lailasmum · 02/03/2008 20:59

Hi everyone. And congratulations to all recent arrivals. My little boy finally made an appearance into the world on friday so he is a leap year baby, 15days late and weighing 7lb 10oz. We have called him Toben Spencer.

I ended up scrapping my home birth and delivering in hospital after my blood pressure went really high and there were no signs of anything kicking off being induced (had my waters broken) at about 9pm on friday evening he was then delivered at 10:47pm the same evening so it was pretty quick once it got going.

I have updated the list.

lailasmum - WOW leap year baby, thats so cool. DH kept asking me to to give birth that day ( after two others you'd think he would know that its not an 'on demand' kinda thing!)

Sorry you didn't get your home-birth, but at least you do get a new baby son!

Big congrats to you and yours!

tyaca · 02/03/2008 22:41

congrats lailasmum and well done on your patience! glad all went well, tho' sorry you couldnt have your homebirth. lovely name, what's the origin? am v jealous of his birthdate

we've missed loads of "wouldnt this be a good date" dates. ALL of half term, me and DH's getting-together anniversary (27/02), 29/02 of course, St David's Day (am not Welsh, but lived there for years and where me and DH first met and shacked up) and now Mothersday. Looking through the calander, there's nothing exciting now til April's Fool...

its true Gingermumi, we've stretched February to the maximum...

Only 72 posts left on this thread, no pressue princess and jays.... i fear we may have to lurke in the postnatal area if we dont get a move on.

Sweep on Tues, then consultant on Thurs if no news. I've kind of resigned myself to nothing happening without before then. This helps me feel a bit calmer. Also, DH dug out an ace TV box set which has sped today up no end. Going to resign myself to finishing the series tomo ... then Tues and sweep! in 36hours!

Hi everyone.

Will post properly when I have a chance: Had a little girl, Katherine Natalia (Katie) on Wednesday 27 February by c-section following failure to dilate - got no further than 2 cm.

Home today and DH left Lansinoh in hospital -so mum will have to get me some tomorrow. Off to get some rest before she wants feeding.

tyaca · 02/03/2008 23:18

hey hey lovemymum!! congrats... long time no hear from. hope you get looked after at home (no favours for any friends!) and can enjoy time with your new baby girl. look forward to hearing more from you when you've had the chance to R&R.

why cant i have a nice spontaneous flippin labor, god it makes me cross!!!!

Congrats Lovemymum, hope you are settling in with your new arrival! Dont forget to fill us in on all the gory details!!

Is there only three of us left then, Princessare, Tyaca and moi? Theres a heap of ladies that havnt posted ( going from the list we have on here) i hope all has gone well for them!

I really feel like this baby just doesnt want to come. None of my labors have really started off in a 'traditional' sense, i was hoping this one may have done, seeing as though its my last!

Plan for me is, consultant on Wednesday, with a sweep... then if nothing else happens and induction date to be discussed..or not!!!!

Right back off to see if i can sleep a bit before monster son wakes up...!

oooooooooooooooooh two more babies! Welcome to Toben and Katherine (that's DD's middle name ) and very exciting to have a 29 Feb baby for lailasmum. Congrats to you and to LOVEMYMUM .

So, to you three still "actively" waiting (princess, tyaca and jaysthird), really really good luck, I hope it does happen for you all very soon.

Feeling cack today as had some red wine last night which clearly makes me feel worse than beer or champers. Plus DS1 woke up at 6:15am.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 03/03/2008 08:01

Congrats to lovemy mum and Lailas- both have gorge names!!!

Good luck to the last three waiting- and to anyone else on the list who maybe lurking but not brave enough to post!!!!!

Going to hava an ebay listing day and get rid of some clutter!!!1

Jaysthird · 03/03/2008 08:12

LOL i was that cross this morning at 4.00, i posted three times...oppppps!

Morning all

princessllama · 03/03/2008 09:07

congratulations lovemymum. well done, bummer about the dilation after all the effort. glad you're home safe now. and as tyaca says no favours to anyone, and don't let her come and visit with her offspring til you're ready!!
nothing happening here yet either still so have apt with consultant tomorrow see what they say. think am getting immune to curry now, hardly bothers me.
going to stride out with the pushchair now see if that helps

Lucyand2 · 03/03/2008 09:38

Congrats to all the new arrivals and happy belated mothers day to everyone!
I can't believe we're in march now as febuary felt so far away, best of luck to all of you still waiting. Hopefully things will happen soon for you!

I've started getting the parenting advice already from random strangers (and my Mum who had previously learnt not to!)
Apparently I'm making a rod for my own back by not putting DD2 to bed at the same time as DD1 then leaving her to cry! She's a newborn baby FGS, why would I leave her to cry? As for what people think of co-sleeping...I haven't dared tell my HV as she kept wittering on about putting baby to sleep on her back in her moses basket by the bed.
Has anyone else been getting gems of unwanted advice like this?

morningglory · 03/03/2008 09:43

Congratulations on all the new arrivals since i last checked...quite a few, and one leap year baby!

I've been out of commission due to a sprained ankle. DS1 was pulling me forcefully while I was resisting going into school during pick-up. We were on a steep hill and he was about to have me run into a crawling toddler, so I pulled forcefully away from DS1 to avoid stepping on the toddler, and basically it set me on a trajectory (like a discus). Unfortunately, I had baby in a sling and was wearing heeled boots, so I was falling face front. In order to cushion baby, I was doing everything possible to prevent falling with the strongest impact on the baby. Did manage that (baby only got a fright), but I also twisted my ankle very badly. DS2 was very sorry (didn't yell at him because he looked so miserable), but I've been useless and can't put any weight on the left foot. I don't think that I'll be able to walk for at least a week, which makes "running" after a 4 year old and taking care of a baby a bit of a challenge. Thank goodness my mother arrives tomorrow! Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to be able to pick her up from the airport at 6-30 am with baby and hobbling around.

Fingers crossed that the end is truly near for the rest of the list!

lailasmum · 03/03/2008 10:01

Tyaca-You asked about the origin of Toben. We have come across it a few times often spelt Tobin and its a variation of tobiah/tobias. Think its hebrew originally but seems to crop up in a few different backgrounds. We just really liked it but not particularly for any meaning.

wotsits · 03/03/2008 10:10

poor you, morningglory! Hope your ankle heals soon, and that your mother can take over the running around after DS1.
Today's DH first day back at work after paternity leave, and thank god my sister is here to help for another 2 weeks. I've had her tidying up and hoovering because it's also the first HV visit today - I hope she's nice. If she isn't no doubt I'll be back on here to have a moan...
Sending 'labouring' vibes to the last ones on the list - good luck!

Egg · 03/03/2008 10:28

Bloody hell MG, v scary. I always used to worry about just walking normally with DS1 in sling when he was little in case I tripped. Not so scared this time as only have a baby in the sling when pushing pushchair so it serves as a good zimmer frame. Thank god DS2 is ok but crap for you. Can you order a cab for your mum? Might be pricey but better than you trying to drive with a dodgy foot, and easier also than trying to get there at that time in the morning with two DCs.

Lucy I got loads of those "rod for your own back" comments last time as I never left DS1 to cry for more than a minute or two. Must admit I do leave the babies to cry now, but only because i have no choice as can't deal with all three DCs at same time. Don't put them to bed at same time as DS1 though, and they spend far too long in bouncy chairs than recommended (am trying to cut it down now).

The only bit of advice I do wish I had listened to last time is to not always put the baby into the cot / moses basket asleep and NOT to always feed to sleep. I went through six months of hell with DS1 and his horrendous sleeping habits as he had no idea how to get to sleep. I used to feed him to sleep all the time, and if he was not due a feed before a nap I would still have to give him a minute or two on the breast just to get him to nod off. Was a very hard habit to break and very emotionally hideous!

alkar · 03/03/2008 10:51

Got 2 days of just me and DS my mum had been taking afternoons off and taking us out so might get a little bored being stuck inside. Its started raining here so don't much fancy a walk! Anyone who has had a section - when can you drive again and do you need to see a doctor first? I am 4.5 weeks post section and wnt to drive but heard different times you have to wait so I'm not sure????

Big congratulations to lovemymum, ruva, lailasmum and mitfordsisters

Hope your ankle starts to feel ok again soon morningglory.

Tyaca - good luck for tomorrow and hope things start to happen soon for all of you still waiting.

Tallulah1978 · 03/03/2008 13:36

Hi - mega-quick post!

We welcomed Elijah William into the world on Thursday 28th at 00:44 after a 48 hour labour, weighing in at 6lb4. We were both discharged later the same day but ended up back in hospital on Friday afternoon after midwife visit as she suspected Elijah's blood sugar was low and he was very dehydrated and had lost 10% of his bodyweight in the first 24 hrs. Had quite a traumatic time but after some intensive breastfeeding in hospital and IV fluids he is now well and we are happy and at home enjoying our first quiet day.

Will do full birth story and add pictures of my beautiful little man soon. I am so overwhelmed and so in love and cannot believe the strength of feelings I have for my son.

Hang in there Tyaca - soon enough.......

xxx

Egg · 03/03/2008 14:24

Woooohoo well done tallulah what a lovely name it goes nicely with my DCs I think, perhaps I need to have another baby . Scary time for you but glad little Elijah is well and back home.

Really had better get off MN, have been on all day (if you search under my name for today there must be about 3,000 posts ).

tallulah - really nice to hear from you and congrats on your new arrival. must have been a v scary couple of days, i dont envy you the tough bit and hope all goes well from here onwards. sounds like you head over heels now tho'

jaysthird - you 4am email really made me smile. i woke up this morning thinking that the later i get the less likely i am to be able to go to the mid-wife unit at my hospital. put me in a foul mood. i reckon we're just providing v hospital envrinoments .

just had an impressive amount of sleep (v sorry to all the new mums, probably v unwanted info)... 20 hours til my sweep...

more babes! congratulations all! nice to have a leap yearer as well

we're keeping a log of feeds, trying to keep track of the cup feeding vs breastfeeding. bf-ing is such a rollacoaster. yesterday was carnage, she wanted to eat all day but would not settle on the breast so had loads of formula instead. then today she is loving bf-ing, done loads and without ruining my nipples for once. I never thought bf was going to be quite this hard. must cry about it at least once a day! but today is a good day so wont dwell.

hv came this morning and can talk for England. good news is that LO is gaining weight still so must be doing something right. back up to 8.8lbs

its snowing here - another afternoon in the house for us I think!

sympathies to all those still waiting - hope it happens for you all soon x
