Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:

thanks-tommorrow i am packing my hospital bag had been waiting for nesting to kick in it goes to show-one should be prepared for anything!

tyaca · 30/01/2008 14:53

hi ruva, i am no expert as its my first time, but at the BF'ing class i went to, they said it was ok to buy bras at 38wks - so i guess you're prob fine. good luck!

ruva · 30/01/2008 14:59

Hi ty,
Thanks i am actually 36 weeks today and from reading other threads someone suggested i buy a cheapo one now and then get kitted on my way from the hospital.

sarahmikeandharry · 30/01/2008 15:04

Ruva- sorry to hear you have to go in till you give birth!!! i hope all is ok!!!

Will be thinking of you!!!1

Good luck and look forward to hearing from you in due course!!!!

tyaca · 30/01/2008 15:07

sry ruva, didnt read your message properly i then went on to read the end of your last sentence as getting a knitted one from the hospital....

gingermumi · 30/01/2008 15:08

Heya, just time to pop on before next round of feed, cuddle, sleep!

Thanks for info about jaundice, he's looking less lemon today (he was tango!).

Gill - sore nip - when it's better try really getting him latched on well so loads of nipple is in his mouth that way he wont make you so sore. I'm with others re post c-sect - take it very easy, i'm only just starting to feel better now and Toby is nearly 4 weeks old. My tummy (strangely the skin above the scar, not just the scar itself) still feels sore and i certainly wouldn't risk lifting or driving or hoovering.

Ruva - i bought one breastfeeding bra to take into hosp with me (one cup size bigger is recommended and has worked out fine). I also bought a strappy BF top from H&M (£10) which is really useful- you can wear it as a top or jamas without a bra so is good as a change and nice and comfy, they come in small, med and large. I will definately buy more bras when I can - but one was fine plus the top. I got my bra from ebay (brand new - i think it was end of line or something like that - it was an ebay shop rather than an individual - an Emma Jane one -about £7). It's worth checking ebay for this type of thing and it's not all pre-worn! I have seen the same bra i have in jojo mamabebe in white, for about £20. Hope this helps!

Jo9977 · 30/01/2008 15:58

Sorry to hear your news ruva - doesn't sound fun...hope you cope ok...thinking of you. xx

mymissus · 30/01/2008 16:00

Good luck Ruva - we'll be thinking of you and crossing fingers etc that everything goes well.

The Bravado feeding bras are really comfy and seem to have a good measuring system.

alkar · 30/01/2008 16:53

Gill - Malcolm is gorgeous, love the hair! Hope you are starting to feel a bit better now.

Ruva sorry you have to go into hospital so soon, all for the best though I guess.

Am sure this one still hasn't engaged yet, due date 4 days away! He seemed to have dropped for a couple of days which meant I could actually move properly then woke up yesterday and felt him back up in my ribs. Midwife apt on Friday so I guess I'll know more then.

SallyInYorkshire · 30/01/2008 17:19

Hi everyone!
re Breastfeeding bras - Am going to go and get measured for one of these at 38wks as suggested by tyaca (thanks tyaca!)

Can anyone give any tips on how to choose one/ which ones are good? I want to avoid underwire and I don't want it to look too oldladyish iyswim

Thanks!!!! xxx

manamana · 30/01/2008 17:20

Ruva - sorry to hear everything is rollercoastering for you! Sounds like a least you may have a day or two to get your head around the change of plans at least a little bit but sending you a big virtual hug as you must be gutted at having to go in early.
CHew, I'm having an elective cs on monday and have been packing lots of snacks and cartons of juice just to make me feel a bit better. Have also packed small notepad and pen for lists of things for visitors to bring! Wipes for me to use instead of having to get out of bed and wash! Am guessing that as I won't have gone through labour I won't be desperate for a shower and hairwash like after ds so can survive the first 48 or so hours without worrying too much.
Ruva, do you like trashy mags? You could get a stash of those to keep you entertained for a while - have you got friends near who can visit?

mymissus · 30/01/2008 18:45

Bravado bras arehere and these people do a fitting service in certain areas.

Our NCT branch also sell them quite cheaply. Here are three reviews. I have been given some and they are really comfy!

mymissus · 30/01/2008 18:46

Oops forgot to put reviews page on

here

princessllama · 30/01/2008 18:52

bad luck ruva must be a big shock. you have reminded me about bf bras now too. anyone know if you expand to the same size second time round? can i just use the ones from last time?
gill, can't remember if said this already but congratulations, he's lovely. i went through the screaming pain of weird contractions last time until beautiful epidural when thank god everything started to go more normally. also lo chewed through one of my nipples too on day 1 and then had a week of doing the panting through the feeds as if was in labour with bad contractions. also remember the sobbing in middle of night feeling like i was no. 1 crap mummy for not being able to organise nappies/bottles/sleep...
tyaca i haven't packed my bag yet either. feels like the baby is so close too (although it can't be with 4 weeks to go) has anyone else had that 2nd time round with hardcore bh contractions that make you feel you want to push? will ask mw next week.
am knackered from overdoing it with lo at park all afternoon so v cheered by egg's view that less tired after. still going to my apt for eyelash tint round the corner in half an hour . must book haircut too as look like highland cow suddenly, can hardly see out.
moving house on friday . sounds like no kitchen floor til sunday though . still, who needs a kitchen . am sailing through with belief that superwoman mil will arrive and sort everything out for me much like mary poppins.
anyone having fights over godparents? dh is determined to have his boss who i think thinks he's god and makes me feel totally insignificant. am trying every persuasive trick in the book but worryingly not making much headway, esp as my 2 best mates are being godmothers.-realise prob most other people won't be doing godparent route so this is prob. big waffle for everyone else.

LOVEMYMUM · 30/01/2008 19:52

Hi Manamama. I think you have done the right thing with your mother.

Ruva - hope all goes well. Hospital really is the best place to be.

To those having a c-section (have forgotten who you are - sorry): My baby is breech at 36 weeks and so c-section may be a possibility. I have packed 2 nightdresses and 2 dressing-gowns. Will take in 3 baby-grows and 3 sleepsuits with me for LO.

Am more worried about the state of the house after LO is born if i have c-section. Part of me wants to say f*^k the housework but on the other hand, i don't want a mess. I really don't think it has occured to DH that i really won't be able to do much at all if i have c-section. Am trying to stay calm. Luckily, i have a cleaner once a week but its things like clothes washing i'm thinking of. How have other mums coped?

Jaysthird · 30/01/2008 20:19

Hi all

just sticking my 'non regular' nose in to say, had a scan today which shows baby has moved and now no longer breech, in fact head is RIGHT down.. growth measurements show baby is currently off the scales with a weight of 9.2lbs... still with 4-5 weeks to go.... trouble is now, as my last baby was big and got stuck with shoulder dystopia, the question is whether to go for natural or section.....i am swaying toward natural, hmmm maybe a new thread is needed for advice..

LOVEMYMUM · 30/01/2008 20:47

Hi Jay.

Ouch!

Which method of labour (c-section or vaginal) have you been recommended?

LOVEMYMUM · 30/01/2008 21:04

Re: Meet-up for London mums. Not sure what to do about this cos d-day is approaching for all of us. Have posted on "Big Smoke" thread.

Bessie - Not long till mat leave starts. Hang in there.

ayrshirelolo · 30/01/2008 21:24

Hi all, just popping in to say hello, Sorry to hear your news Ruva, but better safe than sorry i suppose!
Well i'm due tomorrow ... and so officially fed up now!!! took dd to buy new shoes today and then to see my mum. The i felt guilty (as well as everything else!) as i appreciated how much she's put on hold for me just now (she's No1 option for looking after dd) as she's usually very busy and is now making "contingency" plans for everyting. I did warn her that this could go on for another couple of weeks, but here's hoping it doesn't!!! Had a few minor grumbly pains but no show, or anything regular. Baby not engaged either which i know is fine for a second pregnancy, but why isit that i seem to have the bladder capacity of a small insect? Was up every hour last night to have a wee (sorry if tmi!) and am knackered!! Roll on life with a newborn, if i remember rightly you're getting quality kip in between feeds etc, as opposed to the twilight zone type napping you get in late pregnancy.... Oh well, whinge over for today!! hope everyone well and as happy as possible.... night all! lolo x

widgetsmummy · 30/01/2008 21:54

Before I fall alseep - congrats Gill! Read your story with DH who made lots of noises about you being brave and it not being quite so rough for everyone. So glad you and gorgeous Malcolm are ok - do take care of yourself too!

Got measured for nursing bras this week, pre preg was 36C nursing ones are 38DD - boobs don't feel like they have grown that much. I got a two pack from M&S, functional over pretty but I figure if the BF thing takes off I'll be getting more.

Ruva - will be thinking of you. Although it wont be fun its the best place to be if they are worried. You'll be out with your LO in no time.

Egg - you do sound amazing!

12 days til DD (fingers drumming on keyboard) I need to learn some paitience, just want to get on with it! Thankfully my lovely mummy coming on Fri to distract me for a few days

Night all x

PS - read on pregnancy thread that rocking forwards and backwards on the toilet means you empty your bladder better so might need to get up less... worth a shot!

princessllama · 30/01/2008 22:22

right will be rocking backwards and forwards like a weeble
jaysthird-tough decision. my obstetrician who is v laid back said the diff that weight of the baby makes becomes important between 9 and 10lbs. i'll be interested to hear what he says when i ask him about your situation-unfort. not for another 10 days so not much use to you. they do seem to get the weight wrong often though don't they. samsmam is in the same position as you, maybe she'd be a good person to talk to if she's still around, i think she's going for an induction at 38 weeks because her first had shoulder distocia and was large-samsmam am i right? excuse me if i got it wrong brain fade is almost visible now.
lolo can't wait for my mum to step into the breach-really starting to feel like i need her now, but don't want to use all my chips now as still have 4 weeks to go and i don't know if she'll keep up the pace

Slacker · 30/01/2008 23:54

Jaysthird - I think you said it all on your other thread when you said the ob wants you flat on your back in stirrups in case of SD - that tells you everything you need to know about doctor logic . Stay off your back, pref all fours, McRoberts or Gaskin manouevre if SD occurs...you've had big babies before, your body can clearly do it. Read up on what the eminently sensible Angela at the Homebirth site has to say about SD.

sarahmikeandharry · 31/01/2008 09:36
