Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pk616 · 11/01/2008 14:13

ruva - that was rotton of the peep who sold the crib to you, they should have told you if a piece was missing, I suppose they might not of known, I shouldn't be so harsh! I bet that put a bit of a grey cloud over your day didn't it! I hope mothercare do come up with the goods for you.

Again, eat more chocolate ladies, you are not going to get a better excuse!!!

blue - Sorry to hear of your fall. Hope your DD's head feels better and DP isn't too grumpy. The crying, it's those hormones again, once you start that's it isn't it! I hope you feel happier soon. I shouldn't think you'll need Anti-D as you fell on your knees not your belly or your back but give your MW a bell and ask her to be sure. The only way I can find to naturally increase ferritin levels is through increasing iron intake and I can see how the absorbtion of iron is gonna be difficult in your case. If you've been eating all the right things and you've been having your trimonthly injections the only thing I can say is get that infusion as soon as, 'cause I don't think there's anything else you can do (although I'll admit I am no professional) I have had a little look around and I can't find ANYTHING about low ferritin levels leading to Postpartum haemorrhage infact I stumbled across a midwifes comment that it was folklore! I'm not saying that you should ignore what your MW has said to you but I do think you shouldn't let it panic you.

Widget - I'm already on the raspberry leaves! I've heard that actual raspberries are good too and I figured it couldn't hurt to add a few to my diet anyway, he he he! You'll probably beat me though 'cause family history dictates no BH and no labour until at least 41 wks. boo hiss! mind you I've also heard that it's the family history of the father that dictates when a baby is born so maybe I'll be in luck! (DP's sister was 5 weeks early -already passed that marker! -and DP was on the day)

lees - just over 2 wks to go, you lucky lucky thing! I'm excited for you!

cosima - hello and welcome. due the day after me so it looks like I'll be racing you too!!! And hey don't cus pink it's my favourite colour (although I do not like baby pink, way too wishy washy and makes me look ill if I wear it!) Your sense of style only goes out the window when you have a baby if you let it! I intend to allow style to have a short holiday while I learn to juggle everything else. I'll call it back once I know which way's up again!

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 14:16

mana - yay shopping!!!!! I bludy luv it!!! Get out there lass, join the melee!!!

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 14:25

Oh and possible Midlands meet up news - ish - I can only do Coventry / Warwick / Leamington / Stratford / Birmingham / Wolverhampton / Solihull and around those places if we are still gonna do it, 'cause I'm 36 weeks today and DP isn't happy with me going any further out, even if he comes with me, because he can't drive

jooseyfruit · 11/01/2008 14:31

Hope everyone is coping o.k, and the new mums are enjoying their gorgeous babies. Am very , cannot wait to get this child out.
Head fully engaged, have been getting loads of BH, especially after nipple twiddling!!

Have just eaten an entire huge bag of walkers chilli sensations (that counts as spicy food, right?), and am now waiting for my raspberry leaf tea to stew, whilst peeling a fresh pineapple (half price @Tesco)

Can't get DH to oblige on the sex front, did offer him a lap dance the other night, the look on his face was priceless , needless to say he turned me down!

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 14:35

Joosey - He turned you down... outragious! blindfold him and hand cuff him to the bed may be you can get him to oblige that way!

Slacker · 11/01/2008 14:38

Pobletsmum - I too went to Sainsburys today and bought a bunch of stuff that I probably don't need, like disposable nappies and another birth ball and more terry sleepsuits, but at least I feel prepared now! House is a tip but plasterers finish next week so plenty of time to clean up before the baby, I hope.

It's snowing here! Better than the rain this morning, but both make me glad that the baby's still cosy inside me and I don't have to drag the poor thing out on the school run - am I kidding myself by thinking that February is nearly spring?!

Oh, and it's turned breech. Thought it had, and both midwives had a good feel and confirmed it. But I know from previous pregnancies that it has plenty of space to turn back so I'm not going to give it much thought until I'm nearer 40 weeks. Wouldn't change my homebirth plans.

And CONGRATS TO MINI!!! Two sets of twins in one day is fantastic, and it's fabulous that it went so well for both mums! Hope you get them home soon.

rozzyraspberry · 11/01/2008 14:55

Hi everyone - welcome to cosima - I'm due a boy on the 9th too.

Leesmum - has your lo moved or is he still back-to-back. I've been kneeling with my front resting on a footstool and it's much comfier than all fours but my body's still in the same position if you know what I mean.

I now have 4 weeks to go and only one more week at work - hurrah - really can't wait to finish - especially when I'm getting phone calls at home on my days off!!

I know what you all mean about hormones. DS2 started nursery school on Tuesday. Despite the fact that ds1 has been at the same nursery for the last 2 years and I know it's a great place, and the fact that I've been leaving ds2 at playgroup since May last year, I was in floods of tears after dropping him off. Cried all the way to work - just a bit over emotional at the moment I think! I think part of it is because I feel like he's been my little baby for the last 3 years and now we're going to have another I'm worried how he'll cope. Especially when you hear things about this 'middle child' syndrome - please tell me that's nonsense. Anyway after being at work all week I was happy to drop them both off today so I could get some tidying up done.

Has anyone heard the weights of eggs twins?

Jo9977 · 11/01/2008 15:00

Yay! Fantastic news and congratulations to Egg and Mini

Sorry to those who've had bad days and hope it all picks up...really hits you when you least expect it, doesn't it?

I'm pretty much the same as you PK for the midlands meet up, don't think DH would want me travelling too far although I quite fancied Cheltenham. What's the easiest to get too and if we're gonna do it, it needs to be soon....

Went for my first NCT class today which was great. Turns out the lady leading it was at Uni with me - only 21 years ago...

tyaca · 11/01/2008 16:03

our hatched list grows ever longer!

many congrats and love to Mini and Egg. Look forward to hearing from you both. nice long birth stories please....

And many thanks to mini's friend (sorry - forgot your name- jam?) for keeping us updated.

welcome to cosmina. have you seen our london meet up date? a few of us are getting together for lunch next thursday. the link is on page 6, or something, will track it down. or it can be found in the meet ups section. will be good to have another south londoner, as i fear them north/ west'ers are taking over

(other newbies, you're most welcome too, but confess i cant remember where you're based)

poblet, ty for nappies//sainsburys tip off. must get on it this weekend. my mum, bless her, reckons she's been buying a pack of nappies everytime she does a grocery shop!

pk and the other blue person (mana?? sorry, my brain a bit mushy), sorry to hear you're feeling a bit blue. this is a strange time i think, lots going on physically and emotionally too. i think we all deserve medals and hugs for our great incubation work.

beansprout - just to let you know that i did some preg yoga for the first time on monday and afterwards i almost slept thru the night. one wake up only and a properly deep sleep. i know you're busy with your LO as your due date approaches, but just to say i'd highly recommend. saying that, it alwways makes me smile to see your oddly timed posts! makes me feel like i'm not the only one slightly out of sync with the rest of the world at the moment

tyaca · 11/01/2008 16:08

and while i remember... is anyone else feeling a bit freaked by the feeling of their baby moving at the moment?

i dont know, but i used to find it really wonderful but now its just a bit scary?? maybe because the baby is much bigger and also feels a lot harder and more definite.

alkar · 11/01/2008 17:07

Saw midwife today, baby is still measuring on the large side but everything else OK.

Was told there is no way the birthing pool would be ready to use at the local hospital so that option has gone now. Disapointed really as I did want to try it. Could try a different hospital but I work at this one and know where I'm going plus can ask my collegues for help if I need enything!

Lucyand2 · 11/01/2008 17:08

Congratulations Egg, I'm so pleased for you!

Ginger - Wel done for coping with the crappy doctors and hurray for the midwives. It is great to read your birth story!

I want to hurry up and give birth as I feel like I'm walking around with a bowling ball between my legs, have been waddling really badly! My ligaments boing whenever I walk so it is most uncomfortable. My Mum reckons baby should arrive soon from the way I've been walking and at the moment I can't wait to sleep on my front again.
I've also discovered that my sister is in the very early stages of pregnancy which is great news.
I've also got my house straight at last! Just need the cot sorting now....

Lucyand2 · 11/01/2008 17:09

Just realised I can't write or spell today

beansprout · 11/01/2008 17:19

I know what people mean when they talk about bigger movements or bowling balls! It can't be right to be walking around with someone's head in your pelvis now surely...? I am the archtypal pregnant lady, groaning everytime I do something simple like stand up or try something really adventurous like turning over in bed!

Ty - I did yoga last time and it really helped but I just don't have any babysitters and so can't get to any classes. Was relying quite heavily on ds having a few days at nursery to chill out and maybe have a massage but the pox put paid to that!

Rozzy - I am with you on the hormone front. I have been leaving ds in childcare for over 2 years now but was weeping every time I dropped him off before xmas. Roll on your last week of work though - woo hoo!

Welcome to Cosima - hope you can come to the meet up! And thanks too to Jam for keeping us posted on the mini front.

Have decided that I am going to sleep on my front on principle for 6 months after this baby is born!!

cosima · 11/01/2008 17:21

sorry pk616 I like pink, but it doesn't suit me and all the nusing nighties i have seen are pink for mums.

I'm planning my giving birth outfit too, gonna get some Tabio leg warmers specially for the occasion.

Just been to my ante natal class, I'm convinced that Contractions can't be that painful. Am I completely deluded? I had a tooth out without anaesthetic when I was in early pregnancy, it was on an abcess and a student did it. It took four hours, surely labour is not worse than that? Please??

cosima · 11/01/2008 17:22

Beansprout ,where is the meet up?

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 17:39

Jo - I've just realised you're due the same day as me! only 28 days to go!!!! I've had a look on the map and the most logical place is Solihull but I've just realised I've got no money for petrol and cake until the 23rd - is that cutting it a bit to close? Also, is it only you and I?

Sarah, Lucy you two don't live too far away, do you wanna meet up with Jo and me? or would the 23rd be cutting it too fine for you too!

Slacker - OOh I wish we had some pretty snow! All we have here in grubby brum is rubbish rain! Yep, you're kidding yourself about February. It notorious for being the crapest month of winter!

tyaca - some of the babies movements are a tad on the shocking side! I just had one that moved the chair I'm sitting on, very freaky!

alkar - sorry about the birthing pool. But how do they know you won't be able to use it on the day? have I missed a specific induction date or somthing? surely they can't predict that kind of thing! I dunno how these things work, it just sounds odd to me!

lucy - congratulations to your sister and the completion of your house sort out. You may not be able to write or spell today but I understood every word so I don't know how badly you did!

beansprout · 11/01/2008 17:43

Cosima - meet up thread is here. It's at a Spaghetti House near Marble Arch on Thursday at 12.30pm.

SallyInYorkshire · 11/01/2008 17:50

Blue - I agree with PK I don't think that low ferritin causes post partum bleeding in itself. Ferritin is just a sign of how much iron you have it is not involved in blood clotting AFAIK. It's more a case of, if you have low iron stores to start off with, and then if you happen to have a post partum bleed as well, they may be slightly more inclined to transfuse you/ take you to theatre.

That's what I was told anyway, am no expert but suggest you check with your Dr.

Also my midwife told me that unless the Hb is less than 10 she does not think there is anything much to worry about.

Also - can you really not take iron in any form? what about ferrous fumarate? I heard that it may be easier to take than ferrous sulphate so if you have not tried this it is worth giving it a go. Also what PK said about eating a diet high in iron is definitely worth a go.

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 17:52

cosima - you have a fantastic pain threshold, a 4 hour tooth extraction with no anaesthetic, my god I know I would have climbed the walls, right after I'd kicked the dental student in the groin! Hats off to you lass! Sounds like you should be ok for labour, not that I''ve had a contraction in my life to know how painful it is! You're right about the pastel pink nigthtwear though, I just haven't even looked it's all washed out pink and crappy tones of lilac, I think most people look bad in those colours!

beansprout · 11/01/2008 18:08

Cosima - there is no one definition of how painful labour is so no-one can tell you how you will find it, (sorry!). My mum was adamant that it was no worse than cramp but that was not my experience (but then again, I had a few problems). My best advice would be to keep an open mind and just do what you need to do. If someone only needs G&A, that's great but if someone needs something a bit stronger, that's fine too. It's not a case of being brave or even pain thresholds, it's just a case of different experiences... and then you get to hold your child for the first time which is just amazing!

sarahmikeandharry · 11/01/2008 18:33

pk 16= would love to meet up but think it may be a bit risky going to far- where is the meet planned for and also i will have DS on wed as no nursery that day!!!!!!

Let me know details i can make a decision and let u know

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 18:57

sarah - well, so far I've said Solihull (as in town centre) because it's sort of in the middle between Jo and myself and the date is only the first day that I've got money it doesn't have to be then exactly but your DS would be most welcome in any case. It's all still up for discussion but between us we need to come up something reasonably soon. If you've got any ideas let us know I'm sure btween us we can come up with a good arrangement for all of us.

sarahmikeandharry · 11/01/2008 20:52

solihull is fine by me!!!

Ds is a good boy on the whole so shouldn't be a problem,

Keep me informed and will see what we can do!!!!

ayrshirelolo · 11/01/2008 22:22

Hiya all!
Wow, what a chatty lot! Just took me ages to read through everything and now i'm too tired to say much except hello! and welcome to Cosmina! and i'm gobsmacked about 2 sets of twins on same day!!!!
My doc's surgery phoned me this week to say to pick upa prescription for iron tablets, and i've been taking them since but haven't yet spoken to midwife to find out exactly what my levels are, but thanks for all the info and advice! Pk your list of foods is roughly what i eat all the time, especially the green leafy stuff so hope my levels aren't too low! Midwife on monday should tell me more though!!
Anyway, take care all! lolo x
