Wow! had a couple of hectic days and look what i missed! Congratulations to Violeta, K27, Bovrilsarnies, Ruva, Lovemymum, Mitfordsisters, tallulah1978, Laliasmum and Samsmam!!! (and anyone i've missed.... ) Big hugs to the three of you still waiting too..... it does feel like time has stopped a bit, doesn't it? i HATED waking up and thinking " oh bloody hell, still f*ing pregnant!" every day, and you can't really get on with anything coz every thought starts with " when the baby arrives i'll...". Rest assured time speeds up pronto though ! it's like something out The Matrix, although without the decorative but dim Keanu to keep you amused at 4am!
Hope you are all doing ok, I do think about you all while i'm feeding Alex at night (she's beautiful and clever and wonderful etc etc but hey, it does get a teensy bit boring winding a baby for bleedin' hours and hours every night.... i've taking to saying "give us a B.. U... R... P!! over and over in the manner of American cheerleaders, does that make me completely nuts? anyone got anything better?)
Nappies, feeling guilty reading about all you using reusables, i can't imagine the hideous amounts of washing involved in wahsble nappies for both dd1 and dd2 so buy lots of own brand in Boots every week (dd1 allergic to Huggies and Pampers)and rack up the advantage card points and have never had a leak yet, so either they are fab (nappies or babies) or i'm lucky! (Mind you i have 2 dds.... can't stick their willy out the side!!!!)
I don't keep a log of feeds or nappies ( bad mummy alert!) but usually have in my head roughly when next feed should be, ie between 11pm and 12.30am ish... and kind of rely on Alex to tell me when she's hungry. Does that make me a crap mum?
Dd1 had a tough couple of days too... i think it's called pushing boundaries! oh well, can't last forever!love to all, and promises to post more often, am currently writing this on shiny new laptop!!(steam coming off credit card, but what the hell!!!) hope the curry and nookie work for those that need it! lolo xx

CountTo10 · 03/03/2008 21:43

Evening all - can't believe how many new hatchlings there have been!! Congrats to you all x

Tyaca - hope the sweep goes well

Well I feel like the worst person in the world today. Ds1 has been quite a handful recently and after a particularly stressful day yesterday we made him go to bed early. Then between ds1 and ds2 we were up to them every half hour or so. Ds2 still struggling to bring wind up so having to give him gripe water every other feed. Ds1 was just screaming and screaming. Eventually got him to tell us that his throat hurt so gave him medicine. 5.30am he woke up again (just as I'd finished spending an hour feeding, winding and changing ds2) to cry about his duvet not being quite right. By this point I'd had enough and told him off. I got back into bed and said to dp, like I care about his bloody duvet ffs why can't the pair of these bloody gits just bloody got to bloody sleep !!!!! Then discovered that ds1 had alsorts of crap coming out of one ear when we got up this morning, took him to the docs and he's got an ear infect and his ear drum had burst I felt so awful I'd been mean about him. He must have been in so much pain. Can't say it was a great job clearing his ear out though so my punishment!!! Few days in for us though. Have been run ragged between the two of them today!!!!

omy · 04/03/2008 08:40

Oooh horrid countto10! I know that guilty feeling! - in fact isn't that how you spell Mum? G U I L T...!
Congratulations to all new arrivals!
Egg - I am trying your advice and have just put a half asleep baby in a moses basket - no crying yet!
Lolo - I too know that night time burp scenario! Walking around seems to be the only thing to stop the crying - so around the kitchen table I go, while deciding how long to bear it alone before waking DH.
Re log - I have already given up after 1 day! I too rely on babes to tell me when she needs a feed, but I do try to feed her before she is desperate so as to miminise the panic which seems to make the windy problem worse!

leesmum · 04/03/2008 10:53

Congratulations to all our new mummies and a big welcome to all our new babies x

Who's left now is it just princess, tyaca and jaysthird...well i reckon whoever hangs on the longest should get the prestigious task of deciding what to call our first post-natal thread title, what does everyone else think?

Count we are also having a few problems with our Ds1, he just won't bloody listen, i start of asking him to do something and he ignores me so i just seem to get louder and louder each time i ask him and before i know it i'm shouting i hate that feeling when you know you've lost it and then i feel really guilty.

I havent even thought about a log but Ds2 pretty much wants feeding every 3 hrs still and as for sleeping i just let him have one when he wants, i'm waiting until he gets to 8 weeks to start some sort of routine, i did this with Ds1 and within a week his bedtime routine was established. I know they don't need a bath every night but we used to bath Ds1 at 6.30pm then feed then a little story or nursery rhyme, i think repetition is the key, they only know what you teach them.

Ds1 is at nursery today so i can get onto mn more, i'll be keeping an eye out for more babies please.

Jaysthird · 04/03/2008 11:04

Morning all

Tyaca, good luck with the sweep today, hope you are 'favorable!!' (thats so much better than saying - ripe!!) I cant send you to many labor vibes, have to try and save some for me....god two acupunture sessions, clary sage here there and everywhere....currys....bouncy ball.......even, wait for it, some sex.... still a big fat nothing. Its strange becasue for the past three weeks i have been having loads of twinges BH cramps etc etc...and now for the last three/four days, nothing! its all gone quiet. All movments have stopped really in the daytime and now only happen at night....its maddening!

To top it all, i havent been getting ANY sleep. DD was awake on and off all night, and DS is just a pain in the bum. Hes such a crap sleeper, wakes at the drop of a hat then cries for england. I despair of him, really i do...knackered and low today, as you can tell! - so i know how you are feeling countTo10 (without the ear infection bit!)

Sorry to go on, dont want to depress everyone!

leesmum · 04/03/2008 11:15

oh jaysthird don't feel too down, you WILL meet your scrummy new baby soon xxx

tyaca · 04/03/2008 13:27

hello all - only skimmed but just to say jaysthird i am returning the labour vibes right back at you. hopefully they will meet, reverberate and set things off. its so miserable isnt it? at least ive been able to kip and do nothing, cant imagine having to look after people too. consultant for you tomo?? gl - count the hours.

sweeps arent nice are they? apparently i'm ripe// favourable. hurrah! have been told to "keep" active which made me smile cause implies i've been active to begin with. my version of activity is to be making cheese scones - not v jiggy, i know, but upright at least

princessllama where art thou??

OP posts:
leesmum · 04/03/2008 13:34

Hi tyaca great to hear that you're "ripe", maybe you and hubby should have an early night?

princessllama · 04/03/2008 16:18

don't panic tyaca, still here! had a sweep too. apparently am semi ripe...have to go for another check up tomorrow and sweep again. not comfortable but better than heaving oneself round in the bedroom

tyaca · 04/03/2008 16:27

leesmum, i cant ever imagine being overdue enough to initiate an early night for any reason other sleep ...

oh, princess, i have become a bad person, half of me doesnt want either you or jaysthird to pop in case i end up last man standing... its all got a bit like picking teams in PE

this being active thing sucks. i have been doing stuff now for hours and it really doesnt suit. even now am perched on a pile of hardbacks rocking slightly... maybe i am so late cause i am so lazy?? added to the fact that i may have passed on this partic trait to my daughter to be...

right. allowing myself a quick ten min on mumsnet (going to search for discussion on sweeps in old threads- as far as i recall there's some heart-warming stories about contractions starting 4 hours later etc) then may attempt a bit more activity .... grrrrr

OP posts:
mitfordsisters · 04/03/2008 16:34

hi everyone. haven't read thoroughly back, but well done lailasmum on toben - what a qucik delivery in the end! Oh, and bovril on birth of seren - pint of old speckled hen is in order.

lovemymum - hope you're recovering well and enjoying your baby. I also ended up with an emergency caesarian.

I went in to be induced and after gel and syntocinon drip I was struggling and hector's heartbeat was irregular, so they whipped him out by section. this was the best thing given the circumstances even though a far cry from the nice hands off active birth i'd planned.

recovery is quicker than i expected and the post pregnancy hormones are really buzzy and little hector is such a joy...

princess - my mum gets me ferrero every xmas and birthday - i always think that with all those nuts in them they must be good for you.

tyaca - i do think gingers are a bit special - it is a life's ambition achieved to have a little carrot top. maybe you will too! good luck with the birth which will be soon. we thought the care we had at st thomases was top notchx

gingermumi · 04/03/2008 21:13

Quick post, ds had first vaccinations today and despite calpol has cried ever since. We have specialist tomorrow, will let you know how it goes.

Jaysthird · 04/03/2008 21:18

Boo!! - guess what...............

stil here still with child!!! grrrrr lol

I had a chat with the midwife this morning. Who was a little concerned that babies movements had slowed a bit over the past three days so off i went to the Maternity assessment unit where i was monitored for over an hour how boring!!! Anyway, lo's all ok, heartbeat good, movements there. Also MW there asked me if i wanted a sweep with her rather than the consultant tomorrow - of course i said!! wish i hadn't - am not that 'favorable' only 1cm dilated... cervix still high and still thick....FOR GODS SAKE.... I AM A WEEK OVERDUE, youd think it would have started to 'thin' out....anyyyyyway still have to see the consultant tomorrow, will arrange another sweep before any other induction talk!

So had my third acupuncture session this evening, god she really gave it to me!!! Feels like something really has been done to me! - time will tell!!!

LOL tyaca @ team picking in PE!!, i really think i will be last man standing...how funny it would be if we all gave birth on the same day??!!

ayrshirelolo · 04/03/2008 22:41

Oh girls, huge sympathy!! i was very nearly last on Jan thread (think i was just beaten into last place by 1 day!!) and it's completely miserable!! All you can do is keep singing that annoying song about "saving the best till last..." (think it's an annoying gravy ad!!)
Hope sweeps etc go well, and remember to walk up stairs sideways! (something to do with opening the pelvis, but watch you don't fall if you can't see yer feet!!)
Look forward to hearing lots of news soon from all 3 of you! Place your bets everybody else? Who's gonna pop first? Like the idea of last one gets to name the new post natal thread!
Oh countto10, how horrible for you! but yes, have to agree, that guilt thing is part of the job description, isn't it? (along with always having a tissue in your bag and worrying about vitamins..... never used to give a rats ass about either ....!)Hope the wee soul's ear is better already!
Anyway, love to everyone, Omy i will think of you as i do the windy walk later tonight (and i bought some Infacol today, although so far hasn't helped!) lolo xx

Egg · 05/03/2008 07:16

Oh ginger hope DS is ok now, they shouldn't normally cry that long I don't think... poor you and him . Good luck at specialist today.

Good luck to the final three. I really do hope you all go into labour on same day so nobody is left behind, but don't worry we will all be here to support you no matter how long you have to wait .

Not had much sleep, babies and I seem to be getting another cough / cold so they were a bit unsettled. Keeps making me wonder if they would not be getting ill if I was bf but I think I would have gone insane by now if I was due to lack of sleep...

princessllama · 05/03/2008 08:20

egg, am sure the twins are getting lots of colds because you have a toddler in the house, it's a classic second baby thing isn't it? no expertise on this for the moment.
still here ladies. ready for another sweep today. will be wobbling off to the apt like an emperor penguin with his egg. will now go and walk up the stairs crab wise.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 05/03/2008 08:38

morning all,

good luck and lots of labour wishes to our ladies in waiting!!!!

hope all is well with everyone.

Egg= i agree with princes about illness its because your ds1 is at nursery= nothing to do with you not bf!!!! i am not either just didn't feel comfortable about it!!! and i feel i made the best choice- no one should feel guilty about the choices made about how to feed their child/children.

anywy off to make up bottles

Jaysthird · 05/03/2008 08:47

Morning all nothing much to report. Had some Strong BH this morning with VERY light cramping, but its all stopped now! I have consultants this arvo, do you think he would do another sweep after only having one yesterday? Princess did you say you had had one yesterday and having another today?

Egg, after i had DS he also got a handful of colds, coughs and runny noses, i know its a pain in the proverbial BUT all the while they are building up their immune system so the more they get now the better they will be at handling them later on IYKWIM. i used to put some vicks or vapor rub on some tissue and stick it in the cot near to them, obviously not to near so that they got it, but near enough to give off a bit of smell to help them breath. Also elevate their mattress a bit so that that hey dont get any more congested (if thats possible) Once they get to 3mths you can use those calpol vaporisers which i find helpful! - sorry if you already know this i dont want to 'teach you to suck eggs!!'

Ginger DD cried all day with her first injection even with calpol. It did ease off eventually. Good news though, the next lot she hardly fllinched, perhaps this might be the case for you too! Fingers crossed.

Right off to take princesses lead, make like a crab and walk the stairs!!!!

princessllama · 05/03/2008 10:06

gingermumi hope the apt goes well-forgot to say earlier.
tyaca, what with you not using the lift imagine how effective it could be if you did the crab walk the whole way to the fifth floor!
yup jaysthird had a sweep yesterday and going off for another now.blimey oh riley as my mum would say. if nothing else, there's a full moon on friday so that should help us

beansprout · 05/03/2008 10:18

Really busy here at the moment but just want to pop in and say hi to you all. Best of luck to those of you left to pop. The moments when I met my babies were the best of my life, it's so lovely that you have that to look forward to.

Hope you are all well, will try and catch up later!

tyaca · 05/03/2008 11:04

17 post to think of a new post-natal thread title ladies! i am officially the least qualified person here at having babies, so over to you guys. you can tell i spend too long on MN; last night i dreamt that we started the new thread and there were these really bossy posters already there telling us how to feed our kids. i need a life

no contractions, tweaks or twinges here. really gutted. hopes so high yesterday - didnt want to jinx anything and write it down, but am 2cm dilated, cervix anterior, well effaced. plus the sweep forced the show (ugh). Whatsmore, after one painful go, MW said, well done, shall we do another while we're here and goddamn i'm nails, i went straight back for more. so v gutted. and all that activity yesterday ....

gl princess for your sweep today. its 8 floors BTW... only just heard about the crab walking thing, tho' you'd#ve thought 8 floor walked any which way would do something. gl at consultants jaysthird.

hello to all with babies too

lol at crab walking up 8 flights of stairs!

princess, tyaca and jay i really feel for you three now has any of you been given a date for induction yet? i'll bet you would rather things progress naturally though wouldn't you? are any of you still getting heartburn? i think that had to be the worst thing about pregnancy, but it does go as soon as you give birth

goodluck with all appointments today and i think that the last ante natal thread should be...Due feb 08 Jay,Tyaca and Princess get a bloody move on...

leesmum · 05/03/2008 12:57
