MarchMum · 02/02/2008 10:09

happy birthday fitnforty!

littleducks · 02/02/2008 10:17

changed cars since dd was in baby carrier, so will go and check out the wiggle factor in this car, preggars.

i also wanted to ask about lining car seats, im sure i read that you shouldn't but then so many people do with blankets etc. they even sell sheepskin things, is it safe or not?

i wish the police would care about car seats round here, was horrified to see a couple leaving ikea with tiny baby held up by mum inchs from windscreen as back (where there was a hanging mobile so presumerably a car seat) was full of flat packs. We also got carried away in ikea once but at least were reasonsible enough to then get stuff delivered so everyone had a seat!

preggersagain · 02/02/2008 11:07

as long as it is a single thin layer and doesn't interfer with the functioning of the seat then lining the seat is ok- i have wallaboo footmuffs on mine and just put them underneath the newborn insert (maxi-cosi)

Dyfed Powys Police are good on car seats- they doled out over 100 fixed penalties last summer in about 6 different operations- lots of tourists so was rich pickings!!

piggyp · 02/02/2008 12:39

Hello ladies. Hope everyone is relaxing. Interested to read about car seats. I've already go a maxi-cosi - should I have got a newborn insert to go in it? There is a kind of padded anti head wobbling bit that looks as though it would come out - is that what you mean? Just been to mothercare to get the isofix base - but they didn't have any!
Got all the horrible looking maternity and breast pads (do I really need 100 for the first week !, felt quite faint at the thought and DH even more so! Also I hate all the waste, has anyone used washable breast pads - any recomendations? I presume you have to use them till you stop breast feeding.(happy to throw mat pads away though!)

rainbowdays · 02/02/2008 13:02

Piggyp - you may find you are like me and don't leak much at all.... I did not get through 100 in the whole 7 months of breastfeeding the first time, and I only used up the rest of the box feeding for a year the second time. I would hold off buying any more until you see if you leak much at all!

Preggersagain - great to get the yummy-mummy comment, well done you!

FMN - oh I am so so jealous of you being able to pee for real, it is such a wonderful experience if you can get it....!

merryberry · 02/02/2008 13:38

does eating 6 thick rich choc coated and orange and choc chip flavoured biscuits one after another count as being a yummy mummy?

[insert hopeful, self-delusional emoticon]

preggersagain · 02/02/2008 13:40

piggy- the basic cabrio has a head-hugger and the limited or special editions tend to have newborn full-body support (and charge a fair whack extra!!) I think all cabrios should have a little wedge cushion (under the cover) to make it flatter for a newborn- someone may be able to confirm- all the ones we sell have (but we mainly do the imageline and topline ranges)

Also- is it really worth getting the isofix base- why not get the easybase instead- the isofix one has just been slated for not being any safer than the one using the belts!! oh and its a right faff to fit!!

e14mum · 02/02/2008 14:34

Yes, merryberry it definitely does.

JFly · 02/02/2008 15:33

Oh geez, preggers, now you've got me thinking again. I was wondering about getting our carseat properly fitted, as it just arrived. I know in the States you can go to police/firestation and they have certified carseat fitters. Don't know of anything like that here.

I bought the isofix base for the maxi cosi, but our isofix was retrofitted to our car, so base probably not approved for use without the seatbelt (at least that's what the shop said). So, may end up having to use the seatbelt as well! Will have to call Volvo/Maxi cosi to make sure. So you think maybe just as good to use normal easybase? I had read on Which that their highest rating for Maxi Cosi was based on using isofix, so wondered what that meant for easybase.

Soooo confusing.

piggyp · 02/02/2008 15:55

Preggers thanks for advice and well done on being a yummy mummy. I think I'll be a scummy mummy.
Why are all baby related things so confusing? Have now located the wedge cushion bit! I definately read somewhere that isofix was supposed to be the safest and that all new cars will soon have to be fitted with the little hook things for them. Don't know what to do now.
May just carry on knitting (how have some of you done so much!), I've got 16 more squares to go for a blanket! Hoping to have time for a hat too.

derah · 02/02/2008 19:37

Evening ladies!

Had the midwife round today, home visit to chat about home birth and to let DH ask any questions. He's still not thrilled about the idea of a home birth, but he's not the one who has to do it! All is well, though. Scary thing is that it's only just over 2 weeks until mw will deliver the home birth stuff, which means I'm basically ready to go! Eeep!!

MB - why on earth would you want to be a yummy mummy anyway?! I'm with Piggy on being a scummy mummy! Biccies sound tasty though....

Piggy - I used reusable breast pads... fleece ones with hemp inside. I just washed mine with my nappies! They were really good but I would suggest using disposable ones at first when you're slathering on the nipple cream cos it can gunk up the washable pads.

Turtle - oooh, you'll have to come and visit me when it's 2 1/2 weeks to go and we'll see if your dream comes true! Well, except the part about baby arriving in 3 mins!

Right, off to make supper.....

derah · 02/02/2008 20:45

Forgot to mention, I had a meltdown in Sainburys today. It was the big weekly shop, and DH usually comes with me but DD was asleep so I went alone. By the end I was really not feeling good, trolley was v heavy and I was flopped all over it trying not to pass out in the checkout. We have Fast Track so it should have just been a case of handing the bleeper over to the cashier, paying and going. But nooooooo, they decided they had to re-scan me, which means unpacking all my neatly packed shopping, scanning it all again, and then re-packing it. I just had a meltdown, bleated that I'm 8 months pregnant, about to collapse and if they want me to re-scan, forget the whole thing and I'll just leave the frikkin' trolley right there. The cashier was a tiny boy, who looked rather frightened and not sure what to do. The supervisor came over, said "right, you go sit over there and we'll do it all for you", which she did, including coming out to the car with me to lift the heavy bags! Very nice of them, but why oh why is it always me they have to re-scan! FFS we signed up for Fast Track to make it all easier for me! Anyway, I won't be silly enough to try to do a big shop alone again!

HolidaysQueen · 02/02/2008 21:27

Oh derah - I had a meltdown in Tesco when only 6 months pregnant and with DH there to help me so you have tonnes more excuses than me.

It was enough to make me give up on Tesco and I'm now shopping at Waitrose (and trying to justify the extra expense by it being much closer to home, much more pleasant to shop in and stocking eco-friendly baby things including reusable nappies... plus they have agreed to let me use parent and toddler parking as I'm almost too big to get out of the car in a normal space now...)

I'm very excited - DH is just about get on his plane to come home. He's been in the US on a business trip since Tuesday and I've really missed him. Plus I've had a slightly irrational (given there are still 8 weeks to go) fear that I'd go into labour and he'd miss it all and I'd have to do it alone. At least if I go into labour tonight then there's a fighting chance he can get back before the baby arrives...

thequietone · 03/02/2008 14:14

Hi everyone,
I haven't been able to keep up with this thread esp. looking after DS (3 this month). Sorry! We've all had nasty colds so he was up all night for ages. I then got the cold and last Thursday morning seem to have torn a few ligaments in my ribs from coughing...I can barely move now, plus DH is in Russia on business until Friday. HELP!!!!!
So, 37 weeks tomorrow, and C section booked in for 25th Feb. Seems odd to KNOW when it's going to happen.
Right, need to stagger upstairs to get DS out of bed otherwise he won't sleep tonight, which means I won't sleep tonight, which means tomorrow we'll be extra grumpy etc. etc. etc.
xxx

MarchMum · 03/02/2008 16:24

Frustrated shoppers - Tesco online and/or Ocado? Has saved my life!

PurlyQueen · 03/02/2008 17:08

OMG - thequietone the babies are starting to come thick and fast!

My mum was reminiscing about when I was born at 33 weeks - and guess who is 33 weeks on Friday? I'm hoping that history doesn't repeat itself.

derah · 03/02/2008 17:12

Just hauled myself up into the loft to dig out all DD's baby clothes for the new arrival. So have the moses basket, car seat, tiny nappies, newborn clothes and 0-3 clothes. All is alarmingly pink! I just hope the new baby really is a girl!!!!

So now it just needs washing and putting away, and then in theory I'll be all ready for the baby. In theory!!!

turtle23 · 03/02/2008 18:42

Not for the squeamish, but how much would you like your birth experience to be like this... graphic, but lovely

tori32 · 03/02/2008 20:01

Forgot to say thanks for all your femur measurements, LO measured 33mm at 20wks so hopefully this is average and maybe won't be as big as dd. She had long legs at 20wks and still has them now

I have just sprung into action and am bidding for swaddle blankets on ebay. I think apart from the bits and bobs like lansinoh cream, breast pads etc that everything is in place. (Not due to organisation, but through having most things from the first time round).

Anyway, back to my bidding, take care and I can't wait for the next new arrival amongst us.

merryberry · 03/02/2008 20:16

we blitzed the missing bits today, all done, hurray. and got ds1 a scooter from the baby.

anyone else too large to sit still for long now? just abandoned a film 1/3 way through as need to move too much!

into see consultant tomorrow for results of gtt and blood tests. brother in law babysitting, so a nice break from routine for me. double hurray.

feeling every word of this description of 36 weeks!

OP posts:
derah · 03/02/2008 21:06

Merryberry - my perineum is doing what?! That baby in there is enormous! No wonder I'm so tired and feel so squashed! Also not surprising that movements are so much smaller now - the poor thing doesn't have space to move!

Bet the babies are as keen for this to be over as we are by now!

surprisedandexcitedmum · 04/02/2008 07:48

I have spent the weekend making sure both DP and I know how to fit the car seat.

Activity has been spurred on my 'show' on Saturday morning (I'm just coming up to 36 weeks). My sister s now, at last buying cot mattress so I can have the family moses basket, mother is finishing of blanket and I have been scrubbing floors.

All this and I bet she doesn't come for weeks!

littleducks · 04/02/2008 09:28

ooh, sounds exciting surprised!

i had the rescan prob in sainsburys on christmas eve, and have not used the flippin fast track since! what is it about supermarkets, i always feel like im about to collapse halfway through.

finally got dh to blow up birthing ball as i was always on it last time and have been whinging about back pain and a stubborn transverse or breech baby (not once head down) which dd things is brilliant.

timmyinatizzy · 04/02/2008 09:52

Woo hoo last Monday at work!

Preggers for you being a yummy mummy

fitnforty Happy Birthday for the other day.

Surprised A show? Will we be getting our 4th baby?

Derah Thats the reason I go to Sainsburys too. I look at all the other hassled mums (and dads) loading, unloading then loading shopping and pity them. Fasttrack is so easy, unless you get a re-scan. I haven't had one for a bit, so I'm probably due one.

My mum and dad came round for a roast yesterday, had to bribe them somehow . So I now have a cot built in our bedroom. Makes it feel even closer to the due date. I'm getting the bedding next week, but will have to hide it from the dsd's as I want blue stuff and they still have no clue that 'Junior' is a boy. I had a lovely moment at the weekend when both dsd's got to feel Junior moving about for the first time. They were fascinated as Junior had the hiccups so could actually see my tummy move. I had been reluctant to let them (and anyone else to that matter) feel my tummy. It felt odd having people touch something that I would hate people to touch without a baby inside. Still not overly keen on anyone touching it now.

Right better do some work today.
