@TFMinx @roobearbaby it has been quiet! Think we’re all just busy with babies. Crazy my little boy is almost a month old already. It’s gone by so fast!

greenerfingers · 09/12/2022 23:31

We're in the midst of trying to get back up to birth weight with a very sleepy baby.

How're you getting on @roobearbaby?

Can't believe some of the babies are 1 month plus! My little one is almost 2 weeks and they've flown.

When did everyone's baby's get back to their birth weight? My first was 17 days but he fed a lot more.

Beanniebaby22 · 09/12/2022 23:40

@greenerfingers think he was back to birth weight by 2 weeks.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 10/12/2022 01:11

@greenerfingers my baby took almost 3 weeks and I was a little worried, I've read that 2-3 weeks isn't unusual for a breastfed bub. Mainly worried because I was already concerned about my supply. At about 4 weeks I decided he'd not gained enough and supplemented with formula and breastfed every 2hrs ish. He just turned 5 weeks and his weight has bounced right back up to the percentile it should be, my supply has increased and he's getting about 60ml formula top up a day.

greenerfingers · 10/12/2022 03:10

Thanks @Beanniebaby22 and @ALittleBitofVitriol

Mine was adding well first week or so @ALittleBitofVitriol and then since day 5 it's slowed right down. He's a sleepy baby and falls asleep at the breast or just doesn't feed as much. I feel like it's affected my supply the last few days majorly. I'll see how he is at his 2 week check up and pump till then. After that I might give him top ups as well till at least his appetite increases and he builds my supply more.!

rickandmorts · 10/12/2022 05:11

Hey everyone just checking in. I went into labour 2am Tuesday morning and had high hopes for a home waterbirth with twinkly lights and candles but baby obviously didn't read the birth plan 🤣. We had a bit of a nightmare, ended up having to go to hospital but our local one was on red alert and shut it's doors due to lack of midwives so ended up somewhere else an hour away with a traumatic back to back labour and episiotomy on Thursday 8th December. We got home last night so just having a cuddle in bed after an early morning feed!! Feeling very battered and bruised but baby girl is 9lb4, happy and healthy and I can finally join the birth list 🙈❤️

rickandmorts · 10/12/2022 05:13

Thanks for asking @greenerfingers xx

ALittleBitofVitriol · 10/12/2022 05:37

Oh wow @rickandmorts! Congrats on your girl! And well done getting through all of that, what a story. Rest up and enjoy your sweet girl!

@greenerfingers, is he doing that (feeding & falling asleep) frequently? Mine sometimes falls into a snacking pattern, where he eats just enough to sleep, then naps just a short time, wakes up hungry, rinse and repeat. It's exhausting! I was advised to try to stretch out the feeds to 3 hours apart, enough to get properly hungry then feed properly then hopefully sleep properly. Such an easy cycle to fall into!

greenerfingers · 10/12/2022 07:27

Well my first did the snacking pattern and was a right chunk with great supply haha! This one sleeps 2-3 hours then has a bit and off to sleep
again. He's alert and content and plenty of nappies so I don't worry in that sense but u know he isn't having full feeds. Going to try pumping to increase my supply and then keep the extra milk for top ups as he drinks more with a bottle and I can keep him awake longer.

greenerfingers · 10/12/2022 07:29

Ahh bless you @rickandmorts, well done on pushing out 9lber!! And back to back too. My first was back to back and so I can totally relate to the soul crushing pain. My only advice is take it really really easy, I rushed back into things too quick and my lower back never forgave me. This time I've rested more and healed much better over all.

Enjoy your newborn cuddles 🥰

TFMinx · 10/12/2022 07:50

@greenerfingers DD was back to birth weight by her 10 day check, however she's not been taking as much from her bottle recently as she's full of cold and is struggling, bless her; the joys of having a big brother at school to bring home all the germs. I imagine she's tailed off, weight-wise.

smiles39 · 10/12/2022 09:34

@rickandmorts congrats on your bay girl! I feel your pain, I also had a back to back labour. Had this plan for an intervention free natural birth too in midwife led centre, but baby had other plans! Ended up getting an epidural because I couldn’t handle the back pain after being in labour for 3 days. Hope you are recovering well xx

Beanniebaby22 · 10/12/2022 10:02

Congratulations @rickandmorts 😊😊

@ALittleBitofVitriol I have a snacky baby aswell. It can get very frustrating when he does it at night.

greenerfingers · 10/12/2022 11:37

Thank you @TFMinx, I was hoping for the same but little man has other plans. He doesn't drink much unless I express and give via bottle as he's kind of forced to stay awake and drink. No comfort there.

tb4122 · 10/12/2022 12:16

My little guy seems to be bucking the weight trend- he was first weighed at 5 days old and weighed his birthweight (8lbs15oz) then at 12 days old he weighed 10lbs3oz. I've been extremely lucky in how well breastfeeding has gone but I appear to be creating a hulk baby! He is very long so doesn't look chunky yet.

Has anyone else had any issues with passing urine since birth? I went into urinary retention and had a catheter in place for 12 days, which came out on Thursday. I can pee now but I can't feel that I need to go, I just have a try every few hours. One of my friends had similar without the need for the catheter and said it was about a month before she had full sensation back. Hoping it will come back at some point.

rickandmorts · 10/12/2022 15:17

@greenerfingers @smiles39 you've made me feel loads better thank you ❤️ I can't stop crying because my labour was the total fucking opposite of what I planned so to hear others say a back to back was so hard validates the fact I had to go into hospital and have pethidine which I was so so against. Anyway I'd do it all again 10x over to get my beautiful baby 😍

greenerfingers · 10/12/2022 15:53

Well if it makes you feel any better, my first was meant to be a dream home birth with the candles and lights and the whole shebang 🙄 (oh naivety 🤣), was a 22 hour back to back labour and 2 hours of pushing. Yes I was at home and did it but I was so so drained from it that with this baby I decided if it gets to 7/8 hours and that sort of pain I'll transfer in and get an epidural, just so I can have a better start to dealing with the newborn phase. I also had an open mind and different plans eg hospital birth, midwifery let unit, and home birth all ready. I had a difficult start as my labour was so draining from no.1 and the whole newborn phase wasn't pleasant for me. I really hoped this baby would be my healing and he was, no back to back this time, and much much shorter. I actually have energy to look after my baby this time. Fingers crossed the same for you if you decide to have more in the future xx (p.s my back to back labour was easily 5 times harder than a 'normal' labour)

Laneymoo · 11/12/2022 00:31

All good here @roobearbaby the baby blues seem to have lifted and I'm feeling much brighter. We went out tonight for our anniversary and my sister has taken LO overnight so baby free evening and morning! Baba will be 5 weeks old on Monday and she was back to her birth weight at 1 week old, she's a savage though!

Congrats @rickandmorts my labour was induction as well as back to back and Christ it was intense. I was floating on air once I got the epidural 😂 hope everyone is doing well x

Its interesting to read people have snacky babies. Mine is the same but with formula, it is very rare he finishes a bottle (im trying not to think about the money im throwing away 🤦🏼‍♀️) it makes me feel better that others have that too. And he has plenty of wet and dirty nappies and is mostly content so thats good.

@DoraDee i see your concern now. All i can say is try not too worry too much, as long as your following the advice and not over doing it i cant see you causing and problems, especially as you are healing nicely

roobearbaby · 11/12/2022 20:38

I had a back to back birth too! I didn't find the contractions that bad until my body started trying to push baby out, at that point I lost all control and couldn't breathe through my contractions any more.

It ended with an episiotomy and a ventouse delivery as baby simply drop any further into my birth canal due to his position.

Not sure how I managed 3 hours of pushing AND an instrument delivery on only gas and air but I did!

It definitely do it all again though!

I also have a very snacky baby, don't mind so much during the day haha

greenerfingers · 13/12/2022 17:58

@ALittleBitofVitriol needing some advice please!

My LO is gaining weight soo slow and I'm sure my supply has lessened because of his sleepiness this last week. He's just about getting to birthweight and is 16 days tomorrow. 8g away. Lots of wet and dirty nappies and he seems content but I realise he's barely drinking anything, probably 5 minutes then he nods off. I thought because he was content it was fine but I think he's just sleepy still from jaundice.

How much were you topping your little one up to help encourage weight gain, and how did your supply build up? Even after going through this the first time I'm still an anxious mess 🤦🏽‍♀️ (mind you the first was a guzzler but supply was low, this one had the supply and didn't take it and now it's low again. At least the first would clusterfeed till it built up!)

Beanniebaby22 · 13/12/2022 18:50

@greenerfingers I’ve found expressing every few hours has really increased my supply. My little one feeds in short bursts and falls asleep too. So giving him expressed breast milk aswell. Makes me feel better as can actually see how much he is taking. And he’s definitely getting chubbier!

roobearbaby · 13/12/2022 19:15

@grgreenerfingers I had a similar situation to this.

We topped up with about 40-50ml every few hours. Ideally with milk I had pumped but mostly with formula.

To up my supply, I pumped every 2 hours OR everytime he fed for those really short periods of time, making it up to 15 minutes in total. If he fed for 5 minutes I would pump for 10 minutes for example.

I never really got a huge output from pumping but it did start to increase after a week or so.

We are now exclusively breast fed and don't give any top ups and he is gaining weight like a trooper. Got a double chin and everything

I hope that helps ❤️

That’s pretty much what I did/am doing too, you explained it a lot better @roobearbaby lol
