Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OneHandedTypist · 29/02/2008 16:54

Guess I'm lucky, none of my babies were very sicky, esp. not ds4. Bibs will wait until we start solids.
Cant blieve u gals plannin g on hols. I hate hols w/ my brood. Days of packing, squabbles and stubborn refusal 2 help or even cooperate when we get there. I could never go on hol w/ them again quite happily.

Egg · 29/02/2008 16:56

Ah but DS1 has nobody to argue with yet! And we are going when DTs are 5 months so no hassle with solids.

Can't believe you dont need bibs!!!!!!!!! ooooooooooh. Actually, I never really used them with DS1 unless I was giving him a bottle. I just used muslins.

Both babies are crying and I am PLEASED as they slept so much earlier I was worried they would be awake all night.

OneHandedTypist · 29/02/2008 17:03

congrats 2 k27, btw!

ds1 used 2 overfeed in evenings, but that was a soaking when it came back up, so bib/muslins completely inadequate. Rest only sick a little, not worth carrying an extra muslin/bib. Funny how they're all different. This one is very clingy, has had to be held for every nap in last few days. I got his astrological chart today, really interesting, heavy on the Aquarius stuff. Predicted to be more cerebral and practical than anything else, which fits with his Chinese Zodiac character, funny enough (yes, I know I'm sad to give anhy of this stuff the time of day).

Friend also gave me a load of newborn-size disp nappies yesterday... they don't half leak! Completely inadquate for my little lad's wees. Cloth so much better for us. Will use the disps anyway, part-time, as having rash problems.

Egg · 29/02/2008 17:07

Gosh I missed K27's post as it arrived whilst I was typing mine. Congrats on Noah Jack's safe arrival . DS2 was helped out with the ventouse, I was just glad he was out, how did you feel about the forceps?

Have not had leaking nappies lately with DTs (disposables), but did have with the first size we were using (preemie ones up to 6lbs). But I do change them every time I feed them, including at night, or else they do leak.

DS1 throwing playdoh across the floor. Think I had better go .

OneHandedTypist · 29/02/2008 17:17

DS soaked the size 1 disp between 3am and 8am this morning, that's hardly 'overnight' is it? My cloth bundles have def. lasted better.
Aack... filling nappy on my arm as I speak. That said about wee leaks in disps, the disps are a bit better at containing the yellow stuff...

Egg · 29/02/2008 17:20

Hmm, both DTs usually have a five ish hour stint in one nappy each night, and DD had 7.5hrs last night and no leaks! Maybe your DS4 is drinking more?? Or maybe he points his willy out of the side . My DS1 always had leaky wee nappies at night. I found only ones that worked once he was a few months old (and still now) were Huggies Superdry.

Lucyand2 · 29/02/2008 17:50

Just wondering what cloth nappies everyones using - my kissaluvs seem to leak quite quickly and as for my bimble
My diddys seem to be doing well though!

Congrats to violeta and k27 and everyone else I've missed!

bovrilsarnies · 29/02/2008 17:50

Hello all,

Sorry I haven't been on sooner with an update ........... but I have been kept busy with a beautiful baby girl!!

Seren Fenella was born at 10.37 am on Saturday the 23rd Feb.

Didn't all go quite to plan tho'....

I woke up Friday morning at about 5am with contractions - very mild but definitely contractions, then my waters started to trickle (I thought it was them breaking) at about 7am. Called the hospital and they asked me to come in to get checked out - so after a cuppa and finishing packing my hospital bag (just in case they kept me there) we attempted to leave the house - but every time I moved another gush of waters would come - so I'd have to go back to the loo to replace the maternity pad for a dry one.

Finally we were on our way to the hospital, and lo and behold - half way there my waters definitely went in a very sudden, very full on, absolutely no mistaking it, car seat is never gonna be the same again FLOOD!

Good news was that they were very clear!

got to the hospital and cheerfully got checked out and was sent home again.

Contractions were regular but no bother all day - but really started to hot up in the evening fluctuating between 4 and 10 mins apart - but painful enough for me to not be able to be sit down when they came! had to be pacing around and breathing deeply!

When they were about 5 mins apart and bloody well hurt, I called the hospital and said we were coming in. Got there at about 2am and was examined, I was 4cm dilated, so was taken through to a delivery room. I asked if the pool was free, and it was (yay!) so was moved to that room and they started filling the pool. The water really seemed to help! Especially teamed with gas and air!!

Labour progressed well and I got to 10cms in 3 hrs 40 mins!! But then after another 4 hrs (my contractions became further apart and only lasted about 30 secs each) she still haven?t arrived.
So a Doctor came to examine me and discovered that the baby was transverse.

He suggested trying forceps to turn her and a drip to bring my contractions back on, which we went ahead with ? he turned her fine ? but after 3 attempts then to push her out ? she didn?t budge at all.

So ? it was then decided there was no other alternative than a C section, which I have to say was not as traumatic as I imagined it would be.

So - 7 hr 40 min labour, plus failed forceps multiplied by C section equals beautifull baby girl weighing in at 9lb 3oz.

Another baby girl!

Congrats bovril. What did DH say about the car seat? Before DS1 was born my DH bought waterproof covers for our car seats just in case! But the car was brand new back then mind you...

tyaca · 29/02/2008 18:32

oh hurrah! two more babies. ty for the updates K27 and Bovril... such lovely names too.

K27 - am a v big fan of noah especially - if we were having a boy i would be petitioning for it (its a good job we arent, cause i wouldnt get my way ) ... 11 days late! wow, a drawn out ending to a tough preg... and puts me and my 5 days late moaning to shame. hope you are having a nice time at home with your new baby.

lol at the wet car seat bovril - we have been assuming it'll be best to get a cab into hospital as central london parking (even at hospital) plus congestion charge makes it potentially a v expensive option. but a thread in childbirth alerted me to the fact that taxis may not take me.... think i'm starting to understand why. i think you should go hang out in the childbirth section of MN now - seems like in just one birth, you can now advise on cs's, pool births, forceps etc etc ...

my face ache infection just wont go and is really beginning to worry me. its nowhere near as mind bendingly painful as it was over xmas, or even last weekend, but i am worried that i've been on penicillin now for a week and its still a constant pressured feeling. mentioned it to MW and she didnt seem to think any probs, which is good, but worried if it still hasnt gone before birth and i finished antibiotics then it could be seen as a problem. i know that labour rarely goes the way you want it anyway, but would be a shame to have problems before i even started!

ok - MIA shoutout. Redbush, Ruva and Lexie! wasssup?? Tallulah, last heard of having contractions about a week ago? and MitfordSisters - induced on Tues... hope all's ok with you guys... look forward hearing your news.

right off for another curry...

OneHandedTypist · 29/02/2008 18:52

Maybe deluding ourselves but we all agree ds4 trying 2 smile. Seems absurd sine He's only 2 weeks old, but his eyes really light up, it's not just wind .

Congrats, bovril. Like dominoes, we shall all fall eventually!

Cloth naps: am using muslins w/ boosters or terries in origami fold. I hate prefolds, they're boosters in ds3's nappies at best.

Mother's Day plan: not get out of bed & eat lots of chocolate brazil nuts?

princessllama · 29/02/2008 19:37

Congratulations bessie, readytopop,k27 and bovril and violeta. suspect that jays3rd and tyaca are as as me. is it just the 3 of us left, given that samsmam is having an induction today. for mothers day my only wish is to be giving or have given birth.
thought was being pretty calm with the phone calls etc. but am now starting to get narky every time i get another text saying 'how are you'. why not just come out and say it instead of the stupid q. fil-'so you're not in labour then' no, obviously i wouldn't be answering my phone to you would i?' . still, must remember well meaning...
i am ready with the muslins when the time comes, remember alot of changing and washing last time. am going to start with the cloth nappies after a few weeks. will be putting dd back into cloth ones too so really will be doing more washing.
so dramatic bovril, the waters breaking in the car. must have been gutting to have to go through everything and then c section. amazing the obstetrician managed to turn lo during labour from transverse.
sorry you had to have a c section too bessie.
big congratulations to scully hope everything goes well.
gingermumi glad you have apt for ds.
tyaca i am having hot curry tonight again too-having vowed not to after last time. also trying a bath full of clary sage oil-or shall i just ram the bottle up a nostril. tyaca i did laugh at your comment re ferrero rocher the other day-unfort. overindulged at work as we used to get bucket loads of them so just going for straight creme eggs. dh was so dedicated yesterday he ended up buying a creme egg easter egg box as couldn't find any individual eggs and had looked in 3 shops.
my money is on jaysthird, followed by tyaca. am starting to settle in for big wait as was 10 days over when had to be induced last time.

alkar · 29/02/2008 19:41

Congratulations to Siree, Bessie, readytopop, violeta and k27, sounds like you are all enjoying your LO's.

Scully - congrats on your bfp and good luck with your pregnancy.

Re cloth nappies we were using fluffles which were really good and they dry quickly but DS's cord hasn't quite healed yet and is still bleeding from time to time so didn't want urine getting on it. Am back on pampers for now but fully intend on going back to the fluffles asap.

Lots of sick here too. Seems to have got much worse in the last two days really. Put a wash on then he threw up all over me and himself - can never get the wash baskets empty!

Jaysthird · 29/02/2008 20:25

Still here Princess....... doubt i will be next, like you i feel like settling in for the long haul! I had an acupuncture session this evening, hoping that that, followed by another hot curry, Clary sage bath and some 'hows ya father' will do something towards bringing this baby into the world...sigh!

Scully!! Hiya, congrats on your BFP. So pleased for you and that it came at the time it did

Well done readytopop,k27,bessie,bovril and violeta hope you are all enjoying your little ones and not stressing too much !

OK will catch you all later

BIG FAT POSITIVE LABOR VIBES TO ALL THAT NEED THEM!!!!!!*

bovrilsarnies · 29/02/2008 20:27

Well done to all others who have hatched!!

Egg ? DP has always insisted through the pregnancy that we were never going to the hospital in his car!!!! It was my car that suffered ? but having said that ? it Is a company car (DP owns his own)

Tyaca ? I have heard similar stories about taxi?s refusing to take you if they think there is a chance of your waters breaking on the way.

Is there any chance your face ache infection might be tooth related rather than just a regular infection? I suffered with something similar ? but it turned out to be a dodgy molar!!

princessllama - i was a bit gutted with it all ending in a c section - but all in all Seren and I are both safe and sound - and thats what counts in the end. Mind you - IF we ever have another I would seriously consider an elective c section rther than go through all that again!!

princessllama · 29/02/2008 20:48

oh god jay, maybe should try sex too-dont know if i can face it, especially after a searingly hot curry. have acupuncture booked in for sunday
tyaca-we had massive probs getting a taxi last time, you would have thought i was a plague victim. still, standing at the side of the road with huge bump and small suitcase, dh at my side was not a winner! we were fine once i hid on one side of road with my bag and he caught the cab on the other side which then had to take me. should have seen cabbie's face. little did he know he was safe as houses and was still being induced 2 days later. wouldn't have liked to try it in a hurry though.

omy · 29/02/2008 20:54

Congratulations bessie, readytopop,k27 and bovril and violeta!!! so many babies since I last looked! Some rather huge little mites too! Well done all. I don;t blame you bovril about the elective idea for next time! phew - you tried everything!

To those 3 still who have strayed into March babies - hang in there!

Jaysthird · 29/02/2008 21:02

lol OMY i don't want to 'hang in there' i want to get it to 'hang out!!!' - i know what you mean though

tyaca · 29/02/2008 22:45

no to the shufty. big fat no...
princess and jaysthird, i gave up on anything as subtke as clary sage baths// massages some time last week and since then have just been sniffing the bottle. it sits by my laptop and DH says the smell haunts him all day long.

curry wasnt great. place i'd never been to before. curry is the only thing i am a v picky about. this place was style over substance - and not hot enough.

THEN was violently ill after. really unpleasant. if i wasnt pg, i'd assume i'd had a short but v nasty attack of food poisoning. have been ok for last half hour. if that was the start of labour and the sign of things to came... then f@@k the yogabirth and midwife-led unit, i'm going get me an epidural.

OP posts:
readytopop · 01/03/2008 01:57

Congratulations to all the new babies, however they joined us, so long as they are well. Big labour vibes to all still waiting.

hurray, milk has come in and we are now going more than 20 mins between feeds!!! Ds was like this, as I remember. Dh is having to sit on his hands to keep them off the watermelons

I had one of my friends from my original aquanatal gang (from ds 4yrs ago) come to visit today, and she's a bit left out that N was asked to be there, I am under instructions to have another so that 1: N can lose her dcs properly and be there for all of it, and 2: all 4 members of the auqa gang can be there. if I do have another I shall be selling tickets!!!

I sent ds back to nursery today, rather than have him bouncing at home. dh was reeling in bed still from the toxic newbie farts, so dd2's first trip outside was today, I throughly recommend pocket style slings, I just wish I'd dicovered them 4 yrs ago instead of getting the mothercare carrier I battled with.

DD2, like the others prefers to sleep on her front or with us... bohemian like her parents, preferring to stick 2 fingers up at government advice. It just doesn't quite feel right putting her down on her front though iykwim, but hopefully she'll be an early roller too.

Re cloth nappies, I have always used motherease, but am looking at pocket style when I come to replace them, I have been lent some small pocket ones, so we shall see...

for your hatched list, she was 27.02, 7lbs exactly, Olivia Rose. Lol at the dcs trying to say Baby Olivia, more like 'baby liver'

Lucyand2 · 01/03/2008 10:44

Have heard of one leap year baby from someone on this thread that I know in RL but I'll let her post all about it when she gets chance. It sounds like she did really well though and had another little girl to add to the collection.

sorry for my massive whinge yesterday, was rather tired Car is all fine now thanks to the wonderful garage sorting things cheaply.

Tried using cloth nappies during the night last night and it was a nightmare as I hardly had any left! DD2 promptly pooed in her fresh new nappy (I only had 4 left at this point) then she did the same thing in her terry just as I was popping that on her. The only other nappies left were huge fluffy terries that wouldn't fit under her clothes or get a wrap over! Ended up with me and DP running round the house at 2.30am to see if any from the laundry were dry!
DD2 soaks through her kissaluvs in one wee so we'll be abandoning those very soon. The tiny terries were great though, cannot recommend them enough.
Sorry for the nappy rant!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 01/03/2008 11:28

Ready to pop = just read your post- I had my DD on 7th Feb and we named her Rosie Olivia- just thought how strange we have swapped the named round as your DD is Olivia Rose-

We definately have great taste in names!!Lol

DS for the first few days called her Rosie Liver too!!!! has got it now though!!!

WEll DH, DD and i went out last night to a wedding reception, (left DS tucked up in bed with Grandad looking after him)

We had a great time, however Rosie took some of the brides limelight- not that she minded!!! Went to the bar at this posh hotel and bough a glas of wine and a pintof bitter and it const me £11-50 - i nearly fell over!!!!

Its great to get out but glad we dont go out too much ad we would be even more broke!!

Hope everyone is well-

look forw3ard to the birth anouncment from yesterdays hatchling- Lucyand2- you are such a tease!!!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 01/03/2008 11:29

sorry the spelling is terrible- trying to eat breakfast and type before DD wakes!!!

wotsits · 01/03/2008 11:37

Congrats, bovrilsarnies! Seren is a beautiful name, and one I had in mind if DS had been a girl. Oh well, maybe next time Am I mad? I was telling DH this morning about the All New Two Under 2 thread, and mused aloud as to whether there was a Three Under 5 one. He looked very

Feeding DS at 4 o'clock this morning, it occurred to me that we seem to have had most of our girl babies after the new moon. Of course, a scientific approach will probably disprove that but it's just a thought...
