Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
VintageGardenia · 05/02/2008 14:14

Hi everyone, nice to hear of people successfully passing into their thirteenth week and so able to relax a little bit with worries etc. I went to the doctor for an unrelated matter this morning and she casually said you are nearly fifteen weeks now and I nearly fell off the chair! I've not been obsessing about the pregnancy and hadn't really been keeping track other than in the most general kind of way - now I realise how far along I am! Shock, gulp. I still don't have a bump but have put on half a stone (probably more) all over which is vile.

dizzydixies · 05/02/2008 14:14

LofW I've got my downs bloods tomorrow as well although am not sure if they'll still take them with me being ill & on penecillan?

TwilightSurfer · 05/02/2008 14:33

On the subject of downs...the blood being drawn is just a screen so I wouldn't worry about missing it if you really don't want to get it. They just use it for statistical purposes, which mostly scare people. A high or low outcome, honestly, has no bearing on whether you have a child born with the extra chromosome. The only way to get a solid answer is to undergo the diagnostic test...amnio or CVS. I spent 45 minutes with the genetics counselor yesterday, had the bloods drawn, and got an ultrasound. All I wanted was the ultrasound and I think the counselor picked up on that fact. If I wasn't meant to have this baby....chromosome issues or not...the pregnancy would fail. It hasn't failed yet so I'm prepared to care for what I've created.

IlanaK · 05/02/2008 14:36

Ok, I am confused. I was 15 weeks yesterday (so 15+1) today. LMP October 22nd and scan confirmed that as correct date last week. Just rechecked on a pregnancy calculater and my due date is correct on our list - July 28th. But a couple of people mentioned being over 15 weeks now, yet their due dates aren't the same as mine. Have I miscalculated?? I am sure I am 15+1 today and due date July 28th.

poppysocks · 05/02/2008 14:39

Afternoon everyone! Difficult to post at the mo as my Mum's staying. It's great having an extra pair of hands with DD though and it's left DH and I to get on with loads of jobs around the house which had been hanging over us for an embarrassingly long time. One of them was sorting out DD's baby clothes into neat boxes by age in anticipation of future use. Came across packets of breast pads, nipple shields and lansinoh cream. Brought me to tears with a shiver down the spine....

So pleased that there's so much happy news on here. Congratulations on all the great scans! Ours is tomorrow. CANNOT wait!

Dizzydixies - we really are close by! We have a choice re: hospital from here and a few more probably head north of the river. Trouble is that you're not given info on how to choose, so last time, as it was February, we went for Ninewells on the basis that the roads to get there are better as it was the only difference we could fathom! I'm going to Forth Park this time. Had DD at Ninewells but it didn't go very well and all the way through everyone thought the others should be sorting things out (appointments, blood tests, scans etc.) so I ended up missing out on quite a bit or having to do the running myself. I was going to go back to Ninewells - better the devil you know and all that, but changed my mind and thought a change might be worth a try...

TwilightSurfer · 05/02/2008 14:39

IlanaK sometimes I think doctors pull due dates out their %%%. 280 days is 40 weeks. So 280 from you LMP is your due date....that's the BEST number to go by.

dizzydixies · 05/02/2008 14:39

IlanaK maybe thats me thats confusing you. I thought I was 15wks on Monday but my head it soooooooo fuzzy at the moment I could be wrong, although my rough due date is 30th July. If it is me I apologise

VintageGardenia · 05/02/2008 14:41

IlanaK - I have been continually confused over my dates, mainly due to now knowing when LMP was. However the general consensus of everyone else (DP, doctors etc) is that I will be 15 weeks on Thursday and due date is 31st July. (I however insist that due date is 1st or 2nd August.)

I think if everyone else's calculations for me are right then yours of 15 weeks yesterday and due on 28th July are right too.

Oh dear I haven't really made this post very clear but here I go to post it anyway.

dizzydixies · 05/02/2008 14:45

IlanaK and VG seeing as you two seem to be more clued up than me I'll stick myself as 15wks tomorrow - apologies for any confusion caused. I have a terrible cycle and due to shifts we couldn't work out when my LMP was so between me, EPU and Ante natal clinic its possible I've got my wires mixed up. consider me 14+6 till midnight

dizzydixies · 05/02/2008 14:49

poppysocks am sorry to hear you didn't have a good time at ninewells, I had a terrible labour both times but have to say the treatment and staffing were fantastic both times so will be going back there - the only thing I worry about is the random bridge closures for repairs that they have during the week - they could try to stop me I suppose lol I know a few people that have gone to Forth Park and haven't heard anything bad so fingers crossed for you

am very jealous for your spare pair of hands, I seem to be putting a lot on poor DH at the moment as feeling rubbish. Excited to hear about your scan tomorrow.

poppysocks · 05/02/2008 15:09

Dizzydixies - the problem wasn't ninewells per se - it was as much to do with the mixed up care I was receiving from a totally random mix of midwives at the hospital, in St As and Drs here and there. 9 times they said DD was head down, including when I went for a sweep and when they prepared me for induction! It was only after 23 hrs that they found she was actually breech . When she was born everyone agreed that, based on the shape of her head, that's the way she'd always been. Once we knew there was a problem, they were fantastic and she was out, pink and crying within an hour. Glad to hear all has been good for you there. I guess as with anywhere there are always going to be good and bad experiences.

Know what you mean about the bridge. We were worried about closures when I was nearing my due date last time, but reckoned that icy roads down the coast were a more common risk that a closed bridge up the way! Seem to remember I became mildy obsessed with the weather forecast!

Only annoying thing about tomorrow's scan is that if I'd stayed at Ninewells it would have been yesterday. Don't suppose it'll matter after tomorrow though!

VintageGardenia · 05/02/2008 15:28

I can't believe that in such a short time there is going to be a new baby in my arms. My new baby. I don't mean this in a misty-eyed oh I am so blessed kind of way but in a panicked I will never be ready in time kind of way.

I have a nine-year-old DS - not spoilt but as an only child well spotlit! - and have not told him about the new baby yet. Our new house is in a complete state with so much for us to do over next few months. We have two dogs who are a real handful - we have had dog listener, successful, but we still have problems e.g. barking, barging about, jumping up (imagine with a tiny baby!). I am trying to work from home for first time in ages but keep getting distracted by the utter shambles of it.

HEEEELP!

Partic. with DS - anyone else have an older (ie age of reason) sibling to take into account who might advise?

SKYTVADDICT · 05/02/2008 15:42

Think you need to tell him VG. You may be very surprised and he will be delighted. I think there are books on how to break the news but I would just go for it.

My two older DDs (11 and 7) love their new sibling (he is currently 9 months) to bits and are ecstatic that we are having another one! Happier than I'd every thought they would be .

As I am now 40 I am wavering on the downs bloods and don't really want them, as when PG last year they came back as 1 in 200 so I know they will be higher this time as I hit 40! We wouldn't terminate for downs.

I do however want the spina bifida bloods as this was a very unplanned pregnancy folic acid was nowhere is sight! I do have to admit to being a teeny bit worried about it.

Lcy · 05/02/2008 15:53

Hello everyone - glad to hear everyones scans went well and good luck to those still to have them.

Lovely midwife came round today and listened to baby's heartbeat - she said my bump is growing well and baby sounded very active!

TwilightSurfer · 05/02/2008 16:14

Good good LCY!!

Lcy · 05/02/2008 16:17

I loved your scan photo TS

VintageGardenia · 05/02/2008 16:21

Thanks Sky, I know you are right. I'm glad you've had such lovely success with age differences.

I am 35 so a little bit younger than you but I can understand your feeling on the Down's bloods, which I have just had done myself - well, a couple of weeks ago. However what I thought about it was that if it was something I was going to have to deal with - i.e. having a child with Down's Syndrome - that I would much prefer to have the pregnancy time to be able to read up about it, discover resources, etc, than have to do that immediately after birth.

Buckets · 05/02/2008 16:30

VG - hope everything is settling down for you otherwise, I remember you were pretty freaked about this baby. I'm thinking a 9yr old could be pretty damn useful to have around, I'm kinda jealous in fact! I would come out of the closet then people might start offering you baby stuff etc and you'll feel a bit more ready. Workwise, do you have a friend/relative who is a total neatfreak who would love to come and organise you?

VintageGardenia · 05/02/2008 17:26

Buckets, that is pretty thoughtful of you to have remembered that. I do have to come out of the closet, you're right. I still have immed. family I haven't told and plenty of friends who don't know either. Workwise I think the thing to do is to closet myself somewhere and just do it - same as anyone working from home, you have to ignore the dishwasher, the dogs, picking up the Brio, same as you would if you were in the office.

VoodooCoconut · 05/02/2008 19:49

evening folks. Just logging into the new thread.
hope alls well with y'all.

CaptainCaveman · 05/02/2008 20:00

Thanks for new thread Foggy!

Poppysocks, we have our scan tomorrow too!! It's the nuchal scan that it was too early to do a fortnight ago. A little nervous but very excited too. Still feeling ropey, spotty and tired, all in a good cause eh?

How are you all this evening ladies?!

Bea0001InowwishIhadabettername · 05/02/2008 20:32

Just popping in to say that I am I'm thinking of you but that my MS is still going on and now getting me down so I'm just not feeling that chatty, but hopefully when I do get better, soon surely! - I'll be able to catch up and share in everyone's news.

Stay well.
Bx

HazieAndBaby · 05/02/2008 21:25

OMG!! How can there be 3 pages already? I was only on here last nite - chatterboxes! I'll try and get up to date now so sorry if this is a long post!
Thanks to everyone who has admired my pics! I can't stop looking at them and took them to work today for everyone to see, had them out of my drawer at least 15 - 20 times! I still can't get over that the baby in the pic is living inside me!! Do you ever get over it?
stillhere Welcome! This is a brilliant board and everyone is really welcoming and chatty - if you hadn't already noticed!!
poppysocks and CaptainCaveman Wishing you well for tomorrow with your scans, wish I could have mine over again and again!
dizzydixies LOL at the north comment! That's always my excuse when I put on a bit of beef! 'Well it's cold up here so I need my insulation!'
buckets My mum can be a PITA. Think she's jealous of how well I get on with MIL, I think I'm supposed to hate her but I don't know why, probably just cos my mum does. DH and I got married recently and she was always being awkward about it everytime she had to be in same room as MIL, and always using any excuse to get at her - behind her back tho. Grr!
miamla I've been talking to my bump since I knew there was a baby in there, telling it to hang on in there and that I can't wait to meet it. Normally wait until DH isn't in the same room tho!
xx
