Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm POOPED!! Made it through the early morning without puking so I decided to be adventureous. Loaded DD in the Tahoe for a pre-birthday shopping spree. She picked out a tutu, two t-shirts and an evening gown . The dress had been very expensive but was marked down to 10% of the original price...perfect for a "play-dress". She loves dressing up and dancing around the house. After shopping we dined at a wonderful country restuarant...where she chose to eating nothing. Then we went swimming at the YMCA. I don't think I'm going to get out bed for the rest of the day (it's only 3pm here). The MS by the way was only hiding. As soon as I got home I BARFED. YUK! While shopping I picked up a few baby items too...snap front shirts, socks and a rattle. I found this incredible designer pacifer purse that I'll probably use to carry my cell phone in for the time being. And last but not least I bought some Tummy Butter, just in case. [to be so tired I'm quite wordy]

Captain HOORAY for 13WEEKs TODAY!! For those totally confused about current date versus due date: Just know there's two different points of view...dating from LMP and dating by scan. All in all there's an overall average of 280 days in a pregnancy. For all pratical purposes, everything you "do" will be based on you LMP date, like how many weeks you are for a nuchal scan. The Estimated Due Date the medical industry uses will go up and down depending on findings on any given day. IT'S BEST TO KNOW YOUR LMP DATE so you can COMPARE THE SCAN (or other) EDD DATE. For example if you know you're 13+5 and you get scanned and they tell you the baby is 11+6 THAT SHOULD RAISE A RED FLAG...the baby is not progressing possibly. But if you are 13+5 and the baby measures 14+2 there's little cause for concern since there's a + or - of 5 error days built into the scan. STILL doctors will MOVE your EDD to coinside with the 14+2 measurement. Crazy isn't it!! For me it's just easier to stick with my LMP EDD. Honestly it's not going to make the baby come any quicker in the end because last I heard the baby doesn't get the due date memo while in the womb...

TwilightSurfer · 07/02/2008 21:41

IlanaK I've been thinking about your situation. Do you know your LMP date? If you do not exceed 13+6 from that date, the nuchal scan should still be available to you despite any scan dating. The 1st trimester nuchal scan dates go from 11+1 to 13+6, a tiny tiny window. But I'll add again it's only a statistical device. Having a 1:95 returned so far, if you really are worried, the amino is trully your best option. It is FACT and not STATISTICAL JIBBERISH. But all in all 1:95 isn't a bad statistic.

TwilightSurfer · 07/02/2008 21:44

Oh and ladies this Palmer's Tummy Butter is devine. It has a wonderful smell. It isn't sticky..soaks in quickly. I might need to apply it to my WHOLE BODY.

IlanaK · 08/02/2008 08:31

Thanks Twighlightsurfer, but by LMP date I am 15+4 today so way too late for nuchal scan.

I have decided to just wait and see what happens at the 20 week scan. If I am happy with the sonographer, the time he/she spends on the scan, and any explanation they give to me about odds etc then I will leave it at that. If not, I may go for a private 20 week scan at the FMC and just get a more detailed explanation and odds.

CaptainCaveman · 08/02/2008 08:43

TS I use Palmers Cocao body butter -hmmm, smells like chocolate and served me well for last pg

Feeling gross today - slept crap and ds thought that 2am and 6am were good times to be waking up

Need to go searching for clothes that fit today. Especially work tops/blouses - look like some fat knacker who is wearing ill fitting clothes at the moment

Another good site is here It gives you pics of babies in the womb etc.

Has anyone switched from folic acid to other pg vitamins - desperately hoping something can lift this exhaustion!!! It's getting worse not better.

Lcy · 08/02/2008 09:18

Hello everyone

Next weekend i am venturing out of the hills and going to a proper city to find maternity clothes!

What do i need?

I won't be near maternity clothes shops again until i am 20 weeks and my trousers are very tight on me now. Please can someone give me a list?

Captain Caveman - i understand the exhaustion, i have been coming home from work crying because i am so tired. I have never felt anything like it. I am taking some vegatarian omega oils (that you put on food) and vegatarian pregnancy vitamins.

TS - that body butter sounds divine!

libbyssister · 08/02/2008 09:23

12 weeks today! 12 weeks today!

I celebrated last night by getting the headache FROM HELL! Oh god, I couldn't lie down, or sit up, or go to sleep, or do anything except moan A LOT. And I couldn't even take any decent painkillers . Back at work this morning but still with a dull pain... My poor DH is taking all the flack as DS still has his ear infection. We started him on the antibiotics yesterday as it wasn't improving and he LOVES his banana medicine .

Enough moaning, I'm still 12 weeks today!!

alittlebitshy · 08/02/2008 09:29

Just me panicking again. I really don't think I'm showing yet. Sometimes i think my tummy might be a bit bigger but i'm not needing bigger clothes yet. Of course i'm panicking that something has happened since the scan at 12+1 (now 14+5). Got a week til next scan. argh. v v worried

libbyssister · 08/02/2008 09:30

Hi Lcy

My maternity essential was a good pair of jeans (but then our dress code in the office is a bit slack).

Wrapover style dresses/tops are always quite flattering on a bump.

Make sure you get a 'going out top' as you get sick of wearing the same stuff.

Get layers basically and you can't go wrong as the weather improves. A cardi is more flattering than jumpers on a bump, I think.

Think about what you wear in bed. I convinced myself I didn't need maternity PJs and then went out and bought some at about 25 weeks...

Oooh you'll have fun!

Shazza2002 · 08/02/2008 11:13

Morning ladies

alittlebitshy. I am the same as you. Seem to fill out quite a bit end Dec/early Jan, but now things have slowed a bit. I have just convinced myself that I had over eaten at christmas and that's why I was feeling so bloated then. Now things have calmed and I must be growing at a 'normal' rate. I'm sure once we are waddling about we'll be moaning again then too. HTH

Hi to everybody else. What a lovely day it is today

Had the triple blood test this morning, just have to wait for the results now.

alittlebitshy · 08/02/2008 11:37

I've just watched last night's Ashes to Ashes (the life on mars spin off). Anyone else see it? i was expecting not to like it very much but actually I think it's good . A bit deja vu ish, but I guess that is part of the point of it.....

LadyOfWaffle · 08/02/2008 11:46

Lcy - last time I didn't buy maternity clothes at all (not much of a bump as I am big, just bought bigger clothes), this time I may have to because I am bigger and when you get to really big clothes I think they will be all weird round the bum, and baggy round the legs so might invest in some mat. clothes. I can't even fit into the jeans I had at 42 weeks pregnant last time!

Libbysister - well done

Alittlebitshy - I have no bump at all, I can feel maybe a little swelling (?) type thing under my flabby post baby belly (under as in below), but definatly no bump yet. I am err...O, 14 weeks today

TwilightSurfer · 08/02/2008 12:20

Morning ladies. Have just showered and lathered myself in creamy tummy butter. And yes Captain the chocolate scent is dreamy. My plan is to find more Palmer's products today because THIS STUFF IS WONDERFUL.

Today I have to drop DD at preschool then run to my OB/GYN appointment. Hopefully he has all the results from my perinatologist appointment on Monday. IlanaK, I glanced over the paperwork from that visit and noticed the genetics counselor gave me a 1:97 for downs and a 1:66 for all three items they test for....basically a 2% chance overall of a problem. Now all that was BEFORE bloods and scan. I'll let you know in a few hours what the adjusted stat is.

Alittlebitshy....enjoy your size because when the growing starts you'll reason to cry....it's painful. With my first I honestly didn't start pooching until 4-5 months. It will happen, promise.

Lcy....good luck shopping. I wish I could have you get stuff for me to as I'm an idiot maternity wear shopper.

IlanaK · 08/02/2008 12:25

I spent the morning booking a holiday - yippee! I will be over 6 months pregnant when we go so it has taken ages to call the ariline to find out what letter I need (must be from the doctor the week before going to say that all is well), sorting out insurance that WILL cover pregnancy once it progress to that point (there is only one company I found).

Still, once all the paperwork is out the way, i can look forward to a break!

Shazza2002 · 08/02/2008 13:01

Hi Ilanak

I am hoping to get away for a holiday too. I was hoping to go beginning of May when I will be 6 months. I'm just waiting at the moment to see how huge I am and whether I'll find swimwear to suit/fit that doesn't make me look like a whale!
Will only be 2 hour flight so just planning at the moment, all depends on how things go and how I feel nearer the time. We didn't have a holiday last year because of moving house so really wanted a break this year, last one with DD on her own for a while.

Be interested in the company you managed to get insurance with?.

Lcy · 08/02/2008 13:03

Libbysister - congratulations for getting to the 12 week mark

alittlebitshy - try not to worry because i think everyone is different. Could you speak to your midwife for a bit of reassurance? I really feel for you waiting for the scan xx

I am only looking at maternity clothes because i dont get to go to good shops very often as i live in the back of beyond. Thanks for all the advice - i am looking forward to shopping! I think i will get a couple of wrap cardigans and some trousers for work (but will prob get loads because i am an excited first time mother )

IlanaK - are you going somewhere nice?

Have a good day everyone

IlanaK · 08/02/2008 13:04

I am also going beginning of May (the 10th to be exact which is also my birthday!). Every company I looked at will not cover anything pregnancy related from between 18-12 weeks before due date. I asked for advice on Mumsnet and was directed to a company called Flexicover Direct which covers up until 8 weeks before due date.

We are going to a Kinderhotel in Austria (have been before and love them). Where are you going?

poppysocks · 08/02/2008 14:37

Afternoon all!

alittlebitshy - don't worry at all about the lack of bump. If it's your first it'll always take longer to show and so much depends on your build. My friend who's 9 weeks ahead of me has a bump only a little bit bigger than mine but it's her first. I'm a small build and she's taller and more athletic so has more space to accommodate the baby before it shows through. I just feel like a heffalump next to her. Goodness knows what it'll be like later!

We've decided to stay in the UK for our hols - May or June I think. We want to take the opportunity to catch up with as many family and friends as we can before we confined to home later in the year....

We ended up going South Africa, including safari, when I was 5 months pg last time - holiday booked before we knew. I managed to get insurance via Direct Line at that stage. We really wondered whether we were doing the right thing still going, but we changed the park we went to so I didn't need malaria tablets and it was actually such a great holiday. Last big one for many years so glad we took the chance when we could!

ChaCha · 08/02/2008 14:52

Well, i managed to catch up with this page of posts today, where do you all find the time? Very envious!

Holidays all sound great, Ilana, having been to kinder hotels before do you recommend them then? DH who is away again this month has told me i can go wherever i like April/May..i went to Turkey last year when the boys were 4months and 18months and was surprised at how much we all enjoyed it, but should really try somewhere different, have toyed with Cyprus (self catering villa as in Turkey as we loved the privacy and swimming pool and meeting locals) and Malaysia something that we'd discussed previously will probably be too much flightwise etc.. Anyone been to Tunis?

I asked a while about tablets too, think it was in response to Shazza's pregnacare post. What can i be taking now? anyone?

Feeling heaps better but get awful cramps right round bump/back but very shortlived, usually just need to sit down and breathe a bit until gone. Get sick from time to time as is norm, had bit of the old SPD pain after 3 mile walk with toddler toddling along and pram but can be expected i guess. Does anyone suffer/suffered from SPD?

Hello to everyone. Oh, my bump isn't that big TBH and this is my third, i'd expected to be MUCH bigger really but as with the boys i didn't get BIG until after 20weeks. Friend who is just expecting is already showing, but she is very tall and very slim.

Got some lovely maternity pj's, pink and very feminine, lovely to get into after bath and relaxation.

Will hope to log on again later, x

Shazza2002 · 08/02/2008 15:26

Will probably just go to Majorca or Portugal. Went to Majorca year before last and DD loved it, keeps asking when we're going back. Do not want to have to say we can't go because mummys pregnant. I know there are loads of other excuses I could make but my DD isn't silly . Absolutely love Cyprus, DP and I had our first few holidays there before having DD, enjoyed everyone of them, lazing by the pool, afternoon umm ahh we'll just leave it there, nice meals out in the evening, just lovely.

ChaCha, I am still taking pregnacare. Not sure if they're helping or not as I think the tiredness has faded in general

Regarding SPD, had a few pains down there and find it hard to sit comfortably on the sofa (all this at 14 weeks!), and I have the pregnancy waddle already. Not good

libbyssister · 08/02/2008 15:38

About pregnancy vitamins... Solgar do vitamins called 'Prenatal' that are for 'pregnant and lactating women' so they see you right through and beyond.

I'm still taking Pregnacare at the moment.

alittlebitshy · 08/02/2008 15:44

re my lack of bump I expected more by now as this is my second, but i guess it has been almost 5 years since i was pg with dd, so.....

Shazza2002 · 08/02/2008 15:55

alittlebitshy Mine has been 5 years also. If I breath in there is nothing there. i just have a bump under my boobs, think that's everything (fat included) getting pushed up

alittlebitshy · 08/02/2008 15:57

phew. thanks! calmed me for now.
Also got v achey back today

Buckets · 08/02/2008 16:06

Lcy - try Primark and Peacocks for supercheap longline tops in bigger sizes, very thin fabrics usually but weather will be warmer when you need them. Think crisscross shape at the bust and fabric flowing down from there - really flattering.
Also, the Additions catalogue has reasonably priced maternity-wear.
