OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Jaysthird · 05/03/2008 18:00

ok, here goes....

Saw my dreary wet blanket of a consultant today. Hes so 'vague' about

things. I think he was abit taken aback at my insistancy of no

induction and faltered a bit whan i asked where the hospital stood on

women refusing them. He dodged the question then went on to draw me

some diagrams (?) of the risk of leaving v the risk of induction. I

didnt feel like i was getting anywhere with him and almost felt like

he wasnt listening to me.

Anyway, i then remembered a trump card.... my due date was taken from

my own dates not from the dating scan....(theres only 4 days in it

and hospital policy is to take patients dates if there isless than a

week between it and the dating scan....) which basically meant my due

date may have been the 1 March, therefore putting me at only 4 days

over, rather than 8 with my dates......are you with me so far!!!

So i asked/told him that maybe my dates had been wrong and we should

go by the dating scan, therefore givng me more time to play with!!!

So he examined me and i am not 'favorable' at the mo, although he did

manage a membrane sweep, so thats two in two days....

So have come away from the appointment semitriumphant, i do have an

induction booked for the 13th, next Thursday but it has given me more

time to try au natural...also spoke to MW who has arranged for

another seep on Monday, which according to adjusted dates will now be

the 7th day over!

All in all a bit of a manipulative day!

Am going to have a vindaloo and some more 'hot' luvin tonight!

Princess, how was your appointment?

OOOOOOOO tyaca, you could be the next one to go, you sound ready!!!!!!

princessllama · 05/03/2008 18:56

cor, saw your message jay and thought wow it's a birth story, i am going to be the last. bad luck having such an annoying consultant but clever ploy re dates.
i had a scan because there was a worry over how much amniotic fluid there is and because it dropped last time too much. anyway, turns out worry over nothing as lots there, the baby seems to be doing well on my creme egg and vindaloo diet as now est at 8.3lbs and all fine. had the poky sweep again and now 1.5 to 2cm dilated and 'soft' cervix-all so graphic isn't it. have to go back on friday and sunday for baby heart rate monitoring but he seems ok for me to keep going as we are at mo. i was worrying about being in labour on wednesday-dh's big day of the year and he said 'i might turn my phone off in the delivery room'like he was being really considerate even saying it was a possibility . will have to reissue my threat of birthing pool and phone .
think had a show just now-but oh my god that means it could be a whole nother week. am watching in the night garden and eating a creme egg so i really have lost my mind already. (lo is already asleep!)
gingemumi how did the apt go?
love the new thread title for us 3 saddos. i hope we're not boring everyone.
tyaca- i always used to be the last to be picked for any sport-after the asthmatic and the fat kids, so i'm used to it a bit.

Jaysthird · 05/03/2008 19:21

So they didnt give you an induction date? Lucky you glad the baby is still 'bobbing' along in plenty of fluid, seems like a good weight. When is/was your due date again?

OOO a possible show? i had a bit of one this morning but i put it down to the sweep i had yesterday, i havnt had anything else since so not pinning hopes on it( hence why i havnt mentioned it!)

I am currently waiting on a hot Ceylon from our curry house... funny thing, they know why i keep ordering these curries, i reckon they are secretly hoping i never give birth, that way i can keep them in business!!

Sorry my message came outt he way it did, i wrote it in notepad and copied it accross, - for fear of losing it all, i didnt mean for it to be so 'spaced' out like that!

gingermumi · 05/03/2008 19:29

Princss and jay, don't envy you at all, hope things happen for you soon.

Well, saw consultant today, he thinks, pending tests, that ds has benign infantile myoclonus. This really means it's just a reflex twich that happens when he's asleep though it can be kind of epilepsy too. He has taken away a video we did of him having an 'episode' (couldn't play it on NHS computer - too basic!) and will get back to us. Has also referred ds for a brain trace to rule out any nasties. Even if the myoclonus is the epilepsy kind he will grow out of it. As for the jaundice, it looks like breast milk jaundice which, in some babies, can last for 12 weeks (didn't think it could last that long!). he had blood tests to check for liver function - bless him, what with vaccs yesterday and this today he hasn't had a good week!

Egg - hope babies are a bit better today, i'm sure the others are right - having one at nursery is bound to expose you all to extra germs. Perhaps if they build up immunity now you'll be spared in the future! Must be quite stressful for you though.

omy · 05/03/2008 19:47

Ooh I know that induction threat so well! good luck with holding them off!

The dummy and BF question..... - leila had a good night and was a sweetie all day - i fed her every time she looked even vaguely keen - but from about 4pm she gets grumpy and seems to forget how to breastfeed - she gets the breathing all wrong and chokes and gags and swallows air - then screams and cries for more boob - but doesn't really latch on properly and swallows air again etc etc. Yesterday this lasted 3 hours before she finally fell asleep exhausted. So today when the cycle started I bunged her in the sling and went for a walk which worked - then home and tried to feed her - she threw up half a boobs worth, then re-fed her with a bit of success (so she isn't starving), but then she started swallowing air again so I bunged her back in the sling and walked around the kitchen holding the dummy in - and she has now been sucking the dummy unaided and fallen half asleep for 30 mins! - so I call that success! I am just worried that the dummy will affect her breastfeeding...hmmmm wadaya think?

omy · 05/03/2008 19:49

ginger - sounds reassuring...sorry you have had such a worrying week.

alkar · 05/03/2008 20:10

Omy - I have been using a dummy and it doesn't seem to be affecting bf, my LO is 12 days older than yours but I started using it a week ago. Went to baby clinic today and he is now 11lb 1 and over the median line so he's obviously still feeding OK - even got a well-done from the health visitor because he's doing so well!

Ginger - Hopefully blood test will show that the bilirubin isn't too high - are they going to monitor it? Hope the video shows all is OK with DS.

Jaysthird- Well done for standing your ground at the hospital today, too many people believe doctors without question.

Princess - your show could be the start of things I had mine then my waters broke 6 hours later. Good luck to all of you still waiting x

ayrshirelolo · 05/03/2008 20:42

Hi all! Ginger, that sort of sounds like good news? Hope it's reassured you a bit anyway and that he has a good night tonight, all those medical tests must be exhausting for a wee person!
Jaysthird, way to go, girl! i love it when people tell consultants where to get off! hope it all happens for you au naturel soon my friend! You too princess (and you Tyaca... may you all go into labour in synch!!!)
Well health visitor here today, Alex is still a wee grubber, she's now 9lb so doing fine. I even admitted buying infacol and startring that, h/v said "good idea!" Cool! thought i might get a row!
Anyway, great drama in lolo house today is that washing machine is playing up.... sort of works but keeps stopping in the middle of programmes and then you have to re set it to rinse and spin or whatever. dh had a look at it but doesn't seem to know what's wrong .... why not? Is that not a boy's job? anyway, could end up expensive as i don't think we can live without a washing machine and local guy charges about 90 quid for a look, meantime lots of towels to mop up floor and it's taken all day to do one load, methinks a trip to Comet with credit card is in order.... watch this space!!
anyway friends, hope it's a good night for all, and remember ladies in waiting, curry and nookie, works every time!! lolo xx

CountTo10 · 05/03/2008 20:44

Omy - we're using a dummy here too and so far it's not affecting the bf just yet. We're using the ones by tomme tippe that are supposed to interfere less. He needs it to sleep sometimes and also to help him with his wind etc.

So DS1 and his ear are a lot better, the antibiotics have obviously kicked in very quickly which is good. DS2 appears to be clearing his mucus so hoping he's over his cold. Egg - it's totally not related to bf that the babies are getting cold cause I am and he's got one - it's from ds1 - kids, they're all germ carriers!!!

Went to the health visitor today and ds2 weighs 10lb 10oz so he's put on a whole 3lb now at 5wks bless him!! Had a chat with the hv cause ds2 has been really unsettled, especially at night. He's being sick ages after a feed or just grunting a lot, screaming out of the blue, not being able to poo the list goes on (!!) and it appears that he's probably got reflux. Ds1 had it so I'm a bit gutted cause it was a nightmare. Could spell the end of bf if we have to give him gaviscon cause it's a pain trying to feed. Anyone had one with relfux and maintained bf?? I'm gonna be really sad to give up but will have to just get on with it. I wonder if there's something about my genes to produce two children with reflux??!!

Anyway, hope everyone's well and those still waiting to pop, thinking of you and keeping everything crossed for you - except my legs!!!

rozzyraspberry · 05/03/2008 20:52

Oh princess, tyaca and jaysthird - I really hoped there would be some baby news today - sounds as if you're all progressing with shows and things though so fingers crossedxx

Ginger-consultants opinion sounds positive - must be a bit of a relief - hopefully he'll get back to you again soon.

Egg - DS1 was bottlefed and never had any colds or anything when he was tiny. DS2 was bf and was forever getting colds - like everyone said babies are exposed to lots more germs when they have older siblings.

Hi to everyone else - I have read all the posts but haven't time right now to respond to everyone. All well here - I haven't found ds3 to be the easiest of babies during the day but he's been far far better the last few days so I'm hopeful that the worst is past. He's still a star at night which makes things far more manageable.

Take care all

princessllama · 05/03/2008 22:47

counto10 i managed to feed dd til 3 months with bad reflux but had to supplement, i think the stress of the gaviscon etc got to me and ended up with no milk. yes, there is a genetic link with reflux and also worse with boys. 40% of babies with reflux have a lactose intolerance. dd was like this and when i didn't have dairy (or wheat in her case) things improved alot. also finally persuaded drs to prescribe better meds than gaviscon-brain fade at moment but can go and look in cupboard where i have horded some just in case, if you want info. gaviscon just constipated lo which made life 10 x worse. if you can get hold of carobel i found that works great, its a corn starch thickening agent and cow and gate make it, we used to put a small amount in lo's bottle, obviously that meant expressing some milk first. i think if i had been stricter with cutting out dairy and wheat from earlier and had the good meds i might have been able to continue feeding. once we were on the mega expensive hypo allergenic formula Neocate things were way way way better-took me filming a feed with lo to persuade drs to take notice finally!
there's a fab help website run by mothers of reflux babies on babycentre.com. they really helped me.
am dreading being in same boat as you, am really keen to keep feeding this time but obviously there is always going to be a point at which it isn't worth the trauma-i had scratches all over my chest from lo struggling and getting upset! good luck and keep me posted
TYACA-have you deserted me and jay? haven't heard anything from you since this am-good luck and trying not to feel jealous if that's the case

tyaca · 06/03/2008 00:03

ginger - sounds like a tough day, but a positive one nonetheless. sure further assements will all come out fine - hopefully sooner rather than later.

jaysthird - every thread i find myself drawn to on MN at the moment has you on it partic liked the "silent labour" one. wd standing your ground for the moment and your cunning reworking of due date. i've had moments of wondering whether its poss to be a whole calandar month out. if you and baby both doing fine for the moment, then go with your gut.

princess, yes still here... lol at your labour messing up DH's work and the mobile phone during labour comment. glad your sweep brought back positive news - you sound like you're at about the same stage as me in terms of ripeness. now if i could just have ONE contraction, i'd feel like i was going in the right direction.

DH reckons that baby knows there's no insane amounts of sugar once she makes an arrival and is recommending i stop consuming so much sweet shit and perhaps pop a creme egg in my knickers in a reworking of the old donkey/carrot trick.

Jaysthird · 06/03/2008 06:11

Tyaca, i think i was wishful thinking re the 'silent labor' thread!!!! Its funny, the past few weeks i have found myself posting more and more, here there and everywhere...i normally sit on the sidelines, dont tend to 'play ball' much!
Had to laugh at your DH recommendation of the creme egg in your knickers.....The MW and docs would wonder what/who they had in their delivery suite should you have gone in and not removed it!!
countTo10, my DS also had reflux. Like Princess i managed about 3 months of BF but it did get too much for me, i had other meds also, in fact went through a whole range of things. He wasnt/isnt lactose intolerant though, so i think maybe i didnt have it too bad, but it was a nightmare with the BF. Saying that a friend of mine worked through it and BF for about 6/7 months...guess it depends on how you can cope with it all. Good luck! - princess, i am still here, as you can tell. Havnt deserted you all , yet!

Rozzy - sorry the LO isnt behaving in the day, but at least you have some good nights! It is alwasy a bit easier in the day if you have managed some sleep, sounds like you are doing a stirling job!

Aryshirelolo, go fo rthe new washing machine, you CAN NOT be without one at this stage of the game!! Ours is like 7 years old, i keep saying to DH its going to go at a crucial time, he just pats it and talks to it - 'your not going to give up on us are you, you will be ok for another 10 years!!' pah,the minute it makes conking out noises, its getting scrapped!!!!

Well i had the three 'c's' last night, curry, clarysage bath and copulation!!! and as a result, nothing! what more can you so huh!

off to watch birthing stories on discovery before the tykes get up...hv a good day all, and keep us updated!!!!

Jaysthird · 06/03/2008 06:12

grrrr hate it when that happens!!

Egg · 06/03/2008 10:45

Any babies????

No post from tyaca OR princess . Jay, you could be the last . Or they might just still be in bed or something .

Ginger glad you got some answers from the doc and am glad the jaundice is nothing to worry about (12 weeks though!). If you don't mind me asking what are the symptoms of the possible epilepsy? Just that DS2 judders a lot and my doula did say to mention it to doc next week at our "8-week" check (actually 9 weeks). His legs often shake as though he is cold when it is near-on impossible he is cold, jaw does it too. I am sure DS1 did the same though so am not that worried as DS1 grew out of it and no-one ever seemed concerned about it. DD doesn't do it at all though.

So, we need a new ante natal thread quickly so we can get a link to it before it is too late. Shall I do it???? (Never done one before ).

Egg · 06/03/2008 10:48

Right girls, I did it .

here you go...

Egg · 06/03/2008 11:15

Egg wonders if she should just post 6 times and get this over with . Where are you all??? I WANT TO CHAT. Babies are about to wake so my talking time is nearly over .

Oooh I fed them both at same time for first time this morning (it was getting late and both needed feeding before I took DS1 to nursery). It went well except they both took a bit less than normal, am going to try again at next feed, which is due shortly. It could save me AAAAAAGES. Only time I cant do it though is at night as don't want to wake anyone up if they are trying to sleep longer as need to encourage loooong sleeps at night.

Ah well, maybe someone will come and talk to me soon........

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 06/03/2008 11:30

well done egg!!!! congrats on feeding bot babies at the same time!!!!

its far to quiet on here today

Jaysthird · 06/03/2008 11:31
