Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ruva · 18/01/2008 11:58

Morning ladies,
leesmum goodluck-
iam off on a weekend break to the new forest But i need advise i am 34t1weeks do i really need to pack my hospital bag i am travelling from london with dog and dh so the car does not have much space plse tell me i should not worry.
To all the sleepy ladies go back to bed!
Oh i leave at 2:30 so dh must not catch not packed on the computer.

Pk616 · 18/01/2008 12:03

ruva - I wouldn't bother with hospital bag. ypu're packing clothes n stuff anyway right? stick a baby grow and your arnica in the bag and leave it at that!

ruva · 18/01/2008 12:09

Hey pk,
I read from your thread about arnica have no idea what it is but will pass through the pharmacy to pick gaviscon and arnica- can you imagine they had run out of gaviscon I don't believe it, Hope you keeping well woman you freaked me out with your energy moving tables what are you like?

Pk616 · 18/01/2008 13:01

ruva,
arnica is basically a plant extract used as an anti inflammatory especially in cases of bruising. Theoretically if you start taking it when you go into labour your recovery should be more speedy.
I think the chemist should be disgusted with themselves for running out of as basic a medicine as gaviscon! It's lifes blood to some of us!!
I'm ok, thanks, as I mentioned earlier I feel a bit pants but now that I've wallowed in my own self pity for the morning I'm having another burst of energy so making the most of it and vacing the rugs in the bedroom. I'm doing it on all fours so I can kill two birds with one stone! lol!
Sorry for freaking you out, but stuff just ahs to be done and I didn't have the good sense to do it earlier on in the pregnancy so I'm having to do it all now!
Right that's my break over, back to the hoover!

manamana · 18/01/2008 13:53

how exciting leesmum, sending smooth labour thoughts over to you
Sleeping not as bad for me as some of you but have got into pattern of staying up quite late to see dh and then going back to bed after ds and dh have left - slept from 8.30-12.30 today, bliss! Am feeling a lot more perky today after my big lie-in.
Have been storing up essentials for my hosp bag... added some crunchy nut cereal bars and turkish delight to my online food order this week and got dh to pick up some tangtastic haribo from the shop yesterday, gotta focus on the important stuff .

tyaca · 18/01/2008 13:56

Leesmum Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!! am so hope all goes well and really looking forward to your next post

hello mutha2beagain

pk - loved your description of having your pelvis ripped open by two sets of shire horses.... i get a feeling there's worse to come... sorry to hear you're feeling blue. the idea of you vac'ing on all fours has made me smile...

i am having a panic about the activity of the baby. when i measured small on weds, the MW said that i was to let them know if i had less than 10 strong movements a day. at the time my movements had been so strong i thought that, despite a lack of inhereted talent, my LO was already in training to be a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet. Then yesterday she was v v quiet, maybe only half a dozen movements and none really big and today nothing bascically.

i have worked myself into such a state, but i swear its all the product of the power of suggestion. someone just has to name a few illness symptopms and i have 'em all the next day. grrrrr.... i am giving the baby another hour to make herself know then a quick call to the MW.

manamana · 18/01/2008 14:36

Ty, hope lo has started wriggling - mine usually does if I lie on my back or eat something, especially if its cold/hot/sweet. Might be an idea to call anyway just to put your mind at rest - these last days weeks are horrible for things to worry about aren't they? I dropped my wee sample off at drs but really wanted to take it straight up to hosp myself to get it checked asap in case i have infection etc

leesmum · 18/01/2008 15:39

Well i'm still here,if anything i think it's slowing down??? i'm going to ring del suite and see what they say.
be back soon x

mutha2beagain · 18/01/2008 15:46

Hi Tyaca,

My obs took a fundal measurement at about 32 weeks and stated that I seemed too small for dates, so for the next week I started to worry until a scan the following week revealed that all seemed to be on course. If they are going say things to you that give you cause for concern, ask them to offer you another growth scan - that's the least they can do. If you're worried about baby's movements, just eat a whole load - mine always seems to be on the move when the food's going down. Don't let those midwives panic you unnecessarily. Needless to say, at 37 weeks they are now telling me that the baby's estimated birth weight is 8lbs (a whopper as far as I'm concerned) ... DS weighed in at a far daintier 6lb 12 ozs. So put your foot down and get that reassurance and try not to worry.

PK - I bought arnica cream like an idiot - do you think I can use it topically on me (no prizes for guessing where) and on the baby's head if we have a bit of a rough ride together (which I am bracing myself for in light of my past labour!!!) BTW, my cat did end up having his eye out but he's back on speaking terms with his brother (for the first week after the op the brother kept on hissing and spitting at him and I had to use cat pheromones to get them socialising again). Anyway he seems to be coping fine and he's suddenly a whole new character.

Off to see a movie tonight- and a bit of a gory one going by the reviews - DH is acting like he's never going to be going out again and keeps on arranging to see people before D-day. I will have to ask him to slow down soon - it's really a bit knackering.

leesmum · 18/01/2008 16:45

I rang del suite and they said its normal for labour to stop completely.

After the day i've had and no baby yet to show for it

good heavens i might even have to resort to a quickie to see if i can get things started again....

rozzyraspberry · 18/01/2008 18:03

Hi everyone - have tried to catch up but think I've missed a few posts as I haven't been on for a few days.

Finished work yesterday - feel like a big weight has been lifted as work has been quite stressful for the last few days. It'll probably take a few days to wind down (still awake during the night thinking about work things last night but enjoyed me first day off. Went to the shops this morning whilst the boys were at nursery to get the last few things I need, spent the afternoon playing with lego and trains and am now off to have a bath with the lovely mother to be toiletries I got from my work friends (along with far too much baby blankets, toys, clothes, flowers, and gift vouchers).

Leesmum I think it is quite common to have some false starts with subsequent pregnancies. If its any comfort this happened to me with ds2. Had gentle contractions on and off all day on the Wednesday. Phoned hospital the next day as I'd had a bit of cramping during the night and a bit of bleeding in the morning. They were going to let me go home but I was 5cm dilated. Had ds2 that afternoon. Hopefully, this has been the start of labour for you - fingers crossed!

Glad everyone had a good time at the London meet up.

Hope everyone is putting their feet up - except for you new mummies - I suppose that's out of the question!!!

Jo9977 · 18/01/2008 18:26

That's pants leesmum - hope it starts again!

Tyaca - hope LO started dancing!!

Have been told by MIL who's coming tomorrow to wash everything that doesn't move (the cat is looking a bit wary!) so she can iron it over the weekend....ahhh

sarahmikeandharry · 18/01/2008 18:35

Hi all,

Sorry its been a while!!!

Well no baby appeared as yet!!!!

Called Delivery suit on wed eve as still no contrations and no more water loss, they asked me to go in to be accessed and my BP was very high,

They did an internal i was not dilating, no eveidence of water loss, so i must have wet myself!! i did not wet myself and argued this with them, till i was blue in the face!!!!

anyway BP stayed high and had trace of protein so i was asked to stay overnight for regular BP monitoring, so under duress i stayed- Had a side room with ensuite which was nice though!!!!

Anyway yesterday Am bp still up a little still no fluid loss felt ok, was sent for a scan and they have confirmed i have leaked about half my water(the amount on scan was half what it was 2 weeks ago) but i am still in the safe limit and they think the hole has plugged itself, (called a hind water leak) so no antibiotics for now and see how it goes, they asked me to stay again and i finally got out at 11-30 today, BP back to normal, however have plus protien, i have to collect all my urine over 24 hours and return the bottle to ward tommorow at some point for anaylsis to check the total amount of protien over 24 hours,

Community MW will come to the house to check BP daily and i am back to see consultant next wed,

Really disappointed, but i am sure, Baby Rosie will come when ready!!!!

Oh and my homebirth is now out of the window, but i am ok i made the decision and am fairly happy,

i have back ache and lots of BH so its just a waiting game!!!!!

sorry its so long and nothing exciting,

Hope everyone is well,

Wonder if you will beat me to it leesmum!!!!lol

Gill79 · 18/01/2008 18:47

How's it going Tyaca? Hope it's started to move again - since you've been at home for a while you're probably used to sitting round and feeling it move quite a lot and then coming into town and chatting and stuff you just won't notice it. Also I'm sure LO stops everything to listen when I speak! Some days I can go right through to the evening without feeling anything but DP reckons he can feel gentle squirming if he presses hard even though I can't. Really hope you're not worrying still but if you are just call the hospital (that will be bound to start it moving again!)

How exciting / frustrating Leesmum - best wishes for the weekend and let's hope it's a productive one!

Started listening to my "beautiful birth" self-hypnosis CD today - didn't manage to hypnotise myself but didn't laugh too much at her either...... "your contractions are sooooo comfortable and pleasant..... you can't wait for the next contraction" Also she says "beeeeaaaaarrbi" instead of baby. Anyway I had to make a copy since the original CD wouldn't play in our knackered old CD player so if anyone wants the original I'll send it on for free if you fancy a laugh or can take it seriously enough. Let me know. I will persevere though!

Was fab to meet the london girls yesterday - Ty and Princess - didn't have time to get your numbers before I had to dash but if you (or more likely I ) can't make the next one let's make sure we keep contact.

OP posts:
Pk616 · 18/01/2008 18:50

mana - dead right those are the essentials! you can give birth in your nothings and the hospital can always pop an outfit on the bairn but we NEED our energy so we NEED our snacks and the tastier the better!

mutha - sorry to hear about your friend. It's good that you're there for her. TY for the bargain info. I'll check 'em out next week when DP gets paid (I hope my cotbed is still in the sale there! I've made space for it now!) Don't think you can use the arnica cream I'm afraid! you'll have to save it for the next time one of your LOs get a bruise! Sorry your cat had to have his eye out but I'm glad to hear that everything has settled down and he's coping well. My cat's fur is growing back from where it was shaved off but falling out on his head and paws where they couldn't shave him. He's leaving little chunks of himself all over the house, yuck! Both are now socialising again too. I couldn't use the pheromones because it took ages for Minya to stop smelling like Diesel! but once he smelled less and the house smelled more the younger one started to trust him again! Now they are both themselves except Minya seems to have regressed a little and is behaving much more like a kitten than we have ever seen him(he was at least 6 months old when we picked him up off the street) and he's loving his cuddles. Trust him to get all clingy and want to sleep on the bed NOW when he's gonna be kicked out of the bedroom all together anytime soon!

Tyaca - glad I made you smile! I'm not actually feeling blue, my mood is good, which is surprising the hell out of me! I'm sure I should be panicking or worried or at least hormonally emotional! But no, I'm just quite sickeningly filled with peace and serenity! It's my body that's not its self (I know it hasn't been its self in months! I mean it's even less its self than what I've recently come to feel is normal!) I think the power of suggestion has a lot to do with your baby's movements and your worry about them. Your baby does get to know your mood through the hormones they make you give off! I find that anytime someone starts telling me about noticing a change in my babys movements etc they suddenly seem to disappear, and I get all worried. I find that if I sip on COLD water and lie down comfortably and peacefully she starts wriggling around. Besides what are they doing asking you to count movements? Thats out dated practice. They're now supposed to advise you that if you notice a distinct change in your babys normal pattern of movements to call the midwife. From what you've said you seem to have noticed a change so I'd call the midwife to put your mind at rest if nothing else.

Lees - Sorry you're frustrated with the labour slowing down. From what I can tell you've got 2 choices...

  1. Grab some good energy food such as pasta and replenish your stocks and then catch some sleep while you can
or
  1. Get yourself moving (the food may still be a good idea though!) go for a walk, scrub the kitchen floor, do your house work, etc.
Not that I actually know what I'm talking about!
Gill79 · 18/01/2008 18:50

Sarah - my comments for leesmum apply too - exciting and frustrating! Given you and Ginger hopefully we will now all stand our ground when told we've wet ourselves! Best wishes....

OP posts:
Gill79 · 18/01/2008 18:53

oh and Tyaca some other suggestions from the norm- deep breathing (with long slow exhalation) and thinking about the baby (wierd but definitely works) tend to make mine move......

SallyInYorkshire · 18/01/2008 18:54

Hi everyone!
gosh I go away for a day and there is SO MUCH exciting news!!!

no time to write to everyone, but

leesmum - hope labour starts up again for you!definitely worth trying anything you can to restart it! at parentcraft we were told by the physio to bounce up and down on an exercise ball if we were in your situation! suppose having sex might be quite similar but in reverse iyswim!!

sarah - can't believe how often I hear about this happening - pg woman says her waters have leaked, hosp staff say no, she must have peed herself (like you wouldn't notice!), only for it to turn out to be the waters leaking all along. whatever happened to believing the patient eh. not surprised your BP was high after all that stress!!! anyway hope things sort themselves out and that next time they believe you from the start!!!

rozzy I am DEFINITELY putting my feet up - ankles are like balloons!

morningglory · 18/01/2008 18:56

sarahmikeandharry, did they say what the next step was if there was a significant amount of protein in your urine? Will they automatically admit you to the hospital to keep an eye on you?

Sorry about the false start, leesmum. Hopefully you won't have to wait long!

I only had a smear of blood yesterday, and none since, so I'm just going to wait until Wednesday. At this point, I'm afraid of doing a poo because I'm afraid I'd start to push the baby out. Silly, but that is kind of what happened the first time around when DS1 flew out of me. Can't wait until it's all over!

Pk616 · 18/01/2008 18:59

rozzy - congrats on finishing work! enjoy your bath!

Sarah - sorry you've had a crap time of it. Glad you've been able to make a birthing decision that you're happy with though. Good luck with the protein. Put your feet up lass and pamper yourself in the meantime.

Gill - That CD sounds like a right giggle! At least it gave you some entertainment!

Amy78 · 18/01/2008 19:03

Hi everyone.

Lots of exciting news - hope everyone is surviving!!

Was at the midwife today for 36 week check up and told that baby is 3/5 th's engaged! Help!! Am beginning to panic now as DH is away offshore to the Congo on Sunday for 2 and a bit weeks. Am dreading anything happening when he is not here although my mum and dad have offered to step in.

Never mind - away to enjoy the weekend starting off with a long soak in the bath and bed!!

sarahmikeandharry · 18/01/2008 19:04

Morning glory-

Nothing really been mentioned, i think once the urine has been tested they will make a decision, consultant has said that highly unlikley they will let me go past my due date as the risk is greater but other than that i have no idea,

i am more concerened about the risk of infection as my waters have definatly ruptured but they all seem ok with this as the level is in normal range!!!

Will wait and see

cosima · 18/01/2008 19:19

thinking of you tyaca. have you tried a glass of orange juice?

Jaysthird · 18/01/2008 20:22

Hi

dont know if anyone remembers me, i am due Feb 26th with my third baby. I did post a while back and i have 'lurked' for a bit, but find keeping up with all you guys a bit tough going!! Anyway, i thought it best to 'get back' into it a bit, theres nothing like having a moan and groan with ladies going through the same thing!

I did post in Pregnancy as i have been told the baby is breech, although they are only about 70% sure. I am going to have a growth scan on the 30th ( my second baby was 11 2lbs) so they will be able to tell me then if its breech for definite. Anyone else in this boat?

Will have a read through some more of the thread, looking forward to sharing some stories!

beansprout · 18/01/2008 20:33

Ty - a glass of ice cold water and laying down on your side is a good one for getting a baby to move. As is eating some chocolate (I know, what a shame!!)

Leesmum - sorry to hear that everything stopped, you must be on tenterhooks waiting for everything to start again?! Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Sarah - everything crossed for you too.

Rozzy - am really glad you have finally finished work, hope you can have a good rest before it all happens!

Mutha - so sorry to hear about your friend. If it something you don't want to upset us with, it must be baby related so it can't be easy for you either. I hope you are ok in the middle of it all. My SIL's baby died of SIDS when I was pregnant with ds, so I know that we aren't immune from painful events when we are pregnant. Big hug to you.

Mymissus - am with you on the mad hours/ non sleeping front. You have my full sympathy on that one.

Generally, I want to just grind to halt but dh has a huge pile of work to get through before he goes on paternity leave and that leaves me doing all the home related stuff. Not that I am doing that much though, only have to hoover or get a bit of shopping and I'm in discomfort/pain for hours. Boo.
