Goodness me - I've missed loads! A new thread and a wedding on the horizon, very exciting!

Happy Birthday VS for yesterday (sorry it's late) hope you had a wonderful day.

How lovely getting married in a couple of weeks Scorpio - would LOVE to see photos afterwards [nosey kiwi emoticon] .

Saw midwife this morning and still measuring slightly small (27cm and I am 28 weeks tomorrow) so have to see the GP in 2 weeks time just for a check up etc. Also have been having rather bad stomach cramps at night (like bad period pains) and midwife told me to keep an eye on it as these symptoms can be a sign of early labour!! (cue heart palpitations and panic!) So now am having conniptions every time I have a cramp (although not much during the day - more in evening when I am relaxing ... anyone else experience this?). Otherwise I'm fine with baby moving well and blood pressure normal etc etc.

Had bloods taken today too, but no mention of the glucose test ... so I don't think I'll be having it for some reason.

How is everyone else? I appologise for not catching up on all the old thread and will have a quick read through this thread now - but am rather flat out in real life lately!!

Welcome to all newbies and hope all are well.

TMP x

TMP I am getting those cramps too, becuase they mostly come in the evenings I put them down to tiredness. A few times I have sent dh off to work with a warning to keep phone close by but can't see what else there is to do. Mine have been on and off for a month or more though so am relaxing now- are yours all recent?

TheMaskedPoster · 10/01/2008 10:39

hey Peachy ... mine have been happening for about the last 2 - 3 weeks quite regularly really ... I have been putting it down to the baby growing (head is down etc), but now the midwife had told me to 'take it easy'(easier said than done these days) and to keep an eye on it. I can't remember these cramps from first pregnancy (although that was about 4 years ago) - I just don't want to panic too much about them if I can help it.

Isn't time flying now Christmas has come and gone? It only seems like a few weeks ago that we all started chatting on the 'Due April 2008' thread .. and now here we are entering (or into) our 3rd Trimesters!

I know its scary how quick- I have 2 more MW appointments before 38 weeks!

I think the braxton hicks have gotten worse with each PG to be honest, but you really should take MW advice and rest where you can

Just got back from my 2nd scan (24 weeks now) and baby is perfect! So pleased! Baby was lying with head on my baldder to begin with, then did a few stretches for us and turned to face us! Lovely! Also found out my placenta is in the right place - so all is good! One happy bunny here!

Morning all! Welcome Sikkibam.
Happy Birthday for yesterday, VS.

Saw MW yesterday - and she said it was rare at this time of year to find a pregnant woman without sugar in her pee - something I tried to rectify immediately last night with mounds of chocolate. Only to find this morning when I went for shower that I had old chocolate smeared all over one boob. Nice.
She also said I could probably eat more salt as I keep getting terible cramp in my leg. So its all good news. (She also said the odd cigarette wasn't too bad, and living off bread alone was fine too. And she never weighs me. What a lovely MW!)

Good to hear Mum2b2BabyRoo - what lovely news.

Gosh how I would love to only have two midwife appointments left, I'm at the bloody hospital every two weeks grrrr.

DP's mum came over last night to have the kids and was here about an hour before he finally managed to get home, stuck in some poxy meeting so we didnt go to the hospital tour, just straight to the indian, but anyway, his mum has offered to pay half towards the loola and his dad has also said he'll give us some money towards what else we need, which tbh is just a cot!

She's desperate to know the sex though, kept saying if only she knew she could buy clothes for it bless her, I keep forgetting it's her first grandchild cos although DD&DS call them by their first names it's a very GPish relationship they have iyswim.

Hello all - Sagitta at your chocolate-coated boob.

Molly your pain sounds more like sciatica so breaststroke should be fine. I think backstroke is also fine as recommendation not to lie on your back (I still wake up on my back every morning, well, when I can sleep, anyway - anyone else already getting insomnia?) is due to chance of baby squishing your aorta which won't happen in water (as there's much less pressure from effective gravity). I wish I could go swimming! My pelvis feels like an old hinge that's been rusting in a tip for about twenty years.

Scorpio how are you feeling? We will be in Paris on our wedding anniversary (woohoo!) on your big day but I'll raise a plate of steak frites to you.

I haven't had my first MW appointment yet! I have to go to GP to get referred (at 25 weeks!). DD and I both have appointments tomorrow (she is still having ear trouble) so we are going to have our naughty caff breakfast again - can't wait.

Molly, my weight gain is out of control - 6lb since Christmas ! BUT I really wouldn't worry about it now - make sure you're getting enough calories every day and you can think about it later. You look a lovely size in the pics, I think you must just have been too skinny before!

Scampmum- am now craving steak! Bad scampmum LOL - will have to go all the way to the shops now. Damnit!

LOl at the choccy boobs- ds3 (TMI) has taken to expressing from me at 3am as he dids it hilarious- cant explain inappropriateness to him so have to live with it ...........

Thanks for welcoming me all of you Its nice to be able to chat to others about pregnancy.

Bainmarie, scan is next month, 13 Feb if i remember correctly.

I'm still avoiding thinking about the labour. Too scared by the thought of the scale of the pain i'll be experiencing. My older sister had complications with her first and i stayed in hospital with her. She had to be induced (she coped amazingly well in my opinion) but ended up requiring a caesarian. It was weird though. Each time the baby would sigh or whateva, I'd be out of my bed like a shot checking on her! My sister would be sound asleep. But it was a great experience. I only hope I'm as good with mine... Its an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THING when it's yr own.

Better do some work!!

Well, have just come back from physio appt and now am sporting two HUGE and odd looking support belts. Very attractive. They are comfy but makes me walk even more duckily.

molly - back pain is all counted as pelvic girdle pain as that whole area is affected apparently.

Lovely news mum2b

LOL at your boob sagitta! I could so imagine doing that

Siikibam - have you read the thread on how awful pregnancy is? Once you've read that, the labour part really isn't too much of a worry. At least its short, and at the end of it you won't be pregnant any more

Thanks Scampmum, just back from my swim and varied different strokes. It's so nice just even to tread water. Regarding my weight, I shoudn't really complain. Just before the pregnancy I weighed 53 kilos but 3 of those were still there from the pregnancy I mc'd. I'm lucky enough to eat a lot and not really put on weight but now that I'm 65 kilos it is just taking some getting used to! Still the most important thing is that my Doctor says I am now a nice healthy weight for being pregnant.

Sagitta: Even though I have never given birth before I think you're probaly right. Labour can only last so long right? I've been so grateful not to have any morning sickness since week 13 that I think I can cope with a day or two of intense pain. 7 weeks of nausea was endless. where is the the thread on how awful pregnancy is. It's not that bad...

Thank you for all the glucose test advice. Nobody's mentioned to me so I think I'll keep quiet - sounds dreadful!

Ellie - I've had two emotional and completely irrational outbursts this week, mainly directed at my dh. I find it really odd because normally when I get upset I can fully justify why. Right now I can't even convince myself that I have a right to be upset. I can't believe how understanding my dh is sometimes.

Molly - I have a friend who was really slim when she got pregnant and she put on about 15 kgs in the first 20 weeks which was more than I put on in my whole pregnancy first time round. However she looked amazing and is still slimmer than me now (she had baby about 3 months ago). Anyway, my point is that I don't think you should worry about it too much. Also, I remember reading somewhere that breast stroke legs aren't great no matter whether you have back pain or not because of something or another - sorry, a bit vague .

I can't remember who was reading Baby Whisperer but I thought it all sounded so easy and logical when I read it before DD arrived - then when I actually came to trying it, it was impossible!

I was speaking to a colleague this morning whose wife had triplets in December. He was showing me photos and they're gorgeous! How do they do it though? - I've no idea. He said they all have colic and cry from 5pm until 2am every day ... but you should have seen him. He was beaming and his love and excitement about it all was so infectious.

Sorry - I'm going on and on in this post ...

I have a question. With DD I used a manual breast pump and swore I would get an electric one next time around. But they're SO expensive. Can anyone recommend what the best one is to get?

Report
sagitta · 10/01/2008 15:33

I swore that too, NEM - how much are they? I haven't looked yet.

Just found out that a friend is pregnant. She's impossibly gorgeous and glamorous, and I know she will be looking stunning with a tidy bump, while I look terrible, fat and unkempt. And that's all I can think abut her being pregnant. What a horrible cow I am...

lol Sagitta!

NEM I bought the expensive breast bump last time around the one they use in the hospital pump I had i gave up breast feeding after a few days as my milk never came in and Max was going mental! my sister had the same one for her DD and said it was excellent! you can get them cheaper on ebay

Oh Sagitta ... don't you worry. By the time she's in the final puffy stages (in more ways than one), you'll have a lovely baby to play with .

I had a wee look on ebay this afternoon and you can get electric pumps on there for around about £50. Most of them seem to have been used a few times but are otherwise boxed and good as new.

I think I'll wait until I know how feeding is going before I invest anyway, was just wondering. If DD2 feeds anything like DD1 did, I can't really see me keeping it up for very long. How do you spend an hour and a half feeding a wee baby when you've got a toddler running around demanding your attention? Strap baby to your body?? Oh for a ten minute guzzler ... please!!?

Just treated myself to this sling on the recommendation of my sister who has been using ehrs since November- we do a lot of camping and buggies and wet grass (and full cars!) don't always mix so a good sling is an essential for us.

Baby has his first trip planned for end of may so needs to be fully equipped LOL
