Welcome to the second trimester

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HazieAndBaby · 05/02/2008 21:28

Oh, and foghorn we're definitely having a 4d scan although I don't want to know the sex but DH does. Think we'll wait until 28wks or so. Hopefully that means that the baby will still have a little room to move around and will play ball for the pictures!
xx

TwilightSurfer · 05/02/2008 23:02

POPPYSOCKS & CAPTAIN see if you can get your scan person to find the PARTS. Even if they won't officially tell the gender. Still kicking myself here for not asking the doctor to snap a photo of the jewels. GOOD LUCK and ENJOY.

In a cleaning mood today just wish I had more energy to really deep clean. Weather was very dismal looking but warm so I opened up the house. Can't stand it when we have everything closed up for weeks at a time with only the heatpump running. A home needs to BREATH!! Fresh air and a clean (half of a) house always makes me feel good.

TwilightSurfer · 06/02/2008 01:52

Here's proof pregnancy causes memory loss. See this article here.

ElizabethCM · 06/02/2008 02:55

hello everyone, have not posted in ages (terrified of jinxing anything). anyhoo, am so glad to hear about all the happy scans!! and to see all the lovely pictures!! i am so anxious about my first scan next thursday.

just wondered whether anyone else has been having kind of muscle pain in their stomachs? this is my first pregnancy and the last few days my stomach muscles have ached, as though i'd performed 500 crunches. which i can assure you i HAVE NOT!! just wondered whether this was normal or another little niggling worry i can add to my list!

CaptainCaveman · 06/02/2008 07:55

Easier said than done but try not to worry ElizabethCM - it's most likely everything stretching and moving out of the way, to make room for your ever growing baby!!!
Is your scan this tomorrow or next thurs? TS suggested writing a 'worry list' of everything that was worrying you about your scan. Pop it in your purse and after your scan you can check it and laugh/smile at your worries.

Only an hour to go!!! Better get my arse into gear, still got to get washed/dressed, get dh out of bed and get ds to nursery......

catch up with you later. Hope you're all ok today? xxx

dizzydixies · 06/02/2008 10:19

have managed and omlette this morning YIPEE I know with everyone's worry I sound pathetic but have been on soup and jelly and feeling awful for it all week so I'll move on!

hope all the scans set for today are going well, now I have some energy will be thinking positive thoughts for you all

ElizabthCM looking forward to hearing about your scan results, hope your niggles pass really quickly, take care everyone am off to take advantage of the omelette rush lol

Buckets · 06/02/2008 10:26

Anyone else been feeling slightly breathless? I have throughout the first trimester and have been secretly worrying about it (but not enough to do anything, duh!).
Finally just googled it and it's totally normal apparently, due to there not being enough blood for the both of us to begin with. Don't remember feeling it in previous pregs until there were feet and bums kicking me in the diaphragm .

TwilightSurfer · 06/02/2008 11:46

Breathlessness was a BIG problem for me for several weeks. It hasn't been a problem lately. I know there's a chemical reaction with the progesterone that makes you "feel" like you're not getting enough air. Mine symptoms included a bubbliness in my chest.

Elizabeth get ready cause you're in for a lot more pulling and tugging. With my first I went through horrible spells like that. Your body goes through an amazing transformation, quickly. Pain can't be avoided. Best advice is to just take a little pain medication (in the US for me that would be Tylenol) every six hours or so and definitely before bed. I still have spells and this is DC#2 but it's nothing like the first one. You'll be fine though.

Can't wait to see those scan pics (or at least hear about the stories). Weather's cRaZy here this morning. Tornadoes all over the place.... Must go and read about all the politial news as we had some big preliminary primaries last night. I don't know anybody here who isn't concerned about who our next president's going to be.

mummypud · 06/02/2008 14:12

i too have been a bit out of breath but my main problem is headaches, went to doc about an unrelated matter and he said if the head aches get worse to go back . i went to get my bounty bag [ may be a uk thing?] today . has anyone else got thiers?

ChaCha · 06/02/2008 14:21

OMG a new thread and 60 messages - will never catch up now will I? That's what happens when you don't log in for a day!!

Well, hoping that everyone is okay. I have been feeling a lot better but after DS2's b'day party yesterday am feeling a bit rough today and very nauseous. How is everyone else? Have i missed any more scans?

DD - Hope you're feeling better now, just noticed you had an omelette earlier (oh no, i am thinking omelette for lunch now) so glad you are able to eat something different now. Sorry for all else i missed, can only try to catch up when the Los are asleep.

13+3 x

CaptainCaveman · 06/02/2008 17:44

Scan fine, little bean is 66mm and they've changed my due date (again) to Aug 14th. Downs risk is 1 in a thousand and something (same risk as a 15 yr old the mw told me ). Didn't get to see girl or boy bits as scanner was only doing nuchal measurements plus head circumference and crown to rump length.
Brilliant. Am totally over the moon and chilled out now!!

Hope yours was ok too poppysocks?

xxx

IlanaK · 06/02/2008 17:48

Congrats to people who have had good scan results!

The midwife called me today to say the results of my downs blood test were back and they put me at high risk - 1:95. You might recall that when I had my scan last week, they put my dates forward and said it was too late to do the nuchal. I ended up having the quadruple blood test (they test four hormones and factor in age and scan measurements). I don't think it is that accurate and I am not that worried, but I asked if it was possible to have a nuchal done at a later date. She said no.

So I am now looking into whether I can have some sort of diagnostic private scan. If anyone has any info on this, please let me know.

Buckets · 06/02/2008 18:30

Oh Ilana, on top of your other health issues you now have to consider the possibility of an amnio one day too, poor you. No practical info or advice I'm afraid, just a big hug.
I've had a sicky knackered day, spent afternoon under a blanket watching Sound of Music. What is the point of being 13wks gone and still looking and feeling crap eh?
Not putting up my scan pic as it's fairly blobby and unimpressive LOL.

poppysocks · 06/02/2008 18:30

So pleased to hear all well for you CC. All good here too. Little one waggling around and measuring 67mm - almost snap! She said that she was happy to leave my date as 17th and that would be correct to within 3 days - so we should be somewhere between the two!

Actually, I won't be as I saw the consultant too. He was really great and we discussed the problems I had last time and we've agreed I'll have a c-section during my 39th week. There's a part of me that's a bit disappointed that I'll never be able to conqueror the demons from last time, but I'd far rather be safe than sorry.

Asked about gender and the sonographer said no chance and we didn't catch sight of any flashing! Next scan's 25th March so we'll find out then if he/she plays ball.

IlanaK - didn't someone say a while ago that there was a second window for the nuchal scan at around 15 weeks?

Glad you're starting to feel a little bit better Dizzydixies.

Such a relief today. I'm officially pregnant!

RachAndFamousNot · 06/02/2008 18:33

Hi, been lurking but not posting. Had a couple of scans and downs screening etc which came back fine. However they found that baby has an enlarged bladder at the scan, which may sort itself out, or it may not, in which case kidneys can't work properly and there won't be enough amniotic fluid for the lungs to develop. First consultant was pretty pessimistic but 2nd opinion a bit more optimistic that may resolve itself. Key word here is may, I think. Need to wait another 2 weeks for another scan.

I'm not very good at waiting.

Lcy · 06/02/2008 18:54

RachAndFamousNot - i am so sorry to hear that. It will no doubt be a stressful 2 weeks - try and focus on the optimistic opinion. I hope you will get lots of support from your family xx

dizzydixies · 06/02/2008 19:01

rachandfamousnot am devestated that you haven't had better news recently. Am hoping that 1st consultant is a mickey mouse Dr and that 2nd consultant knows what they're talking about and has more experience in all things to do with this. I haven't got any personal knowledge of this but there MUST be someone on mumsnet that would be able to tell you a bit about it - maybe if you're feeling strong enough to talk about it you could post on the general pregnancy board and see? I know when I started bleeding a few weeks ago and convinced myself that all was lost this was where I turned to and received fantastic support and advice.

wishing you all the love and luck for the next few weeks and please PLEASE don't lurk if you're needing cheered up - am the original moaning minnie on this thread and am sure the girls will be delighted to help you as they've helped me.

take care xxx

TwilightSurfer · 06/02/2008 19:30

YEAH to Poppy and Captain!! Glad all went perfectly today.

Check this out. It clearly states the sex can be determined earlier than 20 weeks with great accuracy. And yes, there is a second nuchal scan...mine will be at 16 weeks. I think though you have to have the first one in order to have the second one because they compare the two to get your statistical data. Could be wrong ...

Rach, fetus' are little miracles and can do amazing things in the womb. Things will all work out for the best. Promise.

CaptainCaveman · 06/02/2008 19:52

baby piccy on profile!! Not brilliant but can't get a decent enough photo of the scan pic and we don't have a scanner.

Jennylee · 06/02/2008 20:04

Twilight surfer and buckets, you have cleared something up that has been worrying me, the breathlessness, so relieved that it is normal, i never had it with my first pregnancy, and am getting a lot of twinges. so it really helps joining these threads. is nice to read about peoples scans too.

TwilightSurfer · 06/02/2008 21:57

Captain that's a lovely picture. Hazie, yours too if I haven't already mentioned it. I just ran back through everyone here and I believe that's all the scan pics posted so far (besides mine too), right? Have I missed someone??

Jennylee my breathlessness made me a bit anxious a few nights. So thankful it's passed.

HazieAndBaby · 06/02/2008 22:49

ElizabethCM I was just talking to my friend about my stomach muscles being sore earlier today. She's 28wks at the moment and says she remembers this as her uterus stretching so nothing to worry about. I'd forgotten the feeling as pain from sit-ups as havn't done any in years!

RachAndFamousNot It's easy to say but try not to panic. As the other girls have said, there may be someone on one of the other boards whomay have experience of this and could possibly put your mind at rest. This has helped me when I've had weird pains, or bleeding or anything and even just reading the posts through without posting yourself can sometimes help. Wishing you the best. x

I told a few more 'friends' last nite that I was preg and the response was lukewarm to say the least! One of them, who has just moved in with her boyfriend of 9mths and his 14yr old son and is not finding life so rosy anymore now that she's dealing with his son on a daily basis said to me, 'If I could give you any parenting advice it would be don't have the baby!' Nice! Fair enough, she didn't know about how worried I've been about things since the day I found out I was preg, nor does she know that we were trying for 9mths to get preg, but she didn't ask either or bother to listen when I was trying to tell her this. Just feel a bit rubbish now and wish I hadn't said anything xx

TwilightSurfer · 06/02/2008 23:36

Hazie just crunk your friends comments in the trash. They don't matter anyway. You are where you want to be in your life, PREGNANT, and that's excellent. Oddly I found that your friends tend to shift during life changing experiences. Some come back into your life that have gone for a while and others disappear all-together and then some vibrant new ones are created. Just wait till you start doing prenatal classes or mommy & me classes. It's a whole new world your about to experience. Always remember though you're surrounding by positive vibes here anytime, all the time.

MillieMooMoo · 07/02/2008 08:48
