Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
beansprout · 11/01/2008 09:16

Wow, congratulations Mini!! And what brilliant weights for twins! No wonder your bump was big!! Really love the names too.

PK - sorry to hear you were down yesterday. Please don't feel you can't come on here and say how you feel, especially on days when you are feeling down. We are not fairweather friends and preg/birth/babies are a difficult business so please, please come on here and let us support you when you need us to.

Well, another bad night for me insomnia wise means I am tired again, and ds is being stroppy too. Oh good, stroppy mum and toddler double whammy - 'cos this doesn't have the makings of a long day then....

manamana · 11/01/2008 09:17

Woweeee, 4 babies in one day! Jambuttie thanks for the update and send our love to Mini. What an inspiration - 2 x sets of twins naturally delivered and all happy and healthy .

Sarah, great news that you have an allbeit conditional OK to go ahead with Homebirth. Meant to say my friend wanted a VBAC home birth but had piles and her Dr said she couldn't in case one bled and she hameorraged, she decided to go 'against medical advice' and had a v smooth home birth - she also lives 5 mins from hosp. There are risks with every option but its your choice to decide what you want and which risks you're happy with - go girl!

Blue - my Hb count was down to 10.8 which my MW said was just in the range where they start to treat with Iron tablets (was 12 in first set of tests), can't see a Ferritin result on there unless its under an odd abbreviation. Sorry if being completely ignorant but can you drink Spatone - iron fortified water - lots of people have recommended it to me instead of iron tablets. If not PK's advice is pretty comprehensive - thats fantastic, thank you PK - am trying to up my intake as lost lots of blood last time and felt awful for weeks after birth so want to get levels as high as poss to start with.

I wonder what news we'll hear today...

Bean - Thank You, I know we're not here just for good news but yesterday was such a joyful day I really didn't want to distract from it so I posted my own thread of misery and some ladies (and a fella) came along and shook me out of it! Basically I'd measured up the bedroom so I could figure out how I was going to get the cotbed that I wanted to fit in there with us as we don't have a second bedroom atm (awaiting a housing transfer which is taking a very bloody long time - I rang the housing people too and cried at the woman on reception, poor woman! she was only a temp aswell!) After measuring up I found that it is gonna be a bit damned hard to fit the cotbed in and I really really want that cotbed (if I can't have a nursary and people keep giving things to us that we need but didn't choose, I thought I should at least be able to have something that I had picked out!) So I got extremly emotional over it and with DP at work it just spiralled down to include a whole lot of other crap! I was a hysterical mess to put it plainly!
I've now pulled myself together and I'm determined to have my cotbed so I'm re-examining the entire contents of the house to rearrange and throw out stuff inorder to fit it in here! I WILL HAVE MY COTBED!!!!!!
Sorry to hear you're facing a long day. I hope that at the least your toddlers mood improves as the day goes by.

mana - My pleasure, if some of the information I store in my head for no apparent reason helps some folks out I am more than happy to pass it on! Now go and eat some chocolate!!

CountTo10 · 11/01/2008 09:54

Yippeee lots more babies!!! Congrats to both egg and mini - puts my scaredycat thoughts about labour into total perspective!!! What an inspiration you both are!! Can't wait to see piccies and love the names!!!

beansprout · 11/01/2008 09:59

Pk - I know how you feel. We are in a pretty small flat for 4 people. I know that a lot of people have housing conditions that are a lot worse but I am also in the business of basically having to throw out a lot of stuff in order to fit this baby in. Didn't have a nursery to decorate last time either (for different reasons) but hey, I guess it saves a lot of money!!
Not great when the nesting instinct is thwarted though. I tend to displace my feelings and get really pi$$ed off at the state of the carpet, or something!

manamana · 11/01/2008 10:11

PK - know what you mean about wanting to CHOOSE something for your own baby. Its so lovely when people give you things that you feel rubbish for being even a tiny bit grumpy about not choosing it yourself but picking out things that you want is a really lovely part of this whole process. I am bit fed up that can't go shopping - only need a couple of bits on top of what we already had for ds but its rubbish not being able to get to the shops - there are loads of shops that i KNOW do baby clothes but not online - Tesco, Sainsburys, George, H&M, New Look, Gap Dh says he'll go and get stuff which is lovely but just not quite the same.

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 10:26

Bean - Yup the money saving aspect is fabulous 'cause we aint got any!! that became part of the 'other crap' that got tangled up in my hissy fit! I totally blame the hormones. I'm usually a pretty practical minded person and I see a problem and work my brain cells into a frazzle to sort it out. But not yesterday! I just could not see past my initial feelings of dissapointment. It's just so not like me! I made really light work of the washing up though

mana - no it totally isn't the same! I feel for you! Is SPD keeping you in the house? Asda definately could provide you with a wheelchair or a scooter so you can have a look around. Your Dh can go instore and bring it out to the car for you so you wouldn't have to walk anywhere.
I don't know about the other stores but you could try shopmobility. I know that at the bullring you can park up by the shopmobility place and pick up a scooter to wizz around on and then return it when you go back to your car.

alkar · 11/01/2008 10:47

Bluedomino - your Hb is not that low, you need to get your MCV result aswell which is done as part of your full blood count. If this is normal then your Hb could just be low due to increased blood volume which effectively 'waters down' all your blood analytes. Your ferritin is low but again can be attributed to increased blood volume, you need to get iron and transferrin results to give a better picture.

Congrats to Egg and Mini - both sets born on the same day, wow!

widgetsmummy · 11/01/2008 11:23

yay yay yay! more babies! congrats to Egg and Mini! can't wait to hear the stories, sounds like Egg's was really quick!

went to see Enchanted last night with some girls from work - its was so cute! only got a few raised eyeborws walking into the cinema with my pillow!

have decided that hospital bag will be packed over the weekend, mind over matter, this afternoon's job is collate a final list/shopping list (which can handily be done from the sofa with the fire on)!

I want my baby!!!!!

Pk616 · 11/01/2008 11:41

Widget - me too!!!!! I'm growing quite impatient atm!

ruva · 11/01/2008 12:18

Congrats to egg and mini,
this is all exciting.
Pk i am sorry that you were down yestereday, i bought a second hand crib only to assemble it last week and find that the bolt which makes it swing is missing my dh just gave me a look and did not comment.
thanks for your diet suggestions thats what i need to be eating. i am waiting for my nesting to bin a lot of things out.
have a shining day ladies.

widgetsmummy · 11/01/2008 12:28

Ruva - we did this too - bought second hand cot bed from ebay and bolts were missing. It was a Mothercare one so we asked them and they provided us with a bolts pack free of charge! Do you know who made it? They might be able to do the same thing.

bluedomino · 11/01/2008 12:37

Congats mini.

PK616 I'm having your horrible yesterday, today. Got really dizzy carrying DD and fell down onto my knees and hit her head on the chimney breast. I shouted for DP, poor bugger had been on nights and only been asleep a few hours. I haven't stopped crying since, but she seems ok now. It is only the ferritin that the midwives are worried about as apparently it can cause another haemorrage, I was in surgery for 2 hours with one last time, so really want to avoid that. Yep, I do have pernicious aneamia so am relying on jabs to keep that up but its impossible to get GP to give it to you more than every 3 months. I have been on a serious healthy eating campaign to try to get my iron up so I'm a bit disappointed they have dropped again. Now I'm wondering whether I should have a anti D jab after falling over? Anyone know?

ruva · 11/01/2008 12:41

Hey widge, thanks for the advice the crib is originally from mothercare so when i get energy will pop in. i have also bought a new matress which is a perfect fit.

widgetsmummy · 11/01/2008 12:50

PK - you're 2 days ahead of me - I'll race you (now where did I stash that raspeberry leaf tea.....)

Ruva - you have to be slightly economical with the truth - ie. we said we'd bought a cot and the bolts were missing, no one ever asked us for proof of purchase. I think sometimes they charge about £5 for the bolts packs but our store just ordered it for us for free.

leesmum · 11/01/2008 12:56

Mini huge well done on the safe arrival of your twins, i'm so thrilled for you and egg, what excellent births lets just hope you two have set the trend for the rest of us.

Thanks also to your good mate jambuttie for letting us all know x

Bluedomino my HB levels went down to 8.9 so i was put on 600mg of iron a day, i went to see mw this morning and last blood results were 11.2 so she is happy for me to drop 2 tablets and just stick to 1 a day..thank god.. dont know about the other one though, well baby is now 3/5ths engaged and doing well, i cant believe i only have just over two weeks to go, am getting excited now

cosima · 11/01/2008 13:06

hi, can i had myself to the list? Due 9th Feb boy, first, south London.

By the way congrats to new babies. What did Egg call her twins ? I can't find the birth announcement?

And anyone know what Queen elizabeth hospital in Woolwich is like?

widgetsmummy · 11/01/2008 13:14

hi cosima - I think the twins are Jacob and Rebecca

leesmum · 11/01/2008 13:14

hi cosima and welcome, you've joined us at a very exciting time!!!

cosima · 11/01/2008 13:19

thanks. Jacob and Rebecca are lovely names. I'm finding mumsnet a bit too addictive now I'm on mat leave, wishing I could get to the nesting stage and wondering why most nursing nighties are in pink. Does your skin and hair colouring and all your stle sense change when you have a baby?

widgetsmummy · 11/01/2008 13:23

you can have a hair style and a newborn baby???? wow! was thinking of cutting my shoulder length hair short again (I do this about once a year) but am scared it will be annoying if I can't tie it back and forget about it.

pobletsmum · 11/01/2008 13:37

Thanks jambuttie for the updates, and as for you, mini - CONGRATULATIONS at last! It's so uplifting to hear your happy news. Very well done!

-Bargain update-
Just got home from Sainsburys with several packs of nappies in sizes 1,2 & 3, a mix of Huggies & Pampers - all 1/3 off! Has been mentioned before but worth saying again - offer finishes 15th Jan.

Sainsburys selling their gym balls (fine as birthing ball) for £2.99

Got leaflet through post for ASDA baby sale 14th-28th Jan with Nappy Wrapper for £10 (I found this very useful last time), Tommee Tippee breast pump for £10 (see previous negative comments re small tube, although I must have 'dainty' nipples cos it was very comfortable & successful for me!) & various other offers.

I do love a bargain, so please everyone add a note here if you see one.

I hope you are all able to enjoy the rest of the day!

manamana · 11/01/2008 13:55

Shopmobility, Thanks PK what a brilliant idea - hadn't though of that. Keep thinking its just temporary but actually has been about 3 months now! - have just looked and portsmouth gunwharf quays has a mobility thing - am gonna ring and then maybe we can go on Sunday!!!
welcome cosima - i too am slightly disturbed by the idea that i have to go for pastel pink if i invest in a 'proper' nursing nighty thing, am gonna stick with my manly PJ shirt style blue ones from M&S and some 'stain-friendly' black pjs I picked up in H&M a while ago.
Warning for 1st timers on hair issues. I had shoulder length hair when ds was born, after 3 months I planned my first hair appt, breast milk expressed, dh lodged in cafe round corner from hairdressers etc. I went in and said 'cut it all off' and refused to compromise on a bob, young trendy bloke hairdresser set to my hair with razor and i came out with some parts of my hair only about an inch long and hated it, dh's face was a picture - particularly as i discovered i had masses of grey hair hiding underneath my long hair which was all now exposed - it was truly hideous and really affected me during a time when i was feeling pretty low anyway!

manamana · 11/01/2008 13:57

meant to say, at the time i thought that a new hairstyle would make me more of a 'mum' - new-mum loopiness is much worse than pregnancy-brain syndrome!
