MORNING {sorry its a moan again}

I am off work again today!!!

I work in the 0-3yrs room of a busy day nursery,it means a lot of lifting and being on my feet for hours.three days that I work are from 8.30am - 6.00 pm with half an hour for lunch.I do get to sit down for short times in the day but on the whole I am on my feet.

Last thurs I started spotting a tiny amount of blood,I told my supervisor she let me go home and I took friday off as well.
I told her that my doctor had said that i need to take it easy and be careful not to do too much.
When i went in yesterday she had still put me down to do those long hours.I felt like hell shaky and really tired. My dh told me to take today off and see the doctor again.

I have an appointment and I am phoning the CAB to see what my rights are, problem is I dont get paid for time off and this just adds to the guilt.

Julezboo · 26/02/2008 08:54

mumstheword great news about scan So happy for you!!

Bethoo - I have skipped past your posts about 8th week being the most worrying We are all gonna be just fine!

I've ran out of injections, managed to get the docs yesterday and hopefully the chemist should deliver some today for me I've pulled a muscle just above my boob too and its agony, specially with being sick all the time. It was actually my darling 1 yr old, i had my head in a bowl yesterday throwing up and he yanked my head up my my hair and found it hilarious little monkey.

sambrads · 26/02/2008 09:17

antiageing i would definately speak to someone on your cause !!!!

go to yur docs and get them to put you on the sick til your feeling a bit better.
you should not have to go into work and work those long hours especially if your bleeding!!!!

i am a chef and when i was pregnant i swear the women would not let me slack one bit i worked til i was 35 weeks 50 hours a week and i got no special treatment at all . i kept asking for a risk assessment but they would not do one i was ripping i wish i had the brains back then as what i do now.

you will find that women are the worst for making you get on with things and men can be alot more kinder

antiageing - now your employer knows that you are pregnant, they are legally obliged to carry out a risk assessment and you should be entitled to paid time off due to any pregnancy-related problems. Have a look at www.berr.gov.uk/files/file34285.pdf

There's now a Nov 08 thread so this month must have gone quicker than I thought!

fairydust2 · 26/02/2008 09:54

daisyj · 26/02/2008 09:54

ronshar - wise words - you are so right, on all counts!

Fall08baby - congratulations. And yes, perfectly normal. Yesterday was my worst day by far (see previous post ), and ended with me phoning my mum in tears at 10 babbling about babies dying and horrible things like that. Take ronshar's advice and DO NOT do internet searches on things you are worried about - you will only make it worse! One the plus side, though, moments of calm do seem to intervene, particularly after consuming large amounts of carbs! xx

fairydust2 · 26/02/2008 09:55

Congrats on seeing a heartbeat Mumstheword! That's very positive.

ronshar · 26/02/2008 09:59

Legally your employer has to give you a risk assessment. However whether they then stick to it is a whole different thing!! Ultimately you should only do as much as you feel safe doing. If that means going home at lunchtime until your employer changes your hours to suit your early pregnancy tiredness etc then do that! You are not letting down your employer as you are going to work but you will be showing her that you wont be taken advantage of!! Ultimately you need to sit down and discuss it with her. Find out your rights first. Look up employment law/pregnancy, take it with you!

I am trying to renegotiate my contract with my DH, so far all I have got is tea & toast in bed. Not doing so well

iuseantiageingstuff · 26/02/2008 12:34

Thanks for your advice

Just got back from the doctor he suggested I take a week of sick, he doesnt think it is anything awful just early pregnancy.

I forgot about all this illness and tiredness at the beginning.
If I take this time off maybe my employers will realise my hours are too much at present.

hopefully this moaning stage will come to an end as well I feel so bl!!!dy hormonal.

sorry .

loulou33 · 26/02/2008 12:41

HI antiageing - how come you don't get sick pay - that's a bit rubbish. Hope you feel a bit better now you've seen your doctor - soulnds like a sensible one! Maybe you have to tell your employer that its too much - clearly they are not very good at taking bloody great hints!! Their attitude stinks and makes me very mad

Scan in 2 days and counting - will be 9+4 by then and i have a little but obvious bump. went to kick boxing with a loose jumper on and was very hot but couldn't take it off as t-shirts keep riding up over bump - aaaahhh.

Can't believe there is an november thread already, we're no longer the newbies!!!

Lozza70 · 26/02/2008 12:50

Question for those of you more experienced at this pregnancy stuff! Can you eat any cheese as long as it is pasturised and not blue veined or moulded such as brie? I'm getting confused and my current passion for loads of tomatoes, avocado and feta or goats cheese is not going to go away so I need to know if I'm doing the wrong thing eating it[confused ecomotion]

PrePG · 26/02/2008 13:10

sambrads I think you just left off the 4 But yay for only 23 days more to go!!!! (gosh that sounds like a long time!)

As for week 8 or 9 or whatever we're in being high risk - well, my new mantra is My body knows what to do. My body wants to do this. My body wants to do this right!!! I think it's important for us all to remember that women have babies everyday and have been for centuries!! This is a natural process that we're well equipped for!

perkypopsy · 26/02/2008 13:26

I'm jealous of everyones bumps - have been rooting around for one but just have a new tyre of bread and salt-induced flab and nothing else...come on womb grow grow!!!

bethoo · 26/02/2008 13:51

i qm trying ot hold off getting a bump butmy crappy diet of pot noodles and crisps is going to make that impossible!!!

Julezboo · 26/02/2008 15:31

eww pot noodles!!! I threw one up when i was pregnatn with DS havnt been able to stomach one since... same with sausages

Ive had a bit of a meltdown today, DS is having a "screaming" day, my sickness seems to have peaked a bit more if thats possible so Ive pretty much cried along with DS today, then when i did actually force myself out of the house the stupid car wouldnt start and the 7 workmen working on teh road outside my house stood and watched me !

fairydust2 · 26/02/2008 15:38

Here here on the ewwww pot noodles!! When bethoo mentioned them the other week, I thought Yummy and went to buy some. After eating it, I felt really sick.

Screaming days aren't fun when pregnant. My dd seems to save her screaming fits for the supermarket and I have to race around as fast as I can.

loulou33 · 26/02/2008 17:10

Hi Lozza, I found this on a website - hope it helps. i understood that feta is pasterised and therefore ok and i am eating tons of it too with olives, sun dried tomatoes and basil in a baguette (yummy emoticon).

In the USA, pregnant women are advised to avoid feta cheese because of the risk of listeria, but the feta cheese sold in the UK is considered safe to eat during pregnancy.

Cheeses which are SAFE to eat in pregnancy

Hard cheeses:
austrian smoked, Babybel, caerphilly, cheddar, cheshire, derby, double gloucester, edam, emmental, english goat's cheddar, feta (if bought in the UK), gouda, gruyere, halloumi, havarti, jarlsberg, lancashire, manchego, orkney, paneer, parmesan, pecorino (hard), provolone, red leicester.

Soft and processed cheeses:
Boursin, cottage cheese, cheese spread, cream cheese, mascarpone, mozzarella, Philadelphia, Quark, ricotta.

Yoghurts, fromage frais, soured cream and creme fraiche any variety, including natural, flavoured and biologically active are all safe to eat.

Cheeses to AVOID in pregnancy

Mould-ripened soft cheeses:
brie, blue brie, cambozola, camembert, chaumes, pont L'eveque, prince jean, tallegio. vacherin-fribourgeois, weichkaese.

Blue-veined cheeses:
bavarian blue, bergader, bleu d'Auvergne, blue shropshire, cabrales, Danish blue, dolcelatte, doppelrhamstuge, eldel pilz, gorgonzola, romano, roncal, roquefort, stilton, tommes, wensleydale (blue).

Soft unpasteurised goat and sheep's cheeses:
chabichou, pyramide, torta del cesar.

Lozza70 · 26/02/2008 18:01

Thanks Loulou33 The thought of giving up Feta at the moment is too hard. Sorry to everyone suffering the dreaded sickness but at the moment my appetite is HUGE!

Spink · 26/02/2008 19:49

evening!
I am feeling really satisfied - have felt sick all evening, then my lovely mum made me an omelet (how DO you spell that?!) with spinach and mushrooms. It should have been awful, eggs after all, but it totally sorted me out. such a relief to feel normal again! mm. tea and chocolate biscuit next!

about the cheese thing - last pregnancy, my GP told me that all pasteurised cheeses were ok, and I happily tucked into pasteurised Brie all the way through.. how confusing. Not sure what to do now.

mumstheword, yay for you and your beany!!
antiageing, I hope you feel much better soon, and that work is a bit more supportive when you get back. I was my manager's 1st preg employee last time and thought she would be rubbish (and she was at the start) but once she knew what I needed from her she was actually pretty good..
cantsleep ooh, I like the look of that.. is it easy to get on and off? and can you use it for carrying any kind of distance, or is it just good for pootling round the house?

Hi all. Can I join in ladies? I think I'm due 23rd Oct and have a DS who has just turned one. There seem to be an awful lot of us who are gearing up for two under 2 - are we all mad or stupid? Not been sick yet but feel quesy unless I eat every few hours - good excuse to eat cake I reckon!
Congrats to those of you who have had scans. I don't think I'll think it's real until we've seen that little heart.

Spink · 26/02/2008 20:10

oh, sorry about the egg thing. It was so surprising. but so right. even tho I did hold my nose for the first mouthful ...

welcome smudgey! there are so many of us with bubs who will be around 20 or so months when the new beans are sprouting!! lots of supporting eachother no doubt

minervaitalica · 26/02/2008 20:10

Hello!

I am back... I have just been sleeping all the time when I am not at work and even looking at Mumsnet is becoming harder... At least tiredness is my only symptom at the moment (besides craving stodge)- and I do feel for those of you who are battling morning sickness. A big hug there!

I am also getting a bit nervous about the pregnancy now... I had a scan at 6+5 and it was all OK thankfully, but I feel like I am getting more and more nervous as I get closer to the 12 weeks barrier and the next scan (topsy-turvy logic - I know).

Arrgh knowledge is not power sometimes...

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/02/2008 20:46

Spink - yes, it's very easy to get on and off, and we used it out and about. I wouldn't use it up to the 35lbs (est 2.5yrs) that they suggest though, as I think it would prob put too much strain on your body. I don't think we used it much after dd started walking at 11 months tbh - maybe just occasionally for a couple of months longer.

Congrats and welcome Smudgey.

Anyone else with an already two year old inwardly laughing at those who will have a second baby when their first is this age?
