TENS machine - I used one with both my labours, but it was more successful with number 2 because I put it on the minute I felt anything happen (with DS1 I didn't realise it was happening!!)

Also make sure you have brand new batteries in it. I will def be getting one again this time.

isaidno · 17/03/2008 12:05

MrsHop - I think the bugaboo stuff looks nice but seems a bit of a faff to have so many bits to put on!

Minkus · 17/03/2008 12:21

Hello July folks

Lots of chat to catch up on from the weekend!

lol Kitty at the poo in the bath! Just what you wanted I'm sure

MrsHop my TENS machine was great, really believe it helped a lot. If you do buy or hire one the advice I would give is to not be afraid to crank it up- I was reluctant to turn it up to the next level each time as I was worried that I would get to the maximum too soon and then be left with nothing else. There were 10 levels of "power" on the one I hired and I only got to level 3, think that I would have got even more benefit out of it had I turned it up even more. Hired mine from Boots for about £30 I think for a 4 week window, was free to extend too if you went overdue. They come with new batteries and pads too which is convenient.

Jodie my dh is always the same about his birthdays too! Can you get a couple of friends over this evening for an impromptu curry/chinese that might help.

Hello again piggles glad you enjoyed holiday despite the rain and good luck beepbeep for todays scan.

Sorry if I've missed others out there was just too much to catch up on for my small, addled, mummy brain!
Well DS is lots better now, and DH has made a miraculous recovery from his bug so maybe it was more over-indulgence related than I thought- either way I'm exhausted after being the fetcher of paracetamol and carrier of nourishing soups for 4 days
Ah bless men gotta pander to their need to be mothered sometimes (as long as the payback comes in the form of nice handbags and dinners out)

My bump has started getting in the way of things now- bending down, sitting on the sofa remotely elegantly, that sort of thing. DOn't think I am getting Branston Hickles but I didn't ever notice them with DS either so I suppose I could be but just not aware of them.

Have a good day all- I am trying to create order in my house as after 4 days of us all being here (and me being too busy looking after poorly menfolk to do real housework) it is looking like a squat!

xx

EEC · 17/03/2008 12:46

Beepbeep. Lots of luck with scan today.

Mrs Hop - TENS machine was a waste of time for me - didn't bother with it 2nd time! Maybe I should have another go this time.

Kitty - I remember DD pulling DS's full potty off the table onto her head (had just put it there momentarily to get it out of DD's way!). Lovely toddlers!

Minkus - My bump is starting to get in the way too. It seems early!

libralady · 17/03/2008 13:00

I hired a tems machine from my local midwife and used it throughout my time right up until I got gas and air. Must admit I had it turned up to 10 on the way to the hospital by which time it wasn't really doing anything apart from taking my mind off the contractions.
Have since acquired one for when I had my slipped discs so will check with MW that it is suitable for this birth. I will deffo use it again until I get the wonderful gas and air. The birth went so quickly last time I didn't get my epidural. I was quite proud of that fact, although I won't say no if it is offered this time.

sweetkitty · 17/03/2008 13:26

Does anyone else feel uncomfortable all of the time, I know by the time we get to 35 odd weeks you are uncomfy lots but I feel so stiff and uncomfy am sure it's this bloody pelvic pain as well.

Today I put on a pair of Next maternity jeans size 8 the ones with elastic at the side and they are SO tight. Theres no way they will last. Normal size 8 jeans aren't this bad. Have got a pair of size 10's but they are too big argh I feel like I have trousers that fit me.

Hi everyone,
From the sounds of it, the July antenatal group have had a right week of it (it's taken me 3 hours to catch up after my week away!). Let's hope this week is better for everyone.

Best of luck to everyone having scans and to those that are awaiting further news/tests. It sounds like it has been a trying week for many of the group so here's a hug from me too.

Also, what I would like to know is how come all the books/sites/experienced mums say that the middle trimester is the best when we all seem to be experiencing pretty sh1tty pg symptoms again? I have started to get tired again, experienced my first ever bought of heart burn yesterday, struggle to tie my shoe laces, have a somersaulting baby, spd, and snore horrendously. However, to avoid being too much 'glass half empty' here a few plus sides:

  1. Bigger boobs (for those of us that started as an 'A' cup)
  2. Lots of attention (always a plus as far as I am concerned)
  3. Baby pressies from friends and family
  4. Shopping for baby stuff
  5. Good excuse to get out of things you don't want to do
  6. Eat whatever you feel like because 'the baby wants it'!
  7. A baby at the end of it all (ignoring the labour malarkey)!

Feel free to add to the list if you can think of any other positive aspects to the middle trimester!

MINNIE1 · 17/03/2008 13:58

Hi all,
Getting the BH aswell but as this is the third baby my bump doesnt harden at all (think its down to the lack of muscle left) Can still feel the BH and it is like a phewww moment for me..

Going to find out tommor wheather this is a boy or girl and cant wait and girls ye will be the only ones to find out as DP doesnt want to know and won tell anyone eles till bubs arrives...

  8. Lots of lovely wriggles so you know it's there, but not big enough to really wallop you!
RUMPEL · 17/03/2008 14:21

Hi All,

RE TENS - Mine was really useful for about 3 hours. Then I went into the waterpool. I would recommend but you do need to use it early to be effective.

Have been suffering form a very bad cold, throat infection for the last week and feeling hellish. Not slept properly since last Tuyesday as I am so snottery. Went to pharmacy yesterday to see what drugs I could get - soluble paracetomol and a throat spray. I am feelingvery sorry for myslef as am so tired and emotional - boo hoo! Poor me syndrome

DH is taking Thurs, Fri off and off Mon anyway so that will be good. It is our 5th Anniversary on Sat so we might even manage a meal! He can watch DD too to let me get some work done - essay due in in April and my brain is about as intelligent a bowl of mushy peas just now!

SWEETKITTY - I feel quite full a lot fo the time now - I don't remember feeling that with DD. Like my bump is really getting in the road of me bending etc. and that tight stuffed feeling.

BEEP BEEP - hope it goes well!

I haven't bought anything for this LO yet Will go check out a P&T at some point.

DD and me have dentist tomorrow (terrified emoticon) new one too as not been since moved here! Argg! Please don't let me need anything done. Have ordered a new bra form hotmilk as boobies (more like back) getting too big for this one now:

Take care all.xxx

RUMPEL · 17/03/2008 14:22

Incidently have put on 7lbs now - where is everyone else on the weight gain scale?

sweetkitty · 17/03/2008 15:00

That bra is lovely am definitely going to treat myself soon theres no way I am wearing those nasty big white [grey] M&S saggy maternity bras this time.

On the weight gain probably about 10-11lbs so far, I am really not bothered about weight I will eat what I want and worry about it afterwards although with 3 under 5 doubt I will have time to eat anyway, I've dropped a dress size after each baby anyway without even thinking about it (cow emoticon I know) DD1 I put on 2 stone but was a stone overweight anyway, DD2 3 stone but it was all bump. I'm really not stressing about it well apart from finding clothes that I feel comfy in. Think I'm destined for joggy bottoms for the next few months.

Rumpel - i know what you mean about studying - spent weekend doing my next essay. trying to get one ahead for when baby arrives. doing degree through open university so can work quicker but not slower unfortunately. Glad i'm not the only one mad enough to still be studying!

Re: weight - have put on about 17lb 3 of that in the last 2 weeks, honestly turning into a weeble! Mostly bump, boobs -they are huge , and bum .

EEC · 17/03/2008 16:13

Never weigh myself (thank goodness) - but feel like I've put on loads - though mainly bump I hope. But...My boots are getting tight!? . Surely my calves cannot be getting fatter!

Admire those of you studying.

pigleychez · 17/03/2008 16:14

oh dear! Days off work are terrible!
Too much time browsing the web.... ive just ordered the cot mattress and a swinging chair thing for baby.
I love shopping!

A few weeks ago id only gained 5lbs so far but this long weekend away has meant eating out everynight and snacking on lots of fudge and cream teas. Dread to think how much now

Sweetkitty- i know what you mean about the delightful maternity bras. Mine are from Mothercare but are the most boring unsexy things you have ever seen! What with the bras and the almost over the bump size bigger knickers i must look super attractive to poor DH!
Maybe ill have to treat myself to something nice like theose ones.

tafftaff · 17/03/2008 16:40

I so know what you mean about the unsexiness of some maternity clothing. I made a panic purchase and bought a thoroughly unsexy maternity bra because of the additional guilt of wearing underwired (not sure what the reason was but conformed nonetheless!).

To top it off I then bought a pair of maternity jeans with a huge tummy band from H&M which I love but when coupled with the bra, there isn't a great deal of flesh to be seen. To finish off the look I added a pair of flight socks (again, worrying about DVT whilst pregnant) and I reckon i could have given Kate Moss a run for her money! In my eyes I was hot!!!! Fortunately, my dp has a sense of humour and even tried on the maternity jeans to humour me (or pity me!).

minipinkscottish · 17/03/2008 17:18

Hi all

Just wanted to share my news!! I told work today that I was starting my maternity leave earlier than I had originally planned. I am actually going to finish the first week in May - I will be 30 weeks I only work 3 days a week and so I have this week and next then 2 weeks hols then 4 weeks after that - so only 17 days to go!!!

After the bad bug last week - the torn stomach muscle and the inflamation of the oesophegus - enough is enough!!!

I'm so excited!!!!!

sweetkitty · 17/03/2008 17:25

congratulations MPS altbough with your other DC how much of a rest will you get on maternity leave?

Re maternity clothes I don't want to look especially sexy just a member of the human race would be great. My other maternity jeans are too long and I don't want to spend £8 getting them altered for a few months serves me right being a shortarse. I'm still in normal bras (take them off at night though)

Probably put on another 7lbs this week, was unpacking Tesco delivery and managed to eat 2 Tunnocks caramel wafers and a packet of crisps oh and loads of fruit I was making for the DDs. Am off for healhty stir fry now!

tafftaff · 17/03/2008 17:34

MiniPink, certainly sounds very sensible and I am totally jealous! I confirmed with my boss that my last day will be 20th June leaving 4 weeks before the baby is due! Not sure if that is the wisest move but as this is my first one I haven't got a clue what is a reasonable time to have off!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/03/2008 17:34

sweetkitty it i so hard not to eat - i am fast approaching 1 stone gain and according to fab weight gain thing i should gain 2 stone 2 so feasting on crap at the rate i am is going to have to end!!

how much weight we should gain

isaidno · 17/03/2008 17:45

I should gain 2 stone 2 according to that PYBF. I had just gained a stone about 10 days ago, so I suppose that's okay. (I am 24 + 4 today) Not much point worrying about it too much!

Minkus · 17/03/2008 17:47

Rumpel that bra is gorgeous- it would confuse the hell out of dh though if I turned up in something so pretty .

But we did manage to do, erm, "the deed" last night which I think is the first time in about a month. Poor dh I just haven't wanted to at all, which is odd cos when pg before, in the middle months I was hounding dh night and day! Think the hyperemesis medication may have affected my libido though, I have managed to stop taking it (yay!) and although I am still being sick frequently it is manageable without drugs for the moment so thats a bonus. Also been having those really rude dreams again which is nice! Must add that to the list:

  8. Lots of lovely wriggles so you know it's there, but not big enough to really wallop you!
  9. Deliciously rude dreams
PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/03/2008 17:48

isaidno we must be twins

i m more concerned this time as when we release these bairns into the world it will be midsummer and everyone will be 'feelin' pretty'

strappy vest tops will be in abundnce and at this rate so will my butt and ham arms! vain i know ...

beepbeep · 17/03/2008 17:49

All good at the scan thank goodness, head has gone from 3rd to 75th percentile, femur from 3rd to 50th and stomach is now on the 90th - so much for them being concerned it was a small baby! Oh and placenta has moved up so all in all huge sighs oh relief and can hopefully go on to actually look forward to the baby! (didn't find out sex)

Ordered P&T this afternoon, apparently they've stopped doing the charcoal, sand and another colour and there is a wait for the black one (mid april at mo) so have put ourselves down for the black one.

Also bought a maclaren off ebay yesterday as DD doesn't really need the Jane anymore and it is getting too heavy as i'm getting bigger. cannot wait for it to arive.

Re maternity clothes, most of what i'm wearing is from last time round, nothing special and would have liked a new wardrobe but can't justify it for a few months!

tafftaff - very jealous. need the get my matb1 when see midwife tomorrow, only have2 days to get it in!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/03/2008 17:51

omg that is such bad news beep beep as i want sand!!
