changing his allegience, purely as he was so impressed about the passion and support the Welsh have for their team.

DS does has had a lot of Welsh shirts since he's been born, but that is of course of my doing, and I refuse to buy him anything English. As far as I am concerned, that was DH's job. Maybe now it's not a problem!

Seeing as my cousin already is in the squad, maybe I could get my DS in the back door.

Here's hoping DS2 will be as interested as well. I've already bought him a bib with 'Born to play for Wales' on it!

pigleychez · 16/03/2008 20:06

Hi everyone,

Just got back from a long weekend in Cornwall. Sadly the weather was crap! Its peed it down most of the time, so much so that are some places we didnt even get out of the car.. just saw the sea from the carpark. Shame but was still funny!

Whilst away DH felt baby for the first time.
He felt baby wriggling around and giving him a kick. Hes very happy! Baby is getting stronger now and really boots me, so much so that even DH saw my hand move when it kicked. DH's birthday today so a great prezzie for him.

Havent been on since wednesday night so lots to catch up on- Apologise if i miss anyone out.

Jodie and Gilly- Glad everything went well on the scans and a blue one for Jodie

Disney- Congrats on the boy. Try not to worry too much. I know Wed must seems ages away- Thinking of you.

bebejones- congrats on the girl

Mummywannabe - I had horrible stomach cramps on tuesday. Was doubled over for a bit and it was alittle worrying. Luckily they soon passed and havent had any since.

Braxton Hicks- I too have had tightenings for a few weeks now (23+1 today), just thought it was baby moving. I too only thought they happened nearer the end. Always such a lot to learn during pregnancy.

UmmFulaan- Welcome Hope your complications arent causing you too much worry.

Twinkle- Great the scan went well and they behaved All those scans- id love to see my baby that often

Been buying some more baby bits whilst in Cornwall. Found some lovely little baby shops

Im now off work using up holiday till after easter which is fab.

TJuice · 16/03/2008 22:21

thanks for the flying/sinus tips - I will give them a try.

so now i know more about Branston Hicks (as I called them earlier by mistake!). pretty cool really, but then, that's because they don't really hurt right now.

Kaz1967 · 16/03/2008 22:32

TJuice that I think was my fault I had branston pickle and ham sandwiches on the brain

Kaz1967 · 17/03/2008 00:16

Oh boy a certain little person in my tummy is going nuts tonight they have been wiggling and squirming for over an hour now and I want to go to sleep but no way I can with this amount of activity only half mind if you understand what I mean

Kaz1967 · 17/03/2008 01:05

I think someone is in training to be a gymnast for the 2012 Olympics they are still at it now

beepbeep · 17/03/2008 07:33

Morning all. 5 hours til scan, god i hope everything's ok - it's been the longest 5 weeks ever. Tried to be positive and rational, I know there's nothing i can do to change the outcome so i just hope it's a positive one.

Kaz - i think my LO is looking at being your LO's biggest competitor - pretty sure DD didn't wriggle this much! Also found it hard to sleep last night, but brain was on overtime about today. Luckily i can normally sleep through the wriggling.

libralady · 17/03/2008 08:30

Well finally DH has felt LO. I've been feeling it for nearly 10 weeks now, adn although DH has been able to see my stomach moving, he has been unable to feel it kicking until this morning that is. Even DS felt LO kicking him in the bath last night, or was he just saying that, after all he is only 3 but is excited about the prospect of a sibling.
He doesn't like the title of Big Brother, as far as he is concerned he is a big boy not a big brother.
Still don't have much of a voice, and have the prospect of doing the houseowrk this morning before seeing the MW this afternoon. Taking DS with me, as she is the same MW I had when I was expecting him. She hasn't seen him since he was 6 days old, so I think she'll see a difference in him.
Hope everyone is well this Monday morning. Good luck with any scans to anyone this week.
Catch you later........

MrsHOP · 17/03/2008 10:27

Morning all!

A Monday morning question for all you seasoned birth-givers, have any of you tried TENS machines for labour? And are they worth it? I have heard they are a good way to get through the early stages but haven't done much research as yet - thought I would ask you guys first!

Also, what does SPD feel like, is it like a sharp pain/stitch very low down, mainly on one side? I think I had it this morning - woke up with what felt like a stitch, went to the loo and it didn't get any better, has only just calmed down now...

Isaidno - unfortunately the one we liked the best was the bugaboo gecko (HOW much?!?!) but they didn't have the mamas and papas range there - we like the look of the pliko. DH is pretty sure his mum will want to shell out for the most expensive but I want to make a completely informed decision!

JODIEhavingababy · 17/03/2008 10:39

Morning everyone.

Hope you are all OK...

MrsHop I used a TENS machine and I thought it was useless! but I have friends who couldn't have been without theirs... I would say, hire one and see for yourself, every bit of pain relief helps!!!!!

It's my DH's Birthday today and he is in sucha a sulk coz it's Monday, and Monday is a crap day to have a birthday apparantly!!! He's done the typical thing of not organising ANYTHING with his friends, and then getting annoyed coz no one is doing anything!! Bloody men, how am I going to put up woth 3 of them???

sweetkitty · 17/03/2008 11:55

hi everyone not much to report here, think all the LOS are getting very active by the sounds of it. Makes it seem a bit more real.

MrsHop - I never used a TENS but I don't think it would have been of much use as my labours are very painful from the start, was thinking of strapping one to my bum permanently just now though! Bugaboo Gecko looks v nice but the thing I thought about with Bugaboos is they seem v low down to push. SPD not like a stitch IME, it's like a grinding pain when you move along your pubic bone, also pain when opening your legs. Most of my pain is at the back, my pain is when I move my legs up and down (trust me to be different) driving is sore as well keeping my right foot flexed. Stitches are v common in pregnancy as well I remember getting loads especially if I had been walking a lot.

beepbeep - best of luck for today

pigley - welcome back sorry about the rain though, strange we have had the nicest 2 days yesterday and today, I have got a washing out and am thinking about taking the girls out into the garden this afternoon, only thing is the mud, grass is like a bog and you can't say to a 2 and 3yo don't get muddy.

libralady - glad you enjoyed yourself at the rugby being Scottish we didn't DD1 calls herself a grown up girl and already says she has 2 little sisters. I think she has also taken it upon herself to potty train DD2 (I'm avoiding that joy so far) went upstairs last week and could smell something funny, DD1 had done a poo in the potty to show DD2 how to do it and emptied it into the bath! Oh the joys - newborns no problem compared to toddlers.
