'ere we go, guys!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
violeta · 04/02/2008 11:09

Hey, maternity leave is great huh?! First day today, and boy do I feel like a woman of leisure. But, it does make things more real (if that's possible considering size of bump!)and I also have to admit to feeling just a bit scared... M/w on Fri seemed also to think that bub may be op, which also doesn't fill me with confidence. Hence more sitting up straight and no slouching!

I'm pleased incidentally that we kept the same thread otherwise I'm sure it'd have been us late-Feb hatchers flailing around in the echoey empty space of the Feb thread!

Congrats to all new arrivals! Alkar, countto10, expectingkat - all fantastic news and looking forward to seeing photos soon!

My due date buddies - wotsits and morningglory: morningglory - good luck for today; will look out for news later. wotsits: hope you manage to get your BP down.

Have a good day everyone - more babies by sundown please!

leesmum · 04/02/2008 11:13

hi violeta we crossed posts, for you and anyone else who's baby was op, mine was and turned during labour, try not to worry it didn't hurt any more or less than my first labour from what i can remember x

Egg · 04/02/2008 11:31

leesmum, I called DS2 something unthinkable under my breath the other night when he wouldn't sleep and I was shedding a few tears. I only ever have any tears at night, cos all you want to do is get back into the warm bed (or sleeping bag on the floor for me ).

DS1 is really doing well, so much better than I expected he would cope with the arrival of two babies. He is definitely a bit insecure, and asks for more cuddles that I make sure I never refuse, even if I am cuddling him between my knees or just putting an arm round him while feeding a baby. He is very very attached to his Blankie at the mo as well and wants it all the time when in the house (used to only be at sleeptimes). But he loves the babies and always wants to see them when get gets up.

Have made the appt to register the births on Thursday morning, and then my mum is coming back for a night on Thursday afternoon too , so something to look forward to.

Lolo and Sarah, "any change?????" (hehehe, sorry, had to ask!).

Violeta I can't remember, is op the same as back to back? Hope the lo turns for you .

Right, off to package up my baby heartbeat listening thingy that I have just sold to a lucky MNer . A bargain at £10 when I paid £30 and it has hardly been used.

omy · 04/02/2008 11:44

Hi all I hope you don't mind me gatecrashing your tribe! I only just found this website and I am due on Wednesday! It is very reassuring to hear everyone's stories and news. I am lazing around while DH is busy building a room for the baby next door. It is weird to not be helping but I would just get in the way. Last night I thought labour was starting and it really freaked me out - but it was a false alarm. It has focused me better though as until now I haven't really been able to accept the reality of what is about to happen! What is really annoying is that I have just caught a cold after being disgustingly healthy all pregnancy. There goes my fabulous breathing! Looking forward to hearing good news from those popping today! Good luck!

Egg · 04/02/2008 11:49

Hello omy and welcome! Looks like you found us just in time. I often wonder how on earth anyone joining now keeps up with who is who etc as I really struggle and have been on this thread since end of May . Maybe I am just a bit slow .

Omy, is your DH actually BUILDING the room? My DH put a cot together but that was all...

omy · 04/02/2008 11:53

Hi Egg! I have worked out that you have new twins and a little son! Well done you and still time to type! DH IS building a room - he is making a small baby room in the corner of our big living room which we will then change into our bedroom - and our present bedroom will become the (small) living room! Amazing ingenuity is needed to fit 3 kids and 2 cats into a London flat!

violeta · 04/02/2008 11:54

Welcome omy!

Egg - yep back to back. I'm not 100% sure actually because I'm sure it's her bum going back and forth sometimes but I've been doing the exercises anyway. Thanks leesmum - I heard that something like 60% of babies change from back to back during labour so I won't get too down about it just yet!

omy · 04/02/2008 11:59

Hi Violeta! What exercises? Does back to back mean that the baby is facing your back as it comes out? sorry to be so ignorant - I haven't had time to read any books this pregnancy! (work ugh!)

Egg · 04/02/2008 11:59

Omy that is very ingenious! My friend did exactly the same with a one-bed flat, building a little section in the corner of the living room as the baby's room.

So you already have two children? You will have to add yourself to the list (will paste it below if I can find it!).

I do indeed have the three, DS1 is at nursery today so it is so peaceful here compared to when he is around. Apparently there is a D&V bug striking people down at nursery, I did think of not taking him in but there is always something and I will just have to cross everything that he, and we, don't catch it!

omy · 04/02/2008 12:03

Cross fingers he doesn't catch that bug! Just what you don't need.

Jo9977 · 04/02/2008 12:25

Welcome omy!

All the best to everyone who is having stuff done today...will be thinking of you all! Looking forward to lots of news and I promise I won't be too

Jo9977 · 04/02/2008 12:25

PK, you ok? You're very quiet...

violeta · 04/02/2008 12:32

Hi omy!

When a baby is back to back, he/she faces your tummy (so face up, rather than face down) and the m/w can feel all of the limbs on top rather than the bum.

There's a useful site here with exercises, etc:
www.homebirth.org.uk/ofp.htm

Bessie123 · 04/02/2008 12:41

Hi all. Just checking in, so I can find the thread easily later on. I have spent all morning reading up on what I've missed. Big congrats to all the new mums. xx

widgetsmummy · 04/02/2008 13:55

Congrats ExpectingKat - was thinking about you this morning!

Good luck mana - must be nice knowing when things will happen!

Thought my waters might be going a little this morning but on reflection think it was stress incontinence from sitting cross legged on the floor The flush of excitement took a little while to get over - darn it!

Oh well - the first lady from our NCT class is in labour so at least something is happening for one of us - we're due next, whatever that may mean!

Will check for more baby news later!

rozzyraspberry · 04/02/2008 14:04

Hi all. Welcome omy.

Goodluck to those of you going into labour/being induced/having c sections today.

I'm afraid I'm having to resort to cbeebies for half an hour as the boys only seem to want to play with me today - puzzles and games which usually mean I have to sit on the floor and it's just too damn uncomfortable today. I'll probably take them outside on their trampoline later then try to persuade them to play with their cars or lego or something.

Leesmum/Egg - I remember one particular evening when ds2 was really unsettled and wouldn't stop crying. I was crying and telling him to shut up. Everyone goes through hard times and it is always worse when you're tired.

Am now 39 +2 which is when ds2 made an appearance. This one too comfy - don't blame him - it's absolutely freezing here!!

tyaca · 04/02/2008 14:17

ahhhh.... feck, for the second time in a row, i missed the labour workshop at the hospital. first time i'd had a bad night and overslept. last night i was asleep at a reasonable hour, woke up feeling fresh and lively and promptly rolled over and fell back to sleep. DH will not be impressed ... am going to swot up on net about labour instead (and by that, i mean proper research) not just MN posting.

Welcome omy - sounds like impressive space management. I am freaking slightly about having a baby in our small 2-bed flat, so fair play to you. people keep offering/giving us stuff, which is v nice of them, but i am having to be so so firm about saying not to as we do not have the room for anything that's not essential.

just pottered round shops and bemoaned to self lack of own income. splashed out and finally bought raspberry leaf tablets. stood for a full quarter of an hour in front of sterilising and bottle stuff and realised i have absoulutley no idea what i'm doing. at all. ho hum.

yes, pk has been quiet. cyber bumped into her at 4am on saturday night when we both couldnt sleep - she seemed fine if restless... she's due in 5/6 days tho, so who knows?

finally, someone is going in to have their baby today or am i imagining that? sorry, brain to mush. good luck! that same person's DH had organised loads of meetings for tomo???? maybe i am just rambling.... hope all goes well. steal your DH's phone and lock him in the house - or handcuff him to your feeding pillow// small plastic jug.

right... i have been awake for three hours now and not sure how i'm going to make it another 20 min without a kip. DH has got into the habit of ringing from work and asking me what i'm doing// have been doing... its v v annoying. so my answers now are that me and the little one have had some growing time. she must grow a bit quicker if i;m snoozing, right?

OP posts:
omy · 04/02/2008 14:55

Hi Tyaca, I am ashamed to say I haven't done any birth prep classes - though I have been going to preggie yoga. Re people giving you stuff...We now have 2 baby baths, 3 car seats and 3 huge suitcase loads of 3-6 months baby girl clothes!!! I just said yes to everyone as I was trying to save money! Now I have to store it all and give it back in 6 months pretending I used it all! Am I mad or what!?

Thanks Violetta - I just found out all about occipito-anterior and occipito-posterior positioning. Very interesting! So I should lean forwards and not backwards from now on!

Joosey you ok? i am a day late and soo fed up!!!!

Pk616 · 04/02/2008 15:30

HELLO LADIES
Oh it's lovely to be missed! It's cheered me up!
I have been entertaining the MIL this morning. The woman turned up at 7:50 this morning! What the devil was she thinking? It's odd, but I'm more annoyed that she deprived me of MN this morning than her early arrival or her forcing me to walk to the supermarket and then forcing me to carry her shopping home saying "Well I can't carry it dear, I'm riddled with arthritis!"
I now feel very very behind on all that has gone on (I've read all the posts but part of how I remember is by replying to everyone and there is just too much to reply to when you haven't posted in about 3 days!)
Now let me think
Kat - CONGRATULATIONS
mana - GOOD LUCK
well it seems my brain dried up as quickly as the chocolate vanished!

Pk616 · 04/02/2008 15:31

Ooh and WELCOME to omy
