Shazza - I am having this one at UCH. Last one was at St Mary's and I just can't face that place again. Not sure UCH is any better but we'll see.

My choice was St Mary's or Queen Charlotte's, I chose Queen Charlotte's. I went to UCH EPU as it is 5 minutes from where I worked. Staff I saw were very good and looked new and clean which is always reassuring.

I also went twice to the EPU at UCH. However, that is in the new building. Maternity is in a seperate and grotty looking building! They are moving to the new building, but not until after I have had this baby. Glad to hear you did not choose St Mary's. The came bottom of the list that was out recently about maternity services. They really are appalling.

I had a friend who went to St Mary's and had a bad time. I mean I know you hear bad stories about all hospitals but I've yet to hear a good one about St Mary's! I think it's just old and dirty and stuck in the dark ages a bit.

My nips have now officially started leaking, woke up in the night with a little wet patch on my nightie.
My new baby sling arrived in the post today, can't wait to try it out on friend's brand new baby when she's ready to travel. It is positively lesboid in woven rainbow stripes but DH will be forced to try it one day too.

TS: Congrats on 'Rowena', guess it's safe to say that you cannot tell the gender at a 12wk scan after all LOL.

I was there having DD in 2002. The midwife was trying to break my waters and couldn't. So she called for the doc. Anyway, in he walks and serioulsy this mans hands were bigger than shovels. But luckily the midwife said she would have another go. So I don't mind a male midwife just having a look at my bits, as long as he doesn't touch

Hi all popped down the road to my local Formes for some fabulous maternity wear, brandishing debit card.

Upon which the rather charming & very elegant French shop assistant started pulling down all sorts of gorgeous silky, stretchy, luxurious feeling stuff in black and cream and pinks etc etc you get the picture.

UPON WHICH I said I'm a 14, UPON WHICH she started re-racking the clothes clackety-clack as the largest size they stock is a 40. She said I would need a 42 to = a 14

UPON WHICH I left.

A maternity clothes shop without size 14. I mean, a normal shop without a 14 is bad enough but for Heaven's sake, have a heart. Be practical.

Upon which I repaired to Debenham's & bought maternity jeans (Red Herring) and a load of makeup.

Maternity jeans HIDEOUS but if if you pull your top down you can't see the big stretchy band thing around the top and (am I kidding myself?) they look ok.

There's some nice reasonable maternity/BF stuff here and apparently New Look have a maternity range although not sure how big they go.

I like the NCT lilac pyjamas, might go for them. New Look at not sure how big they go. I thought 14 was normalish, I mean obviously clownish on Victoria Beckham etc. Anyway on their website they say only in stores not online so I'll check in maybe next week.

These are the jeans I got, mmm, attractive.

I don't normally like Dorothy Perkins but, alors, needs must when the devil drives. They have a good few things.

Can anyone give a guide as to what to get, e.g. 3 bottoms, 6 tops, 4 bras, or whatever? I was thinking 4 bottoms as needs dicate:
jeans (slobbing)
black trousers (work / smart)
white trousers (sports day, birthdays, etc, plus in case I get invited to any spring garden parties)
cutoffs (not mini things but at/just below knee, as alt. to jeans)

but tops are WAY harder

New Look goes to an 18 I think, not sure about maternity range as they don't have it online. The NCT stuff is really nice but DH would slay me if I spend £35 + on PJs! Last time I found some front opening nighties in Peacocks (had catheter forever so couldn't wear PJs).

LoW I am objecting to spending ANYTHING really considering it's going to be only 4 or 5 months' wear. Though I'll probably be wearing it for months afterwards, come to think of it.

If it was winter think would be tempted by DP's hoodies and cashmere jumpers but can't spend the summer in his t-shirts.

I'm not spending more than £20 on anything that isn't going to be helpful for breastfeeding too. And don't forget it is going to be boiling so go for long stretchy vests or floaty tops. Peacocks are v cheap, go up to size 20 and do very maternity-esque tops.
I got some nice cropped Next trousers off Ebay, they only have elastic at the sides of the waistband.

LoW how come you had your catheter in for so long? Did you know you would in advance? Were you bedridden for ages?

New look goes right up to 18/20 in their maternity but they also have a larger size range you could just buy bigger tops

VG - topshop have maternity online too

for front opening problems I found a massive XXL or just XL shirt men's shirt from Matalan worked wonders
