Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
beansprout · 12/01/2008 15:29

Lordy, this nesting business is hard work. Not sure I am actually up to it. Came home to find that dh had moved some stuff around, including some shelves which need sorting. I now have a huge pile of stuff to sort through while he has to go and look for a DVD player, NOW. So, that's me with ds again.... I NEED A BREAK!!!!!!

How are all our twins? Ladle, Mini, Egg?

manamana · 12/01/2008 15:30

hi all. hope everyone feeling OK despite bowling ball experiences, low iron and babies turning - the movements ARE getting more freaky, they also feel more violent now that the limbs are bigger!
Am panicking myself a bit re sudden big blob of gunk in my pants that i keep thinking might be a show (sorry if tmi). Have started a thread in pregnancy to see if lots of seasoned pros will tell me its just gunk or that even if it is a show it can still be a way off yet! Only 35 weeks and still have huge mountain of washing/ironing and my shop mobility trip out tomorrow!!!!!

beansprout · 12/01/2008 15:33

Oh blimey, I am on great blob of gunk watch too but didn't have a show last time so can't have a TMI type discussion with you. Hope you get some advice soon.

manamana · 12/01/2008 15:40

have had one reassuring post but am off to get some ironing done! Have managed to plough my way through WAY too many nuts while I've been sat here

beansprout · 12/01/2008 15:45

Would I be right in thinking that a show appears when you start to dilate (as it is the cervix plug after all)? And given that we can walk around at 1-2cm dilated for yonks, it doesn't by any means, indicate that something is about to happen.

She says, with all the serentiy of wisdom of someone who doesn't have a show in her pants at the moment!!

manamana · 12/01/2008 15:51

i guess it must be, unless a severe head-butt from baby just knocks it out! From my mangled knowldge I'm pretty sure you dilate a bit quite early on in 2nd pg. Have got midwife appt on Thursday so will ask and continue obsessing until then! - you'll have noticed I haven't managed to drag my butt from this chair to iron nor have I stopped eating nuts! Gonna have a quick flick thru active convos and then get up - honest...

beansprout · 12/01/2008 15:55

I know, I know.... I can't get away either! Am even embroiled in a discussion about how I don't fancy the Cbeebies presenters..!

Jambuttie · 12/01/2008 16:45

mini's coming home 2day with her wee bundles

pobletsmum · 12/01/2008 17:24

Fab news jambuttie! Hope we'll hear from her when she feels up to it.

A possible show manamana - how exciting! I seem to recall that having a show doesn't mean labour is immintent, or that you need to do anything, unlike waters breaking, when you have to inform midwife in case of risk of infection. Is that right? (Checking for my own benefit too for when the time comes)

DH has installed the car seat in our car. He says we might as well keep it there cos there's no space in our filthy dusty messy building site house. It isn't in the way, and will give DS a chance to get used to sharing the back seat, I suppose.

Thought of another thing for the hospital bag, but can't remember whether it's been said before, sorry: a couple of bottles of isotonic energy drinks in sports cap bottles (Tesco do their own tasty cherry one for 39p). They can double up as a way to ease pain when having a wee in the first hours/days after baby born - rinse very well & refill bottle with lukewarm water and squirt (downwards, not aiming up at yourself IYSWIM) as you 'go'.

alkar · 12/01/2008 17:58

PK - the birthing pool has a leak and a new one has been ordered but will take at least 3 months to be installed - IME the hospital don't do these things quickly so it is defo out. Just have to stay in the bath at home for as long as possible!!

Lucyand2 · 12/01/2008 18:00

Just popped on to say I'm feeling dreadful today, really faint and dizzy. I've also been feeling slightly nauseous
I know it's probably just one of those pregnancy things but I can't help but worry

beansprout · 12/01/2008 19:47

How are you feeling Lucy? Have you been resting today or have you done a bit too much? I find that I can't do v much at all at the moment. Have done a lot today and feel really rough now with severe bump ache.

If you are concerned though, please call your MW.

rozzyraspberry · 12/01/2008 20:04

Hi all!

I agree with what others have said about a show. Doesn't mean labour is imminent and you don't have to do anything if you get one. I've never had what I would consider a 'show'. First sign for me with both the boys was blood when I wiped after going to the loo (sorry if tmi). Negative of this is that if you phone the hospital and tell them there's been blood they ask you to go straight in. First time round the consultant told me it was due to erosion of the cervix - had ds 14 hours later. Didn't bother phoning second time round as I knew what it was!

Glad to hear mini is getting home so soon - hopefully the rest of the twins will get home soon too!

rozzyraspberry · 12/01/2008 20:09

Oh and forgot to say mama I've had quite a few clumps of stuff coming out over the last few weeks but just normal colour and not smelly (again sorry if tmi!). I think it's normal at this stage in pregnancy (am 36 weeks) although I haven't had it in previous pregnancies. Just one of the joys of pregnancy!!

tyaca · 12/01/2008 21:40

ahhhh... cyberspace and the joy of all this TMI . there's very little dignity to this pregnancy thing.

so here come my tmi... boobs started leaking today (well, boob, just the one) and i confess i found it freaky. its that shift from my body being there to serve (wrong word but nearest i can come up with) me to being there for another.

lucy i am sorry to hear you're feeling unwell. i'm no expert, but i cant help but think that dizzy and faint merits a call to your MW? i hope you feel a bit better.

ty jambuttie for update. looking forward to hearing from mini.

ah, another rock and roll saturday night, i'm just off to .... errrr.... hmmmm.... check the chat section of MN crazy times

ayrshirelolo · 12/01/2008 21:50

Evening ladies!! yeah, there is no dignity at all by this point in labour! and if i remember rightly it just gets worse..... ! As far as as i know you don't have to worry too much about an early show, especially second time round as labour can still be weeks away. Would mention it to midwife at next appointment though, manamana!! hope it's nothing to worry about!
Lucy i would agree you should maybe give someone a phone just for reassurance, could be your blood pressure? are you ok otherwise? take care of yourself!
lol at a rock and roll saturday night, tyaca, i'm wondering how early i can go to bed!!! might even have a bath first.... oooo! exciting!!! take care all, lolo x

leesmum · 13/01/2008 09:05

morning ladies, i had a fantastic nights sleep last night and Ds didn't get up until 8!!!! thats about as big of a lie in as i'm gonna get for a while

I'm very jealous of you all meeting up but i think you'll all have to get a move on otherwise it'll be a mother and baby meet-up.

Rozzy baby is still back to back unfortunately, i am still doing the all fours and sitting on a chair the wrong way round but its not doing an awful lot the mw didn't seem too concerned about it as it's my 2nd baby how are you getting on with shifting your lo?

Lucy how are you feeling today? you might be having a hormone surge which would explain feeling a bit sickly, take care x

Manamana any more developments overnight? are you still on knicker watch?

Jambuttie glad to hear that mini is home at last, give her lots of love from us all x

Ayreshirlolo iron tablets are yuck! if you can, take each one with a pint of water to stop you getting constipated, it really does work even though that much water plays havoc with your bladder!

Beansprout how is your Ds doing? i have got this to come yet thankfully my Ds has never had anything worse than a cold. Has the itching calmed down now and does calamine lotion really help?

Here's a little story to make you all smile.. i have been trying to explain to Ds all about new babies and what happenes when they get here, anyway at my mums the other day Ds stuck his finger right in my mums boob and said "have you got any milk in there grandma?" my mums face was a picture she had a house full as well, 3 is a very funny age to be

Has anyone heard off egg? hope she and the babies are ok, and ladle and ginger how are you doing with your lo's? big hugs for all the babies xxxxx

My sister is coming round in a bit to take Ds out for the day, i had planned to do some major cleaning but i might see whats on telly instead, that's really the worst thing i could do!! if i had no laptop or telly i'd get loads done..

morningglory · 13/01/2008 10:18

Morning All. I'm in a great mood as have just finished meeting with the new Nanny/Housekeeper. I was a bit embarassed at the state of the house (been barely cleaned for the past 3 weeks, as I can barely bend over). I kept apologizing to her, hoping that she doesn't turn around and run.

Great news on the hatchings. How are all the new mummies and babies doing?

Rozzy: I wouldn't worry too much, either as 2nd babies engage and turn much later than first ones.

Ayreshirlolo: I've been forced to take 2 iron tablets a day, after refusing to take any because they make me really ill, also. My HG came back at 8.9 and they said either I take the pills, or they would give me IV iron 3 times a week. Ugggg. I'm puzzled because I eat lots of the non-animal sources of iron, and red meat 1ce a week. I guess I just don't absorb iron easily, so should just eat steaks twice daily.

Beansprout: Is there anyone you know whose kids have already had chicken pox who would be glad to have your DS for a couple of hours? I did that with my DS when he had chicken pox.

tyaca: I've had the feeling that my boobs have been leaking, but haven't been able to confirm as it usually happens when I'm splashing in the swimming pool with DS. DS can't wait for me to start breastfeeding, and has requested a glass of breastmilk when my milk comes in. Great...made me feel quite bovine.

PS: I hear that oral sex (with swallowing) is a better stimulus of labour (made DH very happy to hear that one).

leesmum · 13/01/2008 10:30

Hi morningglory, lucky you having some extra help around the house

And i can tell you now that i won't be passing the last piece of info onto Dp i dont care how bad things get no no no not ever lol

lailasmum · 13/01/2008 10:37

Lucyand2-I have had a few of these weird dizzy days. The last one was about 3 weeks ago, my mum took one look at me and told me to go to bed and she would look after my dd. Always feel a bit different afterwards, bigger or bump has changed so maybe growing or something? They usually pass in a few hours though.

SallyInYorkshire · 13/01/2008 10:49

with swallowing???!!!!!!! ewwww no I'd rather be induced?

SallyInYorkshire · 13/01/2008 11:38

and there should definitely not be a question mark at the end of that last sentence!!!

bluedomino · 13/01/2008 14:16

manamana, I think the mucous plug keeps regenerating itself, and you tend to get a lot of gunky stuff this close to the end.
Contractions - my experience last time was like really bad period pains but they came one on top of the other, so i found it exhausting, I had a lot of pain in my legs and couldn't bear any weight, which scuppered my plan for an active birth. But my mate had told me to get plenty of food, drink and books because she got bored inbetween her contractions and was walking up and down the corridors. She even had the midwife go to the shop for a magazine. Unfortuately she broke my coccyxc so thats when the pain really kicked in I also heard my waters break with a pop when I went for a wee, I said to DP I think my waters have broken because I can't stop weeing. Then I had an immediate contraction. Water kept dribbling out for ages, and I had loads of sickness and diarrhoea when I got to hospital. It wasn't anything like I planned, I really went into myself and didn't speak or open my eyes much, but wouldn't let go of DP. Got to go now DD wants lunch. Have a good day everyone. x

tyaca · 13/01/2008 14:43

morningglory, what are you trying to do to us by spreading sick oral sex rumours? tsk... what if a man should read that? delete post!

all this talk of plugs had me dreaming of 'em last night. a v large one quite solid and bigger than a cork. hmmmm.... mission for this week: visit MN less often, if its not dubious oral sex lies, then worse -- its truths that my subconscience will blow (NO pun intended) out of all proportion....

gingermumi · 13/01/2008 14:51

hi. haven't been able to read all messages but did notice post about nappy wrapper - in the baby bounty bag there was an argos gift voucher for one of these- free!! Apparently worth £29.99. incldes a roll of the plastic and a voucher for £1 off refills. Might be worth holding out and checking your bounty bags ladies (or buying an asda one and taking it back if you do get free 1).

Hope this is of use.

congrats to Egg and Mini.

Will catch up properly later.
