roobearbaby · 29/11/2022 20:33

I think someone is using me as a human dummy this evening. He hasn't been off my boob for longer than about 10 minutes!

tb4122 · 29/11/2022 22:38

Has anyone got any advice for painful breasts as my milk comes in? Baby has had breast milk poos yesterday and today but today my boobs are huge and sore.

He's been feeding OK and I've been switching sides religiously to try to get some relief for both sides but it's still very sore. Tried to express a little but not very successful.

Beanniebaby22 · 29/11/2022 22:55

@tb4122 expressing was the only thing that relieved my breast pain. I was so engorged and was too much for baby to take in one sitting. Filled a good few bottles lol.

tb4122 · 29/11/2022 23:13

@Beanniebaby22 did you hand express or pump? I've read it's not advised to pump before 6 weeks so I haven't got one.

Beanniebaby22 · 29/11/2022 23:47

@tb4122 used a pump but that was on advice from my midwife because baby wasn’t latching properly at the start and they said if I didn’t want to lose my supply I needed to be pumping several times a day. Was giving the baby my breast milk by bottle until we could get his latch sorted out.

Elleb87 · 30/11/2022 08:58

Sorry I haven’t introduced myself, and remained quiet but i have finally had my miracle 7th round of ivf little boy on the 7th by elective section (was due on 13th.)

Unfortunately at the moment he has caught my cold, so any advice what I can do as a first time mum to help him? As I’m aware he can’t have calpol etc.

Many thanks

Beanniebaby22 · 30/11/2022 18:54

Congratulations @Elleb87 he is a little miracle indeed ❤️ Sorry I’m not sure what you can do for a cold that young. GP or health visitor might be able to advise?

Does anyone else’s little one have their days and nights completely the wrong way round?! 😅

DS will happily snooze all day, wake for his feeds and then settle again quickly. But come 10pm he’s wide awake, cluster feeding and gets whingey and cries non-stop every time I try to put him down, and that’s him til 6am!

I’m exhausted with it. It’s manageable for now when I don’t need to be anywhere so can nap during the day, but I hope this is just a short term phase!

Also doesn’t help that DP is a heavy sleeper and a snorer. Nothing as irritating as dealing with a screaming baby on your own at 3am when you’re knackered and other half is happily snoring loudly beside you lol.

Congratulations @Elleb87 birth date buddy!

Its hard when they are that small with a cold as there is nothing much they can have at all.
There is snuffle babe range thats a baby version of vapour rub which im sure is ok for young babies. Also a nasal aspirator is good for removing snot but i think thats about it really!

@Beanniebaby22 this is literally me at the moment! Its a never ending cycle of up down up down! Hes also hard to put down during the day sometimes too.
In my head im telling myself that its because he cant really see me yet so if he cant see or smell me thinks im gone so its just a phase. Im sure ds1 was similar i remember needing a sling in the end with him as i was stuck not being able to do anything otherwise.

OP posts:
ALittleBitofVitriol · 30/11/2022 20:06

Congratulations on your little man @Elleb87! Sorry he has a cold. Vaporiser/humidifier while they sleep, I like to take my babies in the shower with me and let it steam up. If you're breastfeeding, plenty of feeds/on demand.

@tb4122 with my first, I was so surprised by all. the. milk. I remember crying it was so sore. I hand expressed in the shower, the warm water helped with the let down. I just expressed enough to take the pressure off and to de-engorge so bubs could actually latch on. It does settle itself eventually, though I always had plenty of milk.

Baby K is 4 weeks old today. I drove for the first time yesterday and it was fine. Healing seems to be going well, no more temperature or infection symptoms. Breastfeeding going great, pain is mostly over and I feel like my supply is finally good. We are getting into a more settled routine, he mostly goes back to sleep well at night. Dh & one of my older kids swear they've seen him smile but I don't buy it, another week or 2 I think. My older kids are smitten. He is getting more alert, it's amazing how they communicate with their eyes. I'm really enjoying the newborn stage this time, I'm much more relaxed and confident. Later in life surprise baby - recommend! 😄

Anna783426 · 30/11/2022 21:47

@elleb87 congratulations on your baby, he does sound like a miracle. No genius advice for a cold other than keeping a close eye and following your instinct if you think he's struggling with breathing or you're worried. Fingers crossed it passes quickly.

We had our six week check with the GP today which was a huge anticlimax - I even had to ask for her to be weighed as they weren't going to do it. No length measurements, or head circumference, or anything really. Definitely recommend going prepared with any questions/things you definitely want to know as I just got flustered when she started crying and forgot all my questions - very annoying!

We're also in the midst of cluster feeding most evenings so spending a lot time reminding myself it doesn't last forever! Had a glimmer of a smile today as well which was lovely but feel a lot of guilt it's very different from my first who had a lot of attention all of the time - when this one's in the sling I sometimes forget she's even there...

Laneymoo · 30/11/2022 22:11

Hi all. FTM here, baby girl is 3 weeks old now, born on the 7th of November, due on the 8th. Was induced due to high BP and was in hospital for nearly a week, couldn't wait to get home! I tried breastfeeding, her latch and suck were good but I found it so hard mentally, I was not prepared for that at all. So we switched to formula and the improvement in my mood was significant. Congrats to all the other November Mama's!

smiles39 · 01/12/2022 10:17

Our baby boy was born on Sunday 27th ❤️ after a dream pregnancy we had a prolonged 3 day labour, traumatic birth and an ambulance ride back to hospital the morning after we bought him home. We’ve both been through the wringer, I feel like a shadow of a person and still in hospital looking after him for now. But my god he’s perfect xx

tb4122 · 01/12/2022 13:15

@smiles39 congratulations and sorry you've had a rough time. I sympathise, although my delivery was very straightforward, I've had several post partum issues and have been back to hospital every other day since my son's birth 6 days ago. Also feeling like a shell of a person due to severe post partum anaemia which had me feeling like I was dying on Monday.

I hope it gets better for you very soon.

@ALittleBitofVitriol thats so lovely hes settled in and everyone is smitten with him and that your doing so well and healed nicely

@Anna783426 dont feel guilty they dont know any different and we shes in the sling that will be one of her happy places and she is warm, comfy, can smell and here you thats all they need 😊

@Laneymoo congratulations and welcome and hello birth date buddy!
I am firm believer that not enough information is given about breast feeding. You hear the pros but are never told the cons and i think thats really unfair on a mother who needs all the information to make an informed decision.
But i am glad you feeling better 😊

@smiles39 oh bless you, im sorry it was so traumatic for you make sure you look after yourself

@tb4122 oh poor you that sounds really hard i hope you are being looked after? You look after yourself too.

Thanks @NotAdultingToday I strongly agree with you there and from speaking to friends they all feel the same. I'm just happy baba is healthy and thriving!

greenerfingers · 02/12/2022 07:56

Congratulations to all the mamas who delivered! What a lovely little miracle @Elleb87! I can't imagine what you've been through and how much joy he's brought you.

Sorry to hear about all the breastfeeding and post partum issues. I breastfed exclusively 2 years with my first and yet here I am again with the sore nipples, poor latch, trying to increase supply and topping up with a syringe/bottle. You're right @Laneymoo no one does tell you just how hard it is and it's almost made out to be a very quick, stick them on and done, sort of thing. I was mentally really struggling the first two days as I knew he wasn't draining the colostrum properly and losing weight/getting jaundiced. I've been hand pumping and feeding with a syringe and already nappy output is better and baby is more content. I'll do the same as you @Beanniebaby22 till he learns to latch better and more efficiently.

I've also got lots of post partum pain this time and still struggling to walk days on. Not sure how long it'll be but seems like a longer road to recovery and I'm itching to be up and about again. Still... ANYTHING beats being pregnant at the end 😅.

Glad things are going well for you and you're up and about again @ALittleBitofVitriol

My toddler is taking it well so far and is smitten but has suddenly refused to sleep unless in my bed and wakes with nightmares. Think that's his way of expressing the change. He's genuinely terrified when he wakes bless him.
