Welcome to the second trimester

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dizzydixies · 08/02/2008 16:15

hi ladies
am a bit down having spent all morning in hosp after another red bleed yesterday. MW and Dr couldn't find heartbeat using sonic aid so I had to wait over 2hrs for scan. They've found heartbeat and moving baby but have also found large clot which will have to come out and according to nice Dr man the size of clot in comparison to size of baby is not a good thing. I think he's basically telling me that if clot comes it might bring baby with it as he kept going on about mc and trying again.

Needless to say and hoping for best but preparing for worst. Consultant wants to see me in another wks if nothing has happened inbetween.

desperately trying to cling on to positive thoughts

sorry to barge in on all your nice posts
x

alittlebitshy · 08/02/2008 16:37

oh my god dizzy
Did the clot not show up on previous scan???
Are they waiting for clot to come out naturally, and is there any way it can be reabsorbed ???

loads and loads of hugs. DO keep talking to us.
xxx

PennyBenjamin · 08/02/2008 16:54

Hey Dizzy - really sorry to hear that, must be so worrying for you. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Try to stay positive, babies can be a lot tougher than we think.

x

poppysocks · 08/02/2008 17:01

Oh Dizzydixies. So sorry to hear you've had such a terrible time and such uncertainty. Fingers and toes crossed for you.

dizzydixies · 08/02/2008 17:09

thanks guys. Am not sure if I explained it very well but its all a bit confusing. I had a heavy bleed at 12wks and they told me it was due to membrane seperation and as long as it tailed off and went brown it was ok. It was doing that until yesterday when it started on red again so off I went to hosp truely believing I was making a fuss about nothing but just doing as I was told by going back if it went red. Put on ward (ante-natal didn't have any clinics on) and waited. Obs taken and midwife tried to hear heartbeat with sonic aid and couldn't/ Dr then asked hundred questions and had another listen - still could't hear but apparently not unusual at only 15wks. Sent for scan where the found baby/heartbeat etc measuring 15+4 but also found another large area of membrane seperation which was new and not the same as the previous one. It is apparently larger in size and newer and will have to come out the only way it can. Went back to ward thinking oh well, same thing with pads/bleeding etc until Dr came back and sat having a chat about how common m/c were and because I'd previously had one I would know its just nature's way etc Just about fell over and decided was no longer time to be complacent about whole thing. This bleed is apparently a lot bigger in actual size than the baby and if am understanding him right when it eventually comes it may bring baby with it but its all good as we can try again?!?!?! I haven't even lost this one and he's going on about trying again

was given triage number and told to phone if big bleed/abdominal or back pains etc and to come home and put feet up as much as possible- he obviously doesn't have 2 kids! number was given by midwife who basically informed me that at this stage if its going to happen its going to happen and there isn't much they would be able to do but 'feel free to phone if you need some advice'?!?!?! I've to be seen again in 3wks time if nothing has changed any since then.

Now don't get me wrong, the midwife was lovely she delivered dd1) and the Dr was very nice but maybe I wasn't prepared to hear what I was told and was thinking would be sent home with flea in ear for being a silly pg woman and wasting their time.

sorry to prattle on and if anyone knows any of the medical terminology/explanations better than me feel free to jump in as its all a blur to me

VintageGardenia · 08/02/2008 17:20

dizzydixies you poor thing I got a terrible shock for you reading that. Having to just be at home waiting and monitoring for three weeks must be so frustrating and nervewracking for you. Presumably there is no way they can remove the clot safely for you - stupid question, I am sure you have gone into all of that with them.

I hope you have a supportive partner / husband who will bear as much of the burden of looking after your two children as possible, so that you really can rest as has been recommended and give your body as good a chance as you can to sort itself out.

but sending positive thoughts to you.

IlanaK · 08/02/2008 17:21

DIzzydixie - I am really sorry to hear your news. All I can say is to try to think positive as your baby is still well according to the scan. The worst may not happen.

ChaCha - the kinderhotels are great if you have young kids. Its all inclusive with everything laid on for kids (in door play areas, kids clubs etc). The one we went to before and the one we are going to this time are on lakes with little sandy beaches. Austria is a really friendly country and yummy food too. Short flight times and we pick hotels with short transfer times too.

As to spd - I had that badly last pregnancy and was getting pains early in this one. I decided not to wait to see a midwife as last time I was told pain is part of pregnancy and just to put up with it (this was when I could barely walk). So I went straight to an osteopth this time which made a big difference.

VintageGardenia · 08/02/2008 17:25

libbyssister I have also had very bad headaches / eyeaches this week. I tried Migrastick (herbally roll-on thing for your temples) until someone on here said you shouldn't use essential oils. Alternative is paracetamol which is ok to take (although it feels funny to take anything).

Anyway by lunchtime today the cloud of headache seemed to be receding, and thank goodness now I feel normalish - just in time for the weekend, usefully - but I sympathise with you. Maybe you might feel a ittle better after a very gentle massage of the temples / head, if you have someone you could persuade to do it?

dizzydixies · 08/02/2008 17:30

vintagegardenia thank you but am afraid there is only one way out for it and nevermind fact it threatens baby not having periods for 9months is one of the perks of sodding pregnancy. dh is fabulous and the girls adore him. we work opposite shifts normally so he is as efficient at all things usually associated with mums - tis just a shame he is a polis and they are twats (excuse language) when comes to welfare issues! luckily I have an excellent boss which helps

ilanak thanks too. have decided to drag myself out of misery - some hope with 2lo barging about place! and have a nosey at these hotels you speak of. Am not allowed to fly for rest of pg but knowing of somewhere for future holidays might cheer me up - nothing I like more than living in an organising dream like state!!

Lcy · 08/02/2008 17:58

dizzydixies - so sorry to hear your news. I can't imagine how you feel. I wish i could say i am shocked at how you were treated at the hospital but unfortunately i received the same treatment when i had a mc and when i bled with this pregnancy. They really have no idea about psychological and emotional support. This is your baby - how dare they talk about trying again at the moment . Please keep talking to us if it helps and I hope you can get some emotional support from friends and family. I think the miscarriage association are great if you need a chat - and i am sure they would understand how worried / upset you are. I think a bit of distraction works too. I will be thinking about you lots xxx

ChaCha · 08/02/2008 18:24

Dizzy - I wanted to say that i'm sorry about what you are going through/have been through. Sorry for being ignorant, but why do they have to make you wait for 3 whole weeks? Are you able to see anyone (private maybe) before that? Think positive thoughts (i know, easier said than done) and try to rest (again, not easy with 2 kids already) but you really must and can you take some time off work or is it maybe better to keep going? Thinking of you and will be logging in often to see how you are [hugs]

Ilana - Sounds perfect, will have to have a browse during quiet time. I was seeing my DH's osteopath before this PG but didn't think of going back, i'm wondering if i should make an appointment with DH next week now - it's helping you? M/W did tell me to contact her if it gets bad but is good idea to sort it before it gets to that stage.

Head massage sounds lovely. I have cajoled DH into making me a curry and bringing home something nice to drink - wonder if i can push my luck, and wonder if children will sleep early tonight

Hope you all have lovely Friday nights. And those unwell/going through testing times - hope your feet will be up and relaxing!!! x

IlanaK · 08/02/2008 18:46

Yes, I did find it helped enormously. And the other thing that really helped was ditching the pushchair. My youngest is 3.5 and we still were using one a lot as I live in Central London and walk everywhere. The osteopath told me (and I already knew) it was making things worse. I haven't used it for a month now.

Website for those interested in the hotels I mentioned is www.kinderhotels.co.uk We went to the Sonnelino last year and are going to the Kinderhotel-Zurpost this time. Both have short transfers and both are near airports that you can fly to with ryan air for a penny if you book early enough. If anyone wants more info on them, I am happy to share, but probably better not to clog this list up. email me [email protected]

Anyone else feeling the baby moving about yet? I am sure that I am the last few days. Its not just wind either!

CaptainCaveman · 08/02/2008 20:18

((((dizzy)))) so sorry to hear whats going on at the moment. Praying that all is well for you and your precious lo.

We're also going on our hols in May - off to Florida!! Looooonnng flight but going with my parents too so extra people to look after ds whilst I rest on the plane (snigger, as if!).
Ilana - May 10th will be ds' 4th bday!!
Must get on to searching for insurance - my bank account usually provides me and the family with cover but I bet they won't cover pg!

dizzydixies · 08/02/2008 20:58

another famous member of the August 08 club

kirsty of location location location is pg again with her 2nd
her first was 11lb11 called Bay Atlas - as a mother of 11lb 1 that's certainly NOT to be sniffed at!

thank you all for kind thoughts, does it sound terrible if I say am trying to ignore what the told me and am fannying about on here giving advice to anyone asking questions about anything!???!

HazieAndBaby · 08/02/2008 21:53

Oh dizzy, I don't think it's terrible at all if you want to ignore what they told you. They don't sound like they were saying anything helpful anyway! As someone said earlier (sorry, can't remember who! ) babies can be much tougher and go through more than anyone would imagine - think what they go through to get here in the first place! I've heard of people who have also been through tough times during pregnancies and have gone on to have healthy babies. I think it's good that you're managing to stay positive, you sound like a really strong person. Thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be fine.

Does anyone know when SPD tends to start? I broke my coccyx when I was 15 and get twinges of pain every so often, but starting to feel it more now that the baby is growing. I'm just a bit worried that, with the weakness in my back already, I'll be heading for this! Don't know if I should call MW or just wait until my next appt which is in March.

xx

Lcy · 08/02/2008 22:15

Good plan dizzy - do whatever you need too xx

dizzydixies · 08/02/2008 22:55

hazie thanks, am ignoring everything apart from sitting with feet up eating entire packet of mini jaffa cakes - that was very definately recommended by the medical staff!

please don't wait for MW re your back - go and see an osteopath, they'll give you great advice re your pain and how to manage it as well as aligning everything for the birth

past my bedtime, thanks everyone feeling much better just for being on here - really wish I'd known about this throughout first two pregnancies!

TwilightSurfer · 09/02/2008 01:14

Dizzy here's a lady (screen name BbyBrownz) from back in 2003 on a Dr Spock discussion thread. The situation is similar to yours. She didn't post past week 24 but thought what she did post was enough to give you some hope.

Early Placenta Seperation
Her 24 Week Checkup

You have a wonderful chance of going to term with this pregnancy. Glad you're remaining positive. That's the best medicine.

FoghornLeghorn · 09/02/2008 08:06

Dizzy What a shock ! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you x

I have been poorly myself, came down with this V&D bug yesterday and the pains in my stomach were absolutely horrendous Feeling much better today, just a little weak from only eating half a hot crossed bun in the last 24+ hours.
I weighed myself this morning and I'm back down to what I was before pregnant, I've lost 4lb .

Also got 4d scan booked for 10th May

OP posts:
mum2go · 09/02/2008 08:08

hi there ladies

i,m due my 1st scan monday

Sunshinemummy · 09/02/2008 08:22

Hi all, just thought I would pop in to say hello.

Am normally on September thread, but after early scan due to panic on Thursday, it turns about baby is two weeks older than expected and due 28th August. Must say it's great knowing I'm almost through the first trimester.

Scan was wonderful, baby was somersaulting all over the place. Very reassuring. I have another scan plus nuchal fold in two weeks as am 38 (according to midwife I have an age reated risk of downs of 1-227!).

Have one DS, who is two in March. Haven't told him yet but can't wait for him to be a big brother.

dizzydixies · 09/02/2008 10:31

sunshinemummy thats lovely news, welcome to August board, although I'm technically July its a lovely place to be with great support.

mum2go looking forward to hearing about your scan, you must be excited with only a few days to wait now

TS thank you so much for that. I've had a look at it but her problem seems to be with her placenta and apparently mine isn't. Its membrane seperation above where the baby and placenta are - am sorry I can't explain it very well as I'm not too sure myself and everything I can find tells me nothing really. Haven't had a lot of bleeding today and lovely dh let me have lie in before his mammoth shift. Taking girls to soft play area, cop out on a sunny day I know but not in mood to chase them round the park. They have a party in the afternoon so hopefully they'll both be too pooped to put up the usual fight at bed time!!

hope you're all having a lovely sunny m/s free and energetic saturday

CaptainCaveman · 09/02/2008 15:04

Hi sunshinemummy and mum2go, hope you are doing ok and welcome to Aug thread!!

Just been to visit our friends and their 5 day old baby, ahhhh, so cute. Can't wait for august til ours arrive .

Played hockey, and won, this morning, now ds and I are off swimming. Phew. Need a lie down already. Somehow got to get out to buy some new clothes at some point.....eeek, nothing fits over my gut!

Buckets · 09/02/2008 15:45

I saw an osteopath on tv manipulating a premature baby in SCBU. He said everyone should see an osteopath regularly but esp women after they've had a baby as your body has been so squished about and you get into bad habits with all the relaxin hormone flowing.
We stayed at my folks' last night as DH is laminating our bedroom floor - looks fabulous. Anyone want a huge antique wool rug in turquoise/jade with chinese pattern? Free to collector (Southampton).
Have had quite a lazy day although have been battling with DS somewhat (MUCH lying down on pavements and floppy tantrums.) And dare I whisper it? Not feeling too nauseous today... Have not felt the compulsion to graze crap all day either, consequently my mouth feels a little fresher than usual too. Then again it's only 3.45 , it's usually worse in the evening.

RachAndFamousNot · 09/02/2008 16:01

Dizzy, you were so lovely after my post, have all fingers crossed for you. Thinking about you.
