Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sarah - sorry if I sound short with you but I've just had a row with DS1 and am not in a good mood....you are in control of your birth

  • You didn't have to see the doctor in the first place even if they did make you an appointment
  • Now that you have seen him you don't have to take any notice at all of his opinions or recommendations
  • You can have a homebirth if you want to, they do not have the power to 'prevent' it
  • You do not have to be induced regardless of whether they 'decide' to induce you - if they recommend induction you can decide whether to take their advice or not based on whatever information you have at the time
  • There is no basis for recommending an epidural for high BMI and it is more likely to cause the problems they are allegedly worried about

Just say no

Slacker · 31/01/2008 17:49

Oh and you can have all my labour vibes cos I don't want to see this baby for at least another week

sarahmikeandharry · 31/01/2008 18:19

Thanks everyone- sorry to have ranted and moaned just fed up with docs advising when not bloody necessarry!!!!!!lol

Slacker- its fine, hpe you and DS are ok!!! i totally understand where you are coming from- i just feel so bogged down with negative health professionals who just try to undermine people at the first opportunity!!! I wish i was brave enough to stick to my homebirth but i cannot be arsed to fight with everyone!!!!!

You are so strong Slacker!!!wish i had your determination!!!!

I have been having pains/ tightening about every 12-15 mins since about 2pm, they are noticable but not painfull- definatley more than the BH i have been having so i am hopeful that labour wont be too far away!!!- although i am aware it could just be nothing!!!! and all stop!!!!!

Trying not to think about it too much- keeping busy with DS!!!!!

Will keep you all posted if anything changes

sarahmikeandharry · 31/01/2008 18:20

Beansprout- love the title- very fitting!!!!!

Pk616 · 31/01/2008 18:27

Samsmam - sorry lass I seem to have over looked your post earlier. Sorry to hear that you're feeling scared and blue.
As they can be wrong by about 15% either way what they are telling you is that you are carrying a baby that is from 6lb5oz to 8lb7oz in weight at the moment so it would be a reasonable estimation that by the time you are due your little one will be between about 8 and 11lb!
The 11lb is a tad scary I'll admit but there is no reason to assume that a previous so called "SD" (they sometimes call it shoulder dystocia when it isn't strictly true) is going to mean SD this time round
NO TWO BIRTHS ARE THE SAME EVEN WITH THE SAME MOTHER AND A SIMILAR SINARIO.
Just because your baby is estimated at being large does not mean that you are going to have any more trouble delivering than if it was smaller.
In addition, Being induced at 38wks does NOT mean you are going to have an easier time of it AT ALL. Induction comes with it's own set of risks and is not to be considered lightly!
If they were to induce you at 38 weeks You could well be looking at a very long and drawn out first stage. The babys head may not be engaged and you are running the risk of a cord prolapse. You're contractions are likely to be pathetic so they will have to help them along causeing them to swing right to the other end of the scale and become even more painful than they need to be which then brings in the need for an epidural which can cause things to slow down again... can you see where this is going?
I do not want to scare you (or anyone else reading this) I just want you to realise that although it sounds like a really good idea, induction (especially pre due date) is something that should only be undertaken if necessary and your consultant obviously feels, at this stage, that your situation does not warrant that kind of action and he doesn't want to put you through the risks involved.
please try to relax and give yourself some pampering. You never know the baby may come predates all of it's own accord!
I hope your GTT goes well. Good luck.

Egg · 31/01/2008 19:41

Samsmam am that they would not induce you after shoulder distocia last time. It doesn't make sense. As others have said the weight predictions can be way out (my DTs were forecast to be bigger than they were actually born when I was scanned 10 days earlier, ie DS2 was said to be 5lb 8 on 31 Dec, and then when he came out on 10 Jan he was only 5lb 4, so they were pretty way out considering he ought to have gained a fair few oz in those last 10 days).

Sarah for you.

Beany - great new thread title .

Oh bugger, a baby is crying and I am trying to EAT and play on MN. DH due home any minute so he can take over though .

tyaca · 31/01/2008 19:49

hello all. sarah i am for you. both the consultant and the anethetist. good luck and stick to your guns.

good luck with your move tomo princessllama - who needs a kitchen floor, eh?

great title beansprout. to be read in the style of leslie grantham

sorry to all the non-sleepers out there.

widget, my DH is the same. he's working so hard at the moment. he's a teacher and has taken on loads of extra marking to bring in extra baby money stuff. so he's up before six and doing it every night cause he's terrified he wont have done it by time baby's here. also, he's trying to plan every single lesson til april, 'cause all his classes are AS and A2 and i know he feels guilty about the thought of deserting them weeks before their exams.

blondiep14 · 31/01/2008 19:54

Any room for a newbie?!

Due today and definitely fed up & fat!!

Have this week developed piles and an ear infection to couple with my lack of sleep and constantly feeling sick, it's not making for a very nice me i have to say .

No real sign bubs wants to make an appearance either, have had period cramps on and off for a weeks or so but nothing else, am begining to think it's never going to come out and i'm not even technically late yet!!

rant over, thanks for listening & hoping you're feeling chirpier than i!

tyaca · 31/01/2008 20:13

welcome blondie. when are you due?

this week i too had a mini piles scare that i am ignoring in the hope that the blood was just a once off. i also had an ear type infection over xmas. it was hellish painful - so 'orrible not to be able to take anything other than paracetomol.

there's a list with all our details on it, ass yourself to it!

sarahmikeandharry · 31/01/2008 20:31

Welcome Blondie- Feel free to rant and moan!!!! we all do it at some point!!!lol

samsmam · 31/01/2008 20:39

Pk thanks for that- especially the working out of the birth weights i tried with my calculator but got so confused.
I am just so scared by the whole experience last time. DD was born with her hand on her right hand touching her right shoulder blade so prob a little unlikely it will happen again.
You are right induction isn't nice- I was induced with DD1.

I hope that they are wrong with weights. On my notes it says 7.5lb +/- 25%! that is a big variation.
My uterine size 35cm at 36 weeks so its not huge its hard to believe there is this big baby in that space!

Enough of me going on I am just ranting because DP doesn't understand how I feel......

welcome to blondie, I am not a regular but I do like to keep up with the news.

blondie - please dont "ass" yourself to our list. "add" would be better...

samsmam · 31/01/2008 20:55

oops sorry for double post.

Jaysthird · 31/01/2008 21:03

sams - i have started a thread in pregnancy regarding Shoulder distoia, i am in the same boat, my second baby was 11.2lbs and suffered SD with him, although it was relativley mild, i am currently 36 weeks and have an estimated weight currently of 9.2lbs......i have decided to go for a natural birth but am also a little worried of it happening again. But like PK said no two births are the same!

Hi to everyone else, i too am not a regular here, but do read most posts every few days, Congrats to gill on the birth of Malcom, i had a look at the pics, hes a heartbreaker!!

BBL!!

ayrshirelolo · 31/01/2008 22:07

Hiya ladies! Welcome Blondie, i'm due today too, and still here, offcially fed up to the back teeth with this pregnancy lark!! Feel like a weeble with heartburn, not especially attractive right now!
Sarah i'm so on your behalf! Blardy doctor! i imagine he's just arse covering, but as you have given birth and he hasn't then i imagine he's just quoting stats, which as you know mean nothing!I'm with Slacker, just say NO!!![if you want to, that is!) I've got the tightening thing too, hope it's labour for both of us, friend! Keep drinking the raspberry leaf tea! (i've been having these for a couple of days, keep stopping and starting, getting mighty fed up!! tried pineapple, curry, sex, bouncing on birth ball..... think i might be the first woman in history to be pregnant for ever!)
Samsmam, don't have experience of SD, but know that scans can be so far out with measurements that it seems fairly pointless to me! Hope you end up with the birth you are happy with at any rate.
Good title fot the new thread, Beansprout, i'd thought of Snap, crackle and ready to pop, but yours is better!!
Anyway, hi to everyone, hope you all get some sleep tonight! lolo x

princessllama · 31/01/2008 22:28

love it tyaca-ass yourself. highly appropriate since so many of us are suffering with piles. this is prob tmi but i wouldn't worry about the blood, have had that on and off for quite some time now-do i get to be queen of the pile??
yes indeed, who needs a floor, but, hmmm, what about a sink, work surface, hobs, back doors... i am having evil thoughts about my builder suffering from pile extravaganza for the rest of his life. had melt down this afternoon, thankfully after put the phone down to him and ended up sobbing in the local coffee shop queue, much to everybodys embarrassment as i waited for my daily hit of caffeine. mil is thankfully now arrived on mission. even she looked traumatised as we left her at the house 10 minutes ago (no where else for her to stay night), unfort. coincides with builders still painting, dust everywhere and smoke from their cigarettes. she's up at the top of the house with a sleeping bag. feel a bit guilty.
thought i was going to cry again when saw moses basket covered in plaster dust, how can i put new lo in that?????? really want to go and blow some money on a new one but realise that is an extreme nesting reaction. (and will have to get other one sorted as belongs to a friend and is still on loan from last time-maybe should get a new one and she could have it after can imagine what dh would say about waste of funds...
i feel really really wobbly. v silly as realise not a big crisis on the scale of things. and have got 3 weeks til dday. i do feel this baby might be a bit earlier though.
i'm vvv sorry for long long post and rant.

princessllama · 31/01/2008 22:31

welcome blondie nice to have another pg friend.
sorry for yet more rambling- i did post about this but got no answers-did anyone have same thing about the feeling baby was pushing head down massivly on to their bottom (iyswim)

tyaca · 31/01/2008 23:45

lolo - at the rate this thread goes, i reckon we can be snap crackling and popping away by about the 10th of feb!

this estimated weights thing is keeping us all backfooted, isnt it? this 25% margin of error is just crazy big.

grrrr..... i feel funny. spacey and hot and v v uncomfortable.

bluedomino · 01/02/2008 00:14

samsmam, please don't worry and don't listen to estimated birth weights, I was terrified with DD as they told me she was def going to be over 10lbs, she arrived 2 days early and was 8lb2oz! Quite a big difference. Mind you they do say that its easier to deliver a big baby.

Went into town today, 1st time for ages, I'd forgotten how much people stare at you. I got really pissed off, I'm not that big but people looked at my bump with really horrified expressions. Grrrr

Sarah, I must admit I feel slightly jealous that you have doctors taking any notice of you. I'm stuggling to find anyone to take any notice of my medical problems (of which there are many), I've had an iron infusion which hasn't worked but my midwife, who I have always suspected of being a bit workshy, just told me to phone the maternity unit and follow it up myself. Did this & they've yet to get back to me. GP has also told me to phone hospital myself, again no response. So I'm feeling shit and can't get anyone to believe me. All the way through this pregnancy I've had to do my own research and fight to get any tests or treatment. Apologies for rant.

Pk616 · 01/02/2008 05:08

Good morning ladies!

Yep, I'm posting in the middle of the night again!! It keeps me sane!

Egg - if you're burping babies....Hiya

Amy - It seems that these consultants are just a tad lacking in sensitivity! You'd think that as they work with Pg ladies ALL the time, they'd understand that we're emotional at the best of times without having worst case scenarios thrust infront of us! It is good to be prepared and well informed but there are ways of doing it with tact and thoughtfulness and without scaring the crap out of you!

Joosey - We don't ignore each other on here! I think that sometimes people just don't know what to say or don't have an answer to give! Now, get power walking, nesting, shagging and eating raw pineapple till it comes out of your ears I'm ok thanks, just unable to get anymore sleep tonight. I think it's excitement tbh, my cotbed is being delivered later this morning and you know how much I've been looking forward to that.

Mymissus - Sorry lass it really doesn't give any indication of timescale. At least things are moving in the right direction!

Bean - There seems to be a general consensus that you have just provided the next thread title! Well done lass, I couldn't come up with anything!

Rozzy - Sorry you're exhauseted again. May you be sleeping better tonight and having sweet dreams as I type!

Widget - I keep forgetting that I CAN'T bend in the middle! I don't think I'll ever get used to being PG! I've ended up doing most of the middle bending type jobs on my knees. Did the flying sausers help? I found love hearts good for mild indigestion!

Ty - It sounds like your DHs mind has gone to the same place as My DPs... The land of the great provider! I believe it's the male way of nesting! He sounds like a good teacher too and a very thoughtful man. I hope he doesn't wear himself out with all the work he's doing!

Blonde - Happy D-Day for yesterday! Welcome aboard! I'm sorry that you're feeling so crap. I hope it all sorts its self out soon.

Sams - No probs with working out weights! I've recalculated for you to take into account the MASSIVE 25% margin of error each way. So you are now carrying a bairn of between 5lb 7oz and 9lb 3oz! That's just a bit too big of a range for it to make much sense in bothering to guess IMHO! I recon that at 40 weeks you could be looking at a baby that weighs anything from about 6lb 13oz and 12lb 4 oz - now that's a reasonable possibility for each and everyone of us!

lolo - Happy D-Day for yesterday! You've got me remembering my childhood! I used to love my weebles, I had a weebles train and the weebles park set with a roundabout and a slide!

Princess - Good luck moving in today. Don't worry too much about the moses basket. Take it outside and give it a good shake and then vac it like you've never vac'd before! It should come up fine! Sorry about the lack of replys but I've never had that feeling although it's one that my friend says she can't wait for me to experience she is a bit odd!

Blue - Get the number for the head of midwifrey and call her. Go for the big rant, explain everything, including your feelings and something should finally be done for you. Hth hun!

Pk616 · 01/02/2008 05:26

leggylil - Where are you? Have you popped lass?

Egg · 01/02/2008 07:29

Morning all! PK I just missed you as crawled back into bed at 4:50am! Last night was so much better, in fact only did two rounds of feeding, at 1ish and 4ish. However DD woke up crying at 7ish, plus DS1 started shouting "helloooooooo" from his room so I got up, made some coffee, put my makeshift bed away in DTs room and now everyone is quiet again .

I am guilty of ignoring MANY people joosey . I just skim the the thread and usually comment on a few post near the top, and anything that jumps out at me that I might have experience of...

Blue, I think you need to change your name... it is making you feel blue a lot . So sorry you are being ignored by the medical profession. My friend a couple of years ago was very very anaemic but the hospital lost her test results so never told her and she lost a lot of blood during birth (not a dangerous amount but a lot if you are v anaemic) so felt really rotten for weeks and then her results arrived in the post from 3 months earlier and she finally knew why she felt like shite. It is crap and unfair. Are you taking the regular stuff like spatone to keep you going? Can you try to speak to someone "higher up" and badmouth those who are not returning your calls?

Anyone wanting to get popping? I was getting DS1 in his pushchair up a flight of 7 steps at least once or twice a day (shortest route to nursery / into town etc is down these steps across the river, otherwise it's an extra 5 mins in the other direction). My mum hated me doing it but maybe it helped get things going, certainly kept my arms strong!

Princess - yes yes, I felt like I had a baby ready to come out of my bottom! Especially the last few days and esp at night. Maybe maybe you are ready to pop! Fingers crossed for you.

Right, there is definitely a baby crying so my attempts not to ignore anyone this time are scuppered . But I will no doubt be around again later gabbering on mindlessly.

Ohhh, forgot to say am taking DS1 for a treat today, a really exciting trip out! He is over the moon, guess where we are going??? TESCO! We've not been since before Christmas and he loves it . As the weather is shite there are not many options!

Arhian · 01/02/2008 07:45
